Losing a couple of kg support thread

GetYourHandOut · 28/04/2024 15:36

I'm blaming the shite weather rather than the biscuits but I'm still in my winter phase and am at the top end of my usual weight range.

I'd like to lose a couple of kg to feel more comfortable and confident as summer (hopefully) approaches.

Does anyone want to join me for a support and accountability thread?

I'm a bit embarrassed to say really
I slipped on the bedroom floor after my shower and crashed into the bedside table.
Ouch.
No improvement at all but the painkillers were awful so just have to manage without.
What annoys me tho is despite having dropped weight my body looks more lumpy and misshapen than ever!
I can't wait to feel better and get back on the low carbing

Shortkiwi · 07/07/2024 18:13

Started at 57kgs. 55.6 today. Aim to get to 55 in 2 weeks for the son’s wedding - to fulfil the aim of this thread 😂 Ran a 10k race today much slower than I did the last one 12 years ago but pleased I did it.

Proteinpud · 08/07/2024 07:34

@SaggyOldClothDog well done on avoiding the family size bag of minstrels! I switched to Maltesers, I don't seem to go through them quite as quickly (though if I'm at home il measure them out because if the bag is there, well...)

@Defrump sorry to hear that, could you ask for any alternative pain meds or do they all tend to have the same effect for you? Re being unhappy with your shape is that something you think is related to weight/health or something you can't influence (eg post menopausal changes?)

Proteinpud · 08/07/2024 07:36

@Shortkiwi congrats on the 10k!

I had another 1500 day yesterday, and managed a gym session (strength training, no cardio). Back in work today and hoping to get back to my martial arts classes later this week so let's see how my energy levels & appetite goes!

Defrump · 08/07/2024 08:39

@Proteinpud
Before all the sickness and slips I was down to about 8 stone 9 but looked toned
I'm down more than that but look flabby now
I'm assuming it's the lack of proper nutrition.
Re the painkillers I am using Paracetamol and deep heat spray now and it's manageable so hopefully will start to feel better this week.

RamaSita · 08/07/2024 10:27

Morning all. Gosh a tough time for a few on this thread at the moment!
@Shortkiwi you seem to be doing great though!
Starting the week at 70.7kg, am premenstrual and feeling it, so will just have to take each day as it comes. No take aways or eating out this week, maybe eating at a friend's one night. I will definitely need some comfort food at points so I guess I should stock up on some healthier alternatives.
I did successfully stop at the infamous two squares of chocolate last night, felt very angelic Halo
When my weight gets to 70.5 I'll be halfway to my goal. Patience and consistency!!

BogRollBOGOF · 10/07/2024 11:16

Things are improving here. The big thing is that I'm sleeping better and not waking in pain, and a few nights of improved sleep means that I'm now no longer staggering around like an extra from Shaun of the Dead.

I'm not full power, but my aim for this week is to go back to phase 1, and pick better habits like water and more plants up. I'm not worrying about energy in/ out yet, but hopefully I can get back in that groove before I get the full time company of my ravenous carb monsters over the summer Grin

It's definitely harder when they're permo-hungry. So much more resistance required!

@BogRollBOGOF glad to hear it!

I've had quite a big drop today, hardly dare believe it but hope that when I weigh in again on Monday it will prove genuine. Last week I averaged 70.9kg and today I was 69.3. Even with period due any day!

So my progress overall is I've lost 3.7kg in just over 9 weeks, which is still only a slow and steady rate really but I don't mind that. Haven't run out of patience yet, still motivated, haven't had a sense of denying myself too many pleasures.

Will hold off til Monday before I really pat myself on the back but thrilled to get below 70kg / 11 stone.

Had a look at the calories on the menu of the fancy cinema I'm going to this weekend and it was so eye opening. Will be making some specific choices that's for sure!

How is everyone else coping?

Proteinpud · 11/07/2024 18:23

Ooh that's exciting @RamaSita !

I'm still getting over covid, not back at the gym/classes yet so feeling very sedentary. Most days this week I've been under 1500 calories because my appetite hasn't come back - so I imagine that might lead to a bit of weight loss (unless it's a plateau after last week!)

I've discovered 'Gym kitchen' ready meals from Tesco, they're really handy to have in the fridge if I'm in a bit of a pinch. Typically under 500 calories, around 30g of protein and a bit of veg.

everycowandagain · 12/07/2024 07:49

@Proteinpud I like the gym kitchen meals too, I keep a couple of the frozen ones in. Handy for a quick high protein meal, along with a big salad or big pile of veg.

I am aiming for maintenance this week although I must admit that, now I am not being so strict, I am adding in a lot of extras... I will even out once the novelty wears off!!

Glad to see that others are getting some good steady progress despite some tough times.

BogRollBOGOF · 15/07/2024 07:06

A new week, time to up a gear.
Still injured, but am now getting phases of not being concious about it, and not constantly taking ibuprofen, and my sleep's improving significantly so I'm not in a pit of fatigue. I've stayed off running longer than the osteopath said, but I've been out on 4-6mi walks so my step counts improved last week.

