2 Stones Off By Easter- a thread for those with lots to lose in 2024.

RedDoughnut · 30/12/2023 20:42

The 2 Stones off by Christmas thread was pretty successful.
Hopefully this one will be just as useful.
The idea is that losing 2 stones is just the start. If you have a lot to lose then it can seem daunting so... small targets.

That said, to get 2 stones off by Easter then we need to lose a bit over
2 lbs per week so a bit of dedication is needed.
Start Date- January 1st but join when you can.

Weigh In Day - usually Monday but it's up to you.

For those that are coming from the original thread I think for the new thread we need to add an extra element. Self care! Anything you can add to help you feel a bit better. Skin care? Body Lotion? Flossing your teeth?
Just a little something in addition to watching what you eat.

@RedDoughnut I've bought a new tankini for my forthcoming holiday does that count? Also a whole range of Noughty Care Taker hair products hoping to calm down my scalp psoriasis. I'm rubbish at self care but don't seem to have trouble looking after everybody else! I suspect I'm not alone.

@RedDoughnut I have been using almond oil with a stone roller and facial massage techniques to help clear all the bloating and puffy from eating loads of sugar and stuff in December.

I batch cooked yesterday, had a really good walk into town and back on Tuesday, done cleaning today. Every day I've done a short walk at school pick up time instead of sitting in the car.

Weighing in tomorrow.

I wonder if I could use almond oil and a stone roller to roll out my bloated midriff…🐷🤪

Am now 2.9kg down from 02 January. It’s been a bit of a slog, trying to keep under 1000-1200 calories a day, plus a 45min power walk and 30min yoga each day. Food hasn’t been too bad, and have even managed to be able to incorporate a few glasses of wine in the allowance.

It just feels a very long road and I wish I was this motivated 10kg ago as would have a lot less to lose!

kirinm · 11/01/2024 19:17

Have had a better day today. Assuming I don't eat the contents of my (quite bare) fridge I should have a decent calorie deficit today. I also have another personal training session tomorrow.

lorisparkle · 11/01/2024 20:55

I have been really struggling with snacking in the evening but I am doing so much better today. Fingers crossed this continues!

TicketyBoo11 · 11/01/2024 21:02

Can I ask how you have all calculated your calorie allowance . I have calculated my TDEE (BMR x sedentary office job) and have deducted 20% to give a steady weight loss. Hopefully.
How’s everyone else doing it?

Possibly weird but what helped me was the write down/say "I don't eat in the evening" rather than "I won't eat in the evening"

the other thing that helps me is not to go back in the kitchen after dinner is finished!

lorisparkle · 11/01/2024 21:14

Thanks @Morwenscapacioussleeves it is tricky as we have a lounge diner and our 'snack' box for the teenagers is kept in the dining room. I will try your mantra and try and go to bed earlier!

cooroocoocoo · 11/01/2024 21:46

@TicketyBoo11 Thanks. Just checked my TDEE on an online calculator. It seems useful but terrifying. My maintenance calories seems so low (1,644 for me). No wonder I have been putting on weight.

TicketyBoo11 · 11/01/2024 22:35

I am just about doing 1366 cals daily but if I was to go down the 500 cal reduction route and go to down 1200 I’d be hungry and give up…I’ve been maintaining for 2 years without even trying…

(But you sound very controlled with one chocolate a night, that's really good! If only I could stick to one, but I can't Sad)

Satincat .... reading back it sounds very good 'one chocolate a night' .... what I failed to mention was they are MASSIVE chocolates .... M&S Salted Caramel Pine Cones .... they're almost the size of a Creme Egg ..... and if I'm being TOTALLY honest - I don't even like them much .... I sure as hell couldn't stop at one segment of a Chocolate Orange!! But, it seems to be doing the trick .... I get a taster of chocolate but not keen enough to have more Wink.

CurlsnSunshinetime4tea · 12/01/2024 02:19

@cooroocoocoo i use a calorie counting program called cronometer (way more accurate than mfp). it has my TDEE at 1490 and my BMR at 1242.
and yes i am fully aware that 1500 is maintenance for me and to loose weight i need to be as close to 1200 as possible. since manufactures can be off on their calorie calculation by 10% i absolutely need to pay attention when i've let my weight creep up.
thankfully i'm rarely hungry but really enjoy the flavors of certain foods and snacks (toothbrushing and hot herbal teas help).
and like others have suggested after dinner the kitchen (and pantry) need to be no go zones.

