I'm on day three of fish and veg. Day 2 included a major alcohol drinking session, but no plans to drink much over the next 8 weeks before my holiday.

Not setting any targets at the moment as I'm finding it too depressing when not achieving. I'm hoping to notice the daily fish/chicken and veg as my main food to help me feel slimmer within a week or two. I'm feeling less bloated already and more fuller, so quite pleased and appearing to binge less.

I'm not drinking as much water though, so need to try harder to remember for this.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/05/2025 07:18

I’m feeling a bit better this morning but I still feel so tired and lethargic. I had a 2 hour nap yesterday and still managed to sleep all night! And woke up feeling tired. It’s very odd, I think I’m just generally quite run down and need to use this week to recuperate and re-energise. I am going away tomorrow and I am really looking forward to not having to walk the dog at 7 every day and just having some chill time, hot tub, sea air and hopefully will get a bit of zing back in my step!

yesterday my food was ok, I’ve decided I’m not going to count calories this week but I’m also not going to go wild, just eat my meals and try not to snack on junk. I’ll probably drink a few nights while we’re away. We’re hiking Snowdon one day and I’m taking my running kit as I love a hilly seaside adventure run. I am sure I will gain a few lbs but that’s ok.

when I get back I’ve decided I just need to pick a lane and drive. Too much dithering around for me recently, trying lots of tactics and to be honest it’s not really working. My overall loss in May was (I think) 2lbs to last official weigh in, but if I weigh on 1st June it will prob be an overall gain. So my strategy for when I get back is going to be:

Weekly calorie counting and calorie cycling- I’ve been reading a lot about this. Instead of having the same every day, have lower days and higher days, making the total weekly calories average out at eg. 1300 a day (or whatever amount). I suppose that’s like 5:2 or similar, except I’ll probably do 4:3 - I have accepted that Tuesdays and weekends are not really going to be low calorie days

low carb and try to eat whole foods as much as possible- this is the single thing that has the biggest impact on my energy levels and my overall feeling healthy. I am clearly really affected by grains and additives and they make me retain water and affect my joints.

i have a local half marathon on 15th June and I am going to devise a short full body dumbbell routine that takes around 15mins which I’m going to do daily. I know this helps and I’m just being really lazy not bothering. And some stretching/yoga.

supplements, water and sleep.

I will have ten weeks to my next holiday and I know I can make a real difference to how I feel and look in that time.

Hello everyone

I've not been on the thread for... months and months? And I got so excited when I searched to see if it was still going! Hello @poorpaws @thenewaveragebear1983 @TalkToTheHand123, you might not remember me but I loved following your journeys before and would like to join in again.

a lot has happened in the last few months, changed jobs, FINALLY moved house, got very ill and recovered, kids are growing faster than I can keep track... but what hasn't changed is me tackling my eating!

I've moved to a much more rural area, started trail running in January and love it - I'm doing 3x a week comfortably now and got a few trail races booked in, building up to long distances. However, the scale is only going one way and I just can't seem to stick to eating less. Same old story, good intentions, a couple of "good" days, feel brighter, then back on the ice cream/alcohol/pizza and it starts all over again.

so here I am!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/05/2025 19:24

Hi @triplecheeeseof course I remember you! Welcome back! Sounds like you’ve had a busy few months.

OP posts:
TalkToTheHand123 · 27/05/2025 19:55

Welcome back @triplecheeese . I get a sweat just reading about people running. Just walking down the street tires me out. I'm trying not to feel sorry for myself and just going to keep trying to do better.

I quit the gym today as it's too far away (using too much petrol), too busy or too quiet. I have a treadmill and weights at home, so just going to utilise these.

Feel like a beached whale tonight. Haven't even ate that much. Tummy is much more settled though. Dehydrated as usual, foegetting to drink plenty water.

triplecheeese · 28/05/2025 07:15

Thanks pals! 💐

Sounds like the right thing @TalkToTheHand123. I don't have a gym membership for the same reason, it's just too much time commitment and if I have to drive there I won't go. Hope you get some water in you today.

I've had trouble sleeping for a while (plus the 3yo gets me up every night) and last night I slept very deeply so I'm feeling... unusual this morning.

food planned for today... granola with yoghurt for breakfast and steak & salad for dinner. Haven't decided on lunch but there's pitta and houmous in the fridge. Wish me luck avoiding the kids snack cupboard

wishing you all a healthy day.

triplecheeese · 28/05/2025 07:16

PS @TalkToTheHand123 i really like the apple fitness treadmill workouts, if you have an iPhone. You can walk or run them and most are 20 mins

TalkToTheHand123 · 28/05/2025 10:05

Awe thanks @triplecheeese I may try this, although usually just watch tv as I am on it.

I'm in a quite relaxed state for my weighloss this morning, which seems to be the most effective way to lose weight. It helps me make wiser choices.

