OMG - I just weighed myself

Hairyfairy01 · 11/08/2023 11:49

So for the first time since Covid I weighed myself and at 5 foot 7 I am 16 stone, 9 pounds! I'm horrified. I used to run a lot and be around 12/13 stone which I was ok with. Lockdown stopped me exercising and I never got back into it.

I have just joined a gym which does lots of classes working on strength as well as cardio. I have also started couch to 5 k and my fitness pal (again).

I know I need to eat better (and less) and my main issue is what goes in my mouth. However I do enjoy exercise so I'm hoping there is less chance of me eating 3 doughnuts after doing a fitness session.

Anybody in a similar place who wants to join me for some accountability?

Hi @LibbyL92
I stop eating by 6pm the latest and go a whole day without eating. This works out to be around 36 hours minimum depending on when I feel hungry the morning of my feast day

My schedule that I am on now looks like this:
Last meal: Sat 19th August at 15.30
Next meal: Monday 21st August around 9am ish
Total fast time 41+ hours
I am currently 29 hours into my fast which I will end tomorrow morning.

Does that make sense?

Hey!

thanks for replying. I normally fast for 18 hours. But I’ve heard of doing longer!

did you have to build up to it? I’d love to give this a go along side low carb/Keto

HealthierHabits2023 · 21/08/2023 07:26

@LibbyL92 I just tried fasting longer each time I fasted to see how it would feel.

I honestly feel much better on Keto and enjoy searching new recipes online and making them so that it's something I will stick at.

Perfectlystill · 21/08/2023 07:36

Following. I don't weigh myself and am not really fat but could do with losing half a stone to a stone esp around my middle.

Interested to read what everyone else is doing. I have significantly upped my exercise as I love it and am trying to reduce the hours I eat (ie late breakfast and early supper) although it's tricky in the summer when we're socialising more.

coronafiona · 21/08/2023 08:30

Sounds nice actually, Thankyou. I've tried all sorts and seem to end up 5lb heavier each time Confused

TotalOverhaul · 23/08/2023 09:51

I have just done two days on very low carb. Not strict keto. According to the scales, I've already lost over 3lb. Not felt hungry or light headed or any of the issues I usually have when trying a diet. I know the early weight loss is water, but so what? It's still really motivating. Been a bit tired but that could be because I've just finished a long work contract where i was pretty much working 7 days a week for 6 weeks.

Maybethisisit · 27/08/2023 10:29

Morning, I have been MIA so apologies but huge well done to everyone still going.
I had a bit of overload, I think I was trying too much all at once with MFP, intermittent fasting, exercise and healthy food changes all at once and I just could keep up with myself.
I have taken it back to basics and am just eating healthy food and exercising. I have done week2 run1 of couch to 5k this morning.

start weight 11 stone 7
current weight 11 stone 5
first target weight 11 stone

weight loss so far 2lb

@Hairyfairy01 are you still using this thread or did you move over to making a whatsapp group?

Hairyfairy01 · 27/08/2023 11:51

I'm still here! Well done on your weight loss and your couch to 5K. I'm still doing MFP, gym classes and a bit of couch to 5k. Unfortunately despite a initial good weight loss I lost nothing last week. But i didn't gain either which is good I guess. I've had friends up this weekend so the healthy eating hasn't gone great but back on it tomorrow.

May I join you? I'm 5'8" and 14 stone 5. My weight fluctuates so much but I'm definitely near the top of what I have been (I would like to get back to 10 stone but would be happy at 11. I'm going to start swimming next week now the children are back at school and I can do an hour after drop off then work after that. Would it be ok?

Highdaysandholidays1 · 27/08/2023 12:24

I'm just over 12 stone, but relatively short at 5' 3''on a good day and I'm not carrying it well.

I'd love to join in here as I can't talk about it in my home too much as my dd is in recovery from an eating disorder so diet talk is absolutely inappropriate.

I'm not good at either fasting (which gives me migraines instantly) or low carb (I did lose lots on Dukan years ago but put it back on). I work best with small portions of not too calorific food throughout the day, protein as a priority and to up exercise.

It is so much harder now I'm over 50. I didn't watch my weight at all til mid-thirties, struggled a bit in forties and now it clings on for dear life! Menopausal midriff is real.

I'm going to do the Nutracheck mentioned on here, I used to use Noom which worked very well for me (until I had an accident and couldn't exercise for a long time) but I find the silliness of all the encouragement not my style these days.

I know what to do, I just don't want to do it!

IncognitoMam · 27/08/2023 12:26

I'm ditching the scales. Been doing HIIT video off YouTube and looking much better already. Stomach is more toned. Weight hasn't altered but my body has noticably changed. I'm eating more salad and veggies and less carbs.

I remember years ago a lass I knew started work as a personal trainer. She did classes too. She looked so trim when I saw her , which was few months after starting. She said do you know what I've actually put a stone on! She looked so good.

Good luck to everyone else but my mindset has changed in such a short time.

Highdaysandholidays1 · 27/08/2023 13:03

@IncognitoMam I think that's a great point. I haven't lost weight in the past two weeks but I have started to tone up and that is an achievement in its own right.

