Determined to lose 1.5 stone by July!

Enough is enough..I need to lose 1.5 stone and to keep it off! My goal is to look and feel better, and to be fitter too.

So I’m only 5ft 2 and have been 9 stone for most of my adult life but after constant takeaways, home baking, lack of sleep and inactivity during lockdown, my weight crept up close to 13 stone / 83kg by the summer of 2021 and my body fat percentage was close to 40% which put me in the obese category.

I managed to lose a fair bit of weight using various methods (SW, 1:1, running,
walking, calorie counting, IF) and I was down to 11 stone /70Kg by late 2023. But over the last year it’s been hovering around 11 stone with not much change which has been frustrating.

The past month or so my weight’s actually been creeping up, the latest is I’ve just came back from a 2 week holiday and weighed myself - I’m 11 stone 8!

This is the heaviest I’ve been in over a year I think and I could see it in my holiday pics :/

I want to nip this in the bud by actively starting to get my weight down
towards 10 stone instead of continuing to head back in the direction to 13 stone.

I’m going to post at least every Monday setting out my intentions for diet and exercise and posting my weight/measurements update. Anyone in?

Will also be a good space to share fitness videos and simple healthy recipes!

That's probably why you have a headache then.

JacketPotatoFoodOfTheGods · 14/05/2024 11:23

I'm in!
Need to up my water intake & exercise.
Eat more protein less calories.
I have 3 st to lose 🙈

Cherryblossom6754 · 14/05/2024 11:47

First weigh-in and I've lost 2lbs. I'd hoped for a bit more on the first week but if I'm honest I went off track at the weekend!

I'm back on it and yesterday was pretty good eating wise.
Busy today so have scheduled in 2 15min home workouts to keep moving throughout the day and a walk in the evening.

Aiming for 2lbs next week and to keep going at at least that rate.

Currently on 3rd week of starter dose of Mounjaro . I previously did a month on wegovy as a trial as my daughter had a months pen left over as she went on to the next dose up which she suggested I try . I’d already lost a stone on my own and continued to lose 9lb over the 4 weeks with the Wegovy pen daughter gave me . As it worked well and I heard MJ was better I ordered a months worth of the starter dose (2.5) In hindsight I would have been better off going to the next dose up (5) as my appetite is creeping back . I’ve still got the rest of this week and another weeks to go . I’m actually going away on holiday for 10 days the day I start my next order .
So I’ve got a few questions ?..
Do I inject the day I go? , I’m going to order the next strength.
I'm a bit worried about taking the pen and needle with me abroad. Do I keep it in my hand luggage or in my suitcase with an ice pack ?
I could always just not take it and try and last the 10 days on holiday on one dose and just start again when I get back? Would this be a good idea? My situation is I’m 60 , need to lose weight for a knee replacement and just to look and feel better . I’m 5ft 5 and a half , started off 16st 10 , currently hovering around 15 stone. .

Hi there's lots of weight loss drug/injection threads in the weight loss chats. Maybe you'd be better posting this in there?

Yes, agreed.

Weight loss injections seem to be having a moment right now and there’s arguments for & against which is fine, but I’d rather keep this thread focussed on more natural /non-drug assisted weight loss.

Day 2 of fast 800. I’m soooo hungry. Not sure if I can keep this up for the next few weeks - will need to see some pretty impressive losses, pretty soon! On the plus side, I am eating a lot more veg. Still need to up the water intake.

Pizza mushrooms for lunch. Not that tasty.
Veg, spinach and parmesan omelette for tea. Ok ish
No wine 🙁

Mynewnameis · 14/05/2024 19:05

Is fast 800 literally 800 calories a day? I think I'd pass out

There are two parts to it. The first week (or upto 12 weeks, depending how much you have to lose) is 800 cals a day. It then goes to 2 x 800 days per week and eating a Mediterranean diet for the other 5 days. It’s only for the short term, to kick start your weight loss. If you believe Michael Mosley (or the daily fail), you can 1 stone in 3 weeks - we shall see 😉

Mynewnameis · 14/05/2024 20:00

@ItsTapasTime thanks for the details. As I get nearer to my summer holiday I might be tempted. My gentle approach is not losing me much - although I think clothes are looser.

Autumnintowinter · 14/05/2024 20:11

Evening all.

Been a good start to the week food wise. Really enjoying lots of different salad variations. My current favourite is big chunks of spicy butternut squash, beetroot and lentils.
Dinner was salt and chilli tofu with a huge plate of veggies and some edamame beans. Fruit for snacks and some crisps.

Got a massive vegan feta and beetroot salad prepped for work tomorrow. Fruit and Alpro yogurt for snacks and probably stir fry with noodles for tea. Back at the gym tomorrow too:

Feeling motivated and a lot more energised by eating better ( and laying off the beer seems to be helping)! Trying to do at least 10000 steps a day too.

let’s hope can keep it going. Good luck everyone - keep going!

icecreamisforwintertoo · 14/05/2024 20:13

Yes please, bit late to the game but I’d like to join. I still haven’t lost my lockdown stone and keep losing and regaining the same few pounds. I can’t seem to gain momentum. Every time I go away or even on a night / meal out it seems to go to pot, and I don’t think stress has helped.
I want to lose a stone by July also (by school holidays - we’re off to a festival the following weekend). I am 5’4 and currently 10.7

i will do this by counting calories on myfitness pal and doing daily exercise (currently do parkrun, yoga and occasional weights at home but just recovering from illness so not done much the last fortnight). I also really want to maintain this during weekends and keep my focus - we are going camping at half term and I want to keep momentum and don’t want to come back having put any weight back on!!

goingdownfighting · 14/05/2024 20:41

@tapastime hang in there.