LosingMyPumpkins · 12/01/2024 07:23

I’m 0.8 kg down since my weigh-in last week (and 0.6 kg since my starting weight).

at least it seems to be going in the right direction!

edit: I had a small-ish surgery this Wednesday and am still wearing some of the bandages. Pretty light weight but I am telling myself that this would be at least 0.1-0.2kg 😂 (something I’ll hopefully get to see next week 😅)

I am really excited for next Wednesday, when I’ll hopefully be allowed to properly exercise again! 💪

Satincat · 12/01/2024 09:09

That's really good Kinder, I love the choc oranges too but no way could I stop at just one segment either! Grin

Hope we all have a good day today & stay on track Smile I realised the other day that in my head I was always expecting/hoping/wishing to make great losses somehow of 3 or 4 lb every single week (I know!!) and always be very controlled with everything I eat, but it really clicked that 2lb a week is reasonably achievable and all those 2lbs add up, week by week.

In my head it feels so slow to do 2lb off a week (or even 1lb) but the weeks go by faster than you think and my previous diet efforts have shown me that quick losses can lead to quick regains because I can get so fed up. I guess I'm just impatient to see fast results, but the best results are steady little ones not the big flash ones and then nothing or yo-yo.

Satincat · 12/01/2024 09:12

Well done on your loss as well LosingMyPumpkins especially as you have had a surgery, that's really good. Hope you recover soon Flowers

kirinm · 12/01/2024 09:57

I think a 2lb loss a week is actually really quite tricky as you need a deficit of 7000 calories a week (theoretically anyway) to see that sort of a loss. I will genuinely be very excited if I can manage that consistently! (It definitely won't happen for me unless I'm exercising 4-5 times a week).

Thank you!! Having a check-up this afternoon, I´m hoping it looks good!

I was doing so well last summer (2023) and then I regained about 6- 7 kg (I had lost about 14)... It´s incredibly frustrating. But one reason I managed to maintain at least some of my previous weight loss (despite some massive challenges in my personal life) probably was because I had lost the weight in a sustainable manner (over a fairly long time period). I therefore definitely agree with you about avoiding the dreaded yo-yo.

1-2lbs may not be as much as we want but it is nothing to sneer at. And it really adds up when one sticks to it.
4-8 lbs in a month (or 8-16 lbs in two!) is really actually really impressive. That would be between (about) 20kg to 45 kg in year!

My weakness is cheese btw. (and dark chocolate...)

WeirdPookah · 12/01/2024 12:22

Weighed in this morning, nearly 4lbs down! 🎉

Total down in 2024 = 14.7lbs

Total down from Jan '23 = 56.6lbs

Been for a long walk this morning, carried heavy shopping back up a hill. Inventoried the chest freezer for some more batch cooking, wanted to get it done before the weather is supposed to turn really cold next week.

Going to get in an additional walk at school pick up time instead of sitting in the car waiting.

It's a tricky one, as years ago when I did the slimming clubs you'd be asked to say in the weekly meetings what you were aiming to lose for the next week and 2lb seemed to be the common achievable goal (and most did) and without too much formal exercise or none at all.

I ate a fair amount on those plans, and healthy stuff too not the pre-processed meals either. I don't do slimming clubs again now because I have no time for the meetings what with work, kids, and kids afterschool clubs etc. The meetings were sometimes 30+ people, so they could take a long time to get through. But they did re-educate my eating habits pretty well.

I could reasonably do 2lb per week off with not too much actual focused exercise just normal moving around, walking instead of driving short distances, taking the stairs not lift etc, IF I don't cave into snacking Grinwhich takes me over the calories amount. But without snack temptations, I personally find 2lbs do-able and not feeling hungry either. Everyone's different though of course.

@TicketyBoo11 Hi, I use this website: https://tdeecalculator.net/

Put in your details and then on the results page scroll down to "macro nutrients" and select the "Cutting" tab to find out your calorie deficit.

If you want to track carbs/protein/fats it also offers 3 options low carb/moderate carb/high carb.

It will also tell you your ideal weight too (slightly above the "macro nutrients" section).

Hope this helps :)

dodged the crisps/chips, stepped away from second helping and survived a special dinner with friends. an early lunar new year get together which means ++ salt.
two days to shift the expected water retention. all looks good for a decent weigh in on monday.

GiantPigeon · 13/01/2024 11:54

Today I've hit the milestone of 13st 0lbs.

I'm doing similar to @chalkyc2 and tracking kg/lbs/st&lbs/bmi so that I have a variety of round numbers to aim for as milestones.

The next milestone I'm aiming for is 180lbs.

abbs1 · 13/01/2024 21:39

Everyone is doing amazing losing weight each week. Can I ask how many calories people are aiming for? I've been doing 1400-1500 is that too much? Do I need to be aiming for 11-1200 instead? I'm doing 30-40mins of HIIT as well and so hungry 🙈 carbs are such a weakness for me.
Only lost 100g so far. I do walking in the day and nursery run etc as well. I've cut snacking and will have an apple/banana if I'm struggling. I definitely need to drink more water as I don't drink enough as well.

Mamafromthebeach · 13/01/2024 22:14
