Losing a couple of kg support thread

GetYourHandOut · 28/04/2024 15:36

I'm blaming the shite weather rather than the biscuits but I'm still in my winter phase and am at the top end of my usual weight range.

I'd like to lose a couple of kg to feel more comfortable and confident as summer (hopefully) approaches.

Does anyone want to join me for a support and accountability thread?

Thanks @everycowandagain
I am wondering if I should just try to maintain now rather than lose any more. It's scarily addictive watching the number on the scales go down tho

RamaSita · 26/06/2024 15:43

Fab to see some of you reaching your goal, definitely motivating for me.
I know clothes sizing can be wild but I bought a size 12 dress today in the sales, when I'd normally be a 14, so that felt nice. And my summer dresses from last year are fitting comfortably which is also a relief!

everycowandagain · 26/06/2024 17:38

@Defrump you could go back to maintenance for a few weeks and see how you feel?

@RamaSita new (smaller) clothes are always good!!

CantFindMyGlasses3 · 27/06/2024 07:05

Down 3lb (sorry I don't use kg!). Delighted. A lot of it is week one water but still a good start. Aiming for 7lb by August

CantFindMyGlasses3 · 27/06/2024 07:07

Oh I did the maths! I was 73. Aiming for 69. I'm 5'7

everycowandagain · 27/06/2024 10:31

Good start @CantFindMyGlasses3 keep at it!

RamaSita · 27/06/2024 16:35

@CantFindMyGlasses3 how great, hope that is motivating for you. You're similar proportions to me by the sounds of it, my aim is similar too. Will be really pleased to get to the half stone mark but slow and steady is definitely the plan of attack!

BogRollBOGOF · 27/06/2024 22:29

Ploughing on here. Not an easy week. I'm tapering anyway so less running miles, but also I've got a random injury spring up that's really sore, limiting sleep and generally being very wearing.
But I'm still making decent choices and eating better than before I got going this month.

I am feeling marginal improvements. Slight changes in my jaw line and waist.

everycowandagain · 28/06/2024 07:29

Injuries are so frustrating @BogRollBOGOF Are you tapering for an event?

It's all about the marginal gains. Tiny changes plus time equals real progress!!

I am also plugging away at it, scales have been the same for a few days but I am logging my food and my steps and sitting tight...

BogRollBOGOF · 28/06/2024 21:31

I've got a half-marathon on Sunday.
My injury's in my upper body- looks like a pinched nerve so it's slow to ease up.
I noticed running jolting it yesterday. I'll see how it is with a gentle parkrun tomorrow.
The worst bit is that it's really uncomfortable for lying down so my sleep's been its worst this week since the distant days of ravenous babies having growth spurts.

It's also not motivating for standing around the kitchen cooking or keeping it neat.

Proteinpud · 30/06/2024 11:13

Thinking of you doing a half marathon today @BogRollBOGOF !

I've not been posting as haven't been focusing on diet, due to the new job. Though a combination of being in the office around new people and not snacking, plus hot weather and being a bit ill, has meant I've eaten slightly less this week (still tracking, averaged 1700 calories a day despite one of those days including a generous restaurant portion of tiramisu) Scales this morning were exactly 60kg. Protein has been a bit low though due to being ill so hoping it's not muscle!
Will still try and keep the snacking down, as I can easily eat the equivalent of a meals worth of food in chocolate some days, so let's see if being back in work makes a difference.

BogRollBOGOF · 01/07/2024 09:52

The half-marathon went well. I haven't focused on food over the weekend, but while I haven't been great on the plant consumption, I also haven't gone to excess either. I feel like I've eaten what I need and not eaten random extras.

I'm ploughing through today; food shop day tomorrow and reset mentally tomorrow.

No runs scheduled for today, so I'm resetting the domestic chaos and a fresher house, particularly the kitchen will help pick the food choices back up.

RamaSita · 01/07/2024 10:03

@BogRollBOGOF blimey well done, hope injury didn't bother you too much, doesn't sound like it got in your way! Amazing.

@Proteinpud well done to you on the new job too, reckon that tiramisu was well deserved.

Although I'm definitely eating less than I used to each day, this week I've had a meal out and a take away, so seems unlikely there was much of a deficit overall. I just didn't want to step on the scales this morning and see no change... so I'm waiting until tomorrow on the off-chance that helps(!) Soo thirsty from the takeaway, wish they didn't put so much salt in!!

In the past I've tended to get stuck at the point of losing around 5lb and lose motivation. I'm still motivated so hope I can break through that. With previous efforts I was lighter and had a healthy BMI so it matters more now. Should prob avoid eating out and take aways in July!

Proteinpud · 02/07/2024 07:45

Well done on the half marathon @BogRollBOGOF I'm not a runner and I can't comprehend how people do such things, you have my respect!

@RamaSita hope you get the result you want today. It's frustrating how easy it is for just one or two meals to take away a deficit you've worked on for the rest of the week.

Turns out my lack of appetite might have been the start of getting ill rather than any kind of willpower - I've ended up with bloody COVID! Very annoying. Will just have to wait it out I guess.

Defrump · 02/07/2024 11:05

@Proteinpud Oh no, hope you feel better soon
I have been weirdly ill too- not a cold and not exactly flu, I was still able to get up and make a cuppa but felt grim and a lot of vomiting and headache that wouldn't shift.
Thankfully fine now.
Weight has dropped a bit too much so I'm taking a week off as got some celebrations coming up.

