Determined to lose 1.5 stone by July!

Enough is enough..I need to lose 1.5 stone and to keep it off! My goal is to look and feel better, and to be fitter too.

So I’m only 5ft 2 and have been 9 stone for most of my adult life but after constant takeaways, home baking, lack of sleep and inactivity during lockdown, my weight crept up close to 13 stone / 83kg by the summer of 2021 and my body fat percentage was close to 40% which put me in the obese category.

I managed to lose a fair bit of weight using various methods (SW, 1:1, running,
walking, calorie counting, IF) and I was down to 11 stone /70Kg by late 2023. But over the last year it’s been hovering around 11 stone with not much change which has been frustrating.

The past month or so my weight’s actually been creeping up, the latest is I’ve just came back from a 2 week holiday and weighed myself - I’m 11 stone 8!

This is the heaviest I’ve been in over a year I think and I could see it in my holiday pics :/

I want to nip this in the bud by actively starting to get my weight down
towards 10 stone instead of continuing to head back in the direction to 13 stone.

I’m going to post at least every Monday setting out my intentions for diet and exercise and posting my weight/measurements update. Anyone in?

Will also be a good space to share fitness videos and simple healthy recipes!

Weighed myself yesterday. I lost 500g so 94.1. I am under huge amounts of stress with my daughter right now. A situation unlikely to change for the foreseeable and stress causes the body to burn fewer calories to retain / gain weight. So I see this modest loss as a positive.

Getfits · 03/06/2024 11:33

Some great results on here again!

My results :
SW May 5th : 11 stone 6 /72.5kg
CW : 11 stone 1 / 70.3kg
GW : 9 stone 10 /62Kg

Starting waist size : 32.5 inches
CW : 31 inches
GW: 29 inches

So I’ve lost half an inch from my waist and one pound on the scales, I’m very happy with this (little!) loss.

It was quite the struggle week due to period cravings and me trying out various “healthy” cakes” which were probably fairly high calorie anyway because of the soya cream/ maple syrup I ate with it 😆 and also some nights where I didn’t sleep properly which often leads to me over eating in my sleep deprived state.

I didn’t go completely overboard but did exceed 1200 calories most days. Well done to everyone who is still at it whether you maintained lost or gained this week. Consistency and perseverance will get us results in the long term.

Here’s hoping i drop just below 11 stone by next Monday as I’d finally be back in the ‘tens’ (stone-wise) I’m still potentially on track to reach my goal by by July more likely to be the end of July - I’d be happy with that!

Plans for this week:

eat twice a day, with one snack or light soup/smoothie.

Wear my compression sleeve on my leg and contact GP re. leg to see if I can be referred to physio. It’s been 8 weeks of this calf injury. I’d expected it be healed by now?

Walk 5,000-7,000 steps each day.

4 weeks until July starts, 8 weeks until it finishes - we’ve got this!

My weigh in today was not good. After two sets of birthday drinks, a weeks camping and a very boozy bottomless brunch i am up 2lb 😩
but I did my fitness pal every day camping which I don’t normally bother with when away just to get into the habit of logging. I’m hoping the weight gain is mostly water / salt related.
anyway I want to get back on track and focus on the next seven weeks and losing as much as possible - at least half a stone.

Mynewnameis · 03/06/2024 19:41

@icecreamisforwintertoo solidarity. I'm about 5lbs up after a holiday but hoping tomorrow will see a big water loss! I undo my hard work so quickly!

Netcam · 04/06/2024 08:54

Still 8st 4 this morning. Now the last stage of getting rid of the remaining 4 pounds. I still have quite a bit of fat around my tummy/thighs, which has been much worse post menopause. It will be interesting to see if that reduces if I manage to lose the rest of the weight. I'm hoping for a pound every 2 weeks. And if I make it, then the really hard part will be staying there.

I think it’s because it’s a fungus. I have a lot of food sensitivities. Gluten, dairy (cheese is okish), soy… I know what I have to do to get better 7 one of those things is to eat very healthily. I now can’t eat fruit or consume sugar without getting a terrible headache so those are out. Butter is in to repopulate my large intestine - I am taking advice.

I think lentils are a much better mince substitute than processed foods like quorn.

jobessieandme · 05/06/2024 09:51

I'm sheepishly rejoining after a week's holiday where I ate whatever I wanted. It was a walking holiday though so I was pleased that I've only put on a pound and am still 4lbs down from when I started. Hoping to shift at least half a stone more in the next six weeks.

