Need to lose 1 stone? Gather around....

Not sure if this will get any clicks, but I wondered if there are folks who need to lose about a stone or a bit this way or that who might want some accountability?

BTW When I say "need to lose a stone" this means basically a stone to get to your own, individual target (which could be a random number, a random BMI point, just anything).

For me - 1 stone off takes me to weight before conceiving Baby 1, and 1.2 stone off takes me to my lightest adult weight and a very comfy size 10-12 as opposed to a size 12-14. I have added motivation that a 40th birthday tails off 2024 for me, so I've got a deadline.

My downfall? Carbs. Salty carbs. My body absolutely magically loses if I cut out rice, pasta and potatoes. And yet, alas - it specifically is those that I crave.

Anyone want a loose accountability thread?

@Swearwolf I might also pinch the kilos idea!

@Scottishskifun 2 stone in 3 months is fantastic, well done Smile

@TheDogdidGood sorry you've been ill, hope you're on the mend!

I feel like I have a bit of "diet fatigue" at this point and feel fed up of making good choices most of the time, limiting treats etc so I've been a bit lax the last few days. I went back up to 9st2.5lb after the weekend and have stalled there so far, so I need to get my motivation back. Today is a new day! I have a holiday in May that I'd really like to be feeling my best for.

hedwigshandbag · 14/03/2024 08:41

Can I join too? I've been lurking since the start but only now gathered the guts to pipe up!
I started off the year at 10st 5 and I'm now 9 st 10. It's been a major slog given I've really limited my calorie intake and dramatically reduced my alcohol. But it's nice to see the scales not even thinking about tipping into 10st - it's been a while!

I don't eat breakfast anyway, and I'm having a fatty coffee around 11 which keeps me going until 2ish. Then I'll have a fish cake and salad or something similar for supper. For me the key is not to eat too late - I'm European in my eating habits - fine on holiday but not great when I need to get a decent nights sleep midweek!

Im mid 40's now, losing weight used to be SO easy!! But here we are. I work full time and mega busy with kids/ailing parents so carving out time for me is tough but I've found a good strength class i can do twice a week. So my aim is to get into a good routine doing that, for my general well-being and if it contributes to weight loss then even better.

SW 10 5
CW 9 10
TW 9-9 3

popplego · 15/03/2024 16:00

Welcome @hedwigshandbag Smile the strength class sounds good! I'd like to go to some classes at the gym but the timings never work for me.

popplego · 16/03/2024 08:18

Morning all Smile

I'm now tantalisingly close to my initial goal of 9st 😱 I can't believe it. I've been stuck at the same weight all week then down about 2lb this morning, I'm assuming that was just good old ovulation bloat ending.

Planning to keep going for a bit past the 1st loss mark (I'm incredibly short so this isn't as light for me as it would be for others!)

That being said, I have a party to attend tonight so I'll have another upwards swing in weight from the booze. After that I don't have many social plans coming up for a good few weeks so that should hopefully make things a little easier.

Hope everyone has some nice weekend plans ahead, the sun is shining here this morning!

SW: 10st
CW: 9st0.75lb
GW: 9st (initially)

wheresmyshoe · 16/03/2024 16:11

Amazing @popplego hooray for you!

I'm down to 10st 5lbs despite a week of crashing headaches meaning I was savage around carbs and did no exercise.
I saw my hairdresser today and got the suspicious up and down and a "you're looking slim, you've lost weight, how have you done it?!" I see him every eight weeks so I'm pleased there is a visible difference since last time.

Cathy31 · 20/03/2024 08:22

Hi everyone. I haven't posted in ages as February - March has been hellish, one illness after another going through the whole family. I can't remember my starting weight now, but I weighed myself this morning, and weigh 51.5kg. I'm happy with that, especially considering the past few weeks! I haven't been well enough for the gym in weeks, hoping to start back at the weekend. Goal weight is fitting back into my pre-baby jeans, so probably 48kg or so... I have been doing better with not snacking too much, and eating proper dinners, so that's something.

Cherryblossom81 · 21/03/2024 07:36

Hi all. I disappeared from here after a challenging and extremely busy time with work/family. I hope it's ok to rejoin you.

