Starting 2024 at my heaviest ever weight after being pregnant 3 times in 4 years. Don’t actually know how much I weigh as my scales are broken (not from me standing on them), but I know I’m the biggest I’ve ever been. I need people to know I HAVE to lose weight, for my health and my sanity. So I’m gonna start here, with strangers on the internet. So if I keep eating crap and not an exercising, I’ll have to admit it here and shame myself.
I have lost a lot weight in the past before I had kids so I had time to make it my sole focus, not so simple this time around.
Will sort my scales out and find out my starting weight.
Please join in if you also need a good kick up the arse and we can all muck in together.

@Tiredanddistracted that sounds delicious! I’ve never made bread before. Oh yeah when I was pregnant I had GD and could not eat white bread at all, it was even worse than rice and pasta because of all the sugar!

It's super easy! Trust me when I day I am not a baker - my repertoire is basically this and rock cakes.

Here's a link if you fancy trying it:

Don't beat yourself up about the pizza. We've all been there x

Easy Wholemeal Soda Bread

Delicious, crusty wholemeal bread in under 40 minutes? Yes it is possible! My Easy Wholemeal Soda Bread is lovely with soups and salads, or for taking on a picnic.

Me.

Emotional eater.

Need to lose 2 stone. Already eaten 2 celebration chocolates this morning, still lots of Xmas temptation around but really want to lose 2 stone by end of May.

No idea how to do it. Keto works well for me but I find it very difficult.

Gottoloveatakeaway · 02/01/2024 12:38

PamelaDoov · 01/01/2024 22:24

I think I’m about 15 stone but becuse of my height my BMI would be slightly lower, around 31 I think. But still obese! I can’t believe that word applies to me, it sounds horrible. I don’t think I look that bad when I look in the mirror but in photos I like enormous 😔 mindful eating starts tomorrow, Will try to get some exercise too

Very similar to me, I just weighed at 15stone 8lbs, definitely obese. But I look in the mirror and think not bad too, until I see a photo of a barely recognisable fat woman. Since when did that become me? Need to lose at least 3 stone.

PamelaDoov · 02/01/2024 12:38

@Tiredanddistracted ooh I might have a go some time, thanks :)

@Rowawa is keto no carb? I think 2 stone by end of May is definitely achievable! We have sooo much Xmas choc & biscuits left in the house, I actually hate it being in the house but I don’t want to waste food.

PamelaDoov · 02/01/2024 12:40

@Gottoloveatakeaway yep that’s exactly what it’s like 😔 so weird to think you look better than you actually do, like the opposite of body dysmorphia.

Workout done 👍 and low carb high protein lunch!

OP posts:
Tiredanddistracted · 02/01/2024 12:44

I also am fully capable of looking in the mirror and thinking 'heyyyy looking good!' before later seeing a photo of a tub of lard that somebody has mockingly attired in my own clothes.

PamelaDoov · 02/01/2024 16:42

Urgh DH is having a beer and it’s making me want a drink tonight! Need to power through as we’ve already got dinner & drinks planned with friends tomorrow, there is no reason for me to be guzzling calories tonight as well. I’ve already told him to just put me a tiny bit of potato on my chicken dinner, and said no to stuffing 😳

Can I join?

I'll weigh myself in the morning but today I've been horrendously hungover and eaten everything in sight as usual.

Going dry is the biggest thing for me as I drink far too much and that's contributed to me being a massive blob.

Start with dry jan and eating better. Dust off my weights.

Aim for 3x a week exercise like you op and pray I lose about 3 stone.

No clue of my weight - I'm actually scared to look. I'm the biggest I've ever been. Even bigger than post partum.

I'll post my weight tomorrow and look forward to joining in!!!

NCgoingdry · 02/01/2024 16:52

Started by prepping all my lunches for work this week in the airfryer.

I've got four days worth of chicken and veg in takeaway pots.

PamelaDoov · 02/01/2024 17:11

@NCgoingdry sounds like a good plan, you can do it! I’m still weighting for my new scales to come. I am genuinely looking forward to being shocked into action. I was gonna do dry Jan but I’ve got a few social events, I am going to cut down massively though.
Ah airfryer lunches is such a good idea! I’m glad I’m on maternity leave so I can exercise at the times I want rather than after work, I used to hate having to do that!