Back on the diet today and my plan is:
B smoothie with protein powder
L chicken and courgetti
D crustless quiche lorraine and steamed vegetables

I'll do a run and abs workout this afternoon. Full steam ahead!

Getfits · 05/06/2024 14:19

@jobessieandme

“Sheepishly rejoining after a week” is what I feel I do each month after over-eating on my period lol

seriously though it’s great you were able to relax the diet a bit on your holiday and did enough walking to offset some of the inevitable excess calories. This is partly why I prefer walking /active breaks to more sedentary holidays.

Half a stone in 6 weeks sounds like a good realistic goal.

I hear ya @Getfits ! Period weeks are a write off. Hope your leg gets better soon, it must be frustrating.

Autumnintowinter · 06/06/2024 19:05

Hi everyone.
lost another pound this week so I’m now just back in tens at 10 stone 13.5 with a total of 7.5 pounds lost.
Feeling pleased that it’s been consistent so far and I’m still feeling motivated. My problem always is when I have a blip and then I always find it hard to get back on it and stay motivated!

I'm back at the gym now and have been upping my steps so trying to get more active as well as focusing on my food too.
Hope everyone is getting on well x

CherryogDog · 06/06/2024 19:44

I'd like to join if there's room!
I lost loads of weight a few years ago by low carbing, plus exercise, kept it off for a few years, then got complacent plus some health issues saw it pile back on.
My head's in the right place to start losing again so here goes!
I'll weigh myself in the morning, I think I'm about 66kg.
My goal weight is 57kg (9 stone), want to tone up and get back in my favourite size 10 non stretch jeans which currently I can't get past my fat knees!
I'm 5'3".
Plan is low carb, reduced UPF, no chocolate / crisps/ cakes etc because I don't have an off switch once I start.
I naturally eat twice a day, around 1pm and 8pm, sometimes have a banana around 11am.
Thanks @Getfits for the thread , and you're off to a flying start!

Getfits · 07/06/2024 12:23

Thanks @jobessieandme I had a virtual physio appointment earlier so I’ve now got some exercises to do and will follow up with the physio in 2 weeks.

Welcome! @Cherryblossom6754 I’m a similar height to you and I miss the days of being around 9 stone! I think eating twice a day can help to keep calories very low if portions are sensible.

I feel you on the not having an off switch - I had a packet of 9 twix fingers all in one go a few weeks back 🤢Haven’t bought them since and probably won’t again for a very long time as I don’t trust myself yet!

Well I've stayed at 12 stone 5.6 but had a terrible week with my OH in hospital so all sensible eating went out of the window really.

Getfits · 08/06/2024 11:01

Sorry to hear that, hope your OH/you feel better soon @Imatorturedpoet

Getfits · 08/06/2024 11:33

So today I’ve finally fallen below 11 stone 🥳 I’ve been 70.5Kg most of the week and this morning I’m 69.8KG / 10.13 stone.

If I can maintain that or even drop another pound for the ‘official’ Monday weigh- in I’ll be firmly into the ‘10s’ and heading towards my next mini milestone of 10stone 7.

This is motivation for me NOT to get that takeaway I was thinking of getting tonight. My fridge is a bit bare today and my weekly shop doesn’t arrive until tomorrow but I’ll try fight the temptation and make do with what I have.

Today :

meal 1: bean burger and sweet potato fries
meal 2: pasta and veg with Parmesan
snack : berry smoothie or small batch of homemade pancakes.

This may be slightly cheating 😅but I’ve found if I weigh myself about 14+ hours after the last time I’ve eaten it gives a ‘better’ reading . So for example eating at 9pm and then weighing yourself at 11am the next morning before you’ve eaten. For the sake of consistency I’m going to do that every time from now on.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Welcome @CherryogDog, I'm the same height as you too. I've made it from 9 1/2 stone to 8 st 4 and am hoping to get those last few pounds off to reach 8st and stay there.

My approach has been similar to you, low carb (apart from fruit and veg), low UPF and only the occasional square of 85% chocolate and no crisps. I've switched to skimmed milk.

I do eat 3 times a day, sometimes with a small 4pm snack on top of that.

But I keep meals small and lunch is basically a big salad with a bit of protein and olive oil. I have a decent breakfast like kefir or porridge with nuts and fruit. I try to keep dinner carb free or very low carb and I think having smaller dinners has made a difference.

