As the above title says.

I'm sure some of you recognise my username cause I used to head up some monthly threads. Anyway, to cut a long story short I'm on Tamoxifen following having breast cancer and my weight is going up. Its my own fault, I eat too much when I'm in the wrong mood, obsessed with snacks and sweet stuff blah blah blah. The only way I can normally lose weight is by just cutting down a bit, cause as soon as I tell myself I'm on a diet, I just panic about being hungry and want junk. I'm aiming to lose 8 pounds by the Summer.

My plan is to increase my steps and carry on doing my Get Fit with Rick workouts and to eat more mindfully, aiming to eat less overall but definitely less junk. Would love some company, cause this approach really helped me when I lost some weight in 2020.

Yes. I need to lose some weight.

I'm 50 and on HRT. I'm a shortie.
A shortie with a belly. I think the mirena coil didn't help but that could be an excuse. I definitely feel hungry a lot of the time.
I'm going to try intermittent fasting again. Did the Fast 800 before which is good but it's hard. Most importantly I'm going to cut out snacks and that means no chocolate. Even though chocolate goes so well with a cup of tea ...sigh...

Sending good wishes to those of you who are recovering from cancer 💐

I'm 60 and retired and finding it very hard to lose weight, I need to lose around a stone but I used to walk to work so that bit of exercise has stopped. I've since been diagnosed with arthritis in my knee so joining walking groups is out of the question, I've joined the local gym and really enjoy going but when I come home, I've found my knee and the fronts of my shins are sore.
I eat sensibly and cook everything from scratch and only have a sweet treat a couple of times a week.
I'm lucky if I lose the occasional pound and it's starting to get me down.
Any help appreciated.

See my above post about brown rice and tinned sardines, pimped a bit.

You might also benefit from a weekly fast, say pick an easy day and try to last until 6.30pm or 7pm with no food. Start off just not eating - though green tea and black coffee is okay - and make it to noon first, see how you feel.

Evening all!

Pretty good day for me today... I say that with bated breath, as I am about to enter the witching hour when all I want to do is either drink wine or eat something "nice"!!

1450cal, over 18k steps & have just finished a bootcamp class. So I am suitably knackered! 😴

I'm definitely finding that skipping breakfast & eating a larger lunch is helping me to control my calories & also leaves me with enough wriggle room for an evening treat... namely a freddo or curly whirly with a cup of tea. Though this is only day 2 & I haven't reached the weekend yet, when all self control goes out the window!!

PurplePositivity · 20/02/2024 21:00

Haven't quite managed my 10k steps today, as I've been in back to back meetings. However I've done 7.5k which isn't too bad unless I've been gesticulating too much Grin

Maybe I'll try for 10k a day but count the total at the end of the week, so I can make up if needed.

Managed to only eat within my window which is a win & I've just done some on line quick exercises for weight loss and fat burning.

@NeverForgiveMyself thank you, that's interesting. Do you freeze it in a glass jar with the lid on? Or a different kind of container?

Yes, I always use a glass jar with a screw-on lid. They tend to take 1 largish glass each. They are just part of my glass jar stash that I use for freezing stuff!

Octopus45 · 22/02/2024 13:30

@NewspaperTaxis I'm taking the same stance, trying to downplay it, my head jumps from diet to starve in one fell swoop.I went to a funeral yesterday and had a pint and lots of cake at the wake, didn't quite manage my steps. Have nearly done my steps for today.

@NeverForgiveMyself is it red or white wine you freeze in portions? Does it taste ok when it thaws? I freeze wine to use in cooking but I've never used it for drinking before and I'm intrigued!

It's good to read everyone's updates.

I really wouldn't! You can buy one glass bottles in all supermarkets. They are a much better idea. Or buy a box and measure out what you want to allow yourself. Trust me (was in the wine industry for years) freezing to drink is not something you want to do.

ColleenDonaghy · 22/02/2024 16:29

I'm still struggling with snacking, but it's reduced a bit. Have made it to the gym.

BarrysTeaForMe · 22/02/2024 16:38

I'm doing okay with meals and no snacks so far (day two). I'm going to hold off weighing myself for the moment until I've been doing it a while. I've stopped drinking alcohol except for one drink on Friday night.

