Losing a couple of kg support thread

GetYourHandOut · 28/04/2024 15:36

I'm blaming the shite weather rather than the biscuits but I'm still in my winter phase and am at the top end of my usual weight range.

I'd like to lose a couple of kg to feel more comfortable and confident as summer (hopefully) approaches.

Does anyone want to join me for a support and accountability thread?

Thanks @GetYourHandOut and well done to you too! Enjoy your plans. We're at a party tonight but I'll take some non alcoholic options to keep the calories down.

Proteinpud · 08/06/2024 10:57

Well done @RamaSita and @GetYourHandOut

I've measured this morning and think I've lost an inch off my waist and hips. I say 'think' because there's a margin of error when measuring yourself but I do think my jeans are fitting more comfortably. I also took some progress pics to compare to the start of the year and I've definitely got some more muscle definition in my arms/shoulders and dare I say it, a slight flattening around the waist. Prob not enough for anyone else to notice but enough to make me feel motivated and that's what counts!

everycowandagain · 08/06/2024 10:58

Well done @RamaSita it sounds like a real mindset shift.

And that's great @GetYourHandOut

My weight has been very samey the last few days but I am keeping my head down and doing the work every day.

Defrump · 08/06/2024 11:42

Ooh I'm holding myself to account- we went out for dinner last night and I had a few things I don't normally have namely sugar, gluten and dairy. Unsurprisingly the scales have shot up but its okay I will go for a long walk later and have lots of housework to do.

everycowandagain · 08/06/2024 15:52

@Defrump some of the gain will reverse, it will at least partly be the extra food volume in your body etc not pure fat gain.

BogRollBOGOF · 09/06/2024 11:24

Weekend going OK here. There was a moment involving chocolate hobnobs yesterday. I'd been busy all day and needed an energy surge to face making dinner.

Get through the rest of the weekend, and update my sheet for next week to keep momentum up.

I did a bit of a top-up shop on the way home from parkrun so we have plenty of fresh food in.

Proteinpud · 09/06/2024 20:44

This weekend has been pretty good for me, haven't eaten out, and I've done 90mins of capoeira yesterday and was at the jiu jitsu gym for 3hrs today, though obviously not active the entire time!

Just looked at nutracheck and I've averaged 1750 calories this week. Definitely not going to go lower than that, don't think it's realistic for me, or healthy. Sounds quite high but that includes the social days as well as the sensible ones!
Will be going away tomorrow so will see what happens!

RamaSita · 10/06/2024 07:55

@Proteinpud that's so good about the photos and the jeans and measurements. I'm quite a way from my jeans fitting better, but I will feel so pleased when they do! Currently wearing some work trousers from years back and although I can do them up they are uncomfortable and tight and I somewhat regret my decision! Also realised my top has a stain on the front so feeling really chic and stylish overall Hmm
Period due any moment so will ignore what the scales said this morning and just crack on with the week and do my best.

BogRollBOGOF · 10/06/2024 09:30

Tape measure and scales have been out. Largely the same as last week which I expected.

My log is drawn up ready for this week and I've started with porridge, berries and seeds with the intention that it'll get burned off on a 90 min run later. I'm trying to tweak beakfast protein/ carb levels to the demands of my running plan.

DH returns in the second half of the week and it has been easier catering for 3 for getting started in his absence.

everycowandagain · 10/06/2024 14:53

@RamaSita I am also back in some old work trousers. A bit snug on the thighs, but they fit far better than I expected them to.

I am exhausted today for various reasons but have pre planned all my food and am sticking to it. And I will have an early night. I have just over 3 weeks to my goal date and I am pretty well on track to hit my goal of 59.9kg, but I will have to be super consistent all the way to the end.

RamaSita · 10/06/2024 16:51

@BogRollBOGOF is that a plan for every meal every day this week? I like that idea but I'm not the head chef at home and he is a bit spontaneous.
@everycowandagain 3 weeks is not long! I'm sure you'll do it.
Free lunch today! Work trousers even tighter Blush

Proteinpud · 10/06/2024 20:18

@RamaSita surely it's just bloating/water retention for you this week (if you're anything like me at least!) Hang in there!

@BogRollBOGOF well done on the running effort!

@everycowandagain it seems like you've really found your way with this, so I'm sure you'll reach your goal.

I did my weekly weigh in this morning and was 60.4, so exactly the same weight I was two weeks ago 😂 A little frustrating that I can't influence the scale as I'd like, but ultimately if I'm getting stronger then I'm likely to be building a bit more muscle (or at least maintaining the muscle I've got), and hopefully losing a bit of fat, so I'm going to accept it. Today wasn't the best as we had a five hour drive and a takeaway at the end, but tomorrow have a 40km bike ride planned. Not cycled for a little while so wish me luck!

GetYourHandOut · 10/06/2024 20:21

Keep going @Proteinpud!

I've had a terrible day eating-wise. A direct response to a tough day yesterday with family stuff. Had an emotional hangover this morning and fed it with food 😳

Tomorrow is a new day.

I'm focusing on increasing plants, moving a bit more for casual movement (already do a good amount of exercise) and drinking water so tallying off what I do each week. It's just a folded piece of paper giving an A5 sheet for the week so can use it all month.

