As the above title says.

I'm sure some of you recognise my username cause I used to head up some monthly threads. Anyway, to cut a long story short I'm on Tamoxifen following having breast cancer and my weight is going up. Its my own fault, I eat too much when I'm in the wrong mood, obsessed with snacks and sweet stuff blah blah blah. The only way I can normally lose weight is by just cutting down a bit, cause as soon as I tell myself I'm on a diet, I just panic about being hungry and want junk. I'm aiming to lose 8 pounds by the Summer.

My plan is to increase my steps and carry on doing my Get Fit with Rick workouts and to eat more mindfully, aiming to eat less overall but definitely less junk. Would love some company, cause this approach really helped me when I lost some weight in 2020.

Late to party , but can I join ? I’m 62 , have piled on weight since a hysterectomy, but that was 6 yrs ago ! So can’t use that as my excuse anymore 🤦‍♀️ my happy size is 12 but to be honest 14s are snug . I carry most of my chub on my bum and thighs … not a good look ! I’m currently on holiday, we’ve just herd that our boat ( that we board today )is quarantined, so god knows where we’ll end up 🤷‍♀️when we get home I’m joining a tiny gym that , I think , is aimed at fat old birds like me 🤣. My downfall is if I don’t eat my temperament drops off a cliff . My plan is take overnight oats to work , and a something for lunch . Stopping me getting hungry and just buying a cheese sandwich and crisps ( would live on these given the chance ) were veggie so lots of cheese in all its forms in our diet. I threw out the scales years ago and am doing ( or will be ) this by eye . We’re 5 days in to our holiday, it’s idilic , like death in paradise, rumour has it that our boat has cholera 😳! So not so great 🤣. O well I’m rambling, putting off packing up . Good luck all xx

I've just completed a food shop online, trying to go healthy I.e swooping white for wholemeal pasta and bread, brown rice, low cal options, etc. didn't realise how high in salt some food stuff were until I was checking.

However I'm determined to sort this beach ball in the front of me! I swear I'm bigger than when I was pregnant 🤦‍♀️.

Does anyone have any suggestions for good places for recipes for healthy, low calorie food that doesn't require 100 ingredients but is suitable for the whole family? TIA

BBC Good Food online is a good resource for healthy recipes but honestly if you just cook plenty of vegetables with every main meal and put those on your plate first that will help. Aim for half a plate of non starchy veg then 1/4 each for the protein and starchy carbs.

Last night I made a highly calorific braised belly pork dish. I had mainly savoy cabbage and green beans with a small portion of brown rice and a small portion of the casserole. It was still delicious.

If you're doing a pasta dish then make a salad to go alongside. Just keep adding veg to everything and your meals will be naturally lower in calories.

Meant to add - I'm out for lunch today. Three courses. I'm not going to deny myself anything I really want but will ask myself if it's worth it. Will try and avoid bread and will load up with vegetables first before roar potatoes etc. I'll be driving so no alcohol which will also help.

QueenMabby · 25/02/2024 07:30

Roast. Not roar obviously!

Hoglet70 · 25/02/2024 09:21

@Popetthetreehugger don't drink the water!!!!!
(Another one here who could live on cheese sandwich and crisps by the way!)

QueenMabby · 25/02/2024 16:15

Oooof. I've just eaten a massive lunch! Three courses. Dd and I had the "chicken to share" as our main. It was a whole chicken! Even without being mumsnetty about it, it would have fed four. We boxed up the leftovers and I've popped them in the fridge. Currently making stock with the carcass!

Don't think I'll be eating again today....

NeverForgiveMyself · 25/02/2024 16:52

@QueenMabby , I'm with you re the meals, I have just replaced (nearly all) the potatoes with more veg and my diet went quite well, although the last few pounds I want to lose seem to be sticking around.

I've also stopped giving myself the same sized portion as the one my husband has, I'm 80% of his weight, so I should really have 80% of his food (well not his food obvs)

Oh and I had good news (clear scan) on Thurs so have celebrated a bit too much. So I am 0.2lbs down since last Sunday. Oh well. Better down than up!

