Anyone have 2-3 stone to lose but DOES NOT use injectables

dreamstates · 26/05/2024 20:33

Anyone want a support thread to drop 2-3 stone but finding the ozempic/wegovy etc threads overwhelming on here. They aren't useful to me and there are so many threads on here about the damn stuff.

A previous thread I saw basically said diet and exercise without the injectables would fail for most. I don't want to touch the stuff for a variety of reasons but mainly the hideous side effects and pile on weight when you stop. Not to mention cost.

I'm looking to do it the "old fashioned" way... 1200-1500 calories on my fitness pal and exercise increasing. No particular time limit.

SW: 12 stone 2
I'm really short too so ideally I need to be 10 stone something max

I'm 40 and deffo in perimenopause

I started off on the injections but have been off for over 6 months and lost over 2stone since then with calorie counting.

Staying active is something that makes a huge difference. It doesn’t have to be major exercise but keep moving, no more long evenings sitting on the sofa. If I am not moving I will go to sleep as that also really helps!

I’ve cut right down on sugar and a lot of very processed foods but I do still eat some carbs and it hasn’t stopped me losing weight. I just eat far less than I used to. One of my meals a day has a carb so rice, potatoes or grains

LadyHester · 27/05/2024 09:12

May I join? I am carrying an extra 3 stone. I’ve also recently been through cancer treatment and my hair is growing back grey and curly (I’m 55). I don’t recognise what I see in the mirror and feel this fucking illness has ruined my life.
I used to love clothes and fashion and dressing up - now I don’t want to leave the house. Tonight I’m going to my wonderful sister’s birthday dinner with family all of whom I love and I shall be wearing a black shroud.

Dontknowwhyidoit · 27/05/2024 09:23

I am in, I am going on holiday tomorrow but when I get back I have 10 weeks until my son's wedding and I need to lose at least a stone as I am the biggest I have ever been

DirtyDensDog · 27/05/2024 09:49

@LadyHester that sounds really tough. I'm sorry that this has happened to you. 🌻

LadyHester · 27/05/2024 10:13

@DirtyDensDog Thank you. It is very very shit but I’m not dead and the prognosis is excellent.

Redsofa · 27/05/2024 10:18

I've lost half a pound short of 4 stone since January 23, using calorie counting with Nutracheck. I started at 18 stone 3.5 and now currently 14 stone 4. I'm 52 nearly 53, going through menopause after breast cancer. This is the only diet I have ever stuck to and seen significant weight loss, previously did weight watchers (pre cancer) lost a bit, gained a bit.
I'm currently on 1700 calories a day. It's not a quick fix and it's taken awhile but I'm in no hurry. I aim for 10k steps a day but quite often don't achieve that, no other exercise.

Hope it’s okay to join. I’m using myfitnespal. SW 13stone 10 CW 13st 7 after a week.
TW 11st.

I’m 53 and feel like I’ve put on a stone each decade and don’t want to heave myself around as I get older.
Cut out sugar in tea, plus biscuits (do a bit of home baking instead). Also going to the gym 2-3 times a week: spinning and weights
However caveat my doctor also prescribed me Orlistat (fat blocker capsules )

I looked at the injectables but they looked really scary. Also didn’t want to lose my appetite completely as I like to cook and eat.

something I found really helpful is the « adult portion plate » I bought mine from matalan but they have them on Amazon. It’s half for salad vegetables, 1/4 for protein, 1/4 for carbs. Then I’m logging everything in MFP. So trying to keep my protein as high as possible (1/3 of my daily intake)

Finally doing 16:8 intermittent fasting so trying not to eat before noon and being done by 8pm

I'm trying similar to you. I weighed myself for the first time in years and discovered my BMI is now outside healthy range. I need to lose at least 3kg to get it back and ideally more like 5kg to get back somewhere to normal. I'm 53 and I think have just let things slide food wise these past years plus bloody menopause
I've just started logging in my fitness pal and trying very hard to balance my macros and doing 16/8 IF.
It's very hard work though! I love my food

ItWillBeDone · 27/05/2024 10:31

I'm in too. Lost count if how many threads like this I've joined and then given up. Currently at 86.9kg. Have set an interim target of 75kg.

Yes, I'm always joining weight loss threads, many tend to die out after a couple of days. I also find that most of the posts in weight loss are all about the weight loss jabs now, so finding one that is relevant is getting harder.

TwoBlueFish · 27/05/2024 10:42

Me! I’ve lost 15kgs (around 2 and a half stone) before with just diet and exercise but unfourtunately put it back on again. I’m trying again and really have more like 25kg (4 stone) to lose.

I’m early 50’s and peri/menopausal. I’m tracking calories with Nutra check app and have my Apple Watch. I’m down 2kg so far and have been back on it for 2 weeks.

Take a look at Gary Taubes' books Why we get fat, or watch any of his talks on youtube. It will give you some insight on why we gain weight, and how to lose it that goes beyond the standard eat less, move more, advice. He also details where that advice comes from, and why it does not work.
Best of luck, and stay away from the injectables!

I’ve always known I was overweight. But seeing my parents, particularly my dad who’s 83 (retired doctor) being careful with their weight management and staying active, has really spurred me on to look after my health whilst relatively young.
Losing weight is part of it, so I don’t put strain on my joints. But also strength training and flexibility. I don’t want to be feeble when I’m old.

