Determined to lose 1.5 stone by July!

Getfits · 04/05/2024 18:23

Enough is enough..I need to lose 1.5 stone and to keep it off! My goal is to look and feel better, and to be fitter too.

So I’m only 5ft 2 and have been 9 stone for most of my adult life but after constant takeaways, home baking, lack of sleep and inactivity during lockdown, my weight crept up close to 13 stone / 83kg by the summer of 2021 and my body fat percentage was close to 40% which put me in the obese category.

I managed to lose a fair bit of weight using various methods (SW, 1:1, running,
walking, calorie counting, IF) and I was down to 11 stone /70Kg by late 2023. But over the last year it’s been hovering around 11 stone with not much change which has been frustrating.

The past month or so my weight’s actually been creeping up, the latest is I’ve just came back from a 2 week holiday and weighed myself - I’m 11 stone 8!

This is the heaviest I’ve been in over a year I think and I could see it in my holiday pics :/

I want to nip this in the bud by actively starting to get my weight down
towards 10 stone instead of continuing to head back in the direction to 13 stone.

I’m going to post at least every Monday setting out my intentions for diet and exercise and posting my weight/measurements update. Anyone in?

Will also be a good space to share fitness videos and simple healthy recipes!

I'll join.
I'm 5 ft 8 and 13st 3. I'd like to lose a stone at least by the end of June. I'm on holiday then.
Gets harder with age. I'm post menopausal.

Hello and Welcome!

Yes it can get harder with age but you’ve got this 👊

I’m in my 30s and found it easier in my 20s but I was a lot more active back then too !

You can do it!

I've gone from 59kg to 54 in 6 weeks, same sort of height!

Well done! Feel free to share any tips :)

I don't have a weight problem at all but I wanted to feel a bit flatter round the tummy.

I was constantly walking past the fridge and getting chocolate bars out. Haven't bought chocolate in two months. No crisps in the house now too.

I snack on carrots and celery. I've cut out sugar from drinks. Stopped buying latte's and gone to tea. 12 calories a cup.

Water with my porridge every morning instead of milk saves 100 calories a bowel.

Yeah cutting out or reducing sugary drinks can make such a difference.

I find that it’s best if I avoid having certain things in the house as well. It’s just too much temptation!

Good idea - I do love making oats with oat milk, but I might look to reduce half of the milk with water instead.

@MotherOfGodWeeFella 3Kg down already. That’s brilliant, are you using something like myfitness pal or nutribullet to record and track your macros?

I agree with the not sleeping thing - I struggled with insomnia during the pandemic. I think it was linked
to a lack of movement as well as stress and I’d find myself craving sugary and fatty foods during the day as well as being too tired too cook so I ended up getting a lot of takeaways.

When my sleep is good, I’m a lot better equipped to make better food choices and don’t have such a big appetite.

@Getfits thanks. I didn't have a problem in my 30s. Hope you and everyone manage to lose weight. I'm determined!

newnamene · 05/05/2024 19:17

Can I join please? 5"2 and 10st7 currently, was always around 8-9 stone band until peri menopause, now I seem to have no will power. I did well 2 years ago and dropped from 11st4 to 9st10 but it's crept back up again! I need to exercise more (currently have an ankle injury so tricky, planning to swim as the weather improves and peleton). Also need to curb the addiction to carbs and sugar and try to eat more healthily. I need some accountability please!

NarrowGate · 05/05/2024 19:21

I’m joining you.

My cohort is fifty this year and I’m very self-conscious at all the parties knowing those who have not seen me since before Covid will think I have let myself go.

In fact I have already lost two stone in the last year through 16-8, but losing another stone would get me back to my prime physically, and my favourite clothes. I’d also love to recover some fitness. 5’3 and very busty so look a lot bigger. Currently 9 stone 6lbs.

LaPalmaLlama · 05/05/2024 19:34

Jumping on the wagon!