I'm doing 16:8 on 1300 kcal and am toying with gradually going down to 800. I'm too much of a wimp to start straight away. One thing I've learnt is that complex carbs just before your fast ends keep you falling off a cliff hunger wise a little later. Also keep your fibre up.

jobessieandme · 15/05/2024 07:51

Finally seeing a little bit of movement on the scales this morning but oooof it's slow progress! I'm only a pound down since 5th May, but 4lbs down overall in 2.5 weeks so not too bad.

Food plans today are:
B smoothie with protein powder and chia seeds, coffee with skimmed milk
L asparagus and poached eggs
D salmon and mixed green veg

Lots of water, lots of herbal tea.

Speaking of which, my new secret weapon is Teapigs licorice and mint tea. It's absolutely delicious and feels like a real treat mid afternoon when normally I'd be reaching for the hobnobs.

Hope you all have a wonderful slenderful day!

Getfits · 15/05/2024 11:41

My appetite seems to have reduced this week so I’m trying to make the most of it and eat very low calorie, so as to compensate for when my period starts and I inevitably eat more.

Anyone got any tips for managing period cravings and not undoing all your hard work? 😐

I’ve heard matcha reduces appetite so I’m planning to get some and make a matcha & banana coffee smoothie every day on my period. Also will have plenty of potato, salmon, low fat beef mince and tuna in the house.

Hi All,

I've been guilty of having a few sugary snacks at work. I really need to have more willpower!

Weighed in today.

-2lbs
Down to 11st 2.6

I was on my period this last week so I think that's an ok loss. Still need to work on drinking more water!

Well done to everyone eating healthily and trying different things. I've been good and getting out for walks.

Mynewnameis · 15/05/2024 18:15

I think I'm realising a few things as the scales don't move. 1 my portions are too big. 2. Too many carbs 3. I need to go lower on calories.

I've managed a 1000 decifit three days straight. If the scales don't move tomorrow I'll be seriously peeed.

jobessieandme · 16/05/2024 06:55

@Getfits period cravings are so difficult. Salty/sweet popcorn is good. And you can melt a bit of chocolate and mix with milk then dip fruit into it so you're getting the chocolate taste with just a small amount.

I've had good movement on the scales today so am now 5.5lbs down from my start on the 28th April. Still 16lbs to go but I'm a quarter of the way there!

Planned food today....
B beans on toast
L omelette and salad
D chicken stir fry

And a run later.

I love popcorn and haven’t had it for a while so that’s a good idea…and I’ll get some dark chocolate too…as I’m not likely to binge on dark chocolate.

congrats on your weight loss 🎉

today I’ll be eating :

B: Greek yoghurt and dry roasted oats with honey
L: instant noodles!
D: Salmon, small amount of rice and heaps of vegetables
Snack: frozen banana & oat milk smoothie

I moved from the living room/kitchen to my bedroom earlier than usual last night, I find it helps me to stop snacking.

How are you getting on with your soup maker @Getfits ?

I've stuck to my calories today. My run did not go to plan though as it was absolutely tipping down with rain and I ended up having to walk lots as it was so slippery! I'll try again at the weekend.

My jeans are definitely feeling slightly looser which is very motivating.

Getfits · 16/05/2024 21:31

@jobessieandme Funny you should ask that , after days of procrastination I finally used it tonight!

Chopped up potato, sweet pepper, garlic, onion and veg stock with a splash of oat milk and pressed “smooth” mode - it made a lovely creamy soup in 20 minutes. I’ll definitely be using it regularly from now on.

Yes, it was pissing it down where I am as well, you done better than me to even go for a walk in that weather! And good decision not to run because obviously if you slipped you could be out of action for a while, so it’s much better to just miss one run.

My jeans are definitely feeling slightly looser which is very motivating.

Mine too -yes, SUCH a good feeling! I thought I was imagining it but I measured my waist and I’ve lost an inch.

I'm having a serious wobble. After last weekend's four days which were all over the place, I got back on it on Monday. However, we are having major work done to our house replacing the heating system and moving everything, meaning it's chaos with stuff everywhere and we had a night with no water. I've slept really badly - awake between 5 and 5.30 every day and I've had a massive migraine attack. Last night we shared a bottle of wine and had a pudding. On my own accountability thread someone has suggested my calorie cut isn't enough to lose the weight I want in the time available. Waaah! 😭

Mynewnameis · 17/05/2024 08:03

@MotherOfGodWeeFella sorry to hear of the building stress. Could you plan your meals for today and try and give yourself a feel better day before weekend?

Mynewnameis · 17/05/2024 08:05

I have to tell some people that understand.
Jumped on the scales after my strict days and saw a 10. Almost cried then realised it was 9.10 (.9). Almost cried with happiness that it was me without glasses seeing a 10 in the wrong place.
2lbs off this week.

goingdownfighting · 17/05/2024 08:21

@MotherOfGodWeeFella I had a similar day yesterday. Had workmen in the house, had to empty the room of doom, chaired a contentious meeting that spanned right over the end of my fasting period so didn't have time for a evening meal, so came home and scoffed a large bag of crisps.

However today is a new day. I'm fasting until later to salvage the fast, and will eat clean today.

Life happens, we are all human. You are still losing weight. Hopefully today will be better.
