Breakfast 1 slice of toast with a tiny bit of jam and a banana

Lunch -I small jacket potato (from Tesco's bag of 4 with 1 small Tin of beans

2 Bourbon biscuits (as I felt ridiculously shaky and light headed )
A few blueberries

And tea will be chicken and something say 500 calories

I'm 5ft 7 and weigh 11 stone 10
37 and want to get down to 10 stone by Christmas if I can.

Sounds fine to me and not too much. Have you put it all in to something like my fitness pal to check the calorie count?

Qbish · 18/07/2023 17:19

That is basically all carbs. I would say that you need more protein, and some fat, and fewer carbs.

Also, intermittent fasting might help you, as long as you are eating more protein.

Femalefootyfan · 18/07/2023 17:19

As PP said, put your food into something like MFP, that’ll give you pretty accurate calorie counts through the day.

Chypre · 18/07/2023 17:27

Maybe you eat too much, maybe not enough.... Is it white toast, is it granary toast? What kind of jam - full sugar or reduced sugar or no sugar? Teaspoon or table spoon? Were those "full fat" beans or no added sugar beans? Sainsbury's own brand Bourbon biscuits contain 63 calories per biscuit, so that's 120 calories in there. How much chicken, what part of chicken? Is it KFC chicken, is it steamed chicken breast? "Something" with chicken - is it macaroni cheese or is it steamed veg? It all depends!

ohaaahh · 18/07/2023 17:38

It was wholemeal toast
And full flat beans -not keen on the no added sugar
It's grilled chicken with mint potatoes and veg for tea

I haven't got my fitness plan
I will download
I've cut out all fizzy drinks

I'd be able to maintain on that and I'm same height as you. My current weight is just under 10 stone.

I would say though that it's not the best diet and you could do with eating more fruit and veg (the banana is sugary, so i wouldnt have them too often)

If you are exercising too I'd say you should actually eat more.

Pammela · 18/07/2023 17:45

You could try and have tuna at lunch and maybe have some Greek yoghurt and fruit for breakfast- you’ll get more protein. Eggs are also great for lunch and upping proteins.
maybe get some nice nut bars in for a snack if you need one too.

ohaaahh · 18/07/2023 17:45

What's wrong with what I am eating ?
What would you remove and replace it with ?
Beans?
Wholemeal bread ?
I don't have a clue what to have for the best

Sometimes it will be scrambled egg on toast
Or chicken salad sandwich on wholemeal

OP posts:
Pammela · 18/07/2023 17:48

I usually try not to have anything carb based at lunch- so no bread etc. I have salads with chicken/soup or some tuna or eggs.
You’re definitely not eating too much but if you try to have more protein then you’ll manage better. There’s protein yoghurts/mousse in aldi etc which are popular.

Qbish · 18/07/2023 17:50

So your day consists of, amongst other things:

Toast
Potato
Biscuits
Potatoes

That's a lot of carbs!

husbandcallsmepickle · 18/07/2023 17:50

I'd add more fruit and veg.

ZellyFitzgerald · 18/07/2023 17:53

That's a lot of carbs. I would avoid having bread and 2 lots of potatoes in one day.

Replace the jam with peanut butter, have berries instead of a banana (tropical fruits are very sugary).

Have salad and protein for lunch instead.

Stop the biscuits, you don't need them. No one needs crappy refined sugar.

hobbledyhoy · 18/07/2023 17:55

Yeah would echo PP, that's a lot of carbs continuously throughout the day. I'd cut those and increase the protein and veg

peachgreen · 18/07/2023 17:58

As PPs have said, way too many carbs. You’ll feel much better if you swap out those carbs for protein and good fats, and lose weight quicker too.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 18/07/2023 18:38

I am calorie counting at the moment - using Noom. I eat a similar amount of food to you and have lost 4lb in two weeks. My calorie allowance has been suggested to be 1300-1400 per day - some days I've eaten a bit more (due to meal out) and other days I've eaten less to even it out .

As I say - similar eating plan to yours but I would swap the jam for a scraping of nut butter - and if there's a choice then Greek yogurt would be better with the blueberries than the biscuits .

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 18/07/2023 18:42

@ohaaahh it's really important that you chose an eating plan with foods that suit your body and you enjoy because otherwise you won't stick to it.

High protein/fat and low carb is the current fashion - it suits many people and may suit you if you want to give it a try - but doesn't suit me . It's worth bearing that in mind when reading other people's advice .

QueefQueen80s · 18/07/2023 18:49

Far too many carbs, for me to lose weight anyway. You need more protein and veg

L1R876 · 18/07/2023 19:32

@ohaaahh I'd say the reason you're hungry is because you're eating lots of carbs and sugar. You need some protein and good fats in your diet.

Also do you exercise? Have you been the lower weight you want to reach, before?

ohaaahh · 18/07/2023 19:40

Yes I used to be 9 stone
Broke up with partner and gained weight

L1R876 · 18/07/2023 19:41

What was your diet like at 9stone?

This is why no one should come to Mumsnet for nutrition advice.

Please pick up a book about nutrition before you start dramatising about bananas

I'm not dramatising about about bananas. I'm saying I don't eat a lot of them because they are sugary.

You can disagree. I'm not a nutritionist OP, but I am your height and target weight which is why i commented. You can make of that what you like.