Triceratopmeup · 22/02/2024 16:55

I've been doing well so far, until today! I went to visit my Mum which a 100mile found trip & managed to eat a whole bag of tangfastics during the drive! 🐽
Just had an early dinner & then shall hopefully redeem myself by going to my bootcamp class tonight.

HelpMeOutOfHere · 22/02/2024 20:38

I ate way too much chocolate today @Triceratopmeup so I'll join you on the 🐽 front!

But I'm not going to beat myself up about it. These things happen and I'll just move on with my day!

QueenMabby · 22/02/2024 20:40

Weigh in day for me tomorrow. I've eaten lots today. I did a bootcamp class this morning and it always makes me sooo hungry! I'll be happy if I've maintained this week to be honest.

Triceratopmeup · 22/02/2024 21:19

@HelpMeOutOfHere 100%... fresh start tomorrow.

Triceratopmeup · 22/02/2024 21:37

@QueenMabby I'm exactly the same after a bootcamp, absolutely starving!
If I do a morning class then I'm hungry all day & if I do an evening class I wake up absolutely famished the next morning.

QueenMabby · 23/02/2024 07:23

Well, I've PUT ON 0.4lb. I've not been tracking my calories but I think I'm going to have to as I obviously have no clue as to how much I'm actually eating. How depressing!

Octopus45 · 23/02/2024 08:06

Weighed in this morning and I'm down 3 pounds, know that's a false reading though cause I weighed myself after having a piggy couple of days last weekend. Will take the true loss as one pound, but pleased with that. Would say that I've been slightly better this week, although I did have some fruit crumble last night, just a bit less food overall. Hope everyone has a good weekend.

@QueenMabby if you've been exercising more then initially you may gain weight due to your muscles retaining water.

I'm holding off until next Friday to do my 1st weigh in. Though the temptation is killing me!

@Octopus45 well done 👏

@Octopus45 well done 👏

No extra exercise @Triceratopmeup - just extra calories somewhere!

Hoglet70 · 24/02/2024 11:12

Bit of a fail last night - pizza and wine. It was nice though. I feel like I'm starving myself at the moment so I really enjoyed it. Might give me a reset, you never know.

Haven't weighed myself since 1st Feb so will be interesting to see how I'm doing when I finally get on the scales.

HelpMeOutOfHere · 24/02/2024 14:51

I'm doing pretty terribly 😂. Ate shit loads yesterday as had friends round for drinks (and snacks 🙄).

But it's good to read about the successes! Well done those who are eating well.

Triceratopmeup · 24/02/2024 18:17

Bit of a similar situation at my end too! Haven't tracked my calories since Thursday, but I haven't really overindulged. Though I am currently watching the rugby with a glass of wine in my hand!

Went to bootcamp this morning & I'm hitting over 10k steps everyday, so hopefully that should minimise the damage 🙈

HelpMeOutOfHere · 24/02/2024 19:34

I'm embarrassed to say I most definitely have overindulged 😬

I need to get my head back in the game. I came on my period yesterday so that's probably part of it.

BarrysTeaForMe · 24/02/2024 20:00

I did okay today, I think. Three good meals, no snacking. I ignored the crisps. I didn't have chocolate with tea or coffee. I usually don't eat after my evening meal so I'm done now until tomorrow morning. I will weigh myself before Easter at the end of March and see where I'm at. I would like to get to under nine stone as I'm only hobbit sized at less than five foot tall.

AntiHop · 24/02/2024 20:04

Joining in. I'm also in my 40s. Exhausted from a toddler who hates sleep and an exhausting job, so I haven't got thr energy to do anything drastic. I'm not weighing myself as I find it too depressing. But I'm aiming to make better choices.

Toomuchgoingon79 · 25/02/2024 06:44

I've just completed a food shop online, trying to go healthy I.e swooping white for wholemeal pasta and bread, brown rice, low cal options, etc. didn't realise how high in salt some food stuff were until I was checking.

However I'm determined to sort this beach ball in the front of me! I swear I'm bigger than when I was pregnant 🤦‍♀️.

Does anyone have any suggestions for good places for recipes for healthy, low calorie food that doesn't require 100 ingredients but is suitable for the whole family? TIA
