OMG - I just weighed myself

Hairyfairy01 · 11/08/2023 11:49

So for the first time since Covid I weighed myself and at 5 foot 7 I am 16 stone, 9 pounds! I'm horrified. I used to run a lot and be around 12/13 stone which I was ok with. Lockdown stopped me exercising and I never got back into it.

I have just joined a gym which does lots of classes working on strength as well as cardio. I have also started couch to 5 k and my fitness pal (again).

I know I need to eat better (and less) and my main issue is what goes in my mouth. However I do enjoy exercise so I'm hoping there is less chance of me eating 3 doughnuts after doing a fitness session.

Anybody in a similar place who wants to join me for some accountability?

Hi @Hairyfairy01
I can completley relate to what you have said. I am 5ft 8 and 16 weeks ago, I weighed myself and I was 14 stone 2. I started following a ketogenic lifestyle, scaling down carbs, and all the rubbish out of my diet. 15 weeks later, to this current day, I am now 11 stone. I walk a minimum of 10,000 steps a day and do alternate Day fasting. I have reached my goal weight but I still continue with my lifestyle change as I feel better when I am following Keto so will prob continue to loose weight until my body says enough. I hope you are able to eat better and get active to improve lifestyle and shed the weight you desire. Keep strong and focused. Don't get discouraged.

All the best. X

Hi OP, I won’t join but I will offer some support and maybe some inspiration. Today I am the lightest I have been for around 10 years. BUT more significantly for me, I have the best bum I can remember having in my adult life and I look visibly stronger overall.

I joined the gym 11 months ago but it’s only on the last six months that I’ve refined my routine to a HIIT class, a weights class and one aerobic class a week. I have been drinking a protein shake for breakfast and more recently have been calorie counting too.

Following advice on here I use Nutracheck rather than MFP and find it much more accurate and suited to UK products.

Good luck, it’s amazing once you find your groove.

I would love to join you. I had the same moment on Wednesday. I weighed myself for the first time in ages, knowing I had put on a little weight and was surprised to be 11 stone 7lb. I am 39 and 5”5.
around 2 years ago I was 11 stone 3 and brought my weight down to 10 stone 4 by using my fitness pal and doing couch to 5k.
I re-downloaded the C25K on Wednesday and did my first run, I’m going to do my second this afternoon around 5 once my partner is home from work.
I am starting a new job in 4 weeks and I ordered a lot of new clothes but all the trousers (size 12) are too tight. I have set myself a three week challenge to see if I can slim down into them so I don’t have to buy more in a bigger size. I do think just a couple of lbs might do it but my overall goal is to get down to around 10stone 4.
I haven’t started using mfp yet as have a rough idea of what I need to do food wise. For the next week or so I am going to stick with my regular breakfast of granola with a sliced banana and milk. Mid morning snack at work is raspberries with Greek yogurt and flakes almonds. Lunch is currently a ham salad sandwich with crisps, a babybel, apple and alpro yogurt then my regular normal evening meal with family. I would normally eat an awful lot of chocolate, I would think nothing to eating a full share bar in one sitting so I am cutting it out pretty much completely through the week but will allow myself the odd treat, I’m thinking Saturday evening might be when I pick something to have for a treat.
I haven’t changed much from my food apart from cutting really down on the junk so may need to look at lower calorie options if I don’t see much happening weight wise after a little while.
so here we go:
current weight 11 stone 7lbs
first goal weight 11 stone
overall goal weight 10 stone 4lbs

looking forward to sharing the journey with you

Great to hear so many positive stories and well done on your weight losses. I'm not sure if I am disciplined enough for fasting, although I appreciate it can really work. I'm hoping that as my diet was so poor some basic changes will make a big difference, at least initially.

How did your run go #Maybethisisit? I started on week 3, run 1 and just about managed. Aiming to do 3 a week. I was at a kettle weight class yesterday and can really feel it on my quads today. I managed to go under my calorie count yesterday on MFP so pleased with that. Another thing I want to do is increase the amount of water i drink.

Starting weight 16.9

First target weight 16.0

Overall target weight 12.0

That's amazing!!! I think I'm going to do the same.,, my body responds well to fasting!

Mammyloveswine · 12/08/2023 13:37

@Hairyfairy01 I'm only 5 foot 5 and was shocked to be 216 pounds!! (Can't change scales but think that's around 15.5 stone).

Currently 207 pounds...

Been inadvertently fasting as been so busy with work but now going to do it properly and combine with exercise! (And ditch the wine that has become a far too unhealthy habit!).

