Couch25k · 25/10/2023 12:34

I’ve been following this section with interest. I am just back from holiday and I felt awful, fat and unfit. I knew I needed to shift some lbs before but did not have the motivation… I do now, for my general health but also sad from seeing all these lovely slim women in Jean shorts and t shirts in the sun

i am:
44
5ft 11
and weigh 16 stone 4lbs as of today!!!

I know what I need to do, I start a new job in January and I NEED to be at least a stone down for then.

is there anyone in a similar position or has been? What did you do/are doing

thanks

What is the fast 800?

eleanorwish · 25/10/2023 14:57

It's a diet which was created by Michael Mosley ( who also popularised the 5:2 diet)

thefast800.com/

There's lots of threads about it in the fasting section of the weight loss topic here.

@Doggymummar wow!!! That’s certainly inspiring! How did you get through the lows (if you had any)

I've lost every week, so no lows. It's been quite straightforward except for the 🤢

Couch25k · 26/10/2023 19:41

Sneaky weigh this am…. 16st 3.6…. long may this continue

@waistchallenge have you managed to keep it off? Thanks for posting

Sorry, I missed that you asked me this. Yes, I have so far but basically I feel I've had to make some permanent changes. If I go back I will just gain and very fast, nothing has changed about that.

Basically I've realised that if I let myself I will always turn to a family size pack of crisps or a bar of chocolate etc. when I'm stressed or emotional. It is part of how I am, I think, so I have to keep a lid on it. As I'm an all or nothing person I can't just have the odd packet of crisps or a quarter of a bar of chocolate like some people. So I'm staying "off" them permanently. I try and have other treats now like a haircut, a new top or if it's food, very dark chocolate or my favourite fruit.

I feel OK with this and I just view it in a similar way to any other addiction that someone quits, like smoking or drink. I will do my best not to go back.

Couch25k · 30/10/2023 07:21

Good Morning. After a weekend full of birthday celebrations and friends popping over for impromptu drinks it was hard to be 100%, however I was mindful.

Weigh in today 16st 2lbs

This week is all about shifting that 2lb and hopefully more!

Have a good week 🤞🏻

I’m slowly losing weight by dropping most ( but not all) carbs out of my diet.

I know BIWI runs low carb sessions on here, but I’m doing it gently and mindfully and losing the pounds quite slowly. Occasionally I have a piece of bread, but more often stick to lentil cakes.

I’ve done the WW and lost it all, and put it back on again. I’m now menopausal (and pre diabetic) and it’s a whole different story.

Take a look at The Glucose Goddess on Insta. She has some helpful tips on how to keep your blood sugar steady, and also do a bit of research on improving your gut biome.

If you’re up for a challenge, try seeing if you can eat 30 different fruit or veg a week. Tea, coffee and spices all count too.

Awesome 😎

Starseeking · 30/10/2023 08:08

I'm about 5 stone heavier than I would like to be, and a size 16 rather than the 10-12 I used to be. Now I've got into a good routine with my DC (I'm a single parent) and work pattern, I've started up going to the gym at least once a week a couple of weeks ago, and stopped shovelling Haribo like it was the last "food" on earth.

Already I can feel my dresses are looser, and that's enough to encourage me to keep going. I've also stopped buying sweets and snacks because if they are in the cupboard, I will eat them!

Good luck and looking forward to the update on how it goes.

waistchallenge · 30/10/2023 08:11

Starting and the first few weeks are the most challenging, once you can see/feel the results I think it's wayyy easier.

kshaw · 30/10/2023 08:18

Can I join please? I'm nearly 39, post menopausal, edging around 17st and 5'7". I have joined the gym, as a single parent I can only go twice a week (had to take an anxiety tablet before I could go in!) But I did both sessions last week. I have joined team RH too, let's see how it goes! Really don't want to feel like a hoof on my holiday next year (little ones first trip abroad) and my 40th next year.
Aiming for 1lb a week!!!

THisbackwithavengeance · 30/10/2023 10:01

Would you consider a gastric balloon?

Couch25k · 30/10/2023 12:56

@kshaw welcome!!! Good to have you join, the more the merrier! Use this space to help you be accountable…. I am and hope not to bite anyone but it’s great to dip in and out and see the messages.

