Anyone have 2-3 stone to lose but DOES NOT use injectables

Anyone want a support thread to drop 2-3 stone but finding the ozempic/wegovy etc threads overwhelming on here. They aren't useful to me and there are so many threads on here about the damn stuff.

A previous thread I saw basically said diet and exercise without the injectables would fail for most. I don't want to touch the stuff for a variety of reasons but mainly the hideous side effects and pile on weight when you stop. Not to mention cost.

I'm looking to do it the "old fashioned" way... 1200-1500 calories on my fitness pal and exercise increasing. No particular time limit.

SW: 12 stone 2
I'm really short too so ideally I need to be 10 stone something max

I'm 40 and deffo in perimenopause

After my first gain of the year at Monday’s weigh in following weeks of being on a plateau, the scales are starting to go in the right direction again this week. Early days, but I think I may be back in the zone. 🤞

OneDayIWillLearn · 12/07/2024 18:39

@artant well done!

OneDayIWillLearn · 12/07/2024 18:48

@babba2014 good thanks! I’m coming up to 4 weeks since starting WW and 6 weeks since starting to try and eat healthier and I’ve lost 9lbs in that time so I’m really chuffed. The first two weeks I didn’t lose anything, basically because I wasn’t tracking and was giving myself the weekends ‘off’ and as they coincided with parties, then massively overdid it!

FWIW I would try not to feel too annoyed with yourself - that kind of negativity towards yourself is not a good place from which to change your habits and bring about change. I did the mind map on what your body has done for you and what you like about it (even as it is) this week from The Last Diet….its hard to start thinking nice things about your body and behaviour when you’re so used to just berating yourself but honestly it’s so empowering! A shift to feeling like you deserve love and kindness, and that changing your eating habits is in fact all about treating your body and yourself with the respect you deserve makes every easier and more joyful.

sorry that probably sounds a bit ‘woo’!!

OneDayIWillLearn · 12/07/2024 18:55

@Bookmark1111 yes totally know that urge to just say ‘sod it’! And yes I agree it generally doesn’t work for me if I go too OTT at the weekend or think of it as ‘time off’. But I do find it helpful for sticking to the plan long term to be able to be a bit more relaxed at the weekend, and at the moment we have loads of parties and trips away so I like to have a bit of flexibility. I am of the ‘life’s too short’ way of thinking! Also I’m sure I’ve read it’s better to have a bit of variety in how many calories you have each day across the week as if you always have low calories then your body just adjusts its base metabolism down. Haha that’s what I tell myself anyway 😂

No you are totally right and I need to get a copy of that book.

Well done on such a good achievement! I was the same. I started exercising and then went all on sugar when I was away so I would have seen better changes by now but it is what it is and I'm not going back to that.

The point about loving ourselves is so true. It is time to honour this body and feed it well. When we get to the finish line, it will be good to read back on these posts too and seeing your progress is so encouraging, so lets keep on going!
Although the holidays are coming up, there are no major events where I need to touch sugar anyway so this is the best time to get fit and healthy and try to keep lifelong habits.

EmeraldRoulette · 12/07/2024 20:12

I have been struggling but quiet time is so helpful. Another 3lb off. Was tempted by injection but decided not.

I’m switching to gentler exercise though. Too easy to exercise into hunger!

OneDayIWillLearn · 12/07/2024 20:15

@EmeraldRoulette well done! I was wondering how you were getting on. That sounds really positive 😊

EmeraldRoulette · 12/07/2024 20:38

@OneDayIWillLearn I read a thread about what thin people eat
it’s not a lifestyle I can imagine

but I figured I can get the worst of it off but I’ll never be thin again and actually the odd treat is more important to me. I honestly don’t know how some people manage but clearly we’re all made differently.

Atlantic252 · 13/07/2024 15:44

Wow you are all doing so well. @artant and @EmeraldRoulette that sound like such good progress - well done!

@OneDayIWillLearn 9lbs is brilliant - can you really see and feel it now?

@babba2014 you do sound like you are giving yourself a hard time. What's that saying about the second best time to plant a tree is now? Please feel proud that you are trying and even being mindful of what we eat is a huge step for any of us that struggle with food.

