Ha! Yes @TheGreenSketch but I've always been a bit of an all or nothing kind so it suits me. Day 1 went well [she says smugly!]. I'll try to approach each day with similar enthusiasm. As someone who eats their feelings today will be tricky as I have my annual post BC mammogram this afternoon and as usual feel a bit wobbly about it. Hope we all have a good day.

poorpaws · 19/09/2023 08:30

Hi all newbies, welcome. It's so nice when new people join us. I hope you enjoy being with us.

It's not going well here after my collie all-nighter. I was speaking to other dog walkers and they'd been up all night with their dogs too. It takes me a long time to recover from this sort of thing.

I'm trying to start again today. Yesterday dd brought birthday cake and homemade cake is just so hard to resist. I can pass on shop bought cake but never on homemade. Dd serves large pieces too and I have some for today 🙈

Apart from cake news I did complete my 10,000 steps and forced myself to do exercises I really didn't want to do, so not all bad.

It's rotten weather today, rain and very windy here, so maybe a shorter dog walk as two out of three dogs hate getting wet.

Have a good Tuesday everyone. I'm not weighing after the last few days as I gain weight quickly after a chocolate binge and I just don't want to know. I WAS doing so well before my all-nighter and I'm quite upset with myself. 😤

Ah @poorpaws , it happens. Tiredness is the big one for me as well, I just reach for everything sweet and carby to see me through

I’m awake early today considering I’m not going to the gym, i was woken by the howling wind and rain so it seems I’m not going for a run either, I’m not a complete animal. So sat here with my cat and a coffee, looking at the dark outside and listening to the weather.

I’ve felt really tired this week because of my meds. I’m climbing snowdon this weekend (hopefully, weather permitting!) so really looking forward to a couple of days with my girlfriends and just chilling, although I will ‘lose’ my weekend I guess, plus evening meals will be sourced from pubs for 2 days. I’m doing a shop for packed lunches and breakfast things so I can keep those on track.

I weigh in for the first time at SW tomorrow, no idea at all how I will have done because I feel like I’ve eaten a lot, and although I did go over on the weekend due to alcohol, i have been under every other day and have eaten loads of fruit and veg. So I really don’t know, and I haven’t weighed myself at home at all which is a big change for me. I’d be happy with a couple of pounds off but who knows?

Theredjellybean · 20/09/2023 07:50

Poorpaws....it's ok...you had difficult few days, it happens.
@thenewaveragebear1983 ...pouring here too and I need to go for a run. I have a half marathon in two weeks and training went off schedule big time with back pain four weeks ago.
Now panicking rather...

thenewaveragebear1983 · 20/09/2023 08:20

@Theredjellybean have you done one before? Is it a flat (ish) course or a hilly grueller?

Theredjellybean · 20/09/2023 11:32

My last half was the weekend before the first lockdown.

Theredjellybean · 20/09/2023 11:33

This one coming up is flat .it's Royal parks

thenewaveragebear1983 · 20/09/2023 12:18

@Theredjellybean oh you’ll be fine then, you know what to expect! The biggest thing is hydration and sleep to be honest. I went through a phase of doing a lot of HMs but the biggest factor in them being hideous or not was not sleeping well the night before. My last one was February, I don’t think I’ve got one in me at the moment but I’d love to get my training back up to that level again. Good luck 🤞

Zebracat · 20/09/2023 13:16

Foul weather here too. But I took the dogs out, then felt I deserved lots of comfort food. We are going away to Wales at the weekend, and I really don’t know what season it will be or what to pack. Layers, I guess.

poorpaws · 20/09/2023 13:29

From next Monday it is 7 weeks to my birthday. If I can change things around, mainly my mindset, I can lose 7 lbs by then, right? Easy-peasy 🙄 (I so wish it was that easy).

OP posts:
gluttonousgoldbug · 20/09/2023 15:25

I know what you mean with the cake @poorpaws

I'm off work with a "poorly" 10 year old who midway through the afternoon decided she was well enough to bake fairy cakes. I've eaten 3. Plus some of the raw batter. You don't want to hurt their feelings by saying no... that's my excuse and I'm sticking with it.

You can definitely do 7lbs in 7weeks. Just in time for a slice of your own birthday cake!

triplecheeese · 20/09/2023 20:47

My goodness, I thought I'd been off the thread for a few days and I missed 50+ messages. It's been wonderful catching up with your posts. I am sorry to see you are having a hard time @Ledochas (though I didn't see your original post), wishing you all the strength you need.

