Need to lose 1 stone? Gather around....

Not sure if this will get any clicks, but I wondered if there are folks who need to lose about a stone or a bit this way or that who might want some accountability?

BTW When I say "need to lose a stone" this means basically a stone to get to your own, individual target (which could be a random number, a random BMI point, just anything).

For me - 1 stone off takes me to weight before conceiving Baby 1, and 1.2 stone off takes me to my lightest adult weight and a very comfy size 10-12 as opposed to a size 12-14. I have added motivation that a 40th birthday tails off 2024 for me, so I've got a deadline.

My downfall? Carbs. Salty carbs. My body absolutely magically loses if I cut out rice, pasta and potatoes. And yet, alas - it specifically is those that I crave.

Anyone want a loose accountability thread?

I think I’m back where I started. My jeans feel tight. I’ve had a friend stay and it’s involved lunches and dinners out. Strictly no carbs next week :(

TheDogdidGood · 05/04/2024 22:15

Going to give myself a severe kick up the backside. I have a significant birthday in three months time and I dress (that I bought a few years ago with the intention of losing weight!!!!) that I am determined to get into! So not only no carbs.. will also walk every day, do weights and cut out chocolate and reduce alcohol.

Boot camp!!!!

popplego · 06/04/2024 08:56

Hi all, I fell off the thread for a bit! I hope everyone is doing OK, it's helped reignite my motivation reading how you're all getting on.

I had a few weeks of lots of social occasions and wasn't as committed as I should've been, so my weight has stayed about the same for a few weeks now. However, I've realised that my holiday is now only 6 weeks away so I really need to get back in gear!

I've reduced my daily calories slightly to 1300 and am going to try and fit in an extra gym session each week, including a bit of cardio (which I never normally do). 6 week boot camp if you will! So close to having lost a full stone, I need to keep my focus now.

Starting again attempt number one fricken million.

I'm fully moisturised, looking towards summer and aiming to be much more together by then. No idea of my current weight, I plan to have a good week of sensible eating and weigh next Monday. Back to drinking a shot of ginger every morning, no idea if it really does anything physical but it makes me feel healthy and that encourages me to eat better.

It's still the holidays so my exercise routine is still disrupted, but I'm doing my best. Ran 10k yesterday and have been out three times this week.

I also bought the small trousers! I tried two different sizes a couple of months ago, bought the larger one, and by the time I wore it they were a little loose. Yesterday I saw them in the sale and I bought the smaller pair - slightly tight now but I think i only need to get back to where I was three weeks ago.

Let's do this!

CocktailQueenie · 07/04/2024 13:14

I am committing to this! Last day of alcohol/chocolate/rubbish, going to fill myself up with good food only, drink lots of water, exercise daily. I used to weigh around 7st (I am short) but realistically a stone heavier will do, just want to feel comfortable in clothes again and generally feel more confident.

SW 9st 2lb
GW 8st 2lb

Well done to all who have done so well so far, your posts are inspiring.

Me too @CocktailQueenie. Tomorrow is my re-set day.

SW: 10st 7lb
GW: 9 st 7lb

I already do 2x 1 hour PT sessions and daily 10k steps. Adding swimming once a week, plus going to try to run or do a short yoga sequence daily. No more rubbish eating and drinking lots of water as a start.

CocktailQueenie · 08/04/2024 07:18

Wishing you all a great week with bags of willpower!

Scottishskifun · 08/04/2024 08:51

Small loss for me this weigh in of 0.5lb so weight now is 10 stone 4lb.
Things definitely slowing down for me but keep looking back at my fitbit log to see how far I've come!

Passthepickle · 08/04/2024 22:18

Hello all.
ha ha just went for a run - had weeks off everything but once I am running the better behaviour will follow. Going to do some yoga in a min and will weight at the weekend . Maybe that will remove whatever horror might be seen in between!

CocktailQueenie · 09/04/2024 07:08

Morning all! Well, yesterday did aqua aerobics and weights, had a very large tuna salad for lunch then tomato soup with two bits of seeded bread. Drank sparkling water instead of gin/wine and it was ok. Had a great sleep too.

Wishing you all a fab day!

lisam78 · 10/04/2024 09:40

Another lb off - taken nearly a month (again!). CW now 10st 5lbs. 5lbs to get to target weight. I've done well exercise wise and eating healthy, and I've really reduced my alcohol intake. I haven't been tracking my calories, as I really wanted to have a lifestyle change that was sustainable for me, and inevitably I always end up forgetting to log calories and the weight slowly goes back on. Any suggestions on how I can speed up the weight loss? Thanks everyone for the updates- I don't post often, but I do read post regularly and find it very supportive and inspiring.

BarrelOfOtters · 10/04/2024 09:53

I've lost a stone since November. Not fast, but I thought If I do the same (ish) this year then by Christmas I should be 2 stone lighter than last Christmas. And that would be a win.

