As the above title says.

I'm sure some of you recognise my username cause I used to head up some monthly threads. Anyway, to cut a long story short I'm on Tamoxifen following having breast cancer and my weight is going up. Its my own fault, I eat too much when I'm in the wrong mood, obsessed with snacks and sweet stuff blah blah blah. The only way I can normally lose weight is by just cutting down a bit, cause as soon as I tell myself I'm on a diet, I just panic about being hungry and want junk. I'm aiming to lose 8 pounds by the Summer.

My plan is to increase my steps and carry on doing my Get Fit with Rick workouts and to eat more mindfully, aiming to eat less overall but definitely less junk. Would love some company, cause this approach really helped me when I lost some weight in 2020.

@Octopus45 thanks - saw the consultant yesterday - I have peri-osteoporosis so have to take vitamin D, exercise daily and eat cheese (or milk, but he prefers cheese !)

I suppose the exercise will balance the cheese-eating.

Once a week we (me and husband) spend a day cutting wood for next winter - cut, stack, clear branches etc. So that's several hours of exercise - which is a good thing, but unfortunately I'm now ravenous.

According to the 'science', exercise is good for maintaining weight loss and keeping healthy but not so good for losing weight - as I have found.

BarrysTeaForMe · 28/02/2024 21:24

Hi @PurplePositivity I do some yoga too. Nothing challenging but I really like it. I'm still sticking to the new routine of three meals no snacks and feeling good in myself. I think I started last Thursday so that's a week tomorrow. Time will tell if it's enough to drop a bit of weight. I'll weigh myself at the end of March.

Hoglet70 · 29/02/2024 06:49

Plodding on thanks @PurplePositivity. I really need some sunshine to give me a boost I think.

Octopus45 · 29/02/2024 07:43

@PurplePositivity baby steps are great. I love doing a bit of exercise in the morning on the days when I have time. Eating here is so so, I'm not weighing at the moment cause tmi but I'm struggling with constipation, think its cause of the medication I'm on, despite eating all the right things. Sorry, gross I know. I'm having to focus on just eating healthily but not doing too badly with exercise.

@Octopus45 I have the same issue. Makes it very disheartening when you want to get on the scales but you know your bowels haven't moved for a week!
I have IBS so in some respects the medication is a blessing but feeling fat and bloated from it is meh.

NeverForgiveMyself · 29/02/2024 09:01

5 hours dragging wood, and I have put weight on!
I really have to cut out at least one of the 4 treats I have a day:

Square of lindt at lunch
15g of crisps with
1 glass of wine (aperos it's called over here)
Small cake after dinner

I never snack outside of meals, and supper is long gone. No breakfast either now.
I suppose if I don't have aperos, then that's 2 treats gone. Might try that today....
Good luck all.

Morning all.

I had a drop down in weight yesterday and today. I know I shouldn't put too much emphasis on this as the most important thing is how I feel. But the truth is, it is motivating.

I've got a day off today so I'm going to the gym and then running errands ahead of a family party we're doing this weekend.

Octopus45 · 01/03/2024 08:02

@Hoglet70 that sounds difficult. I'm now on Tamoxifen and think the sluggishness might be a side effect, cause if anything I was the opposite before. Feel better today. Was 9st3.75 this morning so I'll take that.

Well done @HelpMeOutOfHere

@NeverForgiveMyself good to know that cheese is the preferred calcium product to eat. I hate milk, but do eat cheese most days. I worry a bit about cholesterol and calories, but sounds as if its the right thing.

@NeverForgiveMyself meant to say, thanks for the podcast recommendation. Will watch it over the weekend.

I did forget to say though, that my consultant is French, so he's bound to prefer cheese to milk. Still with about 1200 cheeses to choose from, I had better get cracking!

How's your weekend been everyone?

We had a family birthday celebration today so that means cake and party food. I only picked at bits rather than diving in face first, as I haven't been feeling 100%.

Hoglet70 · 04/03/2024 06:45

@HelpMeOutOfHere hope you're feeling better soon, it's not nice to behave because you feel yuk.