For breakfast, if I need high energy it's porridge, middling, boiled eggs and a round of toast and omlette if energy isn't an issue.

SaggyOldClothDog · 10/06/2024 20:52

Well done everyone for keeping at it! 👏
I've decided I'm starting afresh today now I'm back in work.

Ended last week with a weekly average of 71kg (typically it jumped up after yesterday's weigh-in otherwise I'd have met my target of staying below 71kg🤦).

Mind you, I'm not surprised as a few cheeky cocktails on Friday led to me feeling both ravenous and bloated at the weekend.
Food wise I've been relatively well behaved today (albeit I did help finish off the remnants of DD's birthday cake) and I was unexpectedly more active (Monday is usually my rest day, exercise wise) due to a emergency trot to school with forgotten cooking supplies, then a trot back to try and actually get some work done.

Google maps told me it was a 45 min walk home but I smashed it in 30. I earned that piece of cake 😂.

Proteinpud · 10/06/2024 21:32

@GetYourHandOut sorry you've had a tough time. Remember that one day is only one day, the key is getting back on track. Thanks for the encouragement, I'm going to continue to keep track with photos and measurements because I'm sure I'm still eating a lot less/more mindfully than I used to. It's been ages since I've eaten a full bag of mini eggs without thinking about it, although that could be because it's June rather than because of my willpower!

Defrump · 11/06/2024 09:54

Back to low carb for me and weight is going back in the right direction- 55.5kg this morning
I'm so annoyed because not only did the meal out spoil my weight loss and cause a painful arthritis flare up but I now also have a massive spot on my face!

everycowandagain · 11/06/2024 14:36

I am feeling a bit disheartened today, my weight feels like it has been the same for aaaaaages. I must be due a scale drop!! I am hitting my calories and my steps, so I know I need to keep at it and be patient but it's hard.

I keep looking at my weight graph to remind myself how much I have achieved! Otherwise I forget all the progress of the past 6 weeks (ie 8 pounds down!!) and get really annoyed with myself DOH!!

BogRollBOGOF · 12/06/2024 17:36

Still going. Had a lovely bowl of halloumi and med veg for lunch. 2x boiled eggs and 2x toast have got me through my swim and run.

Dinner last night was a funny one. One of my youth groups was walking to the chippie last night. I was hungry before going so did a bowl of greek salad. Accepted the offer of a half-portion of chips. Came home and gave the DCs oven chips, corn on the cob and matinated chicken kebabs so just had my share of the chicken. Somewhat de-constructed over 3 hours, but it was pretty well balanced in the end.

Being small, it's a PITA explaining to others that I'm cutting back. The excess on me is subtle and well hidden (but I'm increasingly getting chaffing when running which didn't happen a stone ago!) and I eat fairly moderately anyway. It's just that as a small person I need less than most in the first place.

I find telling myself "not now" is a good way to delay or let cravings pass. It's nicer than being absolute about not having tempting things.

I did have my usual bottle of coke at the pub yesterday. I go there and read while DS does an activity. I don't drink sweetners so there's not much alternative really and the weather's not been good for going walking to fill the time.

everycowandagain · 13/06/2024 08:17

Glad to hear you are still at it @BogRollBOGOF

I am STILL the same weight and have been for a good week ARGH I know I am in a good calorie deficit so I am pushing on and hopefully that scale drop will come eventually! I do feel leaner though. 3 weeks to my end date!!

Defrump · 13/06/2024 08:23

55.1kg this morning
I need to dig out some old clothes and see if they fit better.
No walks this week as I've had a steroid injection in the knee for my osteoarthritis.
But sticking to low carb helps a lot for me.

everycowandagain · 13/06/2024 09:00

I hope the steroid injection helps @Defrump Glad you can keep at the low carb even when your activity is limited.

I am contemplating @Proteinpud's pringles diet to break through my plateau...

Defrump · 13/06/2024 09:58

Thanks @everycowandagain
I get out of the habit of walking v quickly so when I do finally go back to it it will seem like a mountain to climb- pardon the pun.
Once I get to my target weight I'm going to eat whatever I like but just drink a cinnamon tea afterwards.

Eyesopenwideawake · 13/06/2024 11:28

Just a thought - if any of you find it really difficult to stop/cut down on a particular food or food group I'm happy to do a one off free hypnosis session for you. I worked with my own subconscious in March on biscuits and milk chocolate and have had precisely one biscuit and 3 squares of chocolate since then. Dark chocolate on the other hand...😉

Proteinpud · 13/06/2024 12:16

@everycowandagain it was a rather small sample size for the experiment, but if you want to try it, it was a full tube of the original flavour....!
Though do try and stay positive, you've done really well so far, with the weight loss but also your training!

Diet wise, I've had a full English this morning, and last night was steak and ale pie and chips. The pubs/cafes here tend to be of the 'stodge' variety it seems. I have been eating sensibly at the Airbnb, had brought some food with us so all is not lost, plus have been out cycling and walking every day. Not sure the exercise is enough to offset the extra food but I'm working on my cardio fitness at least!
