How would you feel if you ate this

boymum36 · 14/08/2024 11:57

For context I'm 36 and tdee is 1500 calories. I had bran flakes for breakfast, banana few hours later, followed by a cheese and cucumber sandwich and an apple soreen bar. It's midday and I'm now sitting here feeling so sick. I don't know if I've ate too much, not enough but I just feel awful.

Oh and to add no caffeine but lots of water

Seems like a lot of food to me. I’ve had strawberries and Greek yogurt with a desert soon of ground almonds.

pancakesunday · 14/08/2024 11:59

Maybe you've eaten too much too fast. Sounds like the sandwich should've been your lunch maybe

BrookGreen54 · 14/08/2024 11:59

Not sure why you’re asking MN this question? In all likelihood you’re just feeling sick - nothing to do with food. I’d consider it quite a lot considering it’s not even 12pm yet but everyone’s body runs differently. I’m not a morning eater but you may be.

MonsteraMama · 14/08/2024 12:04

It does sound a lot before noon, but I'm a big eater and wouldn't feel sick after that, just full. Maybe you've just overdone it with the fibre? Bran flakes, banana and soreen loaf are all quite high in fibre aren't they?

Not much you can do now as it's already eaten, go for a walk if you can and just don't have anything else for a while!

MagneticSquirrel · 14/08/2024 12:06

I would feel fine, but I tend to be hungry in the mornings. It’s certainly not even a full English or as much as I’d have for breakfast on holiday … given a sandwich = 2 slices of toast.

That’s like having cereal, fruit and toast plus a danish (soreen bar) wouldn’t make me feel sick even if I had it all in one sitting. for breakfast.

Socksey · 14/08/2024 12:07

Quantity is probably fine.... but it's nearly all carbs.... you need some balance, so some fats and protein.... I'd probably feel a little off after that too

Lj8893 · 14/08/2024 12:09

Seems quite a lot of food before midday.

I would usually have had a protein shake/coffee and then some fruit mid morning.
Occasionally I may have some yogurt if I am hungry but normally save that for a mid afternoon snack.

Comedycook · 14/08/2024 12:16

I wouldn't feel especially full but equally I'd be full up. What time was breakfast? Seems quite early to have had lunch unless you have breakfast very early

NewlifeTry · 14/08/2024 12:38

That’s not a lot of good but it’s very very carb heavy which can make you feel sick

chatw0o0p · 14/08/2024 12:43

it's not a much protein so maybe you're feeling full in a bleurgh way after the sandwich and Soreen but not really satisfied full? How about some eggs, or green yoghurt & fruit/nuts or something like that instead of the bran flakes?

I'm going through a phase of making boiled eggs & cottage cheese on toast - it sounds a bit gross but really is quite tasty. Kind of like egg mayo but with the cheese instead!

Lj8893 · 14/08/2024 13:03

I aim to have 20-30g of protein per meal (at least). Definitely worth a try OP.

Blink282 · 14/08/2024 13:08

I don’t tend to eat until about 1pm so that would make me feel sick, but what’s normal for you? That’s surely the important thing.

Menora · 14/08/2024 14:34

I think I would find its stodgy it’s all thick carbs which would be now sitting together, there are bran flakes, bread, banana and also the malt bread which will take a while to digest, none of those are rapid digestion foods and they will take a lot of water and are bulky.

Chewbecca · 14/08/2024 14:35

Go for a walk.

MiddleAgedDread · 14/08/2024 14:38

How the hell do people think this is a lot of food?? Is possibly because you've had a lot of carbs and too much water?

DameKatyDenisesClagnuts · 14/08/2024 14:39

Lolz to the performative dieters people saying that's a lot of food

Is that not a lot of food then? Genuine question. I posted a thread the other day because I as an obese woman with a hormonal disorder really struggle to lose weight and am only able to lose/maintain weight by eating what I eat. If I ate what the OP has eaten before lunchtime, it would negatively affect my weight.

Exactly! Way too many carbs.

DameKatyDenisesClagnuts · 14/08/2024 14:49

For context, I'm also watching what I eat at the min and supposed to be having 1200 kcal/day. I'm finding it quite hard.

She's hardly fallen face down into a box of malteasers though. She's had a perfectly normal breakfast, lunch and snack.

For me, that’s a lot of food. If I had that I wouldn’t want lunch & wouldn’t be very hungry by supper time.

It’s too carb heavy for me, and lacks protein so I’d be craving something like salmon by supper.

Maybe instead of a cheese & cucumber sandwich, have a slice of toast with Philadelphia light & smoked salmon, ham or Serrano plus a small salad or even just tomatoes.

Personally I find I have to add salt or my body feels meh but I have POTS and salt helps.

A rough calc in MFP assumed 55g of bran flakes,200ml of semi skimmed milk, 2 slice of wholemeal bread and 30g of cheddar cheese puts this around 750-800 calories so only about half of the OP's TDEE.

For me that would be too many quick releasing carbs- if you add nuts and seeds on your cereal and some full fat yoghurt and berries that would be more enjoyable. Some peanut butter with the banana. Quality of bread- toasted sourdough, maybe some avocado for healthy fats and another type of protein like some tinned tuna and some cherry tomatoes.

mfhtoeh · 14/08/2024 14:57

Btw look up soluble & insoluble fibre. A lot of your food is insoluble fibre that will sit heavy in your digestive system.

Diet is easy to play around with & see what works well for you, but you could see a dietician privately if you feel maybe you’re lacking knowledge or focus.

Mushable · 14/08/2024 14:58

I don't think it's loads but it's all sugar. Branflakes/banana - sugar
Bread/soreen bar - sugar

Better to have eggs for breakfast to keep you filled up or full fat Greek yogurt and berries instead of banana.

Lunch better with cheese/salad or tuna/hard boiled eggs with salad if you didn't have them earlier. Whole meal bread if you must. But better to have carbs veg like beetroot etc rather than bread. Soreen is processed crap.