Partly I've been exercising more, but I don't think that's made the real difference.

I've been finding my off switches...

So no random drinking - the glass of wine on a midweek night, replaced by tea. Unless I'm meeting a friend or something that actually calls for a glass of wine.

I like a bit of cheese and biscuits of an evening after dinner - and now I think, that'll still be there tomorrow if you want it, and try and have it as part of a meal not a snack.

Eating more protein at breakfast and lunch so I don't get in from work starving and mindlessly snack till tea time.

Having a banana on me at all times...

Just ignoring the biscuits etc at work,

I want to eat nice, well cooked food, that I enjoy .... not shovel in snacks.

Anyway I'll check back in.

Scottishskifun · 11/04/2024 12:58

@lisam78 I have found the timings of my dinners makes the difference if I can eat before 6.30pm and not have any snacks after then I lose more and quicker.

I also found switching when I had more carbs made a difference so try to have some carbs at lunch and not too heavy a carb dinner but high protein dinner.

popplego · 12/04/2024 14:30

Hope everyone is having a good Friday Smile

I've finally broken the 9st barrier today! 8st13lb this morning, haven't been below 9st for years so I'm really pleased with myself. Now to keep the motivation going!

lisam78 · 12/04/2024 17:33

@Scottishskifun thanks for those tips- I'll give them a try.
Weighed myself today, and - shock- down to 10st 4lbs - after staying at 10st 6lbs for just over a month! This is the second time this has happened - not complaining, delighted as I haven't been this weight since 2017!

Passthepickle · 12/04/2024 17:38

Wow that is amazing (I haven’t been 8.13 since I was about 10😂).

I am 12.3 which is good because I started the week at 12.6. I am back on it. Have run or cycled every night and eaten far fewer crisps. I am planning to be in that BMI in 6 weeks. I haven’t been below 12 stone in 5 years and the bmi has been unknown for about 7 years. Have already had tea and am planning to have a large whiskey and eat nothing else. I know a large whiskey and the Lancashire cheese sourdough sarnie with mixed nuts that I just had aren’t traditional diet foods but at least I have room to improve! It’s a big improvement in the usual and love cheese and nuts.

Passthepickle · 12/04/2024 17:38

Well done Lisam78:)

Scottishskifun · 12/04/2024 19:07

Fantastic progress @popplego @Passthepickle and @lisam78

@Passthepickle I've been losing weight since mid November and the only reason I'm sticking to it is I don't view it as a diet more a lifestyle change and understanding my body needs (which for me is not very high daily calories usage).Nuts are full of protein and healthy fats, cheese is full of protein and calcium. Its got to be sustainable for you rather then diet food 🙂

popplego · 12/04/2024 19:14

Well done @lisam78 that's a great boost going into the weekend

@Scottishskifun Thank you! I am extremely short 😅 hence that on me I still have excess body fat at this weight and I'm still towards the higher end of a "healthy" BMI. And I agree I bloody love cheese! My main thing is chocolate though, I have to factor it into my calorie intake to make the diet sustainable for me or I'd have given up long ago (and have done many times 🙈)

Passthepickle · 12/04/2024 20:27

Yes I agree that’s the key Scottishskifun. I am much better eating the homemade bread with some butter and cheese and some yummy nuts then something that isn’t satisfying. What I need to do then is not also eat the home made pizza and follow it with lots of booze and then some more nuts and crisps.
It is pretty much a miracle I am not way heavier - certainly at this weight I don’t need to eat anything other than sensibly to lose weight but I need to keep the wanting to be healthy / lifestyle choice mindset. Historically I have two modes with about two and a half stone between them and settle at either extremity for a good while then the switch gets flicked and the next mode starts. Menopause somehow raised the top weight and the switch keeps moving so I go back up not down.
Running keeps me honest - have always been able to do a decent pace and now am a right slow mo. Could go from not running to 5ks in a week and now it has taken me weeks. Plod plod plod - it focuses the mind on not eating the crisps. Another two stone off wouldn’t hurt the pace.

Scottishskifun · 12/04/2024 21:58

@Passthepickle It sounds amazing! I'm gluten free and hate most gluten free products other then gluten free Italian pasta so most things people would say are being on a diet is my everyday I definitely miss good homemade bread. Gluten free stuff is awful and not worth the effort!

Passthepickle · 13/04/2024 00:30

Oh that is a thing to miss - yeah I remember trying to make gluten free bread for a friend. Not a success. I am glad you found the pasta ok!

Passthepickle · 21/04/2024 20:13

How we doing? I put two back in this week but am so bloated - hrt went wrong this week and have been full of cold. Next week should see me back to running, when my cough has gone.

Scottishskifun · 21/04/2024 21:51

Another 1lb off for me to 10 stone 3 after going up to 10 stone 5.5lb at the start of the week which I didn't count as was the start of my cycle.

So still slow and steady but target getting closer. Will be very chuffed if I can get under the 10 stone mark by mid May!
