Losing a couple of kg support thread

GetYourHandOut · 28/04/2024 15:36

I'm blaming the shite weather rather than the biscuits but I'm still in my winter phase and am at the top end of my usual weight range.

I'd like to lose a couple of kg to feel more comfortable and confident as summer (hopefully) approaches.

Does anyone want to join me for a support and accountability thread?

Well done @Defrump

I'm back on track after my emotional eating slump. We've got more social eating stuff at the weekend so I'm kind of resigning myself to just trying to vaguely maintain at the moment.

This thread is definitely helping my accountability though.

@everycowandagain can you jot down the little victories to remind yourself, for a morale boost? Something I did the other week, a bit strange maybe, I weighed a few foods from the cupboard, tins etc, just on the kitchen scales, until it added up to the weight I'd lost so far, and showed my (patient!) DP who was dutifully impressed. That spurred me on.

RamaSita · 14/06/2024 00:13

Well done @Defrump. And what's this cinnamon tea witchcraft?! Sounds painless and therefore too good to be true!

RamaSita · 14/06/2024 00:18

That's a very kind offer @Eyesopenwideawake although not for me thanks, my problem is liking lots of different sweet treats! Fortunately I think once I start cutting down on sugar, particularly chocolate, I get the cravings less.

@Proteinpud holiday sounds healthy and balanced! Lots of protein in that full English no doubt Smile

Defrump · 14/06/2024 08:39

@RamaSita I know, it sounds too good to be true
Cinnamon is supposed to be good at lowering blood sugar levels so my thinking is, when I go on holiday for example, and won't be able to stick to my usual low carbing, I will eat like the rest of the family but ensure I have a cup of cinnamon tea straight after. Plus go for a 20 min walk. Hopefully that would help minimise any huge weight gain.
I won't know until I try it tho but it sounds like a plan!
Weight this morning 54.9kg

everycowandagain · 14/06/2024 12:36

@RamaSita you are right, I need to remember how much I have achieved and not let my plateau derail me.

It's frustrating but I will keep at it for the next 3 weeks (apart from tomorrow when I have a family party...!).

I really don't want to drop my calories, I am at about 1650 now and that's low enough, I am in a deficit for sure. I am going to make sure I am doing as much extra movement as possible and I am going to hang in there....

Eyesopenwideawake · 15/06/2024 08:31

62.9kg and 28.8% fat this morning - despite an evening of pizza and banana cake!!

GetYourHandOut · 15/06/2024 08:44

That's a good result @Eyesopenwideawake!

I've maintained this week which is very fair after falling face first into a trough on Monday.

I'm 0.75-1kg away from my ultimate target but it's not feeling particularly obtainable at the moment.

However, I'm feeling pretty good and maybe maintaining here might be more realistic. We'll see.

Well done @GetYourHandOut

Last day of holiday today, walked or cycled a total of 90km in the last five days, have been hungry as anything so have eaten plenty, but will see once I'm back whether there's any impact. It's been a good mental break though, and good for my fitness so I'm happy with it. Whilst I've enjoyed some treats, I haven't had any points where I've eaten to excess 'because I'm on holiday' (no full size tube of pringles!) so I'm pleased with that too.

BogRollBOGOF · 16/06/2024 11:05

Yesterday was a mixed bag. DH had emerged from the supermarket yesterday and there's a limit to how much temptation one can resist.

But I also made a homemade curry with lots of wholesome ingedients. Rather than rice which stodges me then leaves me hungry, I did a roasted chick pea salad for the first time. Probably not the last either! 😋
At least there was healthy food in there, and I've definitely covered my 30 plants.

Still no obvious progress but I feel a bit less bloaty.

everycowandagain · 16/06/2024 11:21

Glad you are feeling good @GetYourHandOut

@ProteinPud your active break sounds wonderful! I actually still lost weight on my weekend away a couple of weeks ago because we were walking so much even though I was not tracking food (although I didn't go nuts with food). A break from tracking can be really good too.

@BogRollBOGOF I bet your roasted chickpea salad was delicious.

I had a family party yesterday and I ate all the food and drank all the drinks. Actually only up half a pound today and I am hoping it will jolt my body out of this plateau. My goal date is two weeks on Thursday so I plan to be strict with food from here on in, and get lots of extra movement so I can get as close to my target weight as possible. Really pleased with the muscle definition I can see though!!

SmallestSheepdogforTeenySheep · 16/06/2024 12:35

Thanks for being here! Just knowing you’re here has helped me. I had an emotional day yesterday and ate badly, but I was aware that’s what I was doing and didn’t go overboard. I’ve lost 3lb and think the next 3 or 4 will take longer but that’s ok.

everycowandagain · 16/06/2024 12:56

Sending you lots of support @SmallestSheepdogforTeenySheep!! Be kind to yourself. And yes it takes a lot of patience too!!