@Theredjellybean i have run Royal Parks many times - it's my favourite half marathon in the world and you will have a BLAST.

@thenewaveragebear1983 roll on payday - I'm looking for a cord skirt and Tu sounds promising. Get thee to M&S, they've got some fab autumn jumpers slightly different to the several other jumpers I own

I've been sulking in a corner shamefully not coming on to the thread because I've been well off the wagon for weeks. No exercise, drinking way more than usual, eating late every night including the odd biscuit during the night... haven't got on the scales. Don't want to. But you are all being more determined than me and have inspired me to get back on it.

Please may I sound the NSV klaxon, though it's nothing to do with physical health - it's a mental health win - I finally left my rubbish stressful job!!!!! I've been very low, not able to sleep from worrying about it, and I finally feel like I'm on the up. New job soon. Need new (autumnal) clothes...

I'll weigh in on Monday, I promise! keep on keeping on people ❤️

poorpaws · 20/09/2023 21:08

Hi @triplecheeese strangely enough I was thinking about you today and noticing you'd gone AWOL. I was about to drag you back here this evening but you surrendered before I had chance.

I too have been having an awful dip in willpower (although I didn't run away 😡). I had been doing brilliantly until last weekend and it's been very much downhill ever since. I'm starting again next Monday. I can't do much before then as it's DPs birthday tomorrow and there will be fish and chips, triple ice creams, cake and goodness knows what else. This will be the second birthday this week and I've already succumbed to a lot of cake.

Anyway welcome back and we'll both re~start on Monday although I don't really want to weigh as I know it will be a hefty gain from me.

To everyone else, I hope you're all ok and trying your best (and doing much better than I am).

thenewaveragebear1983 · 20/09/2023 21:20

Well done @triplecheeese , when do you start your new job?

I’ve had a difficult day, I have been ravenously hungry and have eaten a lot of fruit and other bits to satiate my hunger (unsuccessfully) on top of my meals. I have stuck to my diet though, come in under my allowance so that’s good. I was really looking forward to a wedge of Stilton cheese as my cheese allowance today, but when I checked, it’s not allowed. Old me would have eaten it anyway but new me has decided no, I will wait and eat it when I can properly account for it.

I have prepped some bits for tomorrow because it’s my first weigh day, I can’t be grazing the fridge all day! I’ve done some toasted cauliflower in tikka spices, some quinoa and some grilled chicken thighs, which I will have as an early lunch.

poorpaws · 20/09/2023 21:22

@triplecheeese well fine on ditching the rubbish job too (I forgot to add that bit).

OP posts:
triplecheeese · 20/09/2023 22:07

Ahh happy birthday to your DP @poorpaws - fish and chips sounds wonderful. There's a family birthday in the Triplecheeese household too and this means a lot of cooking and baking for me this weekend. I love cooking but I'm rubbish at baking, I just can't follow recipes. Yes you are keeping me accountable - I couldn't stay away again 😜 we will get back on the horse/wagon driven by Mr Will Power together and roll on Monday!

cauliflower tikka sounds like a fab lunch @thenewaveragebear1983! You did brilliantly to stick to it, I'd have eaten the cheese then gone back to the packet. Are you feeling hungry most days?

New job new me next week. Just enough time to plan what to wear to look confident and collected. What are people wearing to work (office) these days???

Ledochas · 20/09/2023 22:46

Thank you @triplecheeese and anyone else I haven't thanked for well wishes.
I saw consultant yesterday and had a further MRI, awaiting results.

The consultant wants to operate but he also seemed positive that it could be benign, just nasty enough to remove and biopsy to avoid further risk given it's size and randomness.

He seems very experienced so I'm hoping the next scan backs up his views.
And surely an unexpected tumour removal equals weight loss (ignore my dark humour).
Although I kid you not, he reckoned it's become visible because of weight loss. Likely developed and grew while I was pregnant but I didn't notice it. Now 35lb lighter (inc baby!), it's visible. I mean what does that tell you? Women really do have the short end of the stick.

Anyway I'm feeling a good bit better. The shock has subsided. Luckily so has the gin consumption, less so the chocolate but hey ho.

Now I want fish and chips having caught up on the thread.

Ledochas · 20/09/2023 22:51

PS @triplecheeese good luck with new job and big big congrats for packing in the old one. Office... dark jeans and blazer?

