Determined to lose 1.5 stone by July!

Enough is enough..I need to lose 1.5 stone and to keep it off! My goal is to look and feel better, and to be fitter too.

So I’m only 5ft 2 and have been 9 stone for most of my adult life but after constant takeaways, home baking, lack of sleep and inactivity during lockdown, my weight crept up close to 13 stone / 83kg by the summer of 2021 and my body fat percentage was close to 40% which put me in the obese category.

I managed to lose a fair bit of weight using various methods (SW, 1:1, running,
walking, calorie counting, IF) and I was down to 11 stone /70Kg by late 2023. But over the last year it’s been hovering around 11 stone with not much change which has been frustrating.

The past month or so my weight’s actually been creeping up, the latest is I’ve just came back from a 2 week holiday and weighed myself - I’m 11 stone 8!

This is the heaviest I’ve been in over a year I think and I could see it in my holiday pics :/

I want to nip this in the bud by actively starting to get my weight down
towards 10 stone instead of continuing to head back in the direction to 13 stone.

I’m going to post at least every Monday setting out my intentions for diet and exercise and posting my weight/measurements update. Anyone in?

Will also be a good space to share fitness videos and simple healthy recipes!

I’m on anti depressants and anti psychotics since June this year which means I’ve gained 2.5 stone. Now almost 13.5 stone.

Had spring vegetable soup, rye Ryvita with pro activ spread and cucumber crudutes fif lunch plus porridge with skimmed milk and blueberries for breakfast today.

Did overindulge over past few days but had walks with that too. Not very active though.

@netcam yes I've gone from a size 10-12 to an 6 to 8. Size 10 still fits but is baggy. Bra size has decreased. I'm still large busted but gone from 34" to 30/32" band( I need to get properly measured).

Maybe it's because it's big coat weather but also when I was 9st 5lbs I guess I didn't look massive but I'm not sure why its not more obvious.

My personal trainer has a weighing scales that measures body fat. I believe they are not very accurate but I'm going to buy one and focus on getting the percentage down.

My aim for 2025 is to start seeing abs and muscle definition. I know this means I'll weigh more but I need a new challenge.

Netcam · 26/12/2024 13:51

@TakingTheHorseToFrance, well done! I've gone from 10-12 to 8-10, definitely not 6. The new trousers I have bought are mainly 8, a few 10, but I'd have been a 12 in those before. I tend to wear quite stretchy tops and jumpers and they still fit.

Isn't that so odd we sound similar size, you being a good few lbs lighter. I'm basing the size 6 based on 2 m&s cord flares I bought that are size 8 and are swimming on me and I should have got the size 6. Maybe it's just vanity sizing.

Too embarrassed to post my weight but will follow in the hope that it will give me more willpower…

Well I was 11 stone back in June. Sort of ok with that but tried to lose weight. Then admitted to 2 psychiatric wards for about 6 weeks over summer and meds prescribed whilst there or when out made me put on weight. I need more than just will power!

Shops vary so much and styles within shops. I have several pairs of trousers from Poetry, one size 8 which is a good fit, another style in a size 8 which is enormous and I should have got in a 6 and a third style in a size 10 which fits fine but with space to tuck in a jumper.

@Netcam and @TakingTheHorseToFrance It's so good to hear from both of you and hear your updates. You've both done so well since we first 'met' on this thread.

I'm still stuck at 8st4ish (fluctuates by a couple of pounds). I'm not really sure why I can't shift these few pounds. I really do know that I will feel and look better around or just under 8st but I'm just so stuck. I clearly need to make some more changes, but I'm not sure what!

I find both of you so inspiring, so do please keep popping on here to update.

Cherryblossom81 · 31/12/2024 12:35

Also @Netcam and @TakingTheHorseToFrance - can you ponpoint any particular things that have contributed to your success? Or do you think there is anything unique to us being shorter?

Did you both start from a starting point similar to me (already at a healthy weight but still wanting to lose a few pounds)?

