OMG - I just weighed myself

Hairyfairy01 · 11/08/2023 11:49

So for the first time since Covid I weighed myself and at 5 foot 7 I am 16 stone, 9 pounds! I'm horrified. I used to run a lot and be around 12/13 stone which I was ok with. Lockdown stopped me exercising and I never got back into it.

I have just joined a gym which does lots of classes working on strength as well as cardio. I have also started couch to 5 k and my fitness pal (again).

I know I need to eat better (and less) and my main issue is what goes in my mouth. However I do enjoy exercise so I'm hoping there is less chance of me eating 3 doughnuts after doing a fitness session.

Anybody in a similar place who wants to join me for some accountability?

Hello! I had a face to face last week at the Dr to review my HRT and realised that I have put on a stone in a year. I'm 5'8" and weight 16 1/2 stone. I cycle 40 miles a week to work but love wine and refined carbs. I'm 50 this year and ache all the time. I also look and feel old. I will join you in a low carb/sensible eating just as soon as I finish eating this snack a jack.

Welcome! You are a similar weight and height to me. Impressive amount of cycling there! But I guess like so many say it's also what goes in the mouth. I'm mid 40's and finding its so much harder to lose weight compared with 10 years ago, and a lot of my weight is round the middle.

Hi @Hairyfairy01 I'm similar! All down to being lazy and eating too much during lockdown. I am 5'11'' and was 17 stone last week. Now down to 16 stone 11. I'm doing keto, but would love to join in a weekly weigh in?

I'm also mid 40s. X

Hairyfairy01 · 15/08/2023 22:18

Of course @bellabelloo, join us. I've looked into Keto, and I've heard some amazing things about it, but I don't think I could be that strict with my diet. Well done on your weight loss so far, it's not easy is it. My 'weigh' day is Friday. I tend to lose quite a lot in the beginning, but it's keeping the will power when the weight loss slows down I find difficult. But I can't carry on as I was. Month upon month getting slowly bigger and bigger x

I'm not into Whatsapp groups but great for those who want to. I'm in a few Facebook groups but non for weight loss.

I'll keep posting here and reading about everyone's progress.

IncognitoMam · 16/08/2023 11:22

13.4 today.

I've just had a coffee with milk and a bit of honey. Stirred in collagen as bought it a while ago and keep forgetting to use it.
Not working today so me and dh are going for a hike. I'm going to do some arm exercises with weights later. It's a YouTube video but really effective.

Hope everyone else has a positive day 😊

Hairyfairy01 · 18/08/2023 11:05

How's everyone getting on? Sounds like everyone is doing great and remaining motivated. I have stuck to MFP and not gone over my calories. I'm done another run from the couch to 5 k app and 2 circuit based classes with another booked for tonight. Overall I'm feeling positive. I also weighed myself this morning and since this time last week I have lost 7 pounds which I'm delighted with. However I did tend to lose a lot in the beginning and then it slows right down.

Starting weight 16.9

Current weight 16.2

First target 14.0

Overall target 12.0

Hi everyone,
Can I join?
I am 54, 5 foot 7, 14 stone. BMI hitting 30 and far too much weight around the middle. Very sedentary job.
I recently had bloods done and they've come back 'pre-diabetic', cholesterol is 'borderline high' and my blood pressure is very high in the afternoons. So I really need a life style overhaul and could do with someone to share the good days and the bad days.
I start a new job in October and could do with shifting half a stone before then, as a short term goal. Longer term, I'd like to get below 12 stone and for the health flags to go away.

Of course, the more the merrier, we're all in the same boat. How are you planning to shift the weight? I'm doing my fitness pal and going to circuit based classes in the gym 2/3 times a week and have restarted couch to 5k, but we are all different in what works for us.

IncognitoMam · 18/08/2023 11:58

Batshit what was your cholesterol reading? It's good you've decided to do something. We'll all support each other.

I've had twinnings green tea with mint this morning and nothing else so far. I'm not particularly hungry but think I'll have an egg as I'm out with adult dss later for tea and don't want to go mad 🐷

Is everyone weighing daily?

BatshitIsTheOnlyExplanation · 18/08/2023 12:03

@IncognitoMam The Dr didn't give the actual number (phone call) - I need to get a transcript of the results.

@Hairyfairy01 Phase one is to drink far less wine and stop eating the sugary crap which is constantly available at work. I've got chicken salad for lunch. I definitely need to address the exercise situation, but might need to ease in gently (yes, I am very lazy in that respect, but also have very creaky joints, so it's not 'simply' a case of putting on trainers and off I go).

BatshitIsTheOnlyExplanation · 18/08/2023 12:04

I usually only weigh myself about twice a year, but think I should move to once or twice a week.

You?

flapjackfairy · 18/08/2023 12:07

I have struggled all my adult life with my weight but easter this year I decided to go low carbs and cut out most of the junk. I have lots 17 pounds quite painlessly and I feel so much better.
I eat lots of protein like eggs , cheese , steak , nuts etc and lots of salad etc . I am not feeling hungry all the time like I used to and I was honestly addicted to sugar but can take it or leave it now.
It has been a revelation to be honest and I don't want to go back to my old habits though that is always the risk as healthy eating takes planning and more effort than stuffing down a few biscuits.

Twice a year? I've been doing daily. Lost another pound but obviously it comes off quicker at first.

TotalOverhaul · 18/08/2023 12:27

Can I join you? I'm 5'4" and nowhere near scales as working away from home for a while but my guess is I am around 11st 10-12 stone judging by my shape, so back to the heaviest I've ever been.

i really want to start a rapid loss kick start diet to motivate me, and then eat healthily and exercise a lot with the aim of losing at least 2 stone: 30 lbs loss would be ideal for me.