Going to start cooking some fish and veg soon and start drinking plenty water. Hopefully burn some calories doing housework!

poorpaws · 28/05/2025 18:37

I’ve now written five long posts and I still can’t get them to send so all posts from me will be short.

hi @triplecheeese so happy to have you back.

poorpaws · 28/05/2025 18:38

It seems I can post only on my phone and only if I don’t press edit or it disappears.

not doing so well, struggling.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/05/2025 18:51

@poorpawsif you go to the site stuff section and create a post they might be able to help you, it sounds like a problem with the site rather than your device?

we arrived in wales, we’ve done a very expensive food shop and currently waiting for pizza and drinking Prosecco. Holiday fun. 🤩

poorpaws · 28/05/2025 19:12

thank you, I’ve just tried that but it wouldn’t let me send, the send icon wouldn’t go pink, just grey.

strangely it let me type the message on my iPad in that section but it won’t here. I’m pulling my hair out.

have a great holiday.

poorpaws · 28/05/2025 19:35

I’ve had an 11 year old help me, I think it’s fixed

triplecheeese · 28/05/2025 20:14

Sounds fabulous @thenewaveragebear1983 !

sorry you are having problems @poorpaws i would love to read the missing posts 🙄

I had my first session with a personal trainer this evening and I already think I won't be able to move tomorrow!

TalkToTheHand123 · 29/05/2025 07:52

Hi all. I ate lots of veg yesterday and got the treadmill out last night for first time in months for a 20min slow walk, so quite please.
Some tummy tensing muscle exercises done this morning which have been quite helpful as I feel a bit bloated.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 29/05/2025 08:37

@TalkToTheHand123well done on the treadmill. I have been told many times over the years by many PTs that the most effective home workout is walking on an incline treadmill - burns way more calories than on the flat and builds muscle, but far more likely to stick to a regular routine than running. Well done 👏

I did 28k steps yesterday, despite being in the car for several hours, I was exhausted at bedtime! Today we are going to the castle in the morning and then dh and boys doing a forest coaster /zip line thing which I have zero interest in, way too scary for me. It’s unfortunately very wet and windy today. Tomorrow should be a bit better 🤞 my food yesterday was dire plus I drank nearly a whole bottle of Prosecco. To be fair though I didn’t eat loads of extras, just had pizza and doughballs for dinner, sandwich lunch etc. no sweets or ice creams or things like that. Today I’m having fruit and yogurt for breakfast, picnic lunch and dinner will be chicken curry and rice (chicken and meal kit type thing)

OP posts:
TalkToTheHand123 · 29/05/2025 23:56

I've tried the incline at the gym. It's a bit of a killer. I'm still very unfit. I've done my second night of 20 mins slow walk, motivated by knowing I have a night off tomorrow as doing a sleep shift!

I've ate quite a bit today, but at least I used up most of the fruit so it didn't go to waste and had more healthy food than usual. A decent amout of water (and exercise going up and down the stairs to the toilet!).

poorpaws · 30/05/2025 14:41

im just posting a dog photo to see if we’ve sorted the gremlins so please ignore. If it works I’ll be back posting very soon.

DIET FAILED AGAIN - maybe this time we're 7th time lucky, all are welcome
TalkToTheHand123 · 30/05/2025 17:29

Woof woof.

Struggling a bit now as weekend usually means stronger takeaway cravings. Soup and crackers to get me through!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/05/2025 18:08

It worked @poorpaws, love her smiley face

OP posts:
TalkToTheHand123 · 30/05/2025 18:31

Must have been sausages on the bbq?

poorpaws · 30/05/2025 18:39

Woohoo! I think I’m back, yayyy! It’s been so frustrating for so long but I refused to give up. I’ve had various techy types trying to help but no one could figure out the problem. If it goes wrong again I have no idea what to do but I’m crossing fingers everything will be ok now.

So of course I can’t remember any of the contents of the long posts I lost except to say @triplecheeese I’m so happy you’re back my diet twin. For anyone fairly new @triplecheeese and I go way back and she did brilliantly well losing a ton of weight whilst I struggled on. She was amazing in her determination and now cheeese I’m wondering what happened, did life just get in the way as it so often does?

May has been an absolute washout for me, twice I’ve lost a good weekly amount and twice I’ve gained it all back the following week. June is a notoriously difficult month for me, my favourite month of the year, when there are quite a few celebrations, lots of family takeaways, cafe and ice cream parlour trips.

im already not fitting into last years summer clothes which makes me thoroughly miserable but my chocolate cravings are increasing and I seem to eat more of the damned stuff than food. Twice this month I’ve thrown away salads because I just couldn’t face them. I must turn this around soon.

@thenewaveragebear1983 I’m sorry but I’ve lost track of where you are timewise on your holiday. I think you are still away and if you are I hope you’re having a fantastic time.

@TalkToTheHand123 keep on, you’ve got this!

im going to end now as I’m very nervous about posting this in case it disappears but have a great weekend everyone.

poorpaws · 30/05/2025 18:42

I’m so, so happy it worked.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/05/2025 20:28

Yay 🙌 @poorpaws!

I’m still on holiday, we climbed Snowdon today - a solid 15km total trip with the top 2.5k in almost zero visibility with heavy mist, we could see about 5m max - so no glorious views at the top. But still an achievement and I’m so proud of my boys, my littlest is only 9 and he did not moan once, despite cold wind and tired legs. Super proud of them both. Of course we are relaxing tonight with wine and a nice curry, an ice cream earlier etc. Diet shall resume on Monday (maybe Sunday)

OP posts:
poorpaws · 30/05/2025 20:31

That’s amazing @thenewaveragebear1983 your son is a proper little trooper, strong and determined just like his mum. Enjoy your wine and curry tonight. Diets always start on Monday it’s the law.
