How would you feel if you ate this

For context I'm 36 and tdee is 1500 calories. I had bran flakes for breakfast, banana few hours later, followed by a cheese and cucumber sandwich and an apple soreen bar. It's midday and I'm now sitting here feeling so sick. I don't know if I've ate too much, not enough but I just feel awful.

A rough calc in MFP assumed 55g of bran flakes,200ml of semi skimmed milk, 2 slice of wholemeal bread and 30g of cheddar cheese puts this around 750-800 calories so only about half of the OP's TDEE.

But it’s the types of food too, it’s all carbs and sugar.

Plus the banana and soreen bar which is likely another 200cals roughly. Eating over half of your daily calories before midday is quite a lot in my opinion.

MiddleAgedDread · 14/08/2024 15:10

@Lj8893 that includes the banana and soreen bar. Given that breakfast and lunch takes you to half way through the day and accounts for 2 of your 3 main meals I’m not sure how eating half your daily calories in that time can be considered excessive??

Menora · 14/08/2024 15:52

It’s not the calories of the food it’s that they are all the same type of food pretty much and it’s stodgy. If you want to eat half your calories before noon that’s up to you but try to have a variety of different foods?

i personally would feel uncomfortable eating my lunch that early, I assumed the sandwich was not lunch as it was before noon.
However, she may have had her breakfast very early and may then have her dinner early.

PensionMention · 14/08/2024 16:06

If you’re used to caffeine you may feel awful not having had any at all.

Sounds a lot to me but I fast 18 hours a day

Skippingropes · 14/08/2024 16:12

Could be all sorts of reasons, doesn't sound like a lot to have eaten before midday, my maintenance calories are similar and I'm always hungrier in the first part of the day. I agree with others it's probably more the macros- try having more of an appropriate split between protein, fats and carbs.

If you're used to eating more and having caffeine this change can also make your stomach unsettled for a bit.

marmiteoneverything · 14/08/2024 16:14

I would feel absolutely fine if I ate that- it’s a very normal breakfast and a slightly early lunch. It’s not ‘not enough’ food, but it’s definitely not too much either.

If you’re feeling very sick then I would assume it’s a coincidence and either you’ll feel fine soon or you’re coming down with a bug.

Cheesecakecookie · 14/08/2024 16:16

Assuming the sandwich is your lunch it sounds fairly normal to me.

But im not on a diet.

dbeuowlxb173939 · 14/08/2024 16:23

Depends what I was doing really but would probably feel fine. But I wouldn't need to eat anything else until dinner, I'm always hungrier in the morning compared to afternoon.

Don't eat if you're not hungry though, maybe it's just more food than you needed today.

Also if I drink too much water I can feel sick, sips often through the day is better.

For context, I'm also watching what I eat at the min and supposed to be having 1200 kcal/day. I'm finding it quite hard.

She's hardly fallen face down into a box of malteasers though. She's had a perfectly normal breakfast, lunch and snack.

Nobody needs to eat that little unless you literally don't move at all. Up yourself to 1500 at least!

There's hardly any protein there, and lots of carbs - I'd be hungry and crashing.

strawberryandtomato · 14/08/2024 16:30

It's all subjective OP.
I can literally not eat until 2pm and then eat 800 cals in one sitting.

Everyone is different.
It's a lot of sugar and carbs.
Protein would help.

But no, it isn't a lot of food. Unless you ate the whole baguette.
But I constantly eat. My daily calories are 2000. This is maintenance.
I am 62kg. I do gym a lot.

Everyone is different.

bostonchamps · 14/08/2024 16:36

chatw0o0p · 14/08/2024 12:43

it's not a much protein so maybe you're feeling full in a bleurgh way after the sandwich and Soreen but not really satisfied full? How about some eggs, or green yoghurt & fruit/nuts or something like that instead of the bran flakes?

I'm going through a phase of making boiled eggs & cottage cheese on toast - it sounds a bit gross but really is quite tasty. Kind of like egg mayo but with the cheese instead!

Surely green yoghurt would make the OP feel even sicker GrinGrin

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 14/08/2024 16:40

To me that sounds like a lot to have eaten by 12pm - were you planning to have lunch as well? I eat breakfast at 10:30am (at my desk in work) I have greek yoghurt with (defrosted) berries and some granola. I don't eat again then until 1pm.

For what it's worth, I love the taste of bran flakes but they really don't agree with me for some reason, I get stomach pains (only with bran flakes, I can tolerate any other cereal !). Maybe it's something similar going on with you?

cocobeaner · 14/08/2024 16:43

That's pretty much what I would eat for breakfast and lunch, bar the cucumber because it's disgusting. Fair enough you've eaten lunch early, but if you had the bran flakes at 6:30am or something it's hardly some gluttonous amount of food.

People on here are obsessed with carbs being the enemy though so what would I know? I've maintained a BMI of about 21 for pretty much my whole life and I eat carbs at every opportunity. I really don't think overall that's 'a lot of food' for most normal people.

LindorDoubleChoc · 14/08/2024 16:47

I would feel a bit bloated (but I'm like that after bread of any kind Sad and it's getting worse as I get older) but not sick. Perhaps you're coming down with something? Hope you feel better soon.

I don't think people are obsessed with carbs, but just as if someone had mostly fats or mostly protein in a meal, you won't feel as good as if it was a decent balance of the 3.

Ponderingwindow · 14/08/2024 16:53

I would feel awful because it’s not enough protein for me to start the day.

PocketSand · 14/08/2024 16:54

Personally. I would feel crap but I dirty fast and have tea with milk and a little sugar during the day and have one protein rich meal with low carbs around 6pm. It depends on how you feel. My diet would be awful for most people but it works for me as pre diabetic and I'm used to it

I think it's about finding what works for you.

HollyKnight · 14/08/2024 16:58

Be careful not to drink too much water too fast. That can knock your electrolytes off and make you feel sick.

farfromideal · 14/08/2024 17:27

That's all carbs and no protein. I would feel sick as well

DameKatyDenisesClagnuts · 14/08/2024 18:03

@strawberryandtomato
That's assuming I literally don't move. I'm very active and add calories I've burned back to my eating allowance

Apart from the cheese and milk ....

That doesn't seem that much to me - not too little

Perhaps you are just poorly - covid is making people feel sick

PetrichorSoul · 14/08/2024 18:28

I would feel sick too. Probably having a hypoglycaemic episode after so much sugar.

Start your day with protein and fat like eggs.