I was doing really well and got down to 8 stone (I'm very short!). But, I've just weighed myself, after not weighing for 2 weeks, and I'm back up to 8 stone 5! I definitely need to weigh myself every day. It's so frustrating. I don't even think I've eaten particularly badly, but it seems that being short means just a few extra calories a day result in a gain. It took me 4 months to lose 5 pounds and 2 weeks to put it back on!

Anyway, my plan is:

  • try to check in here more regularly
  • track calories exactly
  • weigh myself every day
(Aim to resist hot cross buns & Easter eggs. I can have them next year!)

Hope that's ok to check in here. I can't be accountable to anyone in real life as they don't think I need to lose weight (but I know that I feel & look better when under 8 stone).

Scottishskifun · 22/03/2024 08:51

Hi all I decided not to weigh when on my period and allow the following day. I do notice a difference doing this and it helps my thinking and not give up!

Weigh in this morning 10 stone 7.5lb so loss of 2.5lb from last weigh in (was 2 weeks ago)

Total loss (since mid November) 2.5 stone.
Loss since joining this thread is half a stone nearly (0.5lb short!)
TW: 9 stone 9 10lb.

So I have 10.5lb to go but it's now under the stone mark!

Swearwolf · 22/03/2024 10:49

I'm also diving back in! I was away for work last week which massively threw me off, lots of eating out and not much exercise. Since getting back I'm very tired and a bit jetlagged so snacking and still not exercising much.

Back into it today. Healthy breakfast, short run, and no snacks so far. I don't want to weigh myself yet as I know it will throw me off to see the number go up, so I will just pick up here and see where I'm at in a couple of weeks.

I just saw a lovely spring/summer dress which will be my new motivation. It's a t-shirt type dress so will show too many lumps and bumps right now, but if I can keep going the way I was, I think I could buy it in a couple of months' time. The trousers I bought a few weeks ago - where my usual size was loose but the smaller size was a bit tight, and I opted for the looser size - they are now too big having barely worn them and I should have had more faith in myself and gone for the tighter ones. I will not do the same with this dress, so I'll hold off on buying it and keep trying!

Swearwolf · 22/03/2024 10:50

@Cherryblossom81 I feel your pain with the difference in speed between gaining and losing weight. I'm also short and it's the same for me, weeks of struggle to lose a pound, then I overeat one weekend and gain two!

Scottishskifun · 25/03/2024 09:46

Weigh in for me today went well 1lb down so 10 stone 6.5

I seem to have renewed motivation after weeks of going what's the point!
Hope everyone has a good week I have a chocolate Easter egg for the end of the week but deliberately went for a very dark one so won't want more then a small bit at a time.

TheDogdidGood · 25/03/2024 21:50

I got sick again! Flu this time. Have spent three days in bed barely eating.
Have reached the 10 stone 12's so not complaining! (too much!) :)

SW - 11 stone 2.4lbs
CW - 10 stone 12.8 lbs
Loss - 3.6lbs.
Progress 22% over 26.5% of the expected time.

Well done @popplego That's awesome!

@Swearwolf Well done! I'm doing the same with clothes until I actually lose the weight. I have half a wardrobe full of clothes that I can't get in to!

Sunny06 · 26/03/2024 09:14

Hi all! I'd love to join as I am keen to drop 2.5 stone. I am aiming to lose 1.5 by the end of June (fingers crossed!) Do you wise ones have any tips for me?
I swim 2-3 times per week and walk the dog for at least 1 hour per day

SW -13.3
CW - 12.6
GW- 10

Scottishskifun · 26/03/2024 11:16

@TheDogdidGood oh no! There is a lot going around at the moment.

I've also come down with something so managed a bowl of soup yesterday and that was it other then water.

@Sunny06 I think it's finding what works best for you. For me that's intermittent fasting of 16 hours (which I do to help a medical condition) and using my fitness pal to track calories. As I'm not very active (again thanks to medical conditions) for me that's a low calorie intake of 1200 in order to lose weight.
I would say tracking what you have is a good start as it's easy for "mindless" calories so oils, a handful of something here or there etc and go from there.

