Scales saying I’m 9.2 stone can’t be right?

catphone · 28/12/2024 11:23

I am a size 12 top 14 legs. I have big thighs in my opinion and my arms have a bit of fat. I am 5ft 2 or 5ft 3. I bought Renpho scales and tried a number of times but it keeps showing me as 9.2. It can’t be right as others who say they’re the same weight are a size 10.

Clothes size doesn’t equal a standard weight - surely you know that?

HippeePrincess · 28/12/2024 11:24

I’m a size 8-10 at 9.2 stone but I’m 5ft8, everyone’s different.

Foodylicious · 28/12/2024 11:29

Do you have a hard floor anywhere in the house, or even the garden?
They are really variable on carpet or uneven floors.
I'm 5ft 2, size 14/16 (more 16) and am about 10st 10.
At 9st 2, I would be a 10-12.

Sayoonara · 28/12/2024 11:30

I'm exactly your size, height and weight.

DreadPirateRobots · 28/12/2024 11:30

I'm probably about 9.2 stone or more at 5'2" and wear a 6-8 but I weightlift and keep muscle easily.

Body comp is incredibly individual. Clothes size means little.

Sayoonara · 28/12/2024 11:31

Oh wait no I'm not I'm 10 stone 2!

KvotheTheBloodless · 28/12/2024 11:32

Different heights and body composition = different sizes. I'm 9st5, 5'6" and a small size 8, with 12% body fat. If my body fat was at the normal 25-30% I'd be a 10-12.

Your best bet is to gain muscle and lose fat if you want to be smaller - weight lifting, or body weight workouts at home, with plenty of protein in your diet.

...just done the conversion (I switched to thinking in kg some years back and very rarely weigh myself anyway) and I'm actually 9.4 stone.

Different people carry weight differently.

It sounds about right to me. At my fittest I was 9st or just under and same height and size 12.

What is your build ?
I don't think my bones would fit in a 10 without anything else.

Changingplace · 28/12/2024 11:36

Body weight doesn’t automatically correspond to clothes size.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 28/12/2024 11:38

Weight doesn't equal clothes size. Are the scales on a hard floor though?

Saltedcaramelfudge · 28/12/2024 11:43

You're quite short so that weight will be carried differently.

CoolNoMore · 28/12/2024 11:47

I'm 5'2" and 9 stone would be my normal weight. I'd be a 10 on the bottom and 12 on top if not stretchy. 14 seems unlikely unless your hip bones are very wide?

ChewieChewieChewie · 28/12/2024 11:49

I'm a similar height and was a size 14 on the bottom at a little over 11 stone. I lost a stone and still wear a 14. It depends on shape, not weight. I was quite surprised tbh. It'll be interesting to see when I hit a 12 - the size I used to wear.

I also really wouldn't trust clothing labels to be accurate. I have trousers that fit and trousers that dont. The labels on all of them say 14 but the actual size is definitely different!

CraftyNavySeal · 28/12/2024 11:50

Why would you believe random people telling you their clothes size over your actual scales

Bellyblueboy · 28/12/2024 11:51

I am 5’2 and 10st 2 and wear a size 12.

at 9st 2 I would be a size 10, or 8 in some styles/brands

DeffoNeedANameChange · 28/12/2024 11:53

I always think I weigh surprisingly little - I feel like 9 stone 4 at 5'6" should be pretty slim, but I'm a 12-14 with a lot of fat around my midsection.

For me, I think it must be because I have very little muscle mass. I have friends who are much more athletic, and much slimmer (wear smaller sizes, and with no muffin top bulging!) but who weigh up to a stone more than I do.

LondonSpaPool · 28/12/2024 11:58

I’m 5’2 also and 8.6 stone and I’m usually size 8-10 (I own a few 6s, no 12s). I’m moderately active, so can’t have that much muscle mass (never go to the gym, but live in London with no car so walk a lot). Going up 2 sizes for only half a stone more seems a lot, but I guess it might depend where you carry the weight.

Hellohelga · 28/12/2024 12:02

I am your height and size 8-10 at 8 stone.
Size 12-14 at 9 stone sounds about right, depending on shape.

Pibrea · 28/12/2024 12:10

It’s because you’re short

LostittoBostik · 28/12/2024 12:13

It's correct. It's your height. Every pound affects clothing when you're short.

I'm 5ft 1in. I've put on a good 10lb in the last year due to onset of perimenopause (I'm in my 40s). I'm now 8st 12lb and very much a size 12.

After being 8/10 my whole life it's v confronting.

LostittoBostik · 28/12/2024 12:14

Bellyblueboy · 28/12/2024 11:51

Hmmm... we are all different but I'm 5ft 1in and only go down to a size 8 when I'm below 8st 3lb.

mjdle · 28/12/2024 12:16

Did you have other scales before? What did they say or the last time you were weighed yourself what were you? Doesn't sound correct but everyone is different. If there's a big difference in what these scales say and the last time you weighed yourself and you still have the same body composition then the scales are probably wrong so may need returning x

mjdle · 28/12/2024 12:19

Sorry meant today that's based on me being 5'3, have a bigger lower body, hover between 9st 9 and 10st 🙂
