As the above title says.

I'm sure some of you recognise my username cause I used to head up some monthly threads. Anyway, to cut a long story short I'm on Tamoxifen following having breast cancer and my weight is going up. Its my own fault, I eat too much when I'm in the wrong mood, obsessed with snacks and sweet stuff blah blah blah. The only way I can normally lose weight is by just cutting down a bit, cause as soon as I tell myself I'm on a diet, I just panic about being hungry and want junk. I'm aiming to lose 8 pounds by the Summer.

My plan is to increase my steps and carry on doing my Get Fit with Rick workouts and to eat more mindfully, aiming to eat less overall but definitely less junk. Would love some company, cause this approach really helped me when I lost some weight in 2020.

Morning all!

I put on a fair bit of weight last year, couldn't exercise in the summer due to surgery/radiotherapy so I was at my heaviest. I've lost 10 lbs since then, but have another 6 to go. My son is getting married in June and I want to be a size 12 again!

I love wine and chocolate, life it too short to give them up (for me anyway), so what has worked for me is, per day:

I square of lovely Lindt chocolate (my favourite at the moment is their crème brulé) as my 'pudding'
1 glass of really nice wine. I freeze the rest in jars (one glass per jar) - sacrilege I know, but it works, it does freeze well and I try very very hard to only get one out per day

If course I fail in this (which is why it is taking so long), but it's only one day, and the next day I start again.

Anyone else got any tips that work?

ColleenDonaghy · 19/02/2024 10:03

Can I join? I have 3 stone to lose ideally, but I'd be delighted with one to start with. I'm hopeless at dieting so need to focus on making slow changes. For now, I'm trying to stop snacking during the day as well as getting back to the gym.

Triceratopmeup · 19/02/2024 12:37

So I've started today with a massive 3 egg omelette, full of veggies & cooked in butter. All weighed & accounted for on MFP & this came in at 605cals. I'm aiming to eat around 1500cals a day & spread this out between lunch, dinner & a biscuit with my evening cup of tea.
I've a weights class to go to & also a dog walk planned for later on.
I've decided that my weigh in day will be Fridays & I'm not weighing myself until 1st March.
We've got this ladies 💪

QueenMabby · 19/02/2024 15:08

I've had porridge with fruit for breakfast and a typically Mumsnet massive salad (albeit with feta and olives) for lunch. I'm trying not to log my food as that tends to make me under eat and feel woozy and dizzy so I'm sticking to 1 or 2 similar options for breakfast and lunch where I've a rough idea of calories and then will try and regulate my portion at dinner.

Did a 30 minute brisk walk at lunchtime today.

The problem I have at the moment is that whereas exercise used to give me a boost, now if I do anything too strenuous I just flake. It makes me sooo tired. I normally do a bootcamp class once a week and by lunchtime on that day I'm falling asleep! I don't know of that's a perimenopause thing, a long Covid thing (I've had Covid three times but not severely) or something else. I want to get back into exercise but need to find a way to do this sustainably.

Happyface246 · 19/02/2024 15:15

Can I join the gang too please? In 52, peri menopausal, 5’3 and not happy with how I look but lack the willpower and focus to do this on my own… eat way too much crap ….

crapatmakeup · 19/02/2024 15:22

I’d like to join. I haven’t weighed myself for a few months but I know I won’t like it. I just want my clothes to fit better though.

I am going to try really hard not to snack. I am terrible for just overdoing the snacks. I’ll have one packed of crisps, think mmm these are so good then eat two more before my stomach even realises I’ve had the first!

Underthemagnificentbeechtree · 19/02/2024 17:00

I’d like to join! I actually have a lot to lose (30kg) but I know when weight loss is the goal I’ll go too far & lose in an unsustainable way and yo-yo.

My goal is general health and fitness - with weight loss presumably following. I know my kids want to do SUP and surf school this summer and I want to join in!

Also, I’m terrible between the clocks going back and about now as the evenings get lighter - I’d really like to go into next winter as fit as possible so that it’s not a huge ask to drag myself out for exercise in the darkness!

Peanutbutterismyjam · 19/02/2024 17:59

Hope everyone has had a good day so far.
I'm logged my food onto Nutracheck (already preferring it to MFP!) And coming in around 1400 cals, including some chocolate for later. I've eaten really well today too 🙂
Had a completely lazy day though, no exercise done!

Zimunya · 19/02/2024 18:08

I’m in too - thank you.

Respect and best wishes to those dealing with cancer.

TwoBigNoisyBoys · 19/02/2024 18:17

I had my PT session at 7am. Did an hour of arm and shoulder weight training. My PT mixes up weights and HIIT for me, and I have one session of that a week, while trying to fit it more sessions on my own, although they’re usually incline treadmill sessions for around 40 minutes.
So far today I have also have racked up 10,257 steps. Homemade vegetable soup with a roast beef sandwich on multi grain bread for lunch. It was so nice I’m having the same for dinner! Hope everyone has had a good day 😊

CliffsofMohair · 19/02/2024 19:25

Up 3lbs.
I love wine but it not love me

PurplePositivity · 19/02/2024 20:37

Evening everyone!

Started the day well, measured various parts of my body, round my belly button, thigh, waist and hips. I plan to re measure every Monday.

