I’ve been following this section with interest. I am just back from holiday and I felt awful, fat and unfit. I knew I needed to shift some lbs before but did not have the motivation… I do now, for my general health but also sad from seeing all these lovely slim women in Jean shorts and t shirts in the sun

i am:
44
5ft 11
and weigh 16 stone 4lbs as of today!!!

I know what I need to do, I start a new job in January and I NEED to be at least a stone down for then.

is there anyone in a similar position or has been? What did you do/are doing

thanks

Hi 👋 I'm 16.5 I could cry! Pre covid I was around 11 stone shocking I know and haven't shifted it! I'm 5ft7.

waistchallenge · 25/10/2023 12:38

If you take into account my shorter height I've been in a similar situation.

What have you tried so far? What are you willing to try?

GuffyTheDustBuster · 25/10/2023 12:39

I'm a few inches shorter, 10yrs older and half a stone fatter than you.

Am starting a 100 day gym/fitness program on Monday and she's promised if I follow her recommendations I will lose a stone by Christmas. I like the idea of a fixed time limit...

Couch25k · 25/10/2023 12:41

I walked 10k steps a day and ate 1300 calories a day…. I lost 2 stone but you guessed it I put it back in and more!

I was going to write out this long post about what I did, but that's basically how I did it. I'll try and find what I posted elsewhere and copy it, but it sounds like you know it already.

treeoaklane · 25/10/2023 12:46

I'm the same 39. Even tried off label Ozempic. Never again will I touch that stuff.

Orlistat helped me lose a stone.
I can't be bothered to exercise. I don't even eat much I'm just maintaining I would have to eat like a rabbit for it to come off 🤦‍♀️

Condo · 25/10/2023 12:50

Not sure if you want a buddy thread @Couch25k but I am 43, 5 7 and as of yesterday 15 10. I desperately want to shift some weight before Christmas as I’m actually moving away and also have a holiday on the way! I am planning on fasting, reducing carbs and adding weights to walking and gym workouts

Couch25k · 25/10/2023 13:13

@Condo yes please!!! How would you like to do this?

Couch25k · 25/10/2023 13:14

@waistchallenge have you managed to keep it off? Thanks for posting

Couch25k · 25/10/2023 13:17

@treeoaklane I can’t be bothered and I hate exercise, I have done C25k in the past and loved it, now I’m so unfit and unhappy…. I’m determined to walk every day which will shift some lbs and time my flabby thighs!

OP posts:
Bearpawk · 25/10/2023 13:22

Is there any exercise you can see yourself enjoying op?
Things that have worked for me:

  • Finding an exercise I enjoy (in my case, CrossFit, Zumba and peloton - not all at same time) exercise doesn't make me lose weight on the scales but I definitely look and feel fitter/ better. Try strength training too.

And some little changes that are more sustainable:

  • Walking more day- to- day
  • High protein/ healthy fat savoury breakfast to fill up rather than carbs
  • Aim for 30 fruit/ veg/ nuts/ seeds a week
  • Drink lots of water
  • Less ultra processed food, sugar, refined carbs - meals mainly veg
  • Healthy snacks in the house - fruit, nuts, peanut butter etc.

Good luck!

I feel exactly the same. I really want a tummy tuck and without losing this weight my flappy belly is just going to hang there forever.

Doggymummar · 25/10/2023 13:23

I was 18 stone 2 in march. Now 13 stone 10. Fast 800 and Ryselbus for me.

Couch25k · 25/10/2023 13:25

@Doggymummar wow!!! That’s certainly inspiring! How did you get through the lows (if you had any)

ManchesterLu · 25/10/2023 13:28

I've just started at exactly the same weight and just 1 inch shorter so we're almost twins!

What's made a difference for me this time is that I have 2 friends and we're all trying to lose the weight together. We have a WhatsApp group and share meal plans, exercise pics, progress pics etc. It just adds a bit more motivation than it would posting in here with strangers - although this is good too!

waistchallenge · 25/10/2023 13:30

Have you considered intermittent fasting, @Couch25k ? Basically you could stay on some mild form of it for ever to maintain.

waistchallenge · 25/10/2023 13:31

That's great @Doggymummar , do you have masses of clothes in all kinds of sizes now, like me? 😅

Condo · 25/10/2023 13:32

@Doggymummar that is amazing - off go google the Rye thing you mentioned.

My downfalls are bread and wine!

@Couch25k a weekly weigh in?

FannyBawz · 25/10/2023 13:35

I was size 18 in march and a now 10.

download my fitness pal
use it
do keto. If overeating is your thing then it will definitely help. I had a binge eating issue for decades and am now eating a normal amount of food.

I am also 49!

Couch25k · 25/10/2023 13:35

@Condo deal! And actually anyone else please feel free to join.

I have weighed today had my post holiday shock. Will post every Monday going forwards.

Ohyay · 25/10/2023 13:50

I was 16'10 In March. 5ft 10. I had an op and wanted to recover the best I could whilst I was off my feet. I ate high protein (I never felt hungry) I drastically cut down alcohol. Max of 2 drinks a week. Still had treats. Past month I have joined a gym. 3 times a week 30 mins cardio 30 mins weights.
Currently 14'3

I find high protein food from Aldi / Lidl etc are a game changer.

Lots of water.

Nothing has been off limits. Still had takeaways. Chocolate. Just naturally less as the protein keeps me full.

Best of luck. X

Condo · 25/10/2023 13:55

I will log on a weds so a week today!

Condo · 25/10/2023 13:56

@Ohyay i have been trying to find a weights workout to add to routine - what is yours?

Ohyay · 25/10/2023 14:10

I literally just go for 3 sets of 10 of the heaviest weights I can manage. There is a variety of machines at the gym so use about 3 or 4 each time.

I have decided to do what I enjoy as I know I will stick to it. Many a gym regime failed for doing things I dont enjoy. @Condo

eleanorwish · 25/10/2023 14:37

Hi OP, I'm 5ft 3 and weigh about the same as you! I feel like a barrel.
I've joined countless weight loss threads here, but have never kept it going.
I've just started doing the fast 800 diet, and am on Day 3 of living on 800 calories a day.
I've already lost a couple of pounds, but I'm sure that's mainly fluid
