Losing a couple of kg support thread

GetYourHandOut · 28/04/2024 15:36

I'm blaming the shite weather rather than the biscuits but I'm still in my winter phase and am at the top end of my usual weight range.

I'd like to lose a couple of kg to feel more comfortable and confident as summer (hopefully) approaches.

Does anyone want to join me for a support and accountability thread?

Oh no
I always mess up on a Friday
Had a super delightful gluten free fish and chips for lunch....
Let's see what the damage is on the scales tomorrow

CantFindMyGlasses3 · 21/06/2024 22:47

Did great for the first couple of days bur away with work tonight and no option other than motorway meal, hotel breakfast etc. But it's temporary!

GetYourHandOut · 22/06/2024 09:08

Morning all.

I'm maintaining at the moment and I'm feeling fine about it.

It feels like I'm in a good balance between eating nice things and not going overboard.

I'll continue to check in here I think, as I like chatting with you all!

Well, this is odd. Weight this morning is 54.4kg
Will yesterday's carbfest show up tomorrow?
Not complaining!
Have been for a short walk this morning before I tackle sorting out the kitchen cupboards.
Have a great weekend everyone 😀

BogRollBOGOF · 22/06/2024 11:49

I had a bit of a burnout yesterday which I'm shrugging off as a combination of hormones and the last hard week of running on my plan. It wasn't too wild, but did finish with a nice chilli and chips in the pub and a pint. The key bit is resuming business today.

I've had a good start with something light before parkrun, and I'll do myself an alternative lunch to the family.

everycowandagain · 23/06/2024 07:29

I have well and truly busted through my plateau, after exactly 2 weeks of no results!! Will weight in at the gym later (scales are differently calibrated to my scales at home) but I think I am now about 61kg vs my final goal of 59.9kg, I started at 64.8kg so I am massively feeling the difference now.

Proteinpud · 23/06/2024 10:12

Congratulations @everycowandagain ! Well done for persevering, it's clearly paid off!

everycowandagain · 23/06/2024 10:19

Thanks @Proteinpud! It tested my persistence, that's for sure.

The gym scales had me at 61.1kg so I have 10 days to hit 59.9kg. Aggressive but I will give it my best shot!

My squats were surprisingly good this morning, although I had some conditioning work to do at the end of my leg session which was hideous! Now I am getting my steps in and planning my food for the day.

BogRollBOGOF · 23/06/2024 12:45

Had a post-parkrun weigh-in of 62.9 which was pleasing. Not sure if it's a blip, but the downward trend has started from my initial 64. I managed to have a good Saturday too after Friday's urges.

I've got a shepherds pie in progress in the slow cookers (one for meat/ veg, the other for potatoes), so a good dinner will be ready later, and we've got plans to get out and about. I'm already on 8000 steps from volunteering at parkrun- in that role, I actually cover a similar distance to the kids!

Eyesopenwideawake · 23/06/2024 13:11

@BogRollBOGOF snap! Also 62.9 today! I'm having chicken and bacon pie tonight. Yum!

Shortkiwi · 23/06/2024 15:26

Started off at 57kgs(5 ft 1), 56kgs today. Aiming for 55kgs in 4 weeks for son’s wedding, Not been trying as hard as I should have done with the diet but upped the exercise.

SaggyOldClothDog · 23/06/2024 19:52

Well done @everycowandagain @BogRollBOGOF and @Shortkiwi ! It's good to know that discipline is possible!

My weekly average was down by another 200g (🤣) to 70.7kg!! It's a wee bit disheartening, but to be fair, if I'm too strict, I'll never stick to it.

I am trying to think more about quality as well as quantity but all the "healthy and nutritious" snacks are invariably calorie dense <eyes packs of various nuts in the cupboard>.

Of course, today was completely knackered by a carvery lunch and pudding - though I did take it easy on the roasties and stuck mainly to the other veg, and the pudding was one of the low(er) calorie ones on the menu. (As an aside, why do they do that?! I don't want to know 🙈🙉🙊).

