Anyone have 2-3 stone to lose but DOES NOT use injectables

Anyone want a support thread to drop 2-3 stone but finding the ozempic/wegovy etc threads overwhelming on here. They aren't useful to me and there are so many threads on here about the damn stuff.

A previous thread I saw basically said diet and exercise without the injectables would fail for most. I don't want to touch the stuff for a variety of reasons but mainly the hideous side effects and pile on weight when you stop. Not to mention cost.

I'm looking to do it the "old fashioned" way... 1200-1500 calories on my fitness pal and exercise increasing. No particular time limit.

SW: 12 stone 2
I'm really short too so ideally I need to be 10 stone something max

I'm 40 and deffo in perimenopause

Excuse my asking: what does "MFP" mean? Meal [Something] Planning?

Aha! Thank you. :)

I had a look at Noom, but it was dearer than I was prepared to pay.

dreamstates · 30/05/2024 22:39

I quite like my fitness pal but others use different (better?) apps to track.

this time I’m doing things a bit different. I have a journal! Old fashioned paper and pen! The journal tracks other things too - water, mood, exercise, thoughts on what went well etc
feels like I’m keeping a diary like I did when I was 12 🤣

Noom was ok but apparently nutracheck is the best app for counting calories

Blacknailer · 30/05/2024 23:50

I used to use weightlossresources.co.uk which has a very good UK database. I'd recommend that one too.

socks1107 · 26/05/2024 20:41

Yes I do. And don't use anything to help other than a natural supplement.
I've lost nearly two stone and probably should loose another two

Well done! How did you do that?

socks1107 · 31/05/2024 07:15

Duckeggy I calorie count, 1800 ish calories a day and walk 15k steps a day.
I also swim twice a week for 30 minutes but that's more for toning up and tend to eat those calories!!
No food or drink is off limits and if I go over I still log it for accountability. I'm not perfect by any means

Whitters1984 · 31/05/2024 10:41

Not sure if I should up my calories by 50? . I'm getting such bad headaches.

I already posted up thread about this, this is too low I don’t even eat this and I am shorter than you and 11st. Did you actually work out your TDEE or BMR before coming up with this number? You are eating LESS than what it takes to physically keep you alive (BMR) so you will feel terrible.

My BMR is 1400 or so. This is my lowest limit of what I should eat. Eating less than this will make it really hard for me to function every day.

if I am sedentary and never move around I can eat 1600 calories and not gain weight
if I am lightly active I can eat 1900 calories

as I am in a deficit I cut off 300-400 off the 1900/2000 ish and try to get some more activity in to bump up my deficit a little. So 1400-1600 a day is not impossible or below my bodies functionality. They say cut off 500 but you don’t have to, you can cut down any amount and it will eventually result in some weight loss

It’s really important to understand why this is important. Cutting too far will make you feel weak, unwell, lead to losing vital muscle mass and end up failing because its just not healthy

your body needs fuel to live

Whitters1984 · 31/05/2024 13:08

I've tried a few calculators, bit I never seem to loose , one today says I should have 1528 to loose , so might upy calories

If it’s only been 10 days I would give it some time to work out what is working but rather than start too low, start higher and cut off 50 if it’s not working

Things not going so well here. Combination of feeling unwell, a long long a&e trip yesterday and kids just constantly fighting and I've eaten a LOT of chocolate today while lying on the sofa.
I guess I'm going to try not to beat myself up too much about it.

Sounds like you've been having a tough time of it. I don't blame you for the chocolate!

Hope that A&E resolved matters.

Met my first issue yesterday..eating out.

Was so proud of myself.

There were so many yummy things on menu... cocktails, puddings, huge burgers.

Calories were on menu - one pudding alone was over 1000

I had

Steak, little pot of fries and rocket salad - 600 cal
And just Diet Coke
A couple of bites of husbands brownie

It could have been a total blow out but I kept it decent Grin

I think one thing that helped me was planning ahead. I reviewed menu before we got there and accounted for it in my day.

Oh well done.
I also went out but did not do any of those sensible things and ate and drank far too much. Oh dear. But I did measure my waist before I went out and I've lost 3cm from last Saturday so yay for that.
Your idea of reviewing the menu in advance is very clever !

SnugglyJumpersMakeItBetter · 02/06/2024 13:02

I'm absolutely with you @dreamstates ! It's scary all these people who are using injectables. I'm going to do it the traditional way!

Starting weight (2nd June) : 12.3

Goal weight (2nd September) 10.6

(Really I should be about 9.10, but 10.6 is reasonable and not so impossible seeming). Wish me luck everyone! I hope you can all achieve your goals of a healthy weight for you too!

LadyHester · 03/06/2024 10:57

Well one week in and three pounds down. Meal delivery definitely helped - it also provides two healthy snacks a day which keeps me away from the biscuit tin.
This Is despite a meal out (with wine!) on Saturday and coronation chicken and sticky toffee pudding at lunch with friends.

IAlwaysTellTheTruthEvenWhenILie · 04/06/2024 07:14

Can I join please? I am doing it the old fashioned way and very slowly. Still breastfeeding, so I give myself those extra 500 calories a day. I'm on 2100 calories and just focusing on walking more, no specific exercise. I'm down exactly 1 stone since January. I maintained for a month and now I'm going to tackle the next stone. I want to get two stone off in 2024, and two off in 2025. If I can maintain a four stone weight loss, I'd take it (and I'd still be classified as overweight).

EmeraldRoulette · 05/06/2024 15:06

Hello @IAlwaysTellTheTruthEvenWhenILie

hello all!

Only lost half a pound this week
Hopefully more next week.

For my home workout, I stupidly sold my heavier weights set last year as I thought I would never again be able to use them after an injury.

Happily I was wrong - my current routine now needs that set! I cba with gym so going to start on push ups etc. Weight sets are hard to store. I will think about rejoining the gym at some point but not yet. It's not a nice environment, well I don't like it anyway.

I'm trying not to snack at all.

Blacknailer · 06/06/2024 10:58

Right. Still eating too much but yesterday I did yoga, weights and a decent walk so at least I'm feeling more on track!

EmeraldRoulette · 06/06/2024 11:05

Hey, that's really good @Blacknailer

I think we've hit a point where exercise is kind of underrated, but I won't bang on about it.

After I posted yesterday, I realised I was feeling a bit bloated. So I weighed myself this morning and actually I'm a pound and a half down.

I agree it’s overlooked hugely and everyone says they have no time but you could walk or do something at home. I was also this person who didn’t think I had time but I would sit on my phone or watching TV for plenty of time. It’s been the main way I’ve lost and kept it off. I’ve also brought my blood pressure and resting heart rate right down

EmeraldRoulette · 06/06/2024 14:54

Blacknailer · 06/06/2024 13:51

What do you mean it's underrated?

Maybe it's mostly on here, the weight loss board. I've seen a lot of posts saying it doesn't make much difference to exercise. For me, even if it doesn't make much difference weight wise, it puts me in a much better frame of mind to go for healthier behaviour generally....I'm seeing this lifestyle change as a whole holistic thing.

I noticed your comment particularly because yoga, weights and walking is a great combination. That will be me today!