Defrump · 16/06/2024 16:51

Struggling today
Don't know if it's boredom, lack of energy or what but snacking constantly today and eating non low carb to boot 🙀
I don't know if I'm done with keto now and returning to my usual WOE
I certainly feel woeful

Proteinpud · 16/06/2024 17:49

Sending strength @Defrump and @SmallestSheepdogforTeenySheep ! @Defrump I think it's recommended to take a break from low carb/keto every now and then? You've done really well so far, so try not to be too hard on yourself!

@everycowandagain thanks. I've eaten pretty badly today - sweets on the drive back and ready meals for tea, so quite high calorie. But it was really nice to move that much over the last week, instead of being behind a desk. Hoping to keep up some of the cycling/walking inspiration now I'm home.
Glad your family party went well and that you were able to enjoy it - good luck for the next two weeks!

GetYourHandOut · 17/06/2024 08:04

Morning lovely people.

I hope everyone has a good start to their week. It's nice and sunny here today, which lifts the mood.

We had lunch out for Father's Day yesterday and I chose wisely with a delicious salad, chips as a side and then pudding at home - incredible brownies my children made. Yum!

Progress at last! A gigantuan 1lb and a cm off here and there Grin

I need to draw up my log for the week, that's helping me keep focused and I have managed the 30 plants for the last 2 weeks. It's a bit harder now DH is back in the equation- it's another layer of can't eat- won't eat to play. With the DCs it was easier for portions to do something for them then something for me. I wish DH liked fish!

I think it's a genuine loss as there's nothing indicative of changes in water retention and those cm are off where I'd expect to see it first. I am feeling slightly different too. I want to lose enough to stop chaffing all over when I run!

Defrump · 17/06/2024 08:53

Morning all!
Sadly it's grey here
Weight is 55.3kg but could be worse as I ate a lot of non low carb yesterday. Today is a fresh week tho so upwards-or downwards on the scale- we go

SaggyOldClothDog · 17/06/2024 09:30

@Defrump It's grey here too today and going by my hair frizz, there's a lot of moisture in the air😂.

My weekly average is down a massive 100g 🤦 at 70.9kg but my first week back at work was spent mainly running on cortisol, as I tried to get caught up, so no great surprise there (cortisol invariably leads to food!).

Hopefully this week will be better. Have had a breakfast of yoghurt, kefir, nuts, seeds and fruit with a cup of green tea so am feeling quite virtuous (for now) .

This week, so the aim will definitely be less sugar (helpfully i think I've finished off most of my favourite treats at home 😂 so now I just need to not buy any more...).

RamaSita · 17/06/2024 09:38

Good to read and catch up, thanks everyone for the updates. Helps feel less alone with this stuff! Argh it's not been a good week overall. Stopped jotting down what I'm eating, didnt prep anything in advance, been waiting for my period and since it arrived I've had various treats and alcohol and not really bothered with portion control. Looking back I did resist the odd thing here and there so I suppose it could have been worse. Gutted to see I'm back to what I weighed about a month ago - 71.9kg. My starting weight on 6 May was 73kg. Am still on my period so praying that there's a whole kilo of water retention and if I really stay on track this week maybe the scales will be better next Monday. Major fly in the ointment is a long weekend away at the end of this week, I would have liked to enjoy eating out and having some drinks but perhaps not now. Need to harness the sunshine and feel back in control and optimistic. Good luck for this week everyone!

GetYourHandOut · 17/06/2024 11:24

@RamaSita I can easily randomly fluctuate up by more than a kg, so don't be disheartened.

OP posts:
Proteinpud · 17/06/2024 12:02

Weekly weigh in, 60.9. Third of a kilo higher than last week, so could be fluctuation or a slight increase with my holiday. Still pretty much at my starting weight though... Going to try and eat well but not going to stress about deficit for the next week or two as starting a new job next week and don't want to be adding undue pressure. Will re-evaluate once settled in! Will be aiming to keep up all the good habits, so focusing on extra veg/fruit/protein.

RamaSita · 17/06/2024 14:45

Thanks @GetYourHandOut. Yes, if it's a blip that's fine. I'm not sure.
Felt the urge after lunch to just say 'fuck it' and eat all the treats but I didn't.
What are people having for dinner? Veg chilli here.

RamaSita · 17/06/2024 14:52

@Proteinpud ah see you're in a similar boat in terms of two steps forward one step back. Sounds like your attitude towards it is very healthy though. Exciting about the new job!