And @thenewaveragebear1983 I'm intrigued for your weigh in. I've tried SW and WW before, most success was with WW but they all have their pros and cons. However you already eat healthily... my big losses were coming from a world of sinful eating! Look forward to hearing

thenewaveragebear1983 · 21/09/2023 06:30

@Ledochas 💐 I’m glad you’re feeling a bit better, everything is crossed for you

@triplecheeese I’m actually not hungry every day, I’ve really enjoyed my meals this week. I’m 3.5 weeks into my HRT and technically my period should have started, and I am finding the 2nd patches make me really tired, like waves of crushing exhaustion, which I think just caused the combination of sugar craving plus insatiable hunger yesterday.
your question re: what do people wear to work, I find it very odd. I work in a charity and we go to the office one day a week and it ranges from a very sharp black tailored suit and killer heels (for the women!) to all manner of shirt dresses, midi dresses, jeans… and trainers. This threw me totally after years of being smart in a school office. I bought a really nice pair of trainers which I only wear to work so they are still crisp and white and I tend to wear dresses/trousers etc. although I am going to invest in an autumn/winter wardrobe. The men, well one of them wears an AC/DC tee shirt and jeans 🤷‍♀️

@Ledochas i will report back after weigh in. I have found this week I’ve eaten a lot more fruit and veg than I normally would, I have wholeheartedly followed the rules and had half a plate of veg with every meal. I have also, while I did eat healthily previously, made some changes that I’d hope have cut a few calories overall (eg my mayo which when I actually weighed it, was around 220 calories 😱 switched to extra light and weighed out which is 15!) - so it will be interesting to see if I have lost.

but- and here’s my disclaimer- I did effectively have the weekend off. I’m having this weekend pretty much off- next weekend I also have a double birthday in our house Friday and Saturday - and the following weekend dh and I are going to a fancy spa which was a gift for my 40th (so another weekend off). Oh, and then I’m getting a puppy. 🤦‍♀️ so my aim has been entirely damage limitation really rather than impressive weight loss.

I was definitely meant to see this thread popping up in 'active' because I was just thinking about it yesterday! I arrived near the beginning of the first thread, dropped off, came back and dropped off again. My commitment to weight loss has been out the window due to a few very difficult events in my life, but I do remember how lovely it was here, just chatting about this and that in among all the actual weight loss stuff! So I hope you don't mind if I come back and join in a bit. I was Funnywonder back then.

poorpaws · 21/09/2023 08:09

@Tessisme hi, I remember you well and before you were funnywonder too. Lovely to have you back and I hope you stay this time 😁 we've got @triplecheeese back too from the early days, remember her?

We seem to be drowning in birthdays here, so many of them and they are so difficult to navigate. DPs birthday is the last one here until mine in 7 weeks. He had a health scare some months ago and has been healthy eating since then so fish and chips are a real treat for him (and me).

I always buy him a ton of chocolate every year, mainly Lindor, his favourite. This year he has a huge hessian bag full of nuts and dried fruit and lots of other healthy options with just one bar of dark chocolate. It just doesn't seem as nice but I've spent a lot of time and effort to buy some unusual flavours.

It's fine here today. DP loves walking so I'll bet the car stays at home and we'll walk to our favourite fish and chip shop with the dogs and probably sit on the sea front like the real oldies we are 😔

Thanks for the lovely welcome back @poorpaws😊 Yes, I remember triplecheeese (hello!!) I'm going to see if there are a few other familiar names, but I changed mine, so I guess others may have too. I don't really make a habit of it - just take a wee notion once in a while!

I was doing 16:8 reasonably successfully for a couple of months and lost almost a stone. I had reached 12st which is the heaviest I've ever been. Last time I checked I was 11st 1lb, but I have been comfort eating so there's a chance I've strapped a few Cornettos and tubes of Pringles onto my waistline. My eating window is more of a sliding patio door at the minute😆

Sedgwick · 21/09/2023 12:26

Hi everyone, I wobbled last night and had 2 large g&ts and as night follows day I then ate 4 bags of crisps, I shouldn’t have them in the house but the teens sometimes want them. I had managed 17 strict fast 800 days. Back on it today. Gin has been moved into the garage.

@Ledochas happy to hear your news.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 21/09/2023 20:14

4lbs off at my first weigh in! Very pleased with that 👍

poorpaws · 21/09/2023 20:24

@thenewaveragebear1983 WELL DONE that's a great loss. I'm delighted for you, it's so well deserved.
