2 Stones Off By Easter- a thread for those with lots to lose in 2024.

RedDoughnut · 30/12/2023 20:42

The 2 Stones off by Christmas thread was pretty successful.
Hopefully this one will be just as useful.
The idea is that losing 2 stones is just the start. If you have a lot to lose then it can seem daunting so... small targets.

That said, to get 2 stones off by Easter then we need to lose a bit over
2 lbs per week so a bit of dedication is needed.
Start Date- January 1st but join when you can.

Weigh In Day - usually Monday but it's up to you.

For those that are coming from the original thread I think for the new thread we need to add an extra element. Self care! Anything you can add to help you feel a bit better. Skin care? Body Lotion? Flossing your teeth?
Just a little something in addition to watching what you eat.

I haven't posted for my previous 2 weigh in as the scales haven't budged.

I was trying to just cut back a bit and move a bit more but it's very clear that this just isn't going to be enough. Also my BMI is around 33 which really is a problem.

So. I've taken a deep breath and decided to not just hide but to run away from this. I've signed up the the NHS weight loss app which is a bit clunky and not all that intuitive. I hate tracking calories because it's such a faff with home cooking and I find it encourages eating 'diet' versions of things that often contain loads of sweetness and UPF. BUT I will do my best and track everything roughly, if several options are available I pick the highest calorie option to try and avoid underestimating.

I've also upped my PT sessions to twice a week and are being better about my 10k steps.

Thank you to everyone who has also struggled posting because you've given me the confidence to stay here and keep plugging away at it.

Walkingbkwrm · 24/01/2024 14:19

I’ve got even more than you to lose @Tangerin so don’t worry you have company. There’s at least couple of others around too. Also with you on the PMS (see recent pizza). Slow and steady does it though, we can do it.

GiantPigeon · 24/01/2024 15:37

Hi @Tangerin I resonate with what your saying regards feeling lonely and sad on weight loss mission. I also have about 20kg to lose too. I also feel tired and have had a problematic hip since giving birth, however the pain is probably not helped by the fact I am carrying this extra 20kg of weight!

That's good you started with running with couch to 5k, I'd also like to do that at some point in coming weeks or months. I started the gym in 2019 but gave it up due to covid in 2020. I started couch to 5k last year but gave it up after 1.5 week due to life stress.

I had nearly 4 years being under the childrens hospital plus other life stress for what feels like the past decade and I also feel a bit like "How did I get to this" like you say. But I know the how, I've just been in survival mode a lot and that has meant takeaways, convenience food and soul soothing treats to perk myself up. It's sad when I look back at cards we have been dealt.

I lost some progress recently but have tried not to give up and write my updates on this thread. I'd like not to give up but I know I might as I feel all I've been successful at in recent years is surviving but not actually achieving anything for just myself. I'd really like to stick this out. Best of luck to you too

Tangerin · 24/01/2024 15:49

Thank you @Walkingbkwrm , I really want pizza now. I was so grumpy today and needed some sugar. I decided to bake with the children and we made chocolate cupcakes and I ate two. Not great but I figured that the effort of baking and washing up means that this is not going to be a daily occurrence and if I want changes for life then I need to allow myself days like this. It is so hard to see a big number to chip away slowly because I have no patience and I am all for instant gratification.

oh @GiantPigeon , motherhood… particularly of your babies or children required more care than usual… survival mode for years, absolutely. When some mums were already exercising and trying to get back on track, I was still struggling and children in and out of hospital so often…

but here we are and we don’t quit and have support here then we might get there!

CurlsnSunshinetime4tea · 25/01/2024 01:10

@Tangerin i'm not sure if big numbers are overwhelming or motivating but i believe it is more life circumstances that creates the challenge.
i certainly could NOT loose weight or maintain weight loss while my kids were home and i was working shift work and then when they left the home and i worried about them 24/7.
it's really difficult and even as a retiree with a supportive spouse (he can be supportive most of the time) i find it hard to maintain the healthy weight zone.
don't give up, stay focused and maybe just maybe consider loosing and maintaining 10lbs at a time.
think of how much better your body will feel and just focus on little steps.