My husband showed me a picture of myself he took over Xmas and honestly I don't even recognise myself. My face is just so bloated. Back fat on back fat.

My scales aren't great but I weighed in this morning at 11st 12lbs.

All the clothes in my wardrobe are from when I was a comfortable 10st - so 2 stone to lose. I think it's worse because it's happened so suddenly. I've piled this on in under a year.

We are going away in august so I would ideally like to have lost more than 2 stone to give myself some flexibility on my weight.

1lb a week means a stone off by April.

First sober night under my belt in about five months too.

How is everyone fitting in exercise around work/kids/life???

How is everyone feeling today?

PanicDisco · 03/01/2024 06:38

Glad it's not just me who looks in the mirror and thinks "I look fine!" Then is horrified by the pictures.

I think post Xmas we're all so used to piling into heavy food that it no longer even really registers. Sugar is my main problem - I literally can't leave it if it's in the house, and we have so much leftover from Xmas. I've tried cutting down before but think I'll have to go cold turkey.

Stopped the booze just after Xmas as it was disturbing my sleep, that's been surprisingly easy but then I didn't drink much to start with.

Have a stone to lose just to feel normal. Some work photos are being taken on 19th Jan, wondering if I can lose a bit by then, or at least lose some bloat!

NCgoingdry · 03/01/2024 06:47

@PanicDisco honestly I'm like - oh I actually look ok in the flesh and then I see it for myself.... and well no.... I look like a shiny potato.

I think simply avoiding alcohol and the Xmas snacks is going to go a long way into reducing the bloat in general so fingers crossed 🤞🏻 the first few weeks can keep us motivated.

Like PP said I'm going to be kind to myself. This isn't about punishment or extreme restrictions - it's about being healthy and strong and better mentally too. If I reframe it like that I might last more than five minutes!

PamelaDoov · 03/01/2024 08:50

Good morning all, who’s ready for another day of not being a greedy pig 😆 I know I am!
@NCgoingdry see if I was 11 stone 12 I’d look and feel great! But I am tall. So it just shows all bodies are different. I was 11.5 stone when I got married and I would love to look like that again. Any more off after that would be a bonus, but I imagine that goal will be years off for me. Well done on having a night off booze 👍
I do a workout when the baby is napping. 3 days a week toddler is at nursery, but on the days he is home I will have to stick him in front of the telly for an hour. If I wasn’t on mat leave, I honestly don’t know how I’d fit it in, so I really really need to get to a good weight by the time I go back in September

OP posts:
PamelaDoov · 03/01/2024 08:52

@PanicDisco Im glad it’s not just me too, I was wondering what the hell was wrong with me. But I can honestly say I am just fed up of eating & drinking now. Well my body is anyway, I’ve got to train my mind to have a better view of food!

I want to lose my baby weight! It's so hard to exercise with a 6 month old. But I wanted to recommend the 'Down Dog' app. It's currently £15 a year (January sale) and it's a suite of apps - there's a yoga, hiit, barre, running and meditation. The yoga, hiit and barre are all really easy to do at home and you can work out for 10 minutes or as long as you have. I'm going to try to do a little bit every day. I used it during lockdown (pre-baby so hours and hours of time) and lost loads of weight. Good luck everyone x

NCgoingdry · 04/01/2024 06:17

Managed to stay strict yesterday despite being offered leftover Xmas chocolate a dozen times and going to bed with massive sugar cravings. Would have killed for a glass of wine.

Instead I had a herbal tea and some CBD oil (not sure if it's doing anything but the placebo effect is great 😂).

Woke up hungry but I've had a coffee and it's subsided. Had a great sleep too.

I shouldn't be hungry because I'm eating a good amount and a lot of protein but I'm guessing as it's only day 3 I'm just levelling out after binging on alcohol and sugar/fatty foods for months.

Definitely need to start adding some movement into my life. But I'm already up at 5am and going well into the evening with ironing/cleaning/cooking/tidying/work etc - I honestly don't know when I'm supposed to do it.

sigh definitely want a giant cheeseburger or burrito and a bottle of wine but I'm looking at the photo of myself as a reminder of why I'm doing this!