I'm 168cm (5'7'') and 68/9kg (ish- confirm tomorrow). Want to be closer to 64/5kg so lose 4kg (10lbs) by end of June. I do a lot of running (c 90k a week) so need to keep my calories reasonably high - therefore I'm trying to just eat less crap and drink less wine. Today I mainlined a bucket of pic n mix so the only way is up. My main trigger for overeating is stress/ worrying - have 2 bickering teens and we are moving house so that should be fine then 😂

@NarrowGate I've also got the 50th bdays this year!! Quite nice to have some big social occasions but also feel pressure to look hot AF in case any of my wanker Uni exes are there.

Getfits · 05/05/2024 19:39

Yes, you’re very welcome to join ! @newnamene the more the merrier.

you’ve lost the weight once and no doubt you’ll be able to do it again😃

I have a massive sweet tooth too, so I’m trying to have something sweet but healthy-ish every day to control the cravings. So today I had honey with my plain Greek yoghurt and I may make a banana and raspberry smoothie later.

I have a (minor) leg injury right now too so I’m trying to focus on diet more than exercise this time around!

Hello and welcome @NarrowGate Yeah I’m around your height and quite top heavy so I also look very busty!

losing just one stone can make such a noticeable difference especially at our height.

@LaPalmaLlama hello glad to have you here!

And yeah I’m a big stress eater too. I try and just avoid having the kind of foods I binge on in the house but I know that’s not possible for everyone.

I'll join 🙌

5ft ish and 10.7st. Initial goal is 1st but would like to lose 1.5st in total.

8.7st would be a dream weight but I think I would find it too hard to maintain.

Will be doing calorie deficit, couch to 5k and weight training in between

MyFitnessPal - I always check the listing is accurate, but it works brilliantly for me.

I'm really pleased with progress so far, but I've a long way to go. Today I was thinking that I feel I'm on course now and in the groove. I've got a few things on in coming weeks so will have to make some sensible choices rather than get carried. I'm perimenopausal, eating three meals a day and not really cutting anything out, just cutting down.

BookShark · 06/05/2024 00:56

I'll also join please. Will weigh in properly tomorrow but I'm somewhere around 5ft 2 and 12st.

First week might involve a bit of eating up before I can meal plan properly, but as a minimum I'll cut back on the wine. Stressful job means that wine has crept in to midweek rather than just weekends, and is probably on the verge of being a problem, so even if I just cut back on that, it'll be a start.

I've started going to the gym but only really managing once per week, so that's another area to try and improve. But really, it'll come down to diet - there's way too much comfort/treat eating and it needs to stop.

I've got a family do in July, so would like to be down a stone or so by then, and then ideally lose another stone before my uni reunion in September. Should theoretically be possible, just need to find the will power, as I've been saying I'll do it every month and then giving up in the first week!

NineBobNote · 06/05/2024 01:37

Ooh, do you have room for a (not so) little one to join?

Reading the other posts and nodding in agreement:
sweet tooth
too many snacks
wfh
little exercise
post menopausal
… sigh

Im 5’3, and honestly can’t bear to weigh myself, so can I go by clothes fitting and/or exercise/mobility or something?

Great idea for a thread and looking forward to sharing support. Thanks for starting this and good luck to everyone.

RememberToSmile1980 · 06/05/2024 06:28

Hi,
Wondered if I could join please. I'm a shortie at 5ft 1inch. Had always been able to maintain my weight, but since I had my eldest child I piled it on. Managed to lose weight successful after my second and went from 11st to 9.4st. Although that was probably due to breastfeeding and healthy eating. Now - I'm 43 and 6 years on I weighed myself last week and I was at 11st 11lbs! Absolutely mortified! Putting it down to peri-menopause, and the fact that I have been snacking way too much on sweet food! Throw in a busy life with a tween and 6 year old I feel I've let myself go. In more ways than one! Anyhow, I need to sort myself out! I have been for a couple of walks and did a kettlebell workout yesterday. Have cut out crisps, chocolate and unhealthy carbs. I am not good at drinking water, therefore have to dilute it with no added sugar squash. I would love to get down to 9st. Not sure if I will achieve it! I need to make better choices and sustain them. Help!