I'm kind of back to square 1, as I'd only just started seeing progress after the first few weeks and it doesn't take much to undo it, but at least I'm no heavier than I was 6 weeks ago when I started. 4-5 hours of broken, painful sleep and constant pain down the neck and arm was not going to keep many people on track with new habits!

Defrump · 15/07/2024 07:40

Morning all
Ooh that's great @BogRollBOGOF especially managing to do those long walks
I am still pretty sore and not doing any exercise at all
Sleep is bad still but I'm stopping the junk and getting back to low carbing
My skin has got so spotty and the melasma is back because I've been eating loads of sugary shit.
So yesterday I made keto scones and I shall have with fresh strawberries and extra thick cream. Weight this morning 53.7kg

Good luck getting back on it. It's hard to put that extra effort in when you're below par, then the whammy of the easy, appealing choices not being the optimum long term effect.

everycowandagain · 16/07/2024 08:10

Hang in there @BogRollBOGOF and @Defrump Sometimes life gets in the way of our best laid plans, you can only do what you can do. And you still end up in a better place than if you had done nothing.

I am maintaining now, I am up maybe a pound and a half from my lowest weight which is partly food volume and maybe a little bit of fat from my weekend away but I am happy here around 60kg.

I am loosely tracking and aiming for 1900-2000 calories, my maintenance is about 2150 so that gives me room for extras. Even on these calories I still have to make swaps and choices, it reminds me that true maintenance is not a free for all and still requires me to be intentional about food.

RamaSita · 16/07/2024 10:08

I'm at 69.9kg so slightly up from the record low last week but still under 70kg, under 11 stone at last. Half a stone firmly OFF. Feel so pleased. Period has been really rough this month but turned the corner now.
Really do have to thank this thread for the accountability and the space for self reflection. Thanks you lot!
Now to tackle the next half stone 💪🏼

everycowandagain · 16/07/2024 18:16

High five @RamaSita!

Proteinpud · 17/07/2024 12:32

Congratulations @RamaSita !
Glad things are going well for you @everycowandagain

I'm no longer trying to eat in a deficit but trying to eat sensibly. Covid made me realise I'd need to be under 1600 every day to see a noticeable weight change and I'm not prepared to do that! Going to try and fuel my workouts and put a bit more muscle on instead. I've sustained some good habits though, smaller portion sizes of chocolate, making fruit a daily part of my diet etc. So I'm happy with that.

BogRollBOGOF · 17/07/2024 13:25

This week is going better. Slightly derailed by a take-away last night to celebrate DS2's SATs results and report. He's dyslexic and it's only really this year that he's got back to where he should be after the disruption of the Covid years, so some duck in plum sauce was a worthy sacrifice to recognise his efforts this year 😉

Had salmon burgers and salad for lunch. A massive MN salad Grin

RamaSita · 17/07/2024 23:20

Thanks @everycowandagain and @Proteinpud ! Sounds like an excellent decision, protein. Love the healthy goals and self knowledge! @BogRollBOGOF what a great thing to celebrate there tooStar and I'm sure your week can still be on track overall.
I'm making an extra effort this week as I suspect it'll be tricky next week when we're visiting family. I won't have as much control over what I eat or when I eat, there will be tempting treats, and drinks will flow which will impair my judgement! Will give some thought to strategies to minimise the damage. Tips welcome.

BogRollBOGOF · 18/07/2024 23:43

Pre-menstrual carb cravings!
However I indulged them with a small batch of home-made raspberry chocolate cupcakes made in the air-fryer. They did actually contain a substantial potion of home-grown raspberries, and while they're clearly an indulgence, it's actually not much worse than something like butter and jam on toast. It ticked the box. I moved on.

The raspberries were so fresh, I had to give chance for the protein to crawl off 😂
I love sun-warmed raspberries. They're one of the best things ever.

I started well with mushroom and spring onion omlette.

I am trending downwards as the week progresses, despite unfavourable hormones.

I've had an active day with a fitness class and end of term activities for my youth group.

It's galling when DH starts talking about active calories- 6ft of man is no even playing field. He's done 4mi of running, and an hour in the gym and burned more than I do racing a half-marathon. Gym work barely registers as additional energy expenditure for me, and I can do more tricep pull downs at the same rate as him! So sexist and sizeist 🙄😂

everycowandagain · 19/07/2024 09:37

@BogRollBOGOF maybe you should enjoy the crawling bonus protein on your fresh raspberries ha ha. Can you log that in mfp/nutracheck???

Same here with the 6 foot 4 DH, he just doesn't get how much higher his calorie burn is than mine!!

everycowandagain · 19/07/2024 09:46

@RamaSita it's tough when you are visiting because you have so little control over food. I tend to take some high protein snacks with me, then just make the best of it food wise. Drink plenty of water, eat some fruit and don't sweat it too much.

Enjoy the time with family! You can get back to normal habits afterwards.

RamaSita · 22/07/2024 07:14

@BogRollBOGOF sounds like you're doing so great!
Thanks @everycowandagain you're right, and those are helpful things to focus on. Don't want things to get in the way of enjoying life. As you say I can get back on track the following week.

Defrump · 22/07/2024 08:09

Morning all
