I was doing slimming world until last night. I was doing it since June and haven't lost a single pound since Aug.

I think it's time for change. I am starting WW on Tuesday. Any body else up for joining me.

Hi, am thinking of doing WW and have a couple of questions...

On the core plan : what sort of things are allowed? What happens about oil in cooking and things like that?

On the points plan : if you make food from scratch do you have to do some long winded adding up for every meal? If you know calories and fat content can you work it out from that?

Thanks

SP xx

lizandlulu · 18/04/2008 21:37

i dont understand the core plan, but know that you are ment to eat fresh home cooked food rather than bought stuff. on the points plan you have a set amount of points a day eg 22 points for me, and all the food for the day comes out of the points allowance.
on the core plan, you have something like 17 points a week for treats, and the rest of the time, you have to eat core foods, eg, fresh food not pre packed.

to calculate the points in home cooked can be difficult, but i always jot it down so i know for next time, and once oyu have been doing it for a while, you can get to know roughly what things are.

Riallyclean · 18/04/2008 22:17

I've had a good day and the only thing (so far) that I've eaten I hadn't pointed was a bag of apple slices from a Morrisons cafe kids box that were in the car when I was having a water break at work

I have pointed for a couple of mini indian snacks to go with my Tesco lighter choices jalfrezi - any minute now (I know it's bad to eat late, but if I'd had it at teatime I would be snacking now) - and a couple of glasses of wine.

Plus work is physical so should have some exercise points under my belt.

I had a question but I've forgotten it

I am

Riallyclean · 18/04/2008 22:19

I've remembered - is salsa free? And how cheesy are the WW cheesy nachos thingys? (I am VERY fond of doritios and salsa dip but don't like cheese). I might try raw veggies too, but I'm not keen onthem raw (I'm also off fruit a bit).

GOOD LUCK FOR THE WEEKEND!!! (especially me!)

LovesTents · 18/04/2008 22:42

Hi all, just looking in, I've being going to WW for the last 12 weeks and at last lost my first stone yesterday at weigh-in - WOO HOO!
Still another one and a half to go though..

Keep at it girls , it's definitly worth it when you lose that weight- I keep thinking of having
to get into a swimsuit in July

If you have a bad week , which I have most certainly have had a few of, keep going to your meetings- this is what has worked for me so far.I knew if I didn't go then I'd be too afraid to go the next week, going to the meetings has got me back on track each time.
I love WW!

Riallyclean · 18/04/2008 22:43

well done LovesTents.

andyrobo237 · 19/04/2008 20:24

Wow Lovetents - that is fab - you will soon be slinky for that july hol.

mixedmama · 20/04/2008 12:13

Salsa classes at gyms aree stuff will either be included in membership or you pay separatley.

If you go to a salsabar that has lessons before drinking time then they are generally free, just make sure you dont drink too many cocktails to counter your hard work.

I used to go salsa and i promise you it is a proper workout. I used to wear a vest top and jeans in January and do the class then dance for about an hour and a half and I would not put my coat on till i got on the bus to go home as I would be sooooo hot and sweaty. it is such good fun tho.... I absolutley loved it. Would love to go again.

lizandlulu · 20/04/2008 16:03

i think riallyclean ment salsa dip!!!!

best laugh i have had all day!!

laughalot · 20/04/2008 16:24

This is my first week and my scales say iv lost 7lb im not doing the classes but think my scales must be wrong .

lizandlulu · 20/04/2008 16:33

laughalot, that is great! why would the scales be wrong? dont think that!

laughalot · 20/04/2008 16:49

They are digital and a bit crap at times I know I have lost some as my jeans are falling down a bit. I do lose alot my first week I always have done when re joining weight watchers.

lizandlulu · 20/04/2008 16:53

you must have lost a fair bit for your jeans to be loose. well done

oregonianabroad · 20/04/2008 18:49

HI All,
well done on your progress, laughalot and lovestents -- I love to hear things like that to keep me motivated.

