I’ve been following this section with interest. I am just back from holiday and I felt awful, fat and unfit. I knew I needed to shift some lbs before but did not have the motivation… I do now, for my general health but also sad from seeing all these lovely slim women in Jean shorts and t shirts in the sun

i am:
44
5ft 11
and weigh 16 stone 4lbs as of today!!!

I know what I need to do, I start a new job in January and I NEED to be at least a stone down for then.

is there anyone in a similar position or has been? What did you do/are doing

thanks

Hi, I was similar at my start weight in august. Now 15.3.

I’ve done the fast weight loss, 4.5 stone in 5-6 months and it all piled back. I found myself with extremely obsessive calorie counting and restricted eating as a result.

now I’m setting NO targets around weekly weight loss. Just moving more, lifting weights more and eating 2-3 healthish meals. If I want fish n chips I have it, chocolate I have it. As long as the overall monthly tread is down, even by just 1lb I take it as a win.😊

im done with obsessing about numbers and looking a certain way. It’s now about all the other benefits being a lower weight brings, from a health perspective. I’m 40 this year so it may have something to do with it.

I have just started online Slimming World. The actual eating plan fits well into my life and with online, no classes to go to (always hated classes as found then massively patronising). I have a 'weight check in' once a week with a friend and so far that's helping me to keep focused.

I think it's hard to find the right thing for you/your life but when you do, it's definitely easier.

How is everyone doing? I'm 3lb down but slacked on the gym bit. Back there this week. Still aiming for 1lb a week 😊

Helpmegetajob · 29/11/2023 06:15

@kshaw thats great progress. I’m very slowly coming down, I think I’m just under a lb a week. I’m really not worried as long as I’m not going up!! Even if it takes me a year I’ll be happy 😊

what are you doing in the gym?

Can I join please. 56, 5'7" and 15stone 2lbs after coming out of the other side of chemotherapy.

I've lost 10lbs on online Slimming World in the last couple of months. It was going really well but then I went a bit off piste.

I did try 5:2 but I can't eat many eggs or full fat dairy as I have Familial Hypercholesterolemia. Michael Mosley reckons his diet is OK on cholestrol, my consultant doesn't and I'd rather take her advice.

SW works for me, I cook from scratch daily. It just seems really sensible, low fat and uncomplicated.

The most significant change I have made is less bread, for instance a free choice once a day is 2 slices from a small wholemeal loaf whereas before I might have had a thick slice of seeded toast and a sandwich from M&S for lunch (on that note the last sandwich I had was 23 points and I am allowed 15 a day ... I refuse to use the stupid 'syn' rhetoric).

Also, no wine 😭, I'd have a bottle most weeks, maybe six a month max.

I have started cycling to work, I probably only do six miles a day in all but it was/is easier to drive as I am always carrying loads of stuff and am time poor/always rushing to fit things in.

Very sad to be dieting during twiglet season but needs must.

I posted upthread just after starting the fast 800 diet.
After 5 weeks I'm down approximately 18lbs, so am now 15st 2.
Now working towards being 14 st something!
I know the weight loss is going to stall, or maybe even reverse over the Christmas period, but I'm going to try not to go too mad

Mainly cardio - I'm just managing twice a week as a single mum but it's making me feel better going. I'm trying to make myself so some weight machines but makes me quite anxious but getting there! I'm only aiming for 1lb per week, I've tried hammering the diets and it's not sustainable.

Weight machines and gyms make me anxious too!

I LOVE work8ng out with dumbbells. It's such a great way to get/keep fit and build muscle. Check out Caroline Girvan on YouTube - excellent workouts that you can do at home

I won't do it at home I know I won't so needs to be at the gym. I get a free half hour personal trainer sk might book that in!
