The Saxenda Sisterhood

Hi all,

As the last thread is filling up I thought I'd start a new one so we don't get lost.

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight_loss_chat/4788207-im-starting-saxenda-this-week

This is the follow up from "I'm starting Saxenda this week" I'm personally journaling my way to a hopefully healthier and happier life. I'm journaling what I'm eating, the weight I'm losing (and gaining) and trying to see the positives outweigh the negatives on a daily basis. I'm joined on this thread and journey by many amazing women who are all very supportive and who are also sharing as much or as little as they like.

I'm finding I'm opening this thread instead of opening the cupboards, the fridge and the food delivery app on my phone and feeling less in my struggles and frustration and writing about my days makes me realize my life isn't all bad.

I'm thankful for all the voices in this thread and feel supported by the sisterhood of women from all over facing the same body struggles as I am.

I post some pictures and photos and I really like it when others do too.

If you're new please join us if you want to and let us know how you're getting on with your Saxenda journey. Come here for compliments when you deserve them and commiseration when you need some. You're welcome whatever your age, wherever you are and if you have 1kg or 10 stone to loose.

I've been on Saxenda for 10 weeks and lost 9.2kg (1st 6.2lbs) so far. I started at over 96kg and am now 87 and a bit. I have at least another 20kg to go to be happy with how I look - but knowing that the Saxenda sisterhood is here makes the journey seem less intimidating.

And some pictures - the sensitive one is me in a bikini in front of hotel mirror and I’ll res post the one from 2 months ago - a small change but a change.

There are prickly pears here everywhere so thinking of @OrderOfTheKookaburra ! They aren't ripe yet though.

I've just ordered and paid for 5 more pens and hope they'll be approved - reading how things are going in the UK has really freaked me out on not being able to get more pens.

@Saxendastarter no luck in getting, thanks for asking.

As I am attempting to start in Saxenda being to wonder if I should just try another option.

LostMyMindset · 12/07/2023 07:51

So I'm on day 3 I think? I'm still craving food and it's constantly on my mind. Does anyone have any advise on how to help this?
I did well yesterday.
Today I'm having granola and milk for breakfast. Strawberries, grapes and yoghurt for lunch. And will do a salad for tea.

Off to the cinema tonight so my treat will be a salted caramel cream cold brew from Starbucks.

Not been to the loo since starting this so wondered does constipation stop you losing weight? I'm a daily weigher and wanted to see them move even if slowly and nothing so far.

Saxendastarter · 12/07/2023 08:00

@LostMyMindset Maybe it’ll take a few days to start working for you ? or maybe you’re being too drastic in reducing your portions ? Are you drinking enough ? It’s really important you drink as much water as you can! And yes - if you’re not pooing - you won’t have a big drop until you’ve « been » However - when we loose weight as surprising as it is we don’t « poo it out » we actually breath the majority of it out …https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/287046#Tracking-the-atoms

Majority of weight loss occurs 'via breathing'

Researchers have stated that when weight is lost, the majority of fat leaves the body in the form of carbon dioxide, making the lungs the primary excretory organ for weight loss.

@freetheunicorn1 would you consider the pill form or the Naltrexone and bupropion combo ?

@freetheunicorn1 would you consider the pill form or the Naltrexone and bupropion combo ?

Possibly, I read up a lot before choosing Saxenda so I think I just need to go back to the drawing board. Thank you for the suggestions.

Saxendastarter · 12/07/2023 08:20

@freetheunicorn1 I took bupropion ( as an antidepressant) about 8/9 years ago - it stopped me smoking and drinking and I lost a lot of weight ( I think I hit 49kg but I was skinny to start with at that time ) - I changed shrinks ( mine retired) and the new one took me off it for something else because he thought I was getting too thin…( took me a long time to forgive him - I was seriously living my best life - but hey retrospectively - i trust his professional opinion and he’s stuck by me for 8 years now) It remains my favorite antidepressant of all times ( and trust me - I’ve tried many over the last 17 years …) it doesn’t affect libido cause anorgasma either as that’s often a shit side effect of other ADs . That’s just my 2 cents and of course I didn’t take it combined with Namtrexone with also reduces cravings esp for alcohol. So that’s my ancedotal evidence! If I wasn’t on other ADs right now that mean I can’t touch bupropion it would have been my first choice.

