Breakfast 1 slice of toast with a tiny bit of jam and a banana

Lunch -I small jacket potato (from Tesco's bag of 4 with 1 small Tin of beans

2 Bourbon biscuits (as I felt ridiculously shaky and light headed )
A few blueberries

And tea will be chicken and something say 500 calories

I'm 5ft 7 and weigh 11 stone 10
37 and want to get down to 10 stone by Christmas if I can.

@Dacadactyl what's your diet like? To stay 9stone?

@Dacadactyl what's your diet like? To stay 9stone?

OPs target weight is 10 stone. I am just under 10 stone and can eat pretty much what I want to stay there.

I can get to 9 and a half stone relatively easily but it requires too much effort to stay there long term. I also have to exercise a lot to stay at 9 and a half stone (think running 3 times a week, swimming 3 times a week and 2 gym sessions)

For an extra half a stone, I can't be bothered unless there's a big event coming up.

Check your tdee!

L1R876 · 18/07/2023 19:59

@Dacadactyl ahh I see. Well done though. It requires determination to stay in shape and slim!

If I was looking at getting to 9 and a half again, I'd have to eat like this, plus do all the exercise i mentioned above:

5 tablespoons of porridge, with berries, Greek yoghurt and teaspoon of peanut butter on top

3 egg omelette with loads of veg thrown in for lunch. Perhaps half an avocado too.

Chicken or fish with veg and wholemeal rice for tea.

If I wanted a snack, it'd have to be an apple.

No other snacks or booze at all. For about 4 months.

As it stands, my diet is pretty much like how I describe above but I will eat bread, crisps, snacks and alcohol on occasion and exercise less, which accounts for the extra half a stone.

L1R876 · 18/07/2023 20:05

@Dacadactyl I want to get back to 9stone. I may have to use that plan. Plus do loads more exercise. I'm sure it would slim me back down !

Dacadactyl · 18/07/2023 20:08

How tall are you? And how much do you weigh currently if you don't mind me asking?

I have been 8 stone 12 in my adult life, but I was ill at the time and everyone said I looked ill too.

L1R876 · 18/07/2023 20:09

I'm 10st5. 5ft6-7 ish. I got to 9stone last year.

I'm not dramatising about about bananas. I'm saying I don't eat a lot of them because they are sugary.

You can disagree. I'm not a nutritionist OP, but I am your height and target weight which is why i commented. You can make of that what you like.

I've lost 4.5st since January and am the same height as OP and now below her goal weight, and I eat a bunch of bananas a week and have since I started losing. You're being ridiculous, it's a fruit, it's fine. The tin of beans a day she's eating contains far more sugar than a sodding banana.

Dacadactyl · 18/07/2023 20:12

Persoanlly, oI think the effort required to stay at a lower weight (when currently at a healthy weight, like you are) isn't worth it.

L1R876 · 18/07/2023 20:13

@Dacadactyl I know. But I was 13 stone before. So I know if I'm not careful, I could end up back there.

Yes and you are able to share your experience on here for OP to see. Not sure what the issue is really.

Ah ok. Well yes that's different. I've never been more than top end of 11 stone and that was when pregnant, so I can see why you'd want to keep an eye on it.

The issue is telling someone not to eat bananas often because they're too sugary. That's bordering into the ridiculous competitive under eating middle class eating disorders bullshit that is so rife on this website. I've seen a few nutritionists in my life and not one of them has ever sucked their teeth over bananas. They're demonstrably fine.

L1R876 · 18/07/2023 20:16

Exactly! :) i miss not fitting my clothes and I know with some discipline, I can get back there. I'm going to use your meal ideas to help. Thank you :)

ohaaahh · 18/07/2023 20:17

Tbh lately I've been drinking a lot of cocktails on weekly nights out.
I didn't realise a pornstar martini had 250 cals
Doing bottomless brunch we can easily drink 6-8
My diet hasn't really changed tbh

There are too many carbs in your daily diet.

You should include eggs, tuna, more veg, and soups made with real meat broth.

You could have an egg salad sandwich or tuna salad sandwich made with whole grain bread for lunch, or have a scrambled egg on toast for breakfast.

Or lunch could be a veggie soup made with real broth/ stock and lots of veg (shredded cabbage, carrots, spinach, potato chunks, green beans, onion, tomato, etc). Or a lentil soup (onion, cumin, paprika, celery, garlic, carrots, potato, green lentils, stock, s&p).

A naturally low fat cheese makes a good snack, same goes for nuts.

Your dinner sounds ok.

OP, you have heard my thoughts and the thoughts of @VeridicalVagabond

You can make your own mind up.

Greenfree · 18/07/2023 20:22

I think your having too many carbs. I try and I lt have one lot of carbs a day if dieting so I may have scrambled eggs with mushrooms and avocado for breakfast, soup for lunch, pasta dish for dinner. If I have a sandwich for lunch then I'll have something like chicken salad for dinner

Tukmgru · 18/07/2023 20:22

Firstly, well done and all good first steps. Secondly - you need a lot more variety in your diet, which I know can be a pain but spend an hour on Sunday planning. It really helps. Think lentils, (real, not baked) beans, different meats, lots of saucy things.
Thirdly - assuming you can, exercise is needed to really lose weight and maintain weight loss, but you’ll also need to eat more than you are if you’re going to do that because you’ll need to maintain muscle mass. Muscle consumes more energy in an ongoing basis that fat, which helps with further weight loss! But bear in mind, ‘weight’ isn’t really the metric you want if you do improve your muscle/fat ratio. You might be ‘heavier’ than you want to be at that point, but that’s because muscle is a dense tissue. You’ll be able to see it, rather than weigh it.

Good luck!

mathanxiety · 18/07/2023 20:24

All bananas are not created equal.

Greener ones have less sugar than those that have a few freckles, and size matters too.

Limiting fruit is your diet is frankly moronic and if you want to do it that's your choice but it's hardly a good or responsible recommendation

musicalgymball · 18/07/2023 20:25

You need more fruit and vegetables. Try some greens on your jacket potato. There are enough carbs but not enough nutrients. Eventually you'll get sick eating like that.

BLT24 · 18/07/2023 20:25

ohaaahh · 18/07/2023 17:45

What's wrong with what I am eating ?
What would you remove and replace it with ?
Beans?
Wholemeal bread ?
I don't have a clue what to have for the best

Sometimes it will be scrambled egg on toast
Or chicken salad sandwich on wholemeal

Nothing wrong with what you’re eating but you could eat differently for better outcome. I’d recommend calorie counting. You need a calorie deficit of 3500 kcals to lose 1lb. For example a 500 kcal deficit daily for a week you would lose 1lb. If you download my fitness pal app and put in your details and goals it’ll tell you how many calories to have a day.

It’s impossible to tell how many calories you’ve eaten or burnt from the info given.

Try to have protein in every meal as it helps to prevent spikes in blood sugar. Your breakfast was very carb (bread) and sugar (jam) heavy and virtually no protein (there’s a tiny bit in wholemeal bread), this causes a spike in blood sugar which is always followed by a crash in blood sugar (the shaky symptoms you describe). A better breakfast would be wholemeal toast, olive oil, and 2 eggs with some veggies.