@Condo how you doing? I weighed this morning and I’m now :

16st 1 lb

going in the right direction I suppose

OP posts:
waistchallenge · 01/11/2023 07:51

That is perfect, it's not healthy to lose too fast. You can get gallstones.

Condo · 02/11/2023 16:07

A pound off 😫

PaminaMozart · 02/11/2023 16:27

My tuppence worth:

  • Intermittent fasting + no snacking: brunch, a healthy mid-afternoon snack, dinner.
  • Stop all crap food - UPF, sugar, refined carbs, sodas, juice, alcohol (just don't buy this stuff...)
  • Eat mostly plants, a fair amount of protein, plus small amounts of healthy fats, complex carbs a d dairy
I wouldn't count calories on a daily basis as it can become an obsession. Instead work out an example diet based on around 500 calories below the amount you'd need to maintain your current weight. That should give you sufficient guidance on how much food you're 'allowed'.

Exercise can be a powerful motivator and weight-based exercise is extremely useful, especially as we age. An easy way is walking with ankle and wrist weights. I wear them practically all day and I've got so used to them I barely notice them. (But check with your doctor if you have arthritis or osteoporosis. )

Short and easy YouTube workouts include Lucy Wyndham Read, Rebecca Louise, Heather Robertson, Jake Dupree and Sydney Cummings.

If you want to try more challenging workouts with dumbbells, check out Caroline Girvan. (I did and I never looked back!)

Ohyeahwaitaminute · 03/11/2023 08:53

I met Lucy Wyndham Read a few months ago. I had no idea who she was when I was introduced to her!
I now follow her on Insta. She’s lovely IRL.

riffraffroff · 03/11/2023 09:12

Exactly the same as you OP but have lost some recently partly due to BFing but I think the majority is from walking, I do so many nap walks!

I see walking has worked for you before, why did you stop? I think that's the answer. I'd try doing it without the severe calorie deficit. Just eat what you need and walk. Join a walking club. Make catch ups and socials active occasions - meet at the park. If you have a sedentary job buy a walking desk if needs be 😅

fallgirlyes · 03/11/2023 09:22

So if you want to lose weight, don't try fad diets like fasting/keto/cutting out carbs etc. whilst you may lose weight, you will put it all back on! You need to be active too. Start a plan that's sustainable! Some tips below.

Join a gym and aim to go three to four times a week, 30 mins minimum each workout! If you are unable to join a gym, get walking three to for times a week!

Lift weights! This creates lean muscle which then increases your metabolism.

Eat plenty of protein! With every meal have a protein based food, some carbs and a load of veg. It's filling, healthy and tastes great!

Cut down on sugar.

Join myfitness pal, this will help you count the calories you are consuming in a day. You can enter your current weight and your goal weight and this will advise on how many calories you need a day to reach your goal.

It's actually easy to lose weight and get in shape, you just need the motivation. If you don't have the motivation and days you can't be bothered to go, just go. Force yourself, you'll find you'll do better on the days that you 'can't be bothered'!

And most of all, think about how great you will feel in yourself Smile

woopdedoodle · 03/11/2023 09:30

Been there, 16 stone, 5'9. size 22.
Nothing changed till I got a dog, I'm not suggesting thats what you do , but it meant an hours walk ever morning and half an hour in the evening.
Dropped to size 18/20 over two years, stayed the same for 4.
Just recently gone low carb and I'm now 13 stone size 16.

I'd played around with low carb before and it didnt work, but basically I read ever label now, no fibbing to myself , and still walk the dog.

I can believe that Lucy is lovely IRL. She is so calm and gentle in how she explains her workouts - which I think is really helpful for people who are new to exercise. Not too challenging either, but nevertheless effective and therefore excellent for beginners.

Ohyeahwaitaminute · 04/11/2023 09:31

@PaminaMozart She said she’d started up before lockdown (before anyone knew it was going to happen) and within a few weeks of lockdown, her online audience had exploded! Good on her. She’s very approachable and lovely.

PaminaMozart · 04/11/2023 11:21

I think Lucy now has over 2 million followers, @Ohyeahwaitaminute !

Even though I've moved on to more challenging online trainers, I still do some of her workouts on a regular basis. I credit her Thighs & Glutes workouts for my strong legs! She also has a very useful beginners running workout series.