Hyppogriff · 27/08/2023 13:19

Can I join please ? I started fitness and health kick after a weigh in on 14 august showed me at over 12stone (76kg) and I’m only 5 foot 3. Been running lots over last few months and it’s clear that alone is not enough and need to address my eating !!!! I’ve lost about 2kg since then and goal is 63kg. I need some accountability so I don’t give up once the first few weeks are over or if I have a big blip! Also my husband says I snore terribly now which I never did when k was slimmer. Can’t really blame the kids as they are now 3 and 5 so it’s on me!!! Also up for joining a wattsapp support group if that went ahead!

Highdaysandholidays1 · 27/08/2023 13:22

@Hyppogriff that's almost exactly my weight and size. Just exercising won't do it for me, or just eating differently- it has to be the right combo to kick start my metabolism, otherwise I can subsist on really quite small amounts of food and not lose. Kind of clever but not what I'm going for aesthetically!

Midnightstar76 · 27/08/2023 14:08

Hi I will join. I got to Tuesday last week and DH had bought some wine and I just flipped and said enough is enough. I am the heaviest I have ever been with a middle that is expanding greatly. I am 47 and finding it very difficult to shift the pounds. I feel like I just look at food and I put a pound on. Anyway after Tuesday I decided to stop drinking as anything I lose goes back on due to drinking. Can easily do two bottles of wine and the rest at the weekend. And have been doing some form of exercise everyday. Small steps but hopefully in the right direction. I have a very sedentary office job. So whilst in work last week made sure I did 30/40 minute walk at lunch. Did some weight work with some dumb bells, only very low weight three pounds but will treat myself and buy heavier ones and a kettle bell next pay day. Also found a dance workout to do on YouTube which was fun. Did first run of couch to 5k yesterday and will do second tomorrow. Planning on stretching out today and going to do some yoga this afternoon. Positives are I am sleeping a bit better with the exercise. Current weight 12 stone 1 pound. In fact I am off to Yoga out now thanks for the inspiration all.

Yes it is. My arms and stomach are much better.

Maybethisisit · 28/08/2023 17:55

Hi all, lots of new people joining. I will try and keep up but I’m not the best so apologies if I forget people, it’s not on purpose.
I have been for another run today, week 2 run 2 of couch to 5k and have kept up my healthy eating.
I weighed myself and was disappointed to be a lb heavier than yesterday although I keep Sunday as my official weekly weigh in and know weight can fluctuate it’s still hard to see an increase
going to really give it my all this week as it’s now one week until my new job starts and some of the clothes I bought were a little snug 😬
mum going to try and run every day, shin splints are back so I may not progress through the weeks but stay with the same intensity for a while and see how I get on. Considering adding in some extra to try and boost myself. When I last dieted 2 years ago I did couch to 5k 3 times a week and the weight fell off. I think it could be my contraceptive pill which my doctor made me change around that time. I think I will see how I go for the next couple of weeks and if nothing is shifting I may consider coming off it for a while. I have previously pushed dp to have a vasectomy, we are definitely done having kids and it would make my life easier but he won’t. Don’t get me started on that one though as I will go into a rant 😂
hope everyone is well x

Hairyfairy01 · 01/09/2023 22:50

Hi all and welcome to all the new people. I've had a bad week eating wise, had friends to stay etc etc so ate and drank more than I should. Have kept up with my gym classes (never knew I could sweat that much), but slacking on the running. I lost 1.5 pounds last week which considering everything I was quite pleased with.
How is everyone else doing?

Highdaysandholidays1 · 02/09/2023 00:15

Well done! I lost 2 lb but that was after two weeks of nothing, then a sudden drop of a kg in the third week. That's quite a common pattern for me, I tend to sit somewhere for a while, then it will go down (eventually). Did bits of exercise and moved more, nothing drastic.

Knickersinatwist36 · 02/09/2023 07:41

I weighed myself on Wednesday and I had put 3 pounds back on Hmm despite the no snacks or chocolate. I totalled up my Tuesday consumption on my fitness pal and ate over 3000 calories!

I have logged everything on MFP since but haven't weighed myself yet. Also have done 3 swims but had a migraine on Thursday and met up with a friend yesterday so no time for exercise. Might go for a long walk today.
Well done on everyone's losses I hope to join you soon Smile

Midnightstar76 · 02/09/2023 09:26

Okay so I have been weighing myself every day which I don’t want to really but just can’t help myself as it fluctuates up and down. However on Monday I had AF so was a lot heavier and there is a 5 pound today. Aim is to lose 1 pound a week I think so fingers crossed for next week. I did have a bad evening on Thursday and had one to many kitkats. However I am celebrating the fact I have not touched alcahol. Going well with exercise and on second week of couch to 5k.

BorrowedThyme · 02/09/2023 09:35

hello @Hairyfairy01 I am reading with interest. Also 16 stone 9 a few weeks ago, I am 15 - 11 now, so moving slowly in the right direction.

I have cut out all sugar, sweets, chocolate, cake, artificial sweeteners and pudding. My consultant suggested one day a month to enjoy these things, but I decided it would be better not to be thinking and planning for that day

I have cut our most bread, but still have a bit of a weakness for cheese!

What I have learnt is some of the worst foods for messing up your metabolism and piling on weight are sugar - that is obvious- but artificial sweeteners too, as they cause an identical insulin surge, margarine ( use butter), vegetable oil ( use olive oil), highly processed food, especially white bread, and also white pasta.

That's brilliant.

I'm post menopausal now but that's quite recent. I can still feel hormone fluctuations and know I'll be heavier. I'm concentrating on healthier eating, plenty of water and exercise. My stomach is a lot smaller which is my main bug bear.
