Anyone else out there with 5 plus stones to lose? Who fancies doing a weekly weigh in with me?

I have got really overweight in the last couple of years and would love to meet some others who might be trying to cut down but not exactly dieting. Where do you start when there is so much to lose? Any tips on evening snacking? TIA

Choc - No cant say i have heard of it! is it a real life book or a blog? lol

Jaz - never heard of it but fried cheese sounds a bit.... erm..... wrong! Melted cheese is fine, but i dont think i could fry it lol.

I have come to confess and eat my words (diet ones of course).

After all I said (I don't know if it was on this thread or not though) I am considering crossing over to the other side (slimming world). I am getting nowhere fast and I NEED to have a small loss before 25th June, not get fatter.
I still stick by my opinion that it isn't as "balanced diet-ish" as WW or Rosemary Conley, and in parts could be considered a bit faddish (only IMO, each to their own), but I have lost a stone with it before and now DH is back at work it might be easier for me to stick to? I am only in the thinking and beating myself up stages of this decision but will keep you posted.

I am going to try a bigger breakfast though as DH & I have 1/2 an hour between the kids going to school and him leaving for work where we can sit down and eat together peacefully - I'm thinking eggs, fruit salad, freash bread...

jaz236 · 22/05/2008 10:58

Its greek cheese RgPargy its lovley u should try it,, u slice a little off and shalow fry it and whack on salads - beautiful - looks like mozarella - its actually on one of the WEW recipes which is salad so no harm done then, id try it if u can control yourself though! ha - adn i defo cant!

jaz236 · 22/05/2008 11:00

I mean WW recipes"

RGPargy · 22/05/2008 12:19

Ria - each to their own! If you find it helps you to go to SW then do it! Doesn't mean to say you have to leave this thread tho so there's no escaping!

Jaz - Hmmmm i'm terrible with cheese tho. once i have a little bit i'd want more and more so i try and avoid it now! I might just have to try some tho, it sounds lovely!

I'm sticking with this thread whatever - you won't get rid of me easily.

I don't think I'll bother join another thread TBH, they're sometimes less understanding than this one. Tho it is useful to get SW password reminders.

I am finding it really difficult and if I could just lose something it might motivate me more. I'll have a read of my old books tonight.

ChipButty · 22/05/2008 13:19

ChocolateSpiders I agree 'The Amazing Adventures of Diet Girl' by Shauna Reid really is an inspiring book. I keep it with me to turn to in those moments of weakness when you juast want to stuff your face. Have you read her blog?

Ria - SW is excellent, I think. It's what I'm vaguely following. Being vegetarian, unlimited rice, pasta, potatoes really suits me. I hope you find something that suits you soon. I have read that you have been playing lots of tennis so you could be gaining muscle (heavier) and losing inches [hopeful emoticon]?

Was celebrating yesterday and ate/drank more than I should have. Why is it that today I'm so starving and just want stodge? Wish I could fast forward through these first 4 or so stone that I have to lose. That would make the end seem so much closer!

Keep trying everyone. Good luck!

chocolatespiders · 22/05/2008 13:28

no i havent i will look it out
thanks

Ags · 22/05/2008 15:27

Chocolate, well done! You must be very pleased with yourself and the lasagne didn't make a difference in the end.

Ria, good luck with SW if that is what you decide. I've never been but did consider it briefly before rejoining ww in Jan. The only reason I went ww was because it was familiar and I thought it would be easier.

Chip, it is really hard to keep motivated at the beginning. That is why so many of my diets start on Monday morning and end by Monday around 3 ish! You just feel very 'whats the point' about it all. It is really important to focus on the first half stone and then the first stone and forget about the bigger picture. But easier said than done I know!

Jaz, halloumi is yum. Had it for the first time relatively recently. Salty and tasty. The points for it are 40g - 3.5 points. So a point less per 40g than cheddar! However, you also have to factor in whatever you fry it in. So it is not dreadful if you have it with salad.

I had a complete blow out on Tuesday (weigh in day) ending with an Indian with dh! So I am still trying to make up for it by being ultra good. Had drinks at a friends house last night and avoided the crisps (actually not a mad crisp fan so that wasn't too hard). Just had lunch with a friend which was tesco bbq chicken fillets, salad and coleslaw. 6.5 points for a very filling and satisfying meal.

RiaButterflew · 22/05/2008 16:03

eternally hopeful, that's me

jaz236 · 22/05/2008 16:13

i think by the end of the year we should all be looking glam! and its a shame we couldnt all do a big nite out for us all in the end!! that would be good - alrthough i would want to go to an eat as much as u like place!

salad and prawns tnite! went to tescos before and saw halluomi and didnt buy it as its naughty Ill buy it another tme when i feel like a treat

sandramaryb · 22/05/2008 17:34

Amazing Adventures... sounds really good and after all your reviews am going to get a copy.

I had a good week and weighed-in today and had lost 4lbs so am over the moon . Perhaps it will be possible after all to buy something nice to wear on my 40th which is at the end of August.

Sandra, brilliant! Half a stone. Well done. And you will definately be buying something nice for the big 40 if you carry on like this!

ChipButty · 22/05/2008 20:02

I've read a bit today about people frying halloumi. The best way to eat it is grilled or barbecued. You don't need to put anything extra on it, although it's very nice marinated in a mixture of tomato ketchup, olive oil, white wine vinegar and garlic, then made into veggie kebabs for the BBQ.

Ags · 22/05/2008 20:39

Mmmmm Chip sounds delicious! Nice recipe.

RGPargy · 22/05/2008 20:46

Well done Choc and Sandra!

I had a lovely lunch today! Do you ever get those days when you just cant satisfy your appetite and are constantly hungry? Well today has been one of those days so i thought i would treat myself to a big lunch. Here's what i had (and very filling it was too!):

3 Turkey rashers (1 point)
2 eggs (4 points)
Mushrooms (0 points)
Snack pot couscous (2 points)
2 slices WW bread & spread (2 points)

All that food for a yummy 9 points! Saying that, i have 27 points to play with so i can afford to have days like that. I felt full up before i even ate the bread but, well, i'd buttered it already and it was on my plate so it would have been rude not to eat it.

For dinner tonight i had pork escalopes with veg and more couscous (yes, i love the stuff!) so that was about 5 points altogether.

Ags · 22/05/2008 21:30

Well done RG! I love that kind of lunch. It feels very satisfying! So what the hell else did you eat today? That is only 14 points accounted for. What did you have for the other 13?

jasper · 22/05/2008 23:28

You can "fry " halloumi in a good non stick pan without adding any oil at all.

You can get a lower fat version so as long as you exercise portion control it's fine to enjoy some.

It really is delicious but I always want to scoff the whole block so I avoid it altogether.

jaz236 · 23/05/2008 07:47

oh my chip butty stop it!! im off to tescos now and Ill ave to avoid that isle!¬

ChipButty · 23/05/2008 10:14

Sorry, Jaz! I think it's ok as an occasional treat though.