YouBelongWithMe · 06/05/2024 07:18

Hello, I just posted my own thread but my goals are very in line with yours. This is what I posted:

"Backstory - I've been quite ill for about a year, and lost about 8kg through being unable to eat. I was then put on medication and feel fantastic, and have been living life to the ultimate full - out for coffee and cake, extravagant dinners, I've basically been in 'treat yourself' mode for three months.

I've put on 7kg in three months 😬

I'm need to do something but want a set a short term goal. Next month it's my birthday, and in that week I'm off to see Taylor Swift with my daughter and also have a glorious London trip booked with my mum. I'd like to see what I can lose before then, to feel a bit more like myself again"

But my ultimate goal is to be back feeling great by the start of the new term in August.

I'm 5ft9 and this morning I weighed 85.1kg.

Getfits · 06/05/2024 08:06

Good morning, hope you’re all ready to lose 1.5 stone!

I’ve just weighed myself and the results are drum roll please 72.5Kg /11 stone 6 and my waist is 32.5 inches. And for context, I’m approx. 5ft 2.

I know the accuracy of home body fat machines are disputed but the readings are helpful to me as a benchmark/ rough indicator and my body fat currently stands at 35% which is more than I expected 😵‍💫

So:

Starting weight : 11 stone 6
Goal weight : 9 stone 12

My calorie allowance will be 1350 and I’ll be keeping track of it using Myfitness pal. I usually eat 3 times a day but I’m hoping to eat twice a day (11am and 6pm) with two small snacks and lots of decaf and herbal tea but I’ll see how it goes. And of course plenty of water.

Todays breakfast will be Greek yoghurt and oats with honey. I’ll have a homemade blueberry and banana smoothie later as a snack and for dinner it’s grilled pork with homemade potato wedges & veg.

My exercise plan for this week is to do two x 15 minute exercise routines each day. One in the morning and one in the evening. I posted the Lucy W-R upthread and here’s another one I’ll be doing:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=aPRMMwjed7A&pp=ygUdZ3JvdyB3aXRoIGpvIGV2ZW5pbmcgd29ya291dCA%3D

As I’ve mentioned before I have a slight leg injury which means I’m not going as hard on exercise (no running or high impact exercises etc) unfortunately, but the upshot of that is I’m going to be very focused on my diet. So when I do recover and I’m able to increase my exercise, it’ll be a bonus and accelerate the weight loss.

Good luck everyone!

@BookShark welcome to the group and yeah cutting back on wine alone will still have some effect on both your health and weight.

And yes they do say it’s 70% diet for weight loss anyway. But if you’re finding it hard to get to the gym have you considered doing home workouts or going for a walk/jog in your area?

Hello @NineBobNote Yes definitely, that’s a good idea actually.
If you don’t want to weigh yourself you can use something else to keep track of your progress!

I have a particularly tight pair of trousers that I sometimes slip into as a check on my waist size , if I can zip it up - it’s a good sign 😄

Welcome @RememberToSmile1980 Fellow shortie here! (5ft 2ish) I feel the maintenance calorie allowance is already so low for most short people (unless they’re athletes/ super active) so when you need to cut it just becomes super low. It’s a struggle 😅

Help!

You sound like you’re off to a great start with cutting out unhealthy carbs and increasing your water intake. Yeah it’s all about consistency - even if we fall off the wagon at times, we have to be committed to getting back on it!

It’s good you’ve started walking too, Do you think you can fit in 30 minutes brisk walking every day (doesn’t need to be all at once)?

OP posts:
Getfits · 06/05/2024 08:33

I’ll go check out your thread @YouBelongWithMe

Firstly, glad you’re feeling better with the medication and it’s understandable you indulged yourself a bit! It’s unfortunately all too easy to put on 7kg in 3 months - been there 😌 but at least you’re doing something about it now.

And it’s great you’ve got two exciting events to look forward to next month to help motivate you!

Hi - would love to join for accountability too
Another shortie here 5ft 2 and currently weighing in at 11st 5
Aiming for IF most days and drinking 2.5l of water
Less wine and sweet snacks
Need to up the exercise and consistency of all of the above!