How is everyone feeling?? Do you have set days when you weigh yourself?

PamelaDoov · 04/01/2024 13:28

@NCgoingdry well done you! Willpower is such an important part of this. Is CBD oil something to do with weight loss or for something else?
I was really good yesterday day time but went out for dinner and drinks in the evening, which I knew I was going to let myself do as I’d been looking forward to it. But it means I’ve fallen off the wagon today becuse I’m hungover and needs carbs 😂 will be strict with myself tomorrow!
I weighed myself today before eating, but I had had tea and pop. 14 stone 10lb which was actually better than I expected considering I was only slightly lighter than that before I got pregnant last year! Will do it again in the morning to check. I like to weigh every Saturday morning when I get into the swing of it, midweek weigh ins don’t always show any progress yet.
I know lots of people will say it’s daft but I am also taking XLS medical. If it doesn’t help then so be it but I don’t mind buying it to try. I’ve also got back into the routine of taking all my vitamins that I was taking pre-pregnancy to keep my hormones in check. I want to be healthy as possible when we start trying for baby number 3!

PamelaDoov · 04/01/2024 13:29

@NCgoingdry also cleaning and tidying can be a workout if you really work yourself hard! You could get ankle weights, do some random bursts of squats and lunges, jump around between rooms as you go 😅

OP posts:
PamelaDoov · 04/01/2024 17:06

Even though I haven’t eaten great today or done a workout, I’ve made myself feel better by doing lots of tidying and cleaning, so I still feel like I’ve been active today 👍

I have spent all day doing uni work. I'm doing a Masters course on the side, for my teaching job and I honestly don't know how I'm going to manage it. Especially without my usual food crutch!

Still, I got a lot done and have eaten healthily all day so feeling accomplished 💪

Breakfast: homemade soda bread, scrambled eggs, little bit of proper butter.

Lunch: quinoa salad with feta and pomegranate. Banana.

Tea: in the oven. Prawn jacket potatoes with salad because I'm knackered. Probably treat myself to berries and full fat Greek yoghurt for dessert. Yknow... because I deserve it and all that.

Keep strong, guys. We're doing just fine.

PamelaDoov · 04/01/2024 20:02

@Tiredanddistracted that sounds like a good day of eating! Greek yog with berries is my one of my go-tos as well, I add chia seeds or chopped nuts (and a teeny bit of honey)

OP posts:
Tiredanddistracted · 04/01/2024 20:10

@PamelaDoov I put flaked almonds in mine! So good!

NCgoingdry · 05/01/2024 06:18

Hey @PamelaDoov - no so the CBD oil for me was basically to help me sleep as I've quit drinking. I've been on a bottle of wine a night (plus more at weekends) for about a year so going cold Turkey was terrifying. It probably does absolutely nothing but even if it's just in my head - I have been sleeping like a baby and definitely less anxious. A lot of mental energy goes into not drinking though. I'm dreading the weekend.

I was looking at XLS medical funnily enough how are you finding it?? Fat binders are actually prescribed by the GP to obese patients so it must work?? Do you think it's made a difference.

@Tiredanddistracted thanks for sharing your food diary!! It'll give me inspiration for my boring diet.

Yesterday was -

Breakfast - 0% Greek yoghurt and blueberries with a tbsp of chia seeds

Lunch - air fried chicken and loads of different veg - with spices such as tumeric, chilli and garlic

Dinner - seared steak, side salad of olives, onions and tomatoes and poached eggs.

Today breakfast and lunch will be very similar but I've also got a couple of boiled eggs for the afternoon as I absolutely tanked at work and was ravenous mid-afternoon.

Need some high-protein work lunch inspiration otherwise I'm going to get very bored very quickly!

I've made a promise to myself I'll work out 2-3 times next week.

I'll make my weigh day tomorrow. Definitely feeling less bloated so hopefully even some water weight has come off!!

NCgoingdry · 05/01/2024 06:20

Is anyone also taking vitamins?

I'm taking an all round multivitamin, and extra iron tablet as I'm anaemic and cod liver oil. Not sure if I should be taking anything else 😂
