Thanks for all of your congrats and hi to the new people I stuck to plan yesterday as i'm not really sure how to go about maintaining.

We had a relief consultant on Tuesday and she didn't give me any info as to what to do. I think that it's just that you get an extra healthy b each day but i'm not sure. Would rather have an extra 6 syns (for wine) than another heb iykwim.

The nice weather has finally broke here in the south today. I'm going to roast some beetroot and butternut squash to put in with couscous today. Might also make a fritatta type thing to keep in the fridge.

Hi to shiraz and 3andnomore

(3anm, have name-changed a while ago...it's laloop from our old exercise thread if you remember me . I put nearly a stone on during winter due to too much eating and not enough exercising, so it's back to the diet and exercise for me too).

NappyAddict, branston pickle is the 'secret' ingredient in all my curries too!

I wasn't as good yesterday as I should have been due to night out on Tuesday. Was hungover and feeling picky. I did go out for a walk but don't think that will balance out the foods I was snacking on. So the speed food challenge starts properly today for me.

Good luck for today everyone. I'm have a mega-cleaning morning so will hopefully burn lots of calories and out running tonight.

Good morning all

Well summer is probably over here in S.Wales and the rain is back along with a chilly wind (could actually see my breath when I was getting in the car this morning - what's all that about in mid-May??)

So I feel a hankering for something comfort like and on a red day - any ideas?? Shiraz, your quiche idea sounds good, have to say I've never made one, how would I make one for a red day?

Also, did anyone catch the password this week? I glanced at it on Monday but completely forgotten it now! Ta!

McDreamy · 15/05/2008 10:17

One and a half pound gain this week

supersaluki · 15/05/2008 10:32

Welcome to the new peeps - great team this I am sure it is making all the difference to my motivation levels

This week I am really pleased to announce that I lost 2lb

sticktoit you can make a free red day quiche by mixing free cottage cheese eggs meat of your choice - eg ham with free veg of your choice - herbs and seasoning to taste - pop it in the oven till cooked
I always cook all my veg first

you can also add a healthy B of sliced new potatoes with their skins on or wholemeal pasta
and also healthy extra a of grated cheese

McDreamy - draw a line under it and start again - I often have gains and they can be so demotivating - but focus on the big picture
this is like taking a journey - some of us dont just blat up the motorway - some of us take the scenic route - and those like me stop for picnics on the way too however we still get there

sticktoit · 15/05/2008 10:38

Cheers super - I'll make one for tea I think!!

toadette · 15/05/2008 10:41

Mcdreamy, don't be disheartened. Sometimes my biggest losses have been the week after a gain because I've forced myself to go back to basics with the diet. Make sure you're writing everything down, measuring HE's etc. Good luck for this week

supersaluki - thanks for that! i love quiche but i don't really like the pasta sauces that seem to be the ingredient for all the slimming world quiches.

today for lunch i am having stir fry. Steamed some brocolli, green beans & spring onions in a splash of water in a fry pan (with lid on) till done, threw in some cooked chicken and prawns and at the end stirred in a good splash of soy sauce, a flat tbsp crunchy peanut butter and mixed some more water in to thin the peanut butter into a sauce. It's yummy! and only 4 syns on a red day. Ds seems to like it too

nappyaddict · 15/05/2008 11:37

is anyone else a cheese addict like me and thinks the healthy extra amount looks miniscule? well i have a tip for you ... if you use a vegetable peeler to cut it off the block you get really thin slices and it looks like loads. especially good for sarnies and cheese on toast.

SWlurker · 15/05/2008 11:52

nappy addict - you need to get creative with quiche stuff! as long as you have cottage cheese and eggs, the other ingredients are entirely up to you! Think of it a bit like a pizzeria where you get to choose your own toppings, without the guilt of eating pizza

I had an ok day yesterday - did have a lolly from the van but it was a twister - a heavenly 4.5 syns! Had a jacket potato with HEa stilton and sliced apple with a massive salad and some mayo - 2 syns. it was GORGEOUS and I am going back to same sandwich shop to get very similar lunch today - might try HEb salmon and HEa cream cheese...

Nursejo · 15/05/2008 11:57

Can we join in please? my DH and I have recently done the CD(all liqued) and he lost 2 stone and me a stone in 2 weeks, but we felt so deprived,so we thought we'd join Slimming World tonight,as it seems a good diet to follow

nappyaddict · 15/05/2008 12:12

just found this recipe which looks good so am trying it for tea tonight.

6 eggs
1 medium onion
1 can tuna/1 can salmon/corned beef/4-5 oz bacon cooked and chopped up/1 chicken breast cooked and chopped up
28g cheddar or 42 grams half fat cheddar if using HEb or cottage cheese for a free quiche
1 tomato
Par boiled broccoli (nice with salmon)
Water Beat the eggs in a large mixing bowl or jug.
Finely dice the onion and mix into egg. Remove fat from corned beef (not always needed but sometimes you get a lot around the outside of it.
Mash corned beef and mix into egg mixture. Or stir whatever filling you are using.