It's all in the practice Wink Grin
Some years ago, I did a half, put everything into it, doing it well and was agog at the concept of doing it twice over for a full marathon, and someone pointed out that the half was my limit because I trained for a half. I did go on to run a marathon and funnily, when you've trained with the extra milage, it does become possible! Grin (That and taking it easy with a gentle run/ walk strategy which made it much easier to do and recover from)

Delay on the food shopping/ reset due to odd timings for secondary transition affecting routines.

everycowandagain · 03/07/2024 10:34

I did it! 9.5 weeks and I am down almost 5.5kg, coming in at 59.5kg.

The last couple of weeks were a slog, but I am feeling great and ready to enjoy my weekend away.

Will be back next week to hang out at fairly strict maintenance!

@Proteinpud I hope you feel better soon, get plenty of rest.

RamaSita · 03/07/2024 10:46

@Proteinpud thanks, I'm happy with the scales today, 70.7kg so back on track really and getting closer to a mini goal of under 70kg. At that point I'll have lost half a stone (excuse me mixing measurements!) so that will feel like a nice little achievement.
@everycowandagain that is really seriously impressive Star something to aspire to for me!

Proteinpud · 03/07/2024 17:46

@Defrump that sounds horrible, hope you're feeling better!
Covid has been pretty rough so far, so everything is on pause for me. Not left the house for a few days, not really eating much. I'm sure it'll all balance out when I'm well again. Trying to eat nutritiously for what I am having though, to help with recovery.

@BogRollBOGOF I don't know how anyone sticks to the consistent training! Running has never been my thing, probably because I'm bad at it and it frustrates me very quickly. My boyfriend is a natural runner. I suppose he can't understand why I do weights! I've read a few books by long distance runners and it sounds great for those who click with it.

@everycowandagain congratulations! It's been great following your journey in this thread, you've been so committed and consistent. Curious to know what your next steps are, eg will you gradually increase calories from here? Is your maintenance going to be much different from when you started?

@RamaSita glad it's going well, half a stone is definitely something to celebrate, I'm sure you'll be there very soon!

everycowandagain · 04/07/2024 15:44

Good question @Proteinpud. I plan to spend a couple of weeks at maintenance until my next holiday(!) then I am starting a new strength focused training phase building up to testing 1 rep maxes at the end of the year and I plan to go to a bit above maintenance Aug to Dec. I want to keep building muscle so I need to fuel it, but I don't want to do a full on bulk like I did last year. So maybe a 200 cal/day surplus.

I should recalculate maintenance, not really sure how much it will have dropped by as a result of being 5kg lighter.

Hope you are feeling better!

BogRollBOGOF · 05/07/2024 20:56

Not been a great week. Unsuprisingly the painful niggle has continued which has made me less motivated to stand and prepare food, and I've been in knackered carb craving mode as I've slept poorly for nearly two weeks.

The running recovery was fine and it was always going to be a light week for exercise anyway.
It is improving though, so hopefully I can get back in the groove.

At least I did the race 1.5kg lighter than I was a month earlier which is good!

Proteinpud · 07/07/2024 10:01

So I've lost 1kg on the covid diet this week, wouldn't recommend it! So now 59kg. I found myself wondering if it's similar to how people feel on weight loss jabs as most of the time I've had little interest in food, aside from some intense sugar cravings occasionally, presumably due to lack of energy.
I have tried to eat well where I could to help recovery, average for the week has been 1500 calories and 80g protein a day. If that's what it takes for me to be in a deficit though I don't think I'd want to keep this up! I am going to see if I can avoid putting weight back on when my appetite comes back though.

How is everyone else doing?

Defrump · 07/07/2024 11:42

Same as you @Proteinpud
Not Covid but had a fall and hurt my back, side, thigh, knee etc
The strong painkillers have made me so nauseous I have lost a tonne of weight but not to be recommended at all!

Proteinpud · 07/07/2024 12:51

Sorry to hear about your fall @Defrump , what happened? Hope you're feeling better soon and can be off the painkillers, nausea is horrible + I know you'd mentioned you'd not wanted to lose any more weight. That must be annoying timing, though hopefully will mean once you're back on your feet you can enjoy some socialising and letting go a little!

SaggyOldClothDog · 07/07/2024 14:30

@BogRollBOGOF@Proteinpud@Defrump Hope you all feel better soon! Sometimes it is a case of listening to your body and giving it what it needs to get back on track.

I'm quickly going nowhere progress wise - last week was a gain back up to 71kg, which I hoped was mostly hormonal, but this week it's been pretty stubborn.

There has been a birthday which has involved (a glorious!) cake and I'll be escorting a bunch of 11 year olds for pizza later 🤦. There has also been in excess of 100k steps and 1k "active" minutes. Clearly there becomes a point where "move more" does precisely bugger all.

Annoying thing is, for the most part my diet is not too bad (although I do have a sweet tooth and love my carbs). I aim to get a good amount of protein with my meals and when I track, I get way more than the RDA for fibre.

On top of that (unless I fancy a glass of wine once the kids are in bed) I generally go between about 12-14 hours without eating.

I've tried pushing longer but I'm always wary of going too long without food after my morning workout. And the upshot tends to be I'm extra ravenous for the remainder of the day.

Can you tell I'm feeling sorry for myself?! 😂.

I am also well aware of my capacity to graze and habit of sticking my hand back in the packet when mid afternoon munchies strike a work. But at least this week I opted for a tropical dried fruit mix. Instead of my usual family sized bag of minstrels. That's something...
