Anyone have 2-3 stone to lose but DOES NOT use injectables

Anyone want a support thread to drop 2-3 stone but finding the ozempic/wegovy etc threads overwhelming on here. They aren't useful to me and there are so many threads on here about the damn stuff.

A previous thread I saw basically said diet and exercise without the injectables would fail for most. I don't want to touch the stuff for a variety of reasons but mainly the hideous side effects and pile on weight when you stop. Not to mention cost.

I'm looking to do it the "old fashioned" way... 1200-1500 calories on my fitness pal and exercise increasing. No particular time limit.

SW: 12 stone 2
I'm really short too so ideally I need to be 10 stone something max

I'm 40 and deffo in perimenopause

@EmeraldRoulette there are a lot of reasons for this but it’s been proven that women can lose a lot of muscle mass when they restrict calories and you will do better maintaining a loss long term if you have a decent amount of muscles. It’s not ideal to want to be thin and scrawny, muscle is what will keep us mobile for longer as we age

It's not me that doesn't agree with this,
i see others talking about exercise as pointless

I was just trying to be very polite and careful so I didn't get someone shouting at me.

hopefully this thread is a nicer place! Nice also not to have long lists of what people ate etc.

Menora · 06/06/2024 15:37

@EmeraldRoulette its ok I was agreeing with you I see it too! Sorry for confusion. I think it’s fine to talk about the other benefits of exercise it’s not just weight loss it’s mental health and future proofing 👍🏻

OneDayIWillLearn · 06/06/2024 15:59

I think what people are maybe reacting to is the idea that if you exercise even a little you will magically lose lots of weight. I remember a woman (years ago) at Weight Watchers grumbling about not having lost much weight because she had ‘even cycled around to her mums house once this week’ (her mum lived in the same area!) but hadn’t stuck to the plan on eating.

I totally agree though, exercise has about a zillion benefits and I’m sure gentle, regular exercise has helped me lose and maintain weight. Taking regular exercise is a non negotiable for me really, and if I ever find myself getting out of the habit I make it priority to start again, whatever is going on with my eating and weight.

Incidentally I always tracked and ate my ‘activity points’ on WW when I did it and always lost weight still…

Blacknailer · 06/06/2024 17:26

Yeah it's frame of mind for me. I'm dealing with anxiety amd various things so it's helpful. Also strength and flexibility for other reasons than weight loss. But of course it does help with that too even if diet is the primary issue.

dreamstates · 06/06/2024 20:13

I need to exercise. Thing is, I love it when I'm doing it. I just can't get motivation to start it. It's one reason I pay for a pt come to my house. I'm paying him to keep me consistent. He's on holiday this week though.

Terrible news about Michael Mosley. I am following his plan. Roughly. Fast 800. 5:2. Etc I do hope he is found. I just finished his book.

Weight is static. It's so hard these days. I started at around 12 st 3

And now I'm hovering 11:13 or 12:0

Sighhhhhh so slow

@dreamstates I am guessing a personal trainer makes the workouts really tough?

are you saying you lost 3lb since you started the thread? I think that’s really good!

dreamstates · 06/06/2024 20:42

@EmeraldRoulette yes it is tough but it's only one hour a week. We do 30 mins of weights. And 20 mins or so of boxing. It's certainly much harder than I work when left to exercise alone!

I've been thinking about restarting couch to 5k again.

I'm currently at my desk working (did I mention I have a stressful job haha) it gets in way of life so much.

3lb is pretty good but I'm still shocked how quick weight seems to go on me these days.

Im not sure if it's age or hormones (had a coil fitted in November) but it's deffo been harder since then. Maybe coincidence though.

Well, I've increased my exercise class to twice a week. Aiming to get up to 3 times a week...but ooyah! Sore glutes!

Keepthosenamesgoing · 09/06/2024 06:43

Argh. Fell off the wagon massively yesterday. Just lacking in all motivation. Ate a pizza for dinner (well most of) and had ice cream and caramel sauce for dessert. And a negroni.
That was not my finest day!

So good to find this thread! I’ve been despairing about the number of threads on injectables in WLC - I really wish @MNHQ would give them their own separate category like CC and SW and WW because all other advice is now being completely swamped by them.

Anyhow, I am a stone down on the new WW plan, with about a stone and a half to go. At 52 and in menopause it’s slow going but I’m not in a particular rush. The diet bit is going okay but I still need to curb my crisp addiction! I’m finding exercise is key overall, which I haven’t really built into previous weight loss attempts. We’re getting a dog soon and I’m really looking forward to all the daily walks!

Again, thanks for starting this thread, @dreamstates, it’s really welcomed!

Yes me too - went to a friend’s lunchtime party, started off well but then had a couple of glasses of fizz and then carried on drinking fizz all afternoon and ate about a gazillion crisps. and ended the day with a sushi takeaway! Oops. I do usually let myself be less strict at the weekend though and I am a firm believer it’s not that one day which will be make or break for your diet. Today’s a new day etc!