May I ask what the supplement is? I'm looking for anything to help curb my cravings but like the OP I have no faith in injectables.

I'd be interested to know too. In case it helps I recently tried some of the Oenobiol slimming pills when in France over summer (they claim to suppress appetite/help burn fat with 'natural' ingredients) - I am not sure whether it was a placebo effect or real but I did feel like it cleared some of the 'food chatter' in my head and because I was taking them I did watch what I ate a bit more so as not to be wasting the money! I think the same sort of thing is available in Holland and Barratt (possibly not Oenobiol but appetite suppressants).

Penguinsa · 27/05/2024 16:17

@LadyHester Sorry about your cancer treatment and its effects. I had that in 2022 and similar issues with going from normal bmi and looking fine to omg did I age 50 years overnight, get run over by a bus and have 118 118 do my hair and want to go into hiding /avoid mirrors and photos so very similar. I have now lost 13kgs of the 14kgs I gained and that has helped a lot especially on face and neck so it is worth the hard work involved. Hair is getting there slowly but I resorted to hats for quite some time and still only just below ears but wavy now rather than curly which is better. Hope you have a nice time out. I have been doing this since October and really want a break for a week or two but so close to normal BMI am trying to resist.

Abitorangelooking · 27/05/2024 16:21

I’ve lost 7kg through diet/ exercise another 9kg to go. Am 44 so I think there is hope.

AllThePotatoesAreSinging · 27/05/2024 16:22

I’ve gone from 93 to 84kg since Feb. Calorie counting. Never considered ozempic etc!

Another 20kg to go! I’m 42, 5ft 2.

EmeraldRoulette · 27/05/2024 16:51

Thank you for the thread OP

I'm never sure about joining them as they are often long lists of what people ate.

I've also noticed that many threads are about injectables and I don't want to go down that road.

I went for a long walk the other day when I was hungry - I was trying to get out before it started to rain, but I was happily 90 mins walking and didn't feel the need to chew my arm off even though I was hungry. I was really hungry for dinner when I got in but that's fine.

I struggle with motivation and boredom eating. Just feel I have become very weak willed and want to work on that. Really I need a routine of set three meals and also to avoid having certain things at home.

It's good to see so many people have lost weight without anything drastic and without injectables.

dreamstates · 27/05/2024 17:25

@EmeraldRoulette I know what you mean by boredom eating. I work at home alone and it's very easy to polish off a few bars of crisps or a bar of choc without even blinking. I basically fell off the wagon in September (my 40th) and then it was Xmas, then I hurt my back, then I got stressed at work... and here we are a stone heavier than I was in September.

I've not had a great day today but tomorrow I'm back to work and am on it!

I find it so hard to give up the treats. Either a glass of wine or some sweet treat.
I'm measuring out a glass now to be 100ml so hopefully by sticking to 1 small glass that will help to reduce a bit.
Every little helps!

Midlifebutnotmiddling · 27/05/2024 19:33

Can I join please- got 2-3 stone to lose but first target is to be overweight not obses. I’m using nutracheck and trying to move more. I know I was when bored or suppressing my feelings- usually anger as I’m menopausal 😃

SushiAndRamen · 27/05/2024 21:00

Yes me! I'm really disturbed by all the weight loss drugs.
Let's do this!

SushiAndRamen · 27/05/2024 21:19

Today I cycled for an hour, swam for 1/2 hr and did a couple of hours of gardening.

I'm doing a free trial of slimpod which is an NLP recording you listen to at night as you fall asleep and hopefully helps reset my relationship with food.

I'm after reducing my calories too but I find the counting soooo boring.

Menora · 27/05/2024 21:24

Counting is a bit boring but you really do get good at it after a while and then it’s no longer constantly counting, I can estimate pretty good now

Bumblebeebum23 · 28/05/2024 12:12

This is so refreshing to hear. I am finding the same thing. Everything on here is about weight loss injections! I have very similar stats to you, Op. 5"3, nearly 40 and 12 stone (should be 10st to be at the top of my bmi so 2 stone still to lose). I started last June at 15st 9lbs, so have lost over 3.5st slowly but surely. However, I have done it without injections or mad diets. I have loosely been following IF and been mindful of what I eat, and it's dropping off bit by bit. Ideally, I would have liked to lose a but quicker, but for the first time ever, I actually feel like I can maintain this way of eating/living.

dreamstates · 28/05/2024 16:01

@Bumblebeebum23 that is a great loss so far. Wow! I reckon I could get to 11 stone with effort but that last stone or so is tricky.

it sucks being short. I’d look awesome if I was 5ft 9 or so 🤣 but I’m literally so dumpy. Big boobs, mum tum and my worst bit, my legs!

ive woken today and I’ve started fast 800 diet. Im journaling everything that I eat and drink. Im probably ending up doing a more relaxed version of it. But it has principles i like… writing it down, intermittent fasting, nice recipes without processed food, limited snacking. Because I’m short and sit at desk all day, my calorie needs are quite small. As much as that annoys me, sadly it is true and I only seem to drop weight if I do 1200 calories max.

so far so good. Im not overly hungry…yet
