I need to shift this weight (2.5-3 3 stone) I’ve overindulged on the lead up to Christmas and tbh after Christmas Day and today I feel sick so instead of waiting until January; I’m starting tomorrow. Going to do 1200 calories and limit carbs and alcohol where I can. I will let myself have a Prosecco or two New Year’s Eve, but want to start eating better now.
my daughter is 18 months so don’t have the just had a baby excuse anymore, it needs to come off before I get any bigger.

anyone else?

Yep. I'm in. I signed up to Noom again today. Want to lose a stone and a half, but realistically a stone.

Juststuff09 · 26/12/2023 19:23

Unfortunately I think I'm going to wait until Jan 2nd to truly get back on it. I've been a bit better this year in that I've made sure I've run most mornings and done 10,000 steps each day but I know I can't resist treats and nice food offerings when they're around

I eat well and normal for breakfast and lunch but allowing myself the cheese and biscuits and port in the evenings, a cocktail, a mince pie etc whilst they're still around but come Jan 2nd I will be back on it properly

sleepyscientist · 26/12/2023 19:24

3 stone to lose but starting in January. Going to do 1200 plus a minimum of 60 minutes on the bike a day.

Misspacorabanne · 26/12/2023 19:29

Yes I’m in! I have a stone and a half I’d like to lose! I’m doing 1500 calories a say, I don’t stick to it if I go to low!
chocolate is my down fall! And I’ve been in the habit of eating it every single day since my first child was born (6 years ago) I’m ashamed to say. I don’t want to go cold turkey as then I’ll crave it, so I might try a square piece of the very rich dark chocolate daily, and see how I go.

Violet877 · 26/12/2023 19:29

It is hard with all the food around isn’t it, I know I’m probably kidding myself about New Year’s Eve with the alcohol lying around and will probably drink more than I’ve said but I have to start trying tomorrow. I’m worried about gaining more and I know I have :( feel disgusted with myself for letting it get this far

This sounds like a good plan! If it’s within your cals nothing wrong with a small piece of choc, it’s whether you can stick to just that bit tho! I’m terrible at moderation which is something I need to work on for sure

Yes I'm in. Been running amok recently. Going to weigh myself in Boots tomo and get back on calorie deficit.

I'll join if that's ok

I have piled on the weight since I've been unable to exercise. It's entirely my fault and the only way I can lose it is by eating less so I need to get on with it.

Dp wants to diet but he only wants to start on 2nd Jan but if I don't start losing weight now, I won't fit back into my work clothes!

FestiveRobin · 26/12/2023 21:11

Just did my BMR and it was only 1287 😱

jamrolypolyandcustard · 26/12/2023 21:18

Not starting just yet (waiting until new year) but I'm determined to do it! Got two stone to lose before feeling "comfortable" and happy. I'm also 30 this year and feel so worried it's going to get even harder to shift 😭

Of course okay!
My clothes are getting tight on me now, I’m def just gonna cut back a bit until jan, might not entirely work but better than overeating until jan!

I'd love to join. I was so so good and lost 6kgs I wanted. Then I had a car accident and I'm only just allowed back to the gym.. I've eaten everything in sight for weeks and I feel gross! Weighed myself today and I am mortified. Think my boobs weigh a stone each though 😕 I used my fitness pal before and a mix of gym and classes. Lots of long walks

tinytemper66 · 26/12/2023 22:29

I am trying to get back into target with SW.
Am almost 1/2 stone over so need to get back in. Back on it tomorrow.
Went to a supermarket to buy fresh fruit and veg to make sure I can make an effort before next week as I am going away for 5 days. No drink for me until next week.
Good luck 🤞

Cherryana · 26/12/2023 22:31

Me I am in with you all - starting tomorrow.
I am going to do 75 days Hard-ish. Mainly using the app to tick off the accomplishments and for some reason I found (when I did it in 2021) taking a daily picture in the morning - felt like marking ‘today I am going to stick with it’.

Need to lose 1 stone to be okay and 2 stone to be at my goal. Seem to be able to look at a cake and put weight on.

CatVsTree · 26/12/2023 22:42

My BMR is 1300 so dropping 350-400 cals is not feasible. I want a deficit but I don't want a starvation diet.

Anyway, my plan is slow and steady. 1350 cals per day. No booze, lots of sleep, up the cardio.

Me! Aiming for 1200-1350 cals a day, and getting as much exercise in as CNN o can when I work 52 hrs a week!

Sorry this is false and downright dangerous information. To work out your deficit you need to work from your TDEE NOT your BMR. They are two very different numbers. OP and anyone else reading please disregard what @TheWeatherOutsideIs said.

Use an online calculator to find out your TDEE and then take your calories down from there. But it's not an exact science. 1600 cals will put most people in a decent deficit unless you're very short!

RantyAnty · 27/12/2023 03:38

Yes, I'm in. Might as well get a start now.
Hopefully can shift a pound or 2 by New Year.

Menora · 27/12/2023 06:56

I agree don’t try to eat 1200 calories it will be awful and likely fail. But yes it’s your TDEE you need to reduce from not your BMR! You might lose fast but you will also lose significant muscle mass no one should do that, your muscles are what you need. Eating VLCD is ok for short periods or if you have a very large amount of weight to lose but 3 stone or so will be very hard like that and miserable

It’s taken me 9 months to lose 3 stone I have 1.5 stone to go. Once it gets harder I have to exercise more (weights), to make more muscle to keep losing and had to start eating a lot more protein to do so but don’t worry about that at the start.

Doing a lot of cardio and eating 1200-1300 calories isn’t really going to be good for you, your body needs fuel. If you exercise a lot your TDEE will be much higher than your BMR. But never eat back your exercise calories via Fitbit or Apple Watch as they are always incorrect and over inflated

I am also starting again today but I have only had a few days off.

Ansjovis · 27/12/2023 07:43

As someone who has lost 3 stone (which is all I wanted to lose) and kept it off for well over a year now, I would urge you all to make slow changes. An all or nothing approach is not going to help you as it's very hard to stick to and when you eventually crack (which you will do if you're banning absolutely everything you like to eat!) you'll feel like a failure and therefore be starting the next time from a much worse position, psychologically speaking. I would suggest starting from a moderate (2-300 calorie) deficit from your TDEE then once you're in the swing of things with gradual adoption of healthy habits you can reduce a little further.
