@braveandwellbehaved thanks for the sugar tip . Maybe I should go cold turkey if it breaks the habit. I realise when I cut back on alcohol how much of it was habit rather than anything else, but like an idiot, I've replaced that habit with chocolate.
I didn't do too badly yesterday, although did get derailed by a home made scone, but at least I only had one.
Onwards and upwards for the rest of the week

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/05/2024 14:27

@braveandwellbehaved I started with her Iron series on YouTube. It’s a good programme. I’d previously been doing a pt course online, 2 sessions a week. I don’t use the weights she does, I think if you’re more experienced you could use as heavy as her. I must admit after 5 weeks of the iron series I’m getting a tiny bit bored of RDL variations and lunges, but I’m going to stick with it for the final 5 sessions then move onto another programme of hers.

We have similar starting stats and I would love to be 10.2 in a month! What do you think changed to make it click? I was doing well and then have just been stuck at 10.11 for months now

First of all love your username (I'm assuming it's a Barbie reference?)!
I know that feeling of being stuck and just fluctuating up and down. So I'll try to tell you in as much detail as possible what helped this month!

First thing I did was cut sugar for three days - I don't know if you eat a lot of it but I do. I just had protein and fruit and veg essentially. When I had a craving I would ask myself - why is that. Am I hungry or am I using sugar as an emotional/other kind of crutch and then thinking about that just made the cravings...slip away! I decided kind of not to go back to eating sugar most days (which I was having) after the first three, but not as strict (will eat bread etc). At the same time I started drinking decaf coffee/tea after my first cup of the day, and I drink quite a few cups of that even in the eve!

The final thing I've been doing is at dinner, instead of eating a heaped plate of food that I've made (e.g. Bolognese) I will have 1/4 of the plate be the meal and the rest be either steamed veg or salad. I go to bed really full. I've been going to the gym maybe 2 times a week, just doing weights (I do goblet squats, arm rows, deadlifts and pushups 4 sets of 10 each).

That's it! The weight is coming off fast! One thing I'd say is the way I've done it is the way that makes it super sustainable to me. I cannot maintain calorie counting, I'm too busy and I find it stressful. Basically just ensuring that I'm eating less than I was, was the start. I would eat normal days food, minus the sugar. Then normal days food, but in evening less meal, more greens. that's it.
After the first couple pounds, it really clicked. Oh an I weigh myself everyday to observe the general trend instead of weighing every week and being blindsided by a fluctuation and losing motivation. I also accepted that it would be slow going (so it's been faster than I expected!). But yeah and generally treating myself with kindness (in my own head I mean, just being positive about stuff has really helped).

After 12 months + of stagnating around 10 st 7-12 I cannot tell you how much better I feel and I wish I'd started sooner.

Hope this helps at all, any questions welcome!

braveandwellbehaved · 29/05/2024 12:19

Weigh in today 10 st on the dot. Expecting fluctuations this week as due soon though. it's hard to let myself believe how much weight I've lost. I also feel so much better, more optimistic and less miserable in general. I can see the effect of the loss in the mirror.

Only downside Have been getting a bit of food anxiety (stressing over what I've eaten) and I HATE that. Anyone else? Do you know what to do about it? I don't want this to take over my life!

@thenewaveragebear1983 Oh great thank you! I'll check it out. I've been doing the same workout for 6 months and I'm so bored - but it does help to ' know what I'm doing' every time I go to the gym I just get at it with a podcast on...

Loveriver · 29/05/2024 12:39

Well done everyone. I went to soft play yesterday. Managed to have a wrap without chips and didn't eat the ice cream! I'm trying to be strong.

That's all good advice !! I find calorie counting too obsessive too!

I've been slightly derailed today by working at home, which I find hard as there is always food available. Not horrendous, but have had an unnecessary scone! Back in the office tomorrow though

Loveriver · 29/05/2024 18:13

Down from 68.7 to 67.4kg

OiGetOff · 29/05/2024 18:56

Darn it, I forgot to weigh in this morning. I’ll do it tomorrow.

Been a good day so far though. No breakfast (never have it). Lettuce wrap with prawns, tomato, cucumber & low cal salad dressing for lunch - a genuine favourite of mine which I’d eat even if not trying to shift a bit of timber. Dinner should be salmon & veggie stir fry, but it’s the daughter’s turn to cook & she’s making “can’t be arsed” noises.

Luckily I don’t have a sweet tooth at all, so not tempted there. I do however have a cheese tooth (eugh!) and a wine tooth! And I do like a glass whilst watching Inside No 9, so I may derail.

Keep on keeping on everyone!

braveandwellbehaved · 30/05/2024 09:01

10st 1 - was expecting a fluctuation and was RAVENOUS yesterday, couldn't eat enough tbh! Wonder if the restriction is catching up to me a bit or if it's the PMS - maybe both. I was also exhausted and didn't feel like workout out or doing any housework or anything. I ended up just eating when I felt like it... which ended up being a lot of extra - but I don't feel guilty or anything - most important thing is to maintain consistency through the next week until my period is over.

