Need to lose 1 stone? Gather around....

Not sure if this will get any clicks, but I wondered if there are folks who need to lose about a stone or a bit this way or that who might want some accountability?

BTW When I say "need to lose a stone" this means basically a stone to get to your own, individual target (which could be a random number, a random BMI point, just anything).

For me - 1 stone off takes me to weight before conceiving Baby 1, and 1.2 stone off takes me to my lightest adult weight and a very comfy size 10-12 as opposed to a size 12-14. I have added motivation that a 40th birthday tails off 2024 for me, so I've got a deadline.

My downfall? Carbs. Salty carbs. My body absolutely magically loses if I cut out rice, pasta and potatoes. And yet, alas - it specifically is those that I crave.

Anyone want a loose accountability thread?

New low this morning of 9st5.25 Smile been hanging around 9st6/7 for what feels like ages so I'm very excited to see a 5!

froidIci · 23/02/2024 10:20

Yay well done @popplego ! I am now on cycle day 23, and usually have 26/27 day cycles so will officially not weigh till after Aunt Irma departs!

Will obviously be sensible, drink lots, etc - but usually I weigh in this PMS ey time and it leads to disillusionment!

I'm doing the same @froidIci , mid-blob right now and going to wait at least a week to weigh again. The last few days I have been starving and have definitely eaten more than I should have, I have got back into my exercise habit after half term though so I'm not panicking yet.

I've also been on the ginger, I buy the ginger juice shots and have a little tiny glass in the morning. I feel like it suppresses my appetite a bit!

Happy weekend all.

I’ve lost not even a pound since Saturday for some reason. (I’ve been within my carefully counted and measured calories and exercised with just one tiny portioned meal out last Saturday - which makes me wonder if they’re worth it now, which is a bit disappointing as it feels restrictive.) But before planning my takeaway to feel sorry for myself with tonight, I found it useful to look back at my first post here. I’m 9.6lb today so that’s 12lb lost since 19th Jan when I was 10.4lb. So 2.4lb a week on average. Motivated again now! I’ll read everyone’s updates later. Always look forward to hearing about how everyone is doing and your tips.

popplego · 23/02/2024 16:47

@Philippa7 that's a fantastic loss, I'd be thrilled with that! I know what you mean though it can feel really demoralising not seeing the scales go down. I was stuck going up and down between 9'7 and 9'6 for what felt like an age.

yoshiblue · 23/02/2024 21:02

Have been doing really well with monitoring my controlled calories all week, but had a cheat day today. Had a lovely two course Italian meal/pizza with a friend, but didn't eat before or afterwards so I'm hoping the damage will be minimal.

Saturday weekly weigh in tomorrow, I've jumped on the scales a couple of times this week and I have been 1.5lb down so I'm hoping at least 1 of that stays off! 🤞

lisam78 · 24/02/2024 12:15

Morning all, another pound down today - 10st 8lbs. Incredibly slow progress - it's like a pound every 3-4weeks! Still doing 3 workouts per week, not calorie counting though, just trying to cut out UPFs from my diet, and cooking healthy meals most nights. I might need to start tracking calories though, otherwise I won't hit my target weight until August!

Well done on the loss. The pizza sounds really nice. It’s not cheating btw 😁 it’s all about balance. Sounds like you’ve got the best of both worlds of losing but still enjoying life.

Ah thanks! Well done with your new low! Really close to 9 stone now! 😁

The scales are going in the right direction! That’s the main thing right? And cutting down on UPFs is a massive thing I reckon. I find it so hard despite trying my best to eat well most of the time. I have been reading How Not to Age and there’s this concept of the Daily Dozen (assuming you aren’t familiar with it but apologies if you are. Finding it impossible fitting them all in while on a low cal diet tbh! I feel like I’d need at least five meals a day to get them all in. So I’m looking forward to having a normal amount of calories again to try and fit more into my daily diet.

I haven't read that book, so not familiar with the Daily Dozen, but I'll definitely have a read, thanks!

The author also has books called How Not to Die and How Not to Diet, the latter of which you may find interesting if not counting calories. I haven’t read these two though yet but I will!

Passthepickle · 25/02/2024 12:01

Well it wasn’t a very healthy week and I am yet to return to running but I did remember to weigh myself and was down to 12.4 so happy with that.

Next week should be a more easy to navigate one so back to being good.

Philippa7 · 25/02/2024 18:46

Honest post alert!

I totally fell off the wagon today eating a massive pizza and chocolate bar! Period due tomorrow which I think is to blame - as well as being exhausted with my DC not sleeping and being just a few pound away from the mid point healthy BMI. This happens every single time I’m close to target! But it’s so stupid and counterproductive because the last pounds/stone are always so difficult to shift.