I have also cut wine and dessert down to almost nothing, although I probably have a very small glass (1/2 a 187ml can shared with DH) of wine once every couple of weeks.

I don't count calories but I weigh myself when I get up each morning to try and stay on track. This has been the first time in many years that I have weighed this little, possibly 10 or 15 years. I'm now 54 and post menopause.

CherryogDog · 08/06/2024 17:28

@Getfits Well done!
Hi @Netcam , 8 stone 4 , I was probably about 6yrs old when I weighed that 😄
Well I was 66.1 kg
And today 70.1 ffs.
But I'm a frequent weigher and know that my weight fluctuates quite a bit so I'm not disheartened.
And yesterday was a complete fail on the low carbs.
Today I've had a cheese omelette and a bit of salad so far.

Mummyoflittledragon · 09/06/2024 07:42

I’ve only lost 300g this week. 93.8kg. I’m also mostly only eating twice. It’s a tough old time. Dd (15) has anorexia so my eating fluctuates, sometimes not so much with worry, other times more. But I’m trying to keep my strength up by eating set meals most days. In the beginning I was ‘eating for two’ so to speak in my quest to get her to eat. She’s tiny now, about a size 4 and wasting away.

CherryogDog · 09/06/2024 08:40

@Mummyoflittledragon that must be so hard for you 💐

goingdownfighting · 09/06/2024 09:09

Good morning all

@getfits well done

Welcome @CherryogDog

@Mummyoflittledragon I'm so sorry you and your daughter are going through this. You have still lost a little this week which is positive.

I've lost 3.8lb this week (WTAF) and I'm hoping the scales aren't broken! A true example of how weight comes off in fits and starts. I'm 7lbs down from the start and I've just fallen beneath the 10st mark.

SW:147lb
CW: 139,8
GW:125lb

NSW: clothes are more spacious, bra straps have been adjusted.

I attended my Pilates lesson which I loved. Next 5 classes are booked and paid for.

Off to undo some of my work by going for brunch!

Take care all and be kind to yourselves.

Pinkvici22 · 09/06/2024 11:04

Morning all. I’ve been MIA…not had the best couple of weeks, but weighed and I’ve stayed the same. Could be worse!
I’m back on it. I’ve got 3 weeks before I go away and I’m determined to get into the 10s (which means I need to lose 7lbs).

CherryogDog · 09/06/2024 13:55

Hi @goingdownfighting
Talking of bra straps, I had a double mastectomy and DIEP reconstruction, so my boobs are belly fat.
And belly fat behaves like belly fat, wherever you put it.
So I only have one bra that fits, I can't squeeze into my.shock absorbers, and I'm too poor to buy a new selection of bras.
So this weight has to come off! 😀
65.7kg this morning 💥

Netcam · 10/06/2024 07:31

8 stone 3! 3 pounds to go to 8 stone. I can't believe it, I never thought I would achieve this.

Tried before over the years and never made it below 9 stone. Even when I got married (for second time) a year and a half ago I thought I'd tried really hard to lose weight for the wedding but still only made it to 9 stone with what felt like lots of effort.

I think the success really has been because I have finally accepted that I just can't just eat healthily sometimes, I need to do it all the time. Or at least pretty much all the time.

It has been a big change of mindset, when DH and DS1 and 2 have pizza, cake, ice cream, fish and chips etc, I just don't have it. I have accepted that post menopause I just can't eat things like that and it's actually OK.

I have found lots of things I like eating and feel happy with that are compatible with my body and stage of life. And I don't feel hungry or like I'm starving myself at all. It feels like I have found a new way of eating for long term weight maintenance.

I have found buying really good quality fruit and vegetables and basing my meals on them has helped, as well as pretty much avoiding UPF. And then adding small amounts of nuts, seeds, cheese, fish, meat, low fat dairy, olive oil, wholegrains and a small amount of wholewheat bread and pasta.

An occasional small glass of wine, couple of squares of 85% chocolate or a couple of dates are my treats.

Hi all. I've been lurking a bit on this thread but realised I don't think I've actually posted...?! Hope it's ok to pop in to say hello?!

@Netcam - Well done! It's encouraging to hear success from someone in a similar position to me. I wondered if I could ask you what your daily diet looks like (or even weekly)? Do you calorie count and if so, how many? Any other tips?

I am 8 stone 4 but seem stuck here. I definitely look and feel better when below 8 stone but just not managing to lose anything!!