Anyone else thoroughly SICK of this crap weather? It's really bringing me down! Or maybe it's the PMS talking!

@OiGetOff I tend to have a glass of wine here and there and hasn't hurt my weight loss at all - but I do make sure I drink lots of water and don't let myself have tipsy snacks ha!

@Loveriver Well done on your loss woop!

Hugosmaid · 30/05/2024 09:04

1400 cals a day.

And then do weights. It will come off youve still got time.

large kettle bell, 2 X Dumbells and loads of free you tube vids

Do this at least 5 times a week.

Cardio just does not cut it for me anymore

45

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/05/2024 09:52

After being away for 5 days I weighed in this morning and I’m up 5.5lbs 🤦‍♀️ I know it’s mostly water/wine weight but still. So anyway- starting weight 155.2lbs. I’d love to be 143 by the time I go away but that’s possibly unrealistic. I need a bit of a whoosh to get this bloat off and then I can see what I’m working with!

Loveriver · 30/05/2024 10:26

Let's keep going. I do 3 weight/ Kettlebell type classes a week! Feel my 3 pounds maybe water weight but I'm taking it !

OP posts:
WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 30/05/2024 10:37

I'm on half term and promised myself I'd go to gym classes but I haven't made it to a single one yet! Just have full on CBAs about it!

Careerdecisions · 30/05/2024 10:47

I’d like to join too please, none of my clothes fit and I refuse to buy more to accommodate this flab!

I’d like to lose a stone. I’m back to running three times a week on the couch to 5k and will keep that going but add some weights in too. I get really bored with weights so any tips on that would be appreciated.

I’ll put my target date as September in time for my 46th birthday.

wineandsunshine · 30/05/2024 15:40

I am struggling with the running 😞 think I overdid it and started going daily which has caused awful lower back pain/tummy pain.

Going to have to rest for a week or so now!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/05/2024 21:21

i ended up over my calories today, on 1530, 55g carbs, 147g protein. I was hungry, it was my first day low carb and i really felt the sugar crash at mid afternoon. I did a run and walked the dog, got 17k steps.

tomorrow I’m going to run again first thing, plus I’d like to get a w/out in. Today I ended up having extra calories in little snacks, like cheese and olives and other things. It bumped my calories right out of fast800 territory although i am still within my normal allowance. Tomorrow I will try harder to not have the snacky bits.

Beautifulsunflowers · 30/05/2024 22:36

Ah damn half term!! Took my niece out today and we went out for lunch and then tea and cake although I did then not have any dinner so hopefully the calories evened out but also didn’t manage any real exercise which makes me down on my step count - must try harder tomorrow!

OiGetOff · 31/05/2024 10:04

Finally weighed this morning for first time in many many months - 9st 9.

I know that doesn’t sound too bad, but it’s all relative innit. Until a couple of years ago, I was never more than 8 and a half stone I’d say. And that’s what all my favourite clothes fit.

I also used to be so active, running in particular. For fun. But I’ve done nothing more active than climbing the stairs in about 6 months (despite having a stupidly expensive gym membership).

I’ve a renewed enthusiasm with upcoming holiday in July, so hopefully I’m going to get me back now.

Loveriver · 31/05/2024 11:19

I'm really ill with sore throat and coughing. I ate a cornetto last night but that's the only crap I've eaten all week really.

OP posts:
OiGetOff · 31/05/2024 13:07

Get well soon @Loveriver. Ice cream on a sore throat is medicinal, I’d say.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 31/05/2024 18:23

Even though I was over my calories yesterday, I was 2lbs lighter this morning which is all my water bloat whooshing away! Today I have shovelled 10 tonnes of gravel with dh, we worked very hard for at least 5 hours, I have no idea the calorie burn for that but I think it’s bought me a glass of wine with my dinner. I’ve not eaten much, I had egg, avocado and cheese for brunch and tonight will have chicken breast and salad. I had 125g Greek yoghurt mid afternoon.

tomorrow we have another 10T to shovel!

OiGetOff · 01/06/2024 10:55

No change in weight for me this morning. I ate healthily yesterday but ate quite a lot - made a big veg soup which I was intending to eat over a few days, but kept going back for another bowlful.

Also didn’t move much, so I’m planning an active day. Maybe.

Loveriver · 01/06/2024 11:13

I've been unwell so no gym but haven't eaten much. I really want to slim my thighs down. Anyone got any tips?

OP posts:
wineandsunshine · 03/06/2024 06:48

Weigh in this morning - 73.1kg

I've put on 1.2kg over half term and knew that would happen as I've been eating what I like. Back to teaching and healthy eating this morning....!