KinderToMyFutureSelf · 25/01/2024 06:05

Morning everyone, been a busy week so not had chance to read thread properly yet - hope you are all doing well. Again, this week I’ve tried to be good, the chocolate pine cones have gone and I’m finishing my evening meal with an After Eight (hard to have just one, but managing so far). I’m not doing as much exercise as I would like, but will aim to try and do 10,000 steps a day soon - I usually do between about 6,000 and 7,000 - but not purposefully- just by being at work. A podcast I listen to says that 10,000 steps (Steps for Health, she calls them) should be non-negotiable every day - that’s what I’d like to aim for ….eventually! Happy with a 2lb weight loss this week ….. As soon as I’m out of the ‘16’s’ I am going to make a promise to ‘my future self’ not to EVER get into the ‘16’s’ again …. let’s see if that works …

Good luck everyone for this coming week - we can do this!

Finding the lack of any decent movement on the scales really difficult now. I'm doing a lot of exercise which I know causes water retention so the scales are up and down and it's hard to work out what's true loss and what isn't.

My hope is a 7lb loss by the end of this month. I may try and find a slow loser thread as it's quite hard to see such big losses when mine are so crap!

Seaitoverthere · 25/01/2024 08:32

@Tangerin welcome. It isn't easy when the kids are little. I have more to lose than you do, my BMI is 38 something currently, it was over 42 in November so I am making progress. I'm mid 50s and need a hip replacement as have hip dysplasia which I wasn't aware of until it less to osteoarthritis. Currently I am pretty immobile and it is really hard. I refuse to be beaten though.

Suspect you won't have to start again with C25K. Try the week previous to where you were. The secret is to go incredibly slowly as on so walkers over take you. In time you will get stronger and fitter and your breathing will become more natural. I love running and miss it so much. I only had a couple of years doing it in my late 40s but I guess at least I had that.

Weigh in for me tomorrow. Looking like it will be a pound off. Would have liked more but it is what it is and hopefully after my op which will be later this year if I am lucky then I will be able to move again and can get back to exercise.

Satincat · 25/01/2024 13:56

Well done to everyone who is still trying even if it doesn't always go to plan!

And if you're reading this but feel you've given up a bit... I've started and given up and started and given up lots of times in the past (sometimes on a daily basis, starting brilliantly and giving up by evening then doing it all again the next day) but I believe if you can get through the tough first month still willing to try, and still doing one thing a day that will help, be it drinking a glass of water or having two biscuits instead of three, whatever it is, no matter how small, that very gradually the better habits mindset starts getting stronger. Flowers

cooroocoocoo · 25/01/2024 14:22

@kirinm sympathies. I have had no further loss since the initial one. I am however eating way more healthily though in terms of UPF, fresh foods, etc than I did last year. I think I need to go easier on the nuts. I used to binge eat chocolates/biscuits and I have now shifted to nuts. So better nutrients but still too many calories. We shall make it!

@Satincat thank you for your kind words!

CurlsnSunshinetime4tea · 25/01/2024 16:33

@kirinm do you have smart scales that show water retention/hydration info?
i do find that info helpful when the scales are not moving or after a good workout. for me the effects of exercise or salt can last three days and seeing the spike on the graph helps (as does a banana the potassium helps flush the sodium).
like you as i get nearer my goal wt (which is the highest point of the normal bmi) my ability to loose becomes harder and harder.
@cooroocoocoo yes nuts and in my case pumpkin seeds...are very calorie dense :(.

LolaJ87 · 25/01/2024 16:48

Hello everyone!

Hope it's ok if I join. I am very obese but don't want to set myself any unrealistic goals. It's just under 10 weeks until Easter and I would like to lose 10kg by then.

If I over-restrict it leads to binging. I had GD while pregnant and really felt great while following a GD diet so over the past week I have cut down on processed sugars and am eating at set times (3 meals, 3 snacks) to prevent grazing. I'm trying to eat for health rather than weight loss, but I would like to TTC again later this year and any weight loss can only be of benefit for that.

I've always been strong and active and truly never felt any ill effects from my weight until I had my baby. I'm achey in ways I never experienced before. My legs are always stiff (I've been to the GP and had a full panel of bloods but nothing flagged) and I'm hoping some weight loss will help this, it makes me feel so down and I want to be able to keep up with my son.

CurlsnSunshinetime4tea · 27/01/2024 23:16

i'm poking along and honestly surprised at the progress i've achieved this month. it won't be a stone, but it will have been a way better start than any other starts (and that's saying a lot).
i'm logging logging logging 90% of what touches my lips.
walking at the university's indoor track daily (dh is super motivated to do his 10,000 steps a day with most being indoors while our weather is cold).
the thread is helping me and i hope it's helping lots of lurkers 😎

Away with have no access to scales this week so will have to weigh when I'm back. Don't think it's going to be great as I haven't been very good at sticking to keto when I'm not cooking for myself...! Well done everyone and get well soon to those feeling rubbish x