However you do it, with or without a chemical crutch let us know how you get on.

Take care

Love your pics OP. You can definitely see a difference, that must be be a boost of confidence for you. I daydream about wearing a bikini again one day - haven't since my honeymoon. My tummy is wrecked from 3 babies including a 10lb'er, and my last baby gave me diastasis recti (separated muscles, have had physio, still can't fix it) and an umbilical hernia - but if I can lose the fat I dont care how lumpy, saggy and doughy it looks I am going to be showing it off!

Still no change on the scales today but I'm going to see the week out at 1.8 (so second week at this dose) and if still no change will try going up to 2.4. I've started injecting in my tummy now, having initially just done thighs as was worried about side effects, still no side effects other than exhaustion.

I do find I am obsessing over the jabs and weight loss in general, something I've struggled with previously. I dont like this being my hyperfocus as it makes me miserable, so I have to keep a close eye on my mood and try to keep distracted.

Kids start their summer hols this week so I have a fair few days away over the next 3 weeks including 2 lots of camping - will see how I manage with the jabs and my food intake as I really don't want to gain weight again.

Footgoose · 12/07/2023 10:57

I’ve had an e mail from medexpress saying saxenda is back in stock .

Vinvertebrate · 12/07/2023 11:03

Saxenda seekers! Back is stock in Med Express today and right angled tomorrow! X

Saxendastarter · 12/07/2023 11:53

And I’ve just had an email saying my order from yesterday is on its way! That means that I have 10 pens. I’m on full dose so I have 2 months ahead of me. I hope to be in the 70’s by then.

Visited some stunning garden this morning and have checked in for tomorrow and got first row seats so hoping that boarding g last with earphones will reduce panic on my side!

WhiteNumen · 12/07/2023 12:22

Sharing my MH journey too if you don't mind.. hopefully helps someone.
I've always been depressed, since I was 16, maybe even earlier.. and it got worse once I moved from another country to UK.. no friends, family issues and bad love life made me spiral.
I've tried every ing, cbt, talking therapy, both via nhs and private. The only thing that worked a bit was trauma therapy. I was better for a while, they put me on antidepressants.. after few months I kept feeling worse, so asked to update dosage.. until a point that they told me more doesn't mean better. Stopped cold turkey after I put myself in financial distress. Asked for a bipolar referral because I was sure there was something wrong with me. I have really high highs and low lows.. the one that make me wonder what I'm still doing here..
Well, after a being on mood stabilisers for a while, I've been finally diagnosed with bipolar 2. And that explains why I'm always depressed and why antidepressants made me feel worse. Now I still have bad days, but its all manageable.

The worry about glp1 medication is that might trigger or increase anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts in people already suffering.

So if you have already issues with MH, keep an eye on your moods, if you think it's getting worse it could well be this medication (ozempic and saxenda)

MsLK14 · 12/07/2023 12:43

Hi all
ive been lurking for a while so decided to join in 😀
Started Saxenda about a month ago and have lost 10lbs (hoping to lose 2 stone all in all) I’ve been mooching around this thread for a while as was struggling to find stock and was hoping for some tips… put an order in with MedExpress today so fingers crossed - and thank you to those who highlighted it. I’m still on the 1.2 dose as it’s been working well for me.
Im in the office today and there’s a buffet… pre Saxenda I would have been hovering around it from about 10am but instead I skipped it and am having a soup for lunch.
I didn’t realise how much my obsession with what-I’m-eating-next was taking up my head and my Saxenda journey so far has been an eye opener

Footgoose · 12/07/2023 13:49

Hi @MsLK14 . Welcome aboard .

I’m just catching up in my lunch break , sadly no time to type much . I do love this thread . The honestly and support from everyone to everyone is heart warming .