Sorry for all the questions. You are the only people I 'talk' to about this as I don't talk about it in real life and not sure I'd be welcome on other weight loss threads (hard to explain to people that it's ok to want to lose a few pounds when starting from 8st4)!

I had been 9 stone for a few years, had previously been about 8 1/2 stone for most of my adult life. It was menopause that did it. Then it started creeping up and got to 9 1/2 stone and I decided I needed to do something.

I managed to get back to 9 stone quite easily just cutting out cake and biscuits!

But losing more than that required fairly drastic diet changes. I didn't ever imagine I would reach 7 st 10, it just happened. Actually today I was 7 st 9.

I decided to cut out pretty much all UPF, sweet stuff, unrefined carbs saturated fat and alcohol. I might have a tiny amount of those very occasionally but not regularly.

I eat a decent breakfast, a light salad lunch, a small afternoon snack and a light dinner. My meals are small and I eat loads of vegetables, some protein and fairly low carb. My diet is very high in vegetables. I also eat a lot of nuts of different types which I think fill me up and I don't seem to pile on the weight with them.

I now get an order from Suma wholefoods about every 2 months and order 1kg bags of organic hazelnuts, Brazil nuts, almonds, pumpkin seeds, pecans and walnuts and manage to eat most of those myself in that time, although DH and DS have a few sometimes too. I also order lots of other store cupboard basics like porridge, brown rice, tinned tomatoes, pulses etc and cleaning products to make up the £400 minimum order amount, but it's worth it, the nuts are really high quality and much cheaper to buy in bulk.

Cherryblossom81 · 31/12/2024 15:41

Thanks, @Netcam I'm wondering if I need some more 'drastic changes'. I really think my diet is pretty good, but clearly there must be room for improvement as that's the only explanation for me being stuck.

How many calories would you say you eat per day/ or averaged out over the week? It's so hard to know for sure what a realistic amount is when we are shorter, with not much to lose!

I'm really motivated to try to crack these few pounds at the start of the new year!

I've no idea how many calories I eat per day / week as I've never counted them.

I just decided one day I was going to eat differently. And over the course of about a year I went from 9 1/2 stone to 7 stone 10.

For breakfast I usually have kefir or porridge made with skimmed milk with a handful of nuts, or a boiled egg and a piece of toast. I also have one piece of fruit and a decaf skimmed milk latte. I get through 1 litre of low fat kefir a week, which is probably 4 or 5 breakfasts. My bowl of porridge is quite small, but topped up with nuts and fruit.

For lunch I usually make a big salad with cucumber, tomato, 1/2 avocado, sauerkraut, 1 piece fruit and some nuts/seeds or a little low fat cheese or occasionally sardines or smoked mackerel. Occasionally I might have one oatcake or a piece of sourdough toast with it. I might add some other veg, but I could easily eat 3/4 of a cucumber and DH might have the other 1/4.

For an afternoon snack with a cup of tea I have a handful of nuts and a square or two of dark chocolate and sometimes 1 medjool date.

For dinner I have a protein dish like baked salmon, bean stew, lean beef chilli or prawn curry with a pile of veg, very rarely any carbs, or a really tiny portion if I feel like it. My dinner is quite small and I don't eat anything else after that.

I find sticking to that routine of meals helps and I really don't feel hungry or crave food.

I think the high quantities of vegetables has really helped. Even though DS20 is at university and DS17 stays with his dad almost half the time, we get 3 organic veg boxes a week even when DS20 is away in term time. DH eats carbs and biscuits and cake and the DS have them too, but I just eat mainly vegetables with a bit of other stuff. I also limit myself to 2 pieces of fruit a day to minimise sugar intake.

Great tips @netcam i find your loss so inspiring and this thread really keeps me motivitated. I have slipped this week and am now at 8st 3lbs. @Cherryblossom81 My biggest change is cutting out chocolate and biscuits and relacing with nuts! Similar to netcam. I have lots of pecan nuts and walnuts throughtout the day. I have nutswith a tiny bit of dark chocolate and banana as my treat with a cuppa. I add nuts to my porridge in the morning or I will have a slice of mccambridge bread with peanut butter.