Plan for week 1 is - 16:8, eating between 11am and 7pm, logging my food and aiming for 10k daily steps🤞

Today 16k steps completed, food logged at 1500 calories & 700 'spare'.

pinkpip100 · 19/02/2024 21:15

Not the best day, but managed to fit in a decent walk and have (so far) avoided chocolate!!

Triceratopmeup · 19/02/2024 21:33

Logged just over 10k steps & completed day 1 of Alice Liveing's February weights challenge.
Foodwise, I'm just over 1100cals so far. Omelette for lunch & goats cheese, beetroot & walnut salad for dinner. I'm not doing 16:8, but trying to stick to a larger brunch/lunch & dinner each day. That leaves me enough room for a cup of tea & a treat to look forward to in the evening.

ColleenDonaghy · 19/02/2024 22:29

Evening all. Could've been better food wise today, but I did go to the gym this evening. Into the office tomorrow which is typically a more active, less snacky day.

Everleigh13 · 20/02/2024 07:39

I’d like to join please. I’m 5’5 and 11 stone. My happy weight is 9 stone 10. I had my second child last year and have gained weight since due to grabbing chocolate constantly. I feel really unhealthy and want to get back on track.

Good luck to everyone else!

QueenMabby · 20/02/2024 16:49

Did a Pilates class this morning and also went for a walk at lunchtime.

I'm not currently tracking calories but porridge with pb and banana for breakfast and another big salad for lunch. It's dh's birthday today so dinner is steak and chips. I'm going to have a tiny portion of chips only.

Tomorrow is going to be my tricky day as I'm in the office so not so many opportunities to get up and walk.

Octopus45 · 20/02/2024 17:34

Sounds as if everyone is doing really well. I'm sort of doing ok. Have managed 7949 steps today and will go for a dog walk later. Food wise I'm just trying to be more mindful. Feel as if I've randomly stuffing myself with crap. I'm cutting down on chocolate, crisps and crackers, actually haven't eaten any of those things since Saturday. I don't drink much anymore, cause it really doesn't suit me, I end up sleeping badly and feel awful the next day as well as extra hungry,

I'll weigh in on Friday to see how I'm doing. Was 9st6 on Monday morning. I ideally like to be about 9st or a bit under, although I only ever seem to manage under when I am really stressed or unwell.

QueenMabby · 20/02/2024 17:42

@Octopus45 - likewise. I used to sit comfortably just under 9st but I know that nowadays I'd have to diet aggressively to get down to that and I'm not sure that would be sustainable for me as I get older.

HelpMeOutOfHere · 20/02/2024 18:31

@NeverForgiveMyself is it red or white wine you freeze in portions? Does it taste ok when it thaws? I freeze wine to use in cooking but I've never used it for drinking before and I'm intrigued!

It's good to read everyone's updates.

NewspaperTaxis · 20/02/2024 18:39

I'm not exactly joining this but a) I'd avoid using the words 'diet' and 'weight loss' as they do seem to be a bit triggering, even if I am doing well with what I eat, those words give me gnawing hunger pangs and b) Just avoid starting triggering foods. Currently I'm on for brekkie of brown rice, bit of tinned sardines, bits of onion and red pepper and garlic chopped, and bit of broccoli. I start as I mean to go on. Start with anything else and it goes wrong. I have a boiled egg for lunch then the same as breakfast later on - rice, tinned fish etc. Avoid toast or bread if possible but I am having a slice with butter a day.

My point is, keep it simple if possible. I'm trying to downplay it rather than seeing it as a challenge or a hobby.

NeverForgiveMyself · 20/02/2024 18:57

@Octopus45 I'm a similar weight with a similar target, might not get there, but I'll see how I feel after a few more lbs off

I have realised that I am just as hungry at lunch whether I have eaten breakfast or not. So now I tend to fast until lunchtime (unless I'm doing something strenuous in the morning - or having a lovely weekend breakfast)

I haven't weighed myself since Sunday - I tend to do it first thing in the morning, when I'm at my lightest, so will do tomorrow.

I have a 45 minute walk each day with the dogs, that's my exercise - and that's fine for me - I tend to listen to podcasts as I walk, often (but not always) focussing on health and diet.

The one I listened to today was really interesting - Dr Micheal Moseley - Just One Long thing - on diet and health

If you have half an hour it gives a great (and scientific) insight into weight loss and exercise!

I freeze both red and white and tonight I had a lovely glass of defrosted St Emilion! I let it defrost naturally (normally I forget and have to microwave it - not as good).

There are dregs in the jar that I leave, which is interesting because I don't get dregs from unfrozen wine.

Only had one glass tonight - which is a win for me!

HelpMeOutOfHere · 20/02/2024 19:28

@NeverForgiveMyself thank you, that's interesting. Do you freeze it in a glass jar with the lid on? Or a different kind of container?

RaraRachael · 20/02/2024 19:37

I'm 60 and retired and finding it very hard to lose weight, I need to lose around a stone but I used to walk to work so that bit of exercise has stopped. I've since been diagnosed with arthritis in my knee so joining walking groups is out of the question, I've joined the local gym and really enjoy going but when I come home, I've found my knee and the fronts of my shins are sore.
I eat sensibly and cook everything from scratch and only have a sweet treat a couple of times a week.
I'm lucky if I lose the occasional pound and it's starting to get me down.
Any help appreciated.