I'd love some tips on emotional eating. I eat from boredom, frustration, desire for small reward, all sorts of reasons not in any way related to hunger or nourishment. Really want to change that.

TotalOverhaul · 18/08/2023 12:29

AllGrownUpp · 12/08/2023 14:53

I started cutting down on carbs almost five weeks ago and am eating three healthy meals a day. I have lost just over a stone, I haven’t done any exercise apart from
my regular class as is makes me hungry and I normally end up eating more calories than I burned off.
As an extra I ditched my daily Fanta Zero or diet cloudy lemonade as well.

Did ditching the zero calorie sweetened drinks help/ I'm intrigued by the conflicting info on these as I was planning on having some as back ups for sugar cravings.

Hairyfairy01 · 18/08/2023 12:30

I hadn't weighed myself for about 3 years - hence the shock! I'm aiming to weigh once a week now.

somethinghastochangesoon · 18/08/2023 18:53

Op I am the same height and was 16 stone 7 on 22nd May.

Today I am 14.4.

I've cut out alcohol, sweets, takeaways and have been having fruit or one egg and ham for breakfast, near/fish salad for dinner (a proper one not a potato salad, coleslaw heavy one but a real one with low fat dressing) and then meat/fish with veg for tea.

I'm walking 15-20k steps a day and it's working for me.

Hairyfairy01 · 20/08/2023 20:15

Well done on your weight loss @somethinghastochangesoon, that's an amazing achievement in a short space of time.

How is everyone doing. I've managed to keep within my calorie allowance despite it being the weekend which I'm pleased with. I'm a bit sick of eating eggs mind! I also have more circuit classes booked for tomorrow and Tuesday. Trying to keep motivated!

LighthouseCat · 20/08/2023 20:28

I'm not overweight (yet!) but since hitting mid-40s I've gained a stone without even noticeably doing anything different (I'd been a stable weight for years). When people say they are cutting out carbs, is this mainly pasta? Also, we eat dinner really late, is this bad for weight loss? I do drink so I think stopping that during the week should be one quick win (as long as I don't replace it with some other calorific vice!

Hi @Hairyfairy01
I can completley relate to what you have said. I am 5ft 8 and 16 weeks ago, I weighed myself and I was 14 stone 2. I started following a ketogenic lifestyle, scaling down carbs, and all the rubbish out of my diet. 15 weeks later, to this current day, I am now 11 stone. I walk a minimum of 10,000 steps a day and do alternate Day fasting. I have reached my goal weight but I still continue with my lifestyle change as I feel better when I am following Keto so will prob continue to loose weight until my body says enough. I hope you are able to eat better and get active to improve lifestyle and shed the weight you desire. Keep strong and focused. Don't get discouraged.

All the best. X

Sorry to jump in!

when you say day fast so mean mean fasting for 24 hours?

Hi @LibbyL92
I stop eating by 6pm the latest and go a whole day without eating. This works out to be around 36 hours minimum depending on when I feel hungry the morning of my feast day

My schedule that I am on now looks like this:
Last meal: Sat 19th August at 15.30
Next meal: Monday 21st August around 9am ish
Total fast time 41+ hours
I am currently 29 hours into my fast which I will end tomorrow morning.

Does that make sense?

Hairyfairy01 · 20/08/2023 21:53

Crikey that's a long time, I think I would faint! Did you work your way slowly up to that long? How does it make you feel?

OP posts:
HealthierHabits2023 · 21/08/2023 02:14

@Hairyfairy01 because I follow the ketogenic lifestyle, its easier to do longer fasts as your body becomes adapted. Over the months of my weight loss journey,
I did try fasting 24 then 36 hours just to see what they were like, I then progressed onto 48 and 72hours.
It takes a lot of will power not to give up and eat, especially when I'm cooking for my family and then not sitting to eat with them.

I have got use to this now and I enjoy my fast days just as much as my feast days. I love food but its nice not having to worry about what to eat every day.

I do notice that on my fasted days, the night approaching my 30 hour mark I struggle sleep ( hence why it's 02.15 and I'm awake at hour 34 of my fast)

For me, fasting is very enjoyable and I can honestly feel the difference of my body when I am fasted to when I eat. Its a nice feeling.

coronafiona · 21/08/2023 05:02

@HealthierHabits2023 please can you tell me what you eat each day? I'm exactly the same stats as you!

HealthierHabits2023 · 21/08/2023 05:23

@coronafiona I start my day with 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar in water with lemon juice. Around 30 mins later I have a black coffee unsweetened.

I will then have a small piece of lean protein usually some chicken breast to ease my digestive system back to work.

Breakfast is usually around 9am and I will have 2 eggs stuffed with a small amount peppers, chicken red onion and cheese. I let the cheese melt and fold the eggs over to make a sandwich.

This takes me till around 2pm-3pm where I will have a beef steak and two or three eggs depending on the size of the steak.

I do make peanut butter fat bombs and Blueberry muffins that I will have to increase fat intake. I made the Blueberry muffins yesterday (sunday) so yet to see what they are like. My husband tried them and I had to hide the rest so I assume they are nice. Daughter loved them too and wants to start low carb herself.

I tend to enjoy what I eat so have kept it the same for a while, I will throw in chicken wings with beef for my afternoon meal from time to time rather than eggs, or two pieces of salmon for breakfast rather than eggs.

I have experimented with snickerdoodle crepes which were amazing. I make my own mayo so enjoy that with everything. Yet to find some very hot Chillies so I can make chilli sauce too.

I don't eat much in the way of vegetables and salads (apart from in the egg for breakfast) so only getting carbs from fat bombs and Blueberry muffins at the moment.

This seems to work for me. My meals are more carnivore compared to Keto but I do have carbs and well seasoned food.