I also aim to not eat after 7ish if possible.

Others have found results with low/no carb. Be aware of cycle fluctuations around ovulation and periods too.

TheDogdidGood · 31/03/2024 00:05

Happy Easter everyone.

I’m not even going to weigh myself tomorrow! I’m still sick so have has very little exercise and too much comfort food. Will be doing self imposed boot camp this week.

Hope you’re feeling better @Scottishskifun

Passthepickle · 31/03/2024 19:40

I have been awful - meals out, drinks, family bags of crisps but am still 12.4 so it’s a miracle. Have signed up to do a half marathon so have two months to get trim and fit. Here goes !

Scottishskifun · 01/04/2024 09:13

@TheDogdidGood hope you get well soon!
I'm nearly there but had a week of just soup as had no appetite and sore when swallowing.
Flip side my weigh in was very successful 😂 so now 10 stone 4.5lb going into ovulation week and bloat so no weighing for a few days for me.

Swearwolf · 01/04/2024 10:30

@Passthepickle me too, I have had an awful month. Feeling really down about it!

I've had travel, bank holidays, sickness, and all of this has meant I've eaten too much and not exercised enough. I need to get back into good habits but am feeling really rubbish for now. I can't bring myself to weigh yet, I spent more than two months struggling and working hard to lose less than 2kg, and I know I will have gained it all back in a couple of weeks.

Husband says I shouldn't bother, because I have been around this weight since my youngest was born 8 years ago (true, I go up and down by like half a stone but still a good couple of stone overweight) and I'm about to be 40 so it's all downhill anyway. He might be right, maybe I need to accept I'm this size now.

Passthepickle · 01/04/2024 18:01

Swearwolf if you ever needed an incentive - there it is. Show him. Lose 1/2lb a week and it’s a couple of stone in the year. Let’s get back to this together - am a decade further on and it would have been easier ten years ago so don’t leave it 😂

Cherryblossom81 · 01/04/2024 22:00

Swearwolf · 22/03/2024 10:50

@Cherryblossom81 I feel your pain with the difference in speed between gaining and losing weight. I'm also short and it's the same for me, weeks of struggle to lose a pound, then I overeat one weekend and gain two!

Yes. Frustratingly I think that has happened to me this weekend. It's so hard being short! I really don't eat very much at all. But put weight on so easily.

Right - there's nothing I can do about my height, so I'm refocusing again from tomorrow. I'm focusing on high protein, lots of veg and no evening snacking.

I'm trying to work out if it's better for me to eat breakfast or not. I've been doing 16:8 (often 18:6) IF for a while. But now wondering if maybe I'm not actually eating enough during the day and then I'm tempted to snack in the afternoon or eve. Maybe I'll trial going back to 3 meals a day.

How's everyone else getting on? Anyone got any top tips?

Swearwolf · 02/04/2024 06:44

You're both right, I need to try harder to get back into the right mindset. Even if my weight doesn't go down, I don't want it to go up. It's still hard with the kids being on school holidays, but I will try to get at least a couple of exercise sessions in this week, and stop mindlessly eating nonsense!

Passthepickle · 02/04/2024 08:37

Do you do weights Swearwolf? I am starting - I think it makes a big difference as you get older

Swearwolf · 02/04/2024 10:44

I don't, but I do yoga which is quite hard and has the same effect I think. I run 3x a week and do one or two yoga classes.

wheresmyshoe · 02/04/2024 11:07

I've had a weekend of wine, malteasers and dauphinoise potatoes. Back to showing some restraint today and the MFP 1200 limit.
I'm currently 10st 3lbs, this would have been unimaginable this time last year. I really struggled to break that 11st barrier but I understand more now that plateaus are normal and not a reason to give up.
This biggest differences for me are seriously cutting back the wine and evening snacking.

CocktailQueenie · 02/04/2024 17:42

Please can I join you? Need to lose just under a stone, completely lost my way over Easter! Also going through menopause which doesn't help matters. I do aqua aerobics twice a week, swim three times a week and lift weights twice a week, just need to tame down the alcohol and sugar once again. I'm going to Center Parcs on a hen do at the end of June and would like to feel a bit more body-confident.