Maybethisisit · 12/08/2023 14:46

@Hairyfairy01 the run wasn’t too bad although my shins are hurting alittle already. Last time I did c25k I got shin splints, I warm up before running and even have some shin splint leg covers but nothing seems to stop me getting them. Luckily it’s not too bad so I can still run but might find it more difficult as I go through the weeks and up the running time so I will see how I go.
I have been considering trying a 16:8 fasting but it doesn’t fit in with my current job which is pretty physical and I start at 6am but I only have one week left and then I have two weeks at home before starting my new job which is office hours so I might try and do all my eating between 11am-7pm and see how I get on
I have also been trying to up my water intake as if I don’t consciously think about it can go all day without a drink. I’ve bought a 900ml water bottle and have been making sure I drink at least 2 a day minimum but would rather 3-4
i have bought a small (ish) bar of gluten and dairy free Galaxy salted caramel chocolate as my Saturday treat. My plan is to only eat chocolate on a Saturday evening and to limit it to a smaller portion than I would normally have and allow myself a dessert on Sundays if we eat out and I really fancy one but none through the week

AllGrownUpp · 12/08/2023 14:53

I started cutting down on carbs almost five weeks ago and am eating three healthy meals a day. I have lost just over a stone, I haven’t done any exercise apart from
my regular class as is makes me hungry and I normally end up eating more calories than I burned off.
As an extra I ditched my daily Fanta Zero or diet cloudy lemonade as well.

Maybethisisit · 15/08/2023 09:29

How are you getting on @Hairyfairy01
ive not had a great couple of days, I haven’t been for a run since Friday and although my diet hasn’t been terrible and I’ve not eaten a lot of junk it could have been better. I weighed myself on Friday and was 1lb down but this morning I back at my starting weight. My first week ends tomorrow and it doesn’t look like I will see much difference so I’m going to have to up my game.

Maybethisisit · 15/08/2023 13:08

I managed to not have breakfast until 11am today 😊 I had a bowl of strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and banana with a handful of mixed nuts, some granola and soya yogurt. It’s my day off work today so a bit of a lazy day but I’ve nipped to the shops to pick up a parcel and get a couple of bits and done a few loads of washing. I’m planning a ham salad sandwich for lunch, probably around 2 and then a fish salad for tea around 6:30. I’m going to do my final run of week 1 c25k this afternoon too

Well done on your weight loss. Sounds like you are doing great. I have a severe Diet Coke habit as well, I need to ditch it but not quite brave enough yet!

@Maybethisisit sounds like you are doing great on the eating front. How was the run? I tend to fluctuate in weight a lot depending on the time of the month, perhaps that's the case for you as well? I tend to lose lots of weight initially and then it slows right down so I get disheartened and quit.
I went to another fitness class tonight which I really enjoyed. The instructor was less shouty and more supportive which is what I need at this point. I haven't run since Friday. Hoping to fit one in tomorrow morning.

I'm still logging food on MFP but I'm out for the day tomorrow with my dd. I'm going to take a picnic and hope I don't do too much damage.

I’m a similar height and weight to you @Hairyfairy01. I really need to get a grip and sort myself out as at the moment I feel hideous. I start with good intentions and then fail. Massively. But it can’t go on.

IncognitoMam · 15/08/2023 20:55

I need to lose weight but it's definitely harder the older you get. I'm 5 8 and 13 st 6.
I didn't eat until tonight at 6 and that was salmon with salads. Dh makes coleslaw, Florida salad etc. He also made a loaf of 8 seeded bread and I've had a slice with Philadelphia cheese on. It's so delicious I'm having to stop myself having more 🙈

I've been pretty active at work. But I do need to do more HIIT.

Good luck everyone. Some great results already on here.

Fifireee · 15/08/2023 20:58

5’9 and I am now 14.2. I was 15 stone but I’ve lost a bit.
I’m plateauing at the moment so I need a kick.

This is exactly how I was last Friday. It got to a point when enough was enough. I felt awful, so unfit and no clothes other than big tents were fitting. Come and join us! I honestly feel better already, just because I have began to take control I think. It's going to be a long journey mind!

I hope you can be inspired on here. Just think how good you'll feel once you lose your first half a stone? I can't wait for that.

Your tea sounds lovely. I like doing exercise even though I'm not very good at it. It feels good to be 'active' again.

I'm still exercising but not eating properly. I need to get back on it.

Hairyfairy01 · 15/08/2023 21:24

I find the eating part the worst. I love food and have a sweet tooth and a craving for bread and cheese! I'm getting on well with MFP atm, I like the way if I exercise more I can eat more. What normally works for you?

Hello! I had a face to face last week at the Dr to review my HRT and realised that I have put on a stone in a year. I'm 5'8" and weight 16 1/2 stone. I cycle 40 miles a week to work but love wine and refined carbs. I'm 50 this year and ache all the time. I also look and feel old. I will join you in a low carb/sensible eating just as soon as I finish eating this snack a jack.