ThisMustBeMyDream · 12/07/2023 14:56

Quick catching up from me too! Hello to the newbies, there's loads of you! I hope your Sax journeys go well and you get the results you want.
@Saxendastarter I can see a massive difference in those photos! Wow. You are doing incredibly well!
I've got a question for you too, if you don't mind. You seem to know a lot about this kind of thing and my GP was fucking useless! Or if anyone has any useful advice? I had a one off depo shot 8 months ago that within 2 weeks destroyed my libido. It isn't returning. But more than libido, I'm upset that I don't look at my partner and want to hold his hand, hug or kiss him. It's like I just don't care about intimacy. Except I do, because I know it isn't me! GP tried to brush it off as psychological but it isn't. It's hormonal. It's the depo. It happened years ago when I had the implant too. I can't remember how it resolved though.

Some scale and non scale victories today. Scales have already dropped 2lb since Monday, my new lowest weight. But my jeans that I took a pic in and put on here what, maybe 2 weeks ago? Yeah, I don't think they will fit me in 2 weeks time! They might be the last wear they get today! Hanging off me they are! Also, I have a vest top on that I've had for years, but it's a fave - in a size 14 hoorah (I'm a size bigger on the bottom). I also tried on a pair of 16 jeans but they are really super skinny ones. A few weeks ago I couldn't get them past my thighs. Today I managed to get them all the way up and just about fastened! Not comfortable, but I did it 🤣. I can see and feel the changes now! 14 stones I'm chasing you... I can't wait to see the back of the 15 stone range!

WhiteNumen · 12/07/2023 15:09

Today im feeling it, i had a good lunch (20g protein so should feel full) and yet now i feel hungry, even though i feel also full.. how is that possible?
Drinking water doesnt help. i can feel water in my stomach, but i also feel the " hole" and stomach is making hungry noises, but i also feel full.. im at day six i think (started Friday) is it possible that i just need to up the dosage?
I was planning on staying on the low one for a bit longer :(

Does this makes sense? Has anyone else experienced it?

OP posts:
Sotiredmjmmy · 12/07/2023 16:30

@WhiteNumen I definitely felt the 0.6 and 1.2 does fade off by about day 6 on each, stopped once I went up the dose.

0.6 is a minuscule dose, a 5th of the therapeutic dose, it’s not going to have a lasting effect for many people long term. I have however found 1.8 to be fine, it didn’t drop off like the lower doses did so quickly. I’m into my 7th week at 1.8 now. It doesn’t have quite the same effect it did have, I can eat a jacket potato now whereas few weeks ago I couldn’t eat it all, so more will power required as well but taking it as a meet in the middle approach, I will likely need to up the does in the coming weeks though but have held off due to stock etc

I'm hungry today as well. Decent breakfast of porridge oats soaked with raspberries and some milk overnight, a latte and then 2 boiled eggs with 2 slices of low card bread and an apple. Have just had 2 shredded wheat as hungry! I'm on 1.2.Maybe I need to up the dose.

CiderJabs · 12/07/2023 17:07

@Saxendastarter your replies are so detailed to everyone, you put me to shame! My menopausal brain can forget my own name sometimes 😂

My scales are showing 10-9.2 this morning!!! I'm chuffed and terrified I'll put it back on in equal measures. So I'm sticking to 0.9 and will go back down to 0.6 for the last 3 days so as I have to show some willpower. I'm definitely feeling hungrier (I've always had a huge appetite and can eat my body weight in pasta!) but as long as I don't snack, I will lose weight once I can be active again. Keeping my fingers crossed!

I've also got a beach holiday in mid august so it will be nice to feel confident in a bikini. Although I'll wear a wetsuit most days which is quite forgiving!

WhiteNumen · 12/07/2023 17:22

Thank you @Sotiredmjmmy @KPops22 that was indeed my worry, i was hopeful i could do one extra week on 0.6 since i was loosing nicely (6lb!) guess ill up the dose Friday and lets see.. also at the office today so boredom might be the culprit too