My weekend was quiet. We did have some pizza and wine on Friday night (that's our weekly treat whilst we're trying to lose weight) but the rest of the weekend went to plan.

Not2bObvious · 04/03/2024 08:02

I'd like to join in if I may? I've had a creep of many pounds over the last few years and finding it increasingly difficult to shift it. I've tried lots of things even paying €250 for a 10 week program that was too restrictive, seems super simple on paper but I just couldn't stick to it. I've managed to cut back my alcohol and junk consumption since christmas & was seeing modest losses, but had a parent pass away in the last week & that's knocked me off my routine a lot. I didn't go mad but had a week of more takeaways & sugar than was good for me. So I would really like to join in with some like minded folk who aren't going too hard but are giving it a good go. Sorry for the waffle, off to eat a high'ish protein breakfast in the hope it'll keep me full, and then will go for a walk. Not fully back in work so I have a couple of days to relax into it

BarrysTeaForMe · 04/03/2024 09:13

Hi @Not2bObvious welcome to the thread. I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your parent. Be kind to yourself. I can understand about the creep of pounds. I let myself slide into a couple of habits that I'm knocking on the head that caused my weight to creep up.

I had a nice weekend. Yesterday we had a birthday celebration at a restaurant. I had an early breakfast, then dinner which was main course and dessert and wine. Birthday cake later on with one glass of prosecco. Nothing after that until breakfast while ago. I'm back to three meals no snacks and no alcohol up to Friday night as it's my dd's birthday then. Have a good week everyone.

Octopus45 · 04/03/2024 19:28

@Not2bObvious sorry to hear about your parent. Take care of yourself

Thanks for the welcome, managed pretty ok today - now just need to do it tomorrow and so on. Got a decent walk in too and high'ish protein, cals on the low side but I won't be able to keep that up for more than a day or two. Planning a day ahead on meals, so far so good. Scales was as expected this morning, not quite my highest but pretty unpleasant to see. Have a mini break coming up in less than 2 weeks and could do with a pound or two of bloat disappearing

PurplePositivity · 04/03/2024 21:51

Hi all

Measuring day again for me, another inch of my belly and half an inch from my waist & hips!

I'm well pleased, fell off the wagon on Friday but back to 16:8 and 70k steps over the week.

BarrysTeaForMe · 04/03/2024 22:30

Well done PurplePositivity! Great news.

Not2bObvious · 05/03/2024 07:28

That's a brilliant inch loss purple, you'll feel that in your clothes, well done!
Scales down a couple of pounds this morning, just water weight from all the convenience food but I guess that's good, might mean yesterdays scary weight wasn't a true representation of how much actual damage I did. Breakfast is over 30gr of protein so with luck it'll keep me going. Have a good day all!

HelpMeOutOfHere · 05/03/2024 07:48

Thank you @Hoglet70

Well done @PurplePositivity !!!

Octopus45 · 05/03/2024 07:56

Sounds as if everyone is doing really well. I'm eating quite a lot of healthy stuff here, but probably too much overall. Feel quite bloated so haven't been on the scales since Friday. Managed over 10,000 steps yesterday.

OP posts:
Hoglet70 · 05/03/2024 08:16

I thought I was doing well then got on the scales and I've gained 1.5lb. It is TOTM but I did have a bit of a strop anyway! That will serve me right for getting on the scales when I know it is not the right time.

BarrysTeaForMe · 05/03/2024 08:18

I'm reading 'How to Eat and Still Lose Weight' by Andrew Jenkinson. I liked the NOVA chart of what foods to eat and what to avoid, based on how processed they are. I'll put it here in case anyone is interested.

Is anyone up for a gentle weight loss thread?
HelpMeOutOfHere · 05/03/2024 12:11

HelpMeOutOfHere · 19/02/2024 07:40

Right, I'm 66.3kg this morning.

I'd like to lose a couple of kg to get back down to 64kg.

If I can get there by easter, that'll be great but I've got no set timescale.

I definitely want to take a gentle approach, being kind and caring to myself rather than restricting.

I'm 64.6kg this week, which I'm really pleased about 🙌

I feel so much better in myself.

CliffsofMohair · 05/03/2024 19:24

Well done ladies