Keepthosenamesgoing · 09/06/2024 08:37

@OneDayIWillLearn at least sushi dinner is reasonably healthy ? As you say though, write off yesterday and focus on new day today !

user1984778379202 · 09/06/2024 08:51

@OneDayIWillLearn Fizz is always my downfall too - always makes me fall headfirst into the nearest crisp bowl. For that reason I have knocked it on the head and now stick to non-alcohol fizz like Aldi’s Zerosecco. I’ve decided I’d rather be slimmer than tipsy/drunk when I’m out.

Menora · 09/06/2024 09:07

I was the same drinking a lot and this led to my weight gain tbh. I don’t drink Prosecco at all anymore if anything I drink low cal G&T or alcohol free. I don’t really like tonic that much which helps me drink less. I always want to eat more when I drink so addressing my alcohol intake was helpful for weight loss

Hi can I join please.
I am 5ft and currently weighing 11st 1lbs which is putting my bmi at 30 for the first time. I had DD via C-section 12 weeks ago and have 2ds at home and I'm really feeling it - my joints and back are so sore. I have NO clothes that fit that aren't leggings and don't really want to buy a new wardrobe as I'm now on half pay. I've been trying to calorie count - Nutracheck have given me 1450 calories a day and I've been going to a mum and baby exercise class twice a week for the last 3 weeks and trying to get out walks when I can but the scales have only shifted 1lb! I know I've been going over diet wise though especially when I'm feeling tired or am grabbing something on the go so I really want to try to curb this and hoping this thread will give me some accountability. I'm not bf this time so I don't need all those sugary snacks lol! I won't lie I've been tempted by the injectables and have read a few threads but I'd really like to try myself first. This is the first time the weight hasn't come off - I had complications and was on modified bed rest for the last few months of pregnancy so I really piled on the weight and I've still 2 stone to lose - I've a holiday booked for the beginning of October and i would love to be at least one stone down by then.

dreamstates · 09/06/2024 11:16

Re those that fall off the wagon, my trainer always says it’s not falling off the wagon that’s bad. It’s how quick you get back on.

I have to admit I’m past, if I fell off, I tended to stay off for a while…

i had a big birthday recently, big weekend away, then next weekend it was a party, then well it was Xmas, then I got injured… the excuses just kept coming and in total I was off the wagon for about 6 months! And a stone later… here we are.

My gosh just looked at all the other threads in here & they're all pretty much injectables!

So, than you for this thread op.
I really need to get serious if I'm going to get rid of this extra 3 st I have hanging around.

Really going to try to fast 16:8 all week & exercise.

Am doing slimpod too, but not sure if it's really kicked in yet.

LePetitMarseillias · 09/06/2024 17:51

@Mumsnet can the injectables have their own thread please? 🙏

EmeraldRoulette · 09/06/2024 18:01

Sounds like progress for all of us, we're sticking at it.

I've fallen off for the usual reason this week - insomnia.

I'm honestly hoping to be in bed by 9!

Haven't eaten anything outrageous but some chocolate cake. Which isn't great.

For weekday evenings, I'd really like some healthy meals that can just be heated through. At some point this week I will pop to M&S and see if there's anything. I usually have Tesco deliveries.

I would love a Wagamama style meal a couple of times a week. (Though I shouldn't be thinking about broth in June!!) But wondering about buying that fresh too. It's time to spend a bit more on good food I think - and I hate cooking and have no space, so all suggestions gratefully received, thanks!

Hello! Joining for support. I need to lose about 1.5 stone. I’m also very very short and so my body is not forgiving with calories. I’ve tried Noom and recently rejoined but find the calorie counting extremely serious. Normal pattern for me is to start really well but start snacking mid afternoon, eat too much at dinner, snack in the evening and then glasses of wine on the weekend too. I just need to cut the snacking, have a healthier dinner and cut out the wine. I really, really want to make this change but it does feel a battle of willpower.

Blacknailer · 09/06/2024 18:03

I was at a festival yesterday so I had ackee and saltfish with dumplings for lunch followed by pizza for dinner! Not the most healthy but I did walk around a lot.

Not lost any weight yet but I haven't really been trying to cut calories just to log food and eat more mindfully, and do some exercise. From tomorrow I'll start properly.

SiriAlexa · 09/06/2024 18:04

*find the calorie counting extremely tedious, not serious!

EmeraldRoulette · 09/06/2024 18:44

I am not calorie counting precisely. It's too boring. Basically if eating less and eating better works then great. if it doesn't, I don't imagine I'll go much further.

If you find calorie counting tedious, which I did too, you might get on well with the new WW programme. You get a daily allowance of points, plus extra points called 'weeklies' for treats, then you can also earn more points with exercise. Foods are, not surprisingly, given a certain point score which you log in the app, but 200 healthy foods have been designated zero points – inc fruits, vegetables, fish, chicken breast, pulses, eggs – and you can have unlimited amounts, so you don't need to track those if you don't want to. I don't bother myself, so it feels less like I'm always counting. The app is superb too. I've lost a stone since end of March and that includes half term where I massively overate!