I am still doing and feeling good but the first week is always easy. I do go off track a bit on weekends but I'm trying to go 'less' off track today. I also did a load of (unusual for me) physical work this morning so I'm hoping that will give me some leeway.

artant · 13/07/2024 17:44

This is so, so true. It’s so easy to drift off track without noticing. Just paying attention to what we eat is a start towards making better decisions.

EmeraldRoulette · 13/07/2024 18:25

Re paying attention, I have started to write down what I eat. it’s annoying and incredibly boring but I couldn’t see a way around it.

I forgot to say, I have found Huel very helpful, I mentioned that in a previous post, that I was thinking of trying it.

I find it hard to reach a decent level of protein otherwise and sick to death of eating eggs. It’s expensive though. But it is helpful on the days I don’t want the faff of getting the blender out. And I actually think it’s easier to digest than the powder I was using.

OneDayIWillLearn · 13/07/2024 21:00

@EmeraldRoulette I think it has to feel easy doesn’t it. I read Gin Steven’s book - her fasting approach wasn’t for me but her line that you need to ‘tweak it until it’s easy’ really stuck with me. A diet which is good rather than perfect is a million times more preferable if it is easy enough that you will actually stick with it long term!

babba2014 · 13/07/2024 21:16

Today I did 2 20 minute workouts which is an achievement lol. It's so hard to find time for yourself with responsibilities.
I've not weighed myself either and I will stick to one day a week only, but mostly just seeing how I fit into some clothes.
I'm just happy to be active again, walking etc whereas before I was always at a desk.
We can do this. Let's get to our goal without inejctabbles.

Food wise, I've stuck to no sugar, no fried food. I am going to eat as I did before in terms of normal food, just smaller portion sizes.

The no sugar isn't punishment but it is like a drug and I feel addicted so this hopefully will just clean out my body at least. Will try something when I reach my first big goal.

Well done to everyone still on track.

SorchaB · 14/07/2024 04:59

Need motivation and advice to shift at least 3 stone , in my 50s. How do I calculate what daily calorie intake to lose weight, as in calories deficit
thanks 🙏

Nosummerontheagenda · 14/07/2024 06:43

I’m in. I need to lose four stone. I start off well, lose a bit and then get side tracked. How can I stick to it this time? Thinking of joining weight watchers. Anyone got any feedback on WW?

@Atlantic252 yes it’s definitely starting to be enough to feel the difference. Clothes which fit better is the main one. I saw my mum yesterday and she said ‘oh you’re looking good!’ And I could tell she was trying to put her finger on what had changed (like had I had a haircut or something) so I was quite chuffed about that. I haven’t told many people I’m trying to lose weight.

OneDayIWillLearn · 14/07/2024 09:03

Can I ask what people’s strategies are around this time of year?? We seem to have parties every weekend and holidays coming up (a week end of July and another end of August….plus some other weekends and nights away!), a two day conference with a dinner in August.

I’ll have had 6 weeks really ‘on plan’ when the holidays start in earnest in two weeks and don’t want to then undo all the good work over the following 6 weeks and find myself back to square 1. BUT I also don’t want to ruin the summer but getting unrealistically stressed about food - a week travelling around France and trying to stick to a diet for example probably isn’t going to much fun!

@EmeraldRoulette by the way which thread was it about things thin people eat??kept wondering what was said on it today (clearly should have been thinking about more important things 😂)

So happy I have found this thread... I started in April at 19stone 2 now I'm 16st 10lbs through calorie deficit and walking.

I've brought a walking pad so I can continue walking during school holidays ( my child is Sen and we struggle to get out)

Mummytodo · 15/07/2024 08:33

@Nosummerontheagenda thank you. It's a treadmill but just for walking. You can get them without handles so they can go under a desk if working from home too

I've seen people mention these walking pads under their desks before and have always wondered if that means you sit there walking your feet on them for exercise? Or is it just somewhere to store them?!

Mummytodo · 15/07/2024 11:48

@Bookmark1111 some people walk on it and work at the same time (standing) you can't really sit over it and walk... I use it as a treadmill paid abit extra so I could have one with a handle as I'm sure I'd fall off without but also so I can store standing up.

I can honestly say it is one of the best things I have ever brought. Being so heavy I wanted to do something unlikely to cause me injury and also something I would stick to. I get up early daily and do 30 mins on it but during the holidays I'm aiming to do 45 mins to an hour to make up for me not doing school run