I’ve worked out I’ve eaten about 1200 calories above my deficit calories. It was delicious but realistically I hope to be the same weight as I was before today at NEXT Monday’s weigh in which seems like a waste of a week or so - all for a pizza and chocolate bar. Ah well, it’s done now and lesson learned…

Just being honest. This is about the highs and the lows right? Tbf it wasn’t a low! I had a lovely day and, tbh, it was nice to have a bit of a day off… Back on it tomorrow with restored motivation!

froidIci · 25/02/2024 19:11

My period is due tomorrow too (we synch I think @Philippa7 and I!) - yesterday I had a large slab of cake at MIL’s birthday. Strangely have lost a kilo this morning but I think for me the main loss happens from period day 1 to 5, then ovulation leads to bloat and gain and I must make the most of this week ahead. Strangely not craving thing either I find before period but ovulation absolutely kills me.

commiserations - hang in there. It’s so bloody (literally “bloody”) hard with all these hormonal happenings

I’ve actually put weight on this week! I’ve injured my knee and not being able to exercise this week. There may have been some alcohol and chocolate comfort eating involved too :(

popplego · 26/02/2024 07:45

Joining in with the "off the wagon" posts this morning 🙈 I went out for a glorious Sunday roast with some old friends yesterday and had a few drinks too. It was nice to have a little break after I think now about 5 weeks of tracking tbh.

Think I'm going to skip weighing myself today to avoid the disappointment and just get straight back to normal eating. Debating whether to set both Saturday and Sunday as "easy days" in Nutracheck rather than just Sunday to give myself more leeway on weekends, but that would mean only 1200 cals on weekdays 🧐

On the bright side, I weighed yesterday morning at 9st5lb and another half an inch has come off my waist Smile Hope everyone has a successful week!

HappyLittleTreeFriend · 26/02/2024 08:29

I haven’t weighed but I’m definitely feeling good and have had a good week last week exercise and food-wise! So going to really go for it this week, stick to my good habits, track my calories and aim to weigh on Friday morning and hopefully see some scales progress 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

wheresmyshoe · 26/02/2024 09:32

I'm back on the wagon, holiday and family big birthday have meant excess but thankfully I seem to have got away with only 1lb up. Travelling for work this week which usually causes calorie chaos but I shall do my best to make the right choices despite the lure of a Premier Inn breakfast...

Swearwolf · 26/02/2024 11:50

I fell off the wagon too! Period was last week and I felt sluggish and hungry, so my portions and snacking crept up. Then I was out with friends at the weekend, eating too much and drinking cocktails. I did limit myself to only three drinks, but they were pretty hefty ones. It also meant I missed doing any exercise over the weekend.

I have another night out coming this weekend! I will try to have a sensible week and hope it doesn't set me back too much. I've been for a short run this morning and had a sensible breakfast.

MrsWhites · 26/02/2024 14:09

Hey everyone, can I join in?

I’ve steadily been gaining weight for a while now and been in denial. What used to be a size 10 has creeped to a size 12 and now closer to a 14. My clothes don’t fit me, I’m 40 this year and I’m the heaviest I’ve ever been at 10 stone 12 oz so something has got to change. I’m asthmatic and it has been much worse recently too which is probably because I’m so unfit!

Wanting to get back into the 9’s when I step on the scales so a stone has to go.

My first step is dropping full fat coke (I usually drink between 2-3 cans a day) so starting today I’ve switched to Coke Zero 🤢 and have had a chopped salad with chicken for lunch. I’m not a big meal eater which means I snack a lot so I need to completely change my mindset towards meals.

Hoping having others in the same boat will help me stick to it because at the moment I just keep thinking about the food that I can’t eat 😂

froidIci · 26/02/2024 19:40

Welcome aboard!

For me this last month (as in period to period) - has meant no loss whatsoever. I’ve lost and gained the same 1.5 kilos across the weeks between day 1 of my last period and day 1 of my current period today. I’ve got nothing to show for it.

OP posts:
MrsWhites · 26/02/2024 21:03

Thanks for the welcome @froidIci.

It can be so frustrating when you stay the same weight can’t it! When I’ve dieted in the past and stayed the same weight I’ve tried to remind myself that if I’d have stuck to my old unhealthy eating ways then i’d have carried on gaining weight so even staying the same lower weight is an achievement in itself.

doodlepants · 27/02/2024 11:29

I don't know whether this is allowed so please ignore me if not but I checked in ages ago and have an update:

I'm down 6kg (just shy of a stone) since January! Started at 73kg and now at 67kg.

I've been following intermittent fasting (calorie counting simply doesn't work for me) and it's been great! I don't think I want to lose much more so now it's time for maintenance and making sure I don't allow it to creep back on!

Wishing everyone success!

Not sure what you meant by it not being allowed (?) but I think it possibly is the case that with these accountability threads folks rely on each other sharing semi-regulars ups (and downs!) over time and the sense of togetherness that comes from checking in with each other regularly. Perhaps you meant that not posting at all and then posting a huge weight loss as an update might be interpreted by some as not quite being in the spirit of the thread?

either way - well done on the loss! Do feel free to post/rely on others if you have downs and ups to share as you maintain.