I haven't had the best day today, as expected, since it was a party for my 2 dses, but when I totted up what I'd had (and I tried to be honest), I still didn't max my points (but I do get 24, thank god -- I presume as you lose, you get points deducted?? god help me when that happens!). However, I shall have to go to bed early to resist temptation at snack time, and I think I had too much wine last night, but I went for a walk to make up for it.

Rially, i think salsa (the dip, don't know about classes, heehee) is half a point, but I don't see why, since it's made with free point stuff??! BTW, it's really nice on rice cakes or ryvita, especially nice with either of those and a timy bit of lite cream cheese. mmmmmm.

Feeling good tho and looking forward to next week. Good luck, losers!!

oregonianabroad · 20/04/2008 18:51

OH, I meant to ask, is there a short list of zero point foods anywhere?

Riallyclean · 20/04/2008 19:33

I used to do salsa classes too (til I got sciatica) I loved it too - about a much as I like doritos with salsa dip.

Well done on those losses.

andyrobo237 · 20/04/2008 21:20

I have been really good over the last few days - dont know why and have felt a bit hungry at times, but have had loads of salad and veg and tried to restict potatoes and bread, as I dont think they help me to lose weight.

laughalot - I wouldnt think that digital scales are not accurate, and if your jeans are looser, then you have definately lost some weight - stick to it and you will be having to buy new jeans in a few weeks in a size smaller!!!

LovesTents · 20/04/2008 22:09

Hi all, has anyone been to this site yet www.freewebs.com/noreenblackett/ it's great, seems to be quite accurate on her points.

LovesTents · 20/04/2008 22:14

Oops, I see it has been mentioned earlier on!

Have many of you bought the digital scales? I haven't but think I will next week - I was doing core up until last week but have now changed to points so I'd say it will come in handy..

oregonianabroad · 21/04/2008 07:29

Morning,
I am delighted to announce that I have dropped 5 pounds since last Thursday!!!!!! Whoohoooie! But I am guessing it is easier in the first week as your body gets over the shock of changes to your daily level of calories. I can really see a difference in my face though.

On a more serious note, that does mean I have less points... so, not so easy this week on 22! Must do more exercise.

PS: when it says in 'your current occupation are you mostly sitting/standing/etc...' I put sitting for work, but I only work 2 days/week -- the rest of the time I am chasing after 2 toddlers, so surely I should count that as being more active? What did other mums do?

Good luck, ladies.

ShortandSweet · 21/04/2008 08:29

Hi all and well done on all the loses.

Oregoniana I would put it as sitting at work and then you can earn extra points for all the running around you do when your off. My leader said you can eat an extra 12 points a week when you earn more. Other people say there leader put it at 4pts a day.

I have had a crap weekend as I have been away hopefully I can claw some loss back by Wed.

LovesTents · 21/04/2008 10:37

Well done on the loss oregonianabroad, that's a great loss!
It's great when you see a difference in your appearance isn't it? I have that face thing too - it gets really chubby quite quickly but when I lose a bit I really notice it in my face and others do too

I wonder what to do about the occupation thing too..I'm a SAHM , but certainly no clean freak so some days I'm busier than others - I don't drive though so i suppose I walk quite a bit!

oregonianabroad · 21/04/2008 12:11

lovestents, do you point up your walking under activity? You could get a few extra points that way.

LovesTents · 21/04/2008 13:48

Hi , no I don't really point it ,I'm afraid I might get it wrong and go over my points.

mixedmama · 21/04/2008 16:28

How am I at the salsa thing!!!! Still it is great exercise tho

I do a lot of walking as well but I dont point it as I done this before WW too so doesnt really seem like extra activity IYSWIM.

I am going back to work from mat leave on Friday tho so think i may do better with my points, seems easier to control when i work rather than being at home with the kitchen just down the corridor.

I have been a little rubbish this week as Imissed weigh in and didnt get my little sheet for tracking points.... ridiculously silly really as I have a pad that i work meals out in and i just couldnt track properly this week... really silly as it is exactly the same.