Octopus45 · 25/02/2024 17:54

I haven't done very well the last couple of days to be honest. Not enough steps, been a bit under the weather with a cold. I'm having a pie for dinner tonight, but I am having it with lots of broccoli and cauliflower, although I have roasted it.

QueenMabby · 25/02/2024 18:28

Mmmmm @Octopus45 I love roasted cauliflower and broccoli!

@NeverForgiveMyself - good news on the clear scan. Definitely deserves a bit of celebration.

MsAnnFrope · 25/02/2024 19:20

Me please! I’m like a lot of pp on here, restriction makes me rebel. I am allowing myself small amounts of chocolate (my absolute downfall) but otherwise trying to eat a good balance of veg, healthy carbs and plenty of protein. I’ve essentially stopped drinking most weeks. I’m aiming for 15 kg off and have lost 2kg since mid Jan so my goal is to have lost most by the end of 2024.
I’m perimenopausal so trying to build muscle and get more flexible. Building my fit old lady body not my beach body!

PurplePositivity · 25/02/2024 20:46

Measuring day for me tomorrow, I don't weigh myself as I get fixated so I'm going for measurements.

Ive stuck to the 16:8 all week, which is a first for me so very pleased with myself. Didn't manage 10k daily steps but I've done just over 81k over the week.

I've got loads of clothes which don't quite fit me, to get into them is my goal!

Octopus45 · 25/02/2024 21:29

@NeverForgiveMyself good news about your scan.

1 inch lost round my belly button and half in inch on my waist and hips 🎉

Hoglet70 · 26/02/2024 06:37

@PurplePositivity That's excellent!

HelpMeOutOfHere · 26/02/2024 11:11

Well done on the successes - whether that is a positive scan result, weight lost or measurements decreasing 🙌

I had a more normal eating day yesterday and felt much better for it.

Life feels pretty up and down at the moment with SEN children, puberty and school struggles. I know eating well helps keep my mood more even, so I need to focus on that.

Rennypie03 · 26/02/2024 18:05

Can I join in? Im 43 and suffer with persistent hunger!! I dont know what to do and its driving me to tearssss. I have 15kg to lose. HELP. what can I do about the hunger?

BarrysTeaForMe · 26/02/2024 18:15

Hello @Rennypie03 I'm doing three meals no snacking. Protein in every meal. No added sugar. I'm feeling a lot better since I'm breaking the sugar craving cycle. I'm 50 and menopausal. I think cravings got worse since I went into peri.

Hoglet70 · 26/02/2024 19:22

@Rennypie03 Low Carb/Keto is very good for killing hunger. My DH swears by it. I personally love carbs too much but he gets good results when he does it properly.

QueenMabby · 26/02/2024 20:10

This is my psyche. When I was putting away the groceries this morning I found a bar of dark chocolate (100g) in the back of the cupboard. It's been on my mind all day. This evening I've eaten the lot to "get rid" of it and so I can't eat it tomorrow. Why do I do this?

Thank you. You reminded me! I need to STOP snacking and east protein

Very very important! 😁
I'm telling myself "don't feed the sugar monster!'

JamieNotJames · 28/02/2024 14:10

Haven't checked in for a while, but I'm doing pretty well.

I'm continuing the couch to 5k 3x per week and upping my daily steps by going for walks in my lunch breaks or after work.

I'm eating normally but have cut right back on the snacks and biscuits! I'm still having my wine and nice treats at the weekend though! 😁

4610J · 28/02/2024 14:25

Hi,

I think I was meant to find this thread.

I want to lose 7 to 14 lbs for the Summer. I've just looked up Get Fit with Rick and I'm going to do his workouts. I'm more likely to do these at home rather than go to an actual class.

I'm going to read the whole thread now.

PurplePositivity · 28/02/2024 18:24

Mid week check in - how's everyone doing?

I'm adding in an app I've found, 7 minutes of exercise every morning so I'm doing the menopause yoga & daily routine - 14 mins in total. See if that makes any difference, I know it's not a huge amount but baby steps & all that!

HelpMeOutOfHere · 28/02/2024 18:36

Thanks for the midweek check in @PurplePositivity

I've had a more settled few days eating-wise and feel better for it.