But I hit more than 100k steps this week (105k so far!) and 985 "active" minutes - am tempted to squeeze another 15 mins in before bed to round it up. So surely that should count for something ?🙏

Shortkiwi · 23/06/2024 19:57

@SaggyOldClothDog fabulous effort on the steps 👏👏👏

The good news is all calories are not equal, and the healthier ones like nuts although dense in content actually aren't as avaliable for the body to digest, so while the amount on the packet is high, your body isn't neccesarily getting the full energy from them because the protein and fats are slower to digest. Plus they'll keep you fuller for longer so less temptation to have something extra a while later. The energy a food releases when combusted in a lab isn't necessarily equal to what the body extracts

According to Tim Spector/ Zoe anyway...

It's a PITA that it's easiest to account for pre-made foods compared to home cooking. I'm not consistent at recipes either so trying to work out what I was slinging in the pot and then what went in to me is definitely more art than science.

A week of using MFP has been good for focus and building on my first couple of weeks which were more about building habits.

This coming week will be a challenge as my running outputs will be lower. Hopefully hormones will settle. The weekend was fairly balanced though which is pleasing.

everycowandagain · 24/06/2024 06:42

@SaggyOldClothDog great job on the steps!! I find higher steps make a big difference.

I know what you mean about calorie dense "healthy" food, for me it's portion control for anything that would derail me in large quantities (not denying myself completely) and then lots of other high volume food that I enjoy.

Although at this point I feel like I am about to turn into a salad!!

My plan for the week (my final push) is to squeeze in as much extra cardio and steps as I can, keep my food as tight as possible and hang on to the finish line. My calories are about as low as I can tolerate (1500) but I know I can do it for a couple of weeks so I should be able to hang in there for my final blast.

GetYourHandOut · 20/06/2024 21:14

I hope that's given you a boost @everycowandagain 💪

My DC made cheese scones at school today and I'm the only one in the family who likes them. I may have eaten 3 as a pre dinner snack 😳

I went to see family yesterday, there were cheese scones and I brought some home and put them in the freezer to enjoy some other time!!

I'd mentioned about relaxing a bit on food because I'd be starting a new job (tomorrow!) I've still been trying to eat well, relaxed a bit on snacks and kept my usual exercise. Carried on tracking because I'm in the habit of it, and last week averaged approx 2000 calories a day.

Weighed myself out of curiosity yesterday, and quelle suprise, I'm the exact same weight 😂

I suppose it's encouraging to know that my body is quite good at keeping to a set point when going up not just down!

everycowandagain · 25/06/2024 11:46

Well you have got maintenance nailed @Proteinpud that's for sure! I hope the new job goes well.

I weighed in at the gym today at 60.4kg, my goal of 59.9kg by middle of next week is within reach!! I had a 0.5kg unexpected drop overnight which was a pleasant surprise!

Onwards with my plan of millions of steps and being strict with my food - one more week to go!!

BogRollBOGOF · 25/06/2024 14:59

Well done ProteinPud!

I've had a nice surprise this morning. Gear change in the hormone department and I weighed in at 62.5 another subtle loss. I wasn't expecting the hormones to be favourable yet.
The rest of my body feels lousy though. I might be sweating, but I'm not sweating the step count until my energy perks up. Hopefully tomorrow.

Feeling sensible on food today though. That always helps.

RamaSita · 25/06/2024 16:53

Sounding excellent @Proteinpud @everycowandagain and hope you feel better soon @BogRollBOGOF

I was away last week and did over indulge to be honest (pastries and cakes) but lots of steps and the scales gods are being reasonably kind. I'm doing great this week so far, so hope I can soon get back on track.

71.1kg today, compared to 73kg when I joined the thread. Pretty static overall the last few weeks but I'm definitely in better habits and know what still needs to change. Will be good to get under 70g, and then keep chipping away until I'm a healthy BMI which I think is around 68kg for me.

Eyesopenwideawake · 25/06/2024 21:58

Well done everyone! 62.7kg today so also heading in the right direction.

Defrump · 26/06/2024 09:05

Woo hoo
My weight is now 54kg!
V happy

everycowandagain · 26/06/2024 10:22

Well done @Eyesopenwideawake and @Defrump!!

I am plugging away at it, planning ahead for a couple of social things at the weekend and getting a lot of steps in.