Grate the cheese and add this to the other ingredients. If it is too stiff add a little water, it should be a thick consistancy but pourable.
Pour mixture into an over proof dish. Thinly slice tomato and arrange on top of mixture, if you want to use a little more cheese sprinkle on top.
Bake in oven gas mark 6 or 200 degrees celsius for around 45 minutes test to see if it is set by stabbing it with a thin bladed knife or skewer, it should come out wet but with no sloppy egg looking goo on it. Also the mixture should not wobble too much as you move the dish. When it is at this stage turn up the heat to full for 10 minutes this will give you a skin around the bottom which will be your "pastry". This is not compulsory but I like it this way.
Remove it from the oven and leave to stand for a few minutes before serving. This allows the "quiche" to lift away from the sides of the dish slightly making it easier to serve. I served this with New potatoes and a salad.

I love thai curry but coconut milk is 13.5 syns for a can. What can i use as an alternative?

Shiraz · 15/05/2008 12:23

Ooh nappyaddict i am there with you!!! I LOVE CHEESE! So thaks for that tip I'm sure i've seena thai curry recipe somewhere - i'll see if i can find it!

Just thought i'd pop in and say hi all!

Wel i've just popped a quiche in the oven for lunch - today i'm trying to make it with the pasta 'n' sauce - never done it this way before - but it smells delish! I've just added some chopped chestnut mushrooms and grated a little applewood cheddar to mix in to it - so we'll see how that goes.

Tonight i am doing spicy sweet potato wedges with roast aubergine and courgettes with trout fillet as a HEB.

SW Lurker that lunch sounds amazing!!!! Yummy!

nappyaddict · 15/05/2008 12:43

oh if you could find a thai recipe that would be great. i have googled it but couldn't find one.

Shiraz · 15/05/2008 14:22

Okasy so i tried the pasta n sauce quiche - but i didn't enjoy it as much as my usual with veggies and bacon or sliced new potates and veggies - however it was still nice

I really would like your ideas when it comes to ideas for packc ups! I usualy just take meat and sald or prawns and salad, new potatoes and sald etc etc. So any ideas welcome!

Shiraz · 15/05/2008 14:32

Apologies for my typing! DD was sat on my knees

SWlurker · 15/05/2008 15:19

Shiraz are you mainly red or a mixture?

I do green lunch help - but not much use with red lol!!

3andnomore · 15/05/2008 15:57

hi toadette...yes I still remember you and your old id laloop

Well, had a good eatng day so far, although, have not actually eaten that much all day, because I have been out more or less all day...but what I had was all good stuff
And I shall start cooking Dinner in a moment because must go to a parents evening later...
We'll have Plaice fillets with grilled veggies and New Potatoes with Philly!
Must check out that Philly is "free food"...it's very low fat, etc...

Shiraz · 15/05/2008 16:32

I'm sure philly is syn'd - laughing cow are hea's

Green lunches i really need help with - i ahve mixture of reds and greens - but just lost with ideas for greens

nappyaddict · 15/05/2008 16:56

for green lunches i have omelettes, jacket potatoes, scambled egg, kedgeree (use healthy extra for prawns), bacon (healthy extra bacon) in rice with onions, peppers, peas, sweetcorn, some thai spice and soya sauce, minestrone soup, veg soup, parsnip soup, carrot and coriander soup, pea and mint soup, leek and butterbean soup etc, quiche, pasta or egg noodles with various sauces, cajun rice, egg fried rice, veg risotto, cous cous with spring onions, coriander, chick peas, peppers, chilli, lemon juice, fresh tomatoes -whatever you fancy!

also i freeze bananas on lolly sticks to make a nice alternative to ice cream - takes ages to eat too. frozen grapes are also nice.

sometimes if i am craving cake I use 3 slices of nimble soaked in egg and splenda - spray fry lite in frying pan and make French toast - you can add cinnamon and sliced up strawberries and raspberries or a slice of fried bacon and it feels "wicked" but is a healthy extra. sometimes i put a little bit of maple syrup on the bacon and syn it.

SWlurker · 15/05/2008 17:47

Ooh NA good ideas there I will pinch!

how about - cold pasta salad - pasta, sweetcorn, spring onion, free salad dressing (or I like 6 L.cow lights) - or tuna pasta salad (make HEa tuna up with VLF mayo , it goes a long way mixed up with pasta and sweetcorn) - cous cous or rice with "stuff" in...... if you do a rice or pasta dish for dinner, generally it tastes ok cold for lunch the next day

If you have a microwave, then...
jacket potatoes with..
HEb ham/chicken/bacon/tuna mixed with low fat may (some syns) or fromage frais or quark with seasoning (free)
Good old baked beans
hummus - homemade is free - blend tin chickpeas with garlic, lemon juice and a fromage frais.
Mixed bean salad (tinned) and fromage frais
Tin of spaghetti or beans with smash

nappyaddict · 15/05/2008 19:02

if you buy hummus or mayo rather than make your own you can make it free by mixing it with quark. left overnight the quark takes on the hummus/mayo flavour and you can then have as much as you like - you just have to syn however much you put in the mixture the first time you use it and then after that it's free.

nappyaddict · 15/05/2008 20:16

btw somerfield onion rings crisps are only 3.5 syns a bag.

nappyaddict · 15/05/2008 20:29

and the good for you salt and vinegar fries are only 2.5 syns. gotta get me some of those.

Furball · 15/05/2008 20:38
