Hi all,

As the last thread is filling up I thought I'd start a new one so we don't get lost.

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/weight_loss_chat/4788207-im-starting-saxenda-this-week

This is the follow up from "I'm starting Saxenda this week" I'm personally journaling my way to a hopefully healthier and happier life. I'm journaling what I'm eating, the weight I'm losing (and gaining) and trying to see the positives outweigh the negatives on a daily basis. I'm joined on this thread and journey by many amazing women who are all very supportive and who are also sharing as much or as little as they like.

I'm finding I'm opening this thread instead of opening the cupboards, the fridge and the food delivery app on my phone and feeling less in my struggles and frustration and writing about my days makes me realize my life isn't all bad.

I'm thankful for all the voices in this thread and feel supported by the sisterhood of women from all over facing the same body struggles as I am.

I post some pictures and photos and I really like it when others do too.

If you're new please join us if you want to and let us know how you're getting on with your Saxenda journey. Come here for compliments when you deserve them and commiseration when you need some. You're welcome whatever your age, wherever you are and if you have 1kg or 10 stone to loose.

I've been on Saxenda for 10 weeks and lost 9.2kg (1st 6.2lbs) so far. I started at over 96kg and am now 87 and a bit. I have at least another 20kg to go to be happy with how I look - but knowing that the Saxenda sisterhood is here makes the journey seem less intimidating.

@justsaxy . Hi , roasted meat/ halloumi served in a pitta bread usually with tzatziki’s and salad . Years ago I would have prosbly called it a kebab . This was served from a street food van on a paper tray . Don’t get me wrong , they are lovely but commonly around 7 to 10 pounds . Having queued for 20 minutes before realising the price I really couldn’t be fussed with joining the back of a different queue for something else. 😂

Footgoose · 28/08/2023 20:39

@Saxendastarter . Hi , welcome back in the saddle ! I hope you are recovering at least some of your positive energy that you have so often shared through this group .

Today was my last day , all pens now finished . I’m not at the end of my endeavours , still more work to do on myself.

justsaxy · 28/08/2023 21:43

Yes for update @Saxendastarter ! Glad to have you back. The place isn't the same without you.
@Footgoose thank you for explaining! So now, you are free of the pens. Do you have strategies in place?

I am fully back at work now and my resolve is not weakening, but it is definitely less. I really like being on holiday and having time to cook.

Lunch is provided at my workplace and today it was pasta pesto. Not ideal. Tomorrow it is polenta (Yack!) so I will take a pot of home made chickpea curry from the freezer... I have also boiled 3 eggs.
I am trying to be better at batch cooking for moments such as these.

Glorfindels · 29/08/2023 14:04

Sending best wishes to all & I hope everyone is getting on well this week.

@Saxendastarter A fresh start and a new day.

@justsaxy It's funny I find being at work easier food wise as I am more structured and planned. I'm sure after a few days back you will get back in the swing of it.

@Footgoose Hope it goes well this week.

Today is tough, lack of sleep & got so much on but can't seem to get my arse in gear- just staring at the list & held back an invisible procrastinating force field. I would normally find comfort in cake & sausage rolls.

Right moaning over- if I tick one thing off the list I will feel better....as a wise woman once said...F*ck this shit & just got on with it!

Scottishlanza · 29/08/2023 14:20

Got to the 1.5 stone off mark this morning, it’s the least I’ve weighed in ten years despite trying several times to lose weight. I only take 0.6 so it’s probably a placebo effect but the saxenda is making all the difference

justsaxy · 29/08/2023 15:18

@Glorfindels I love that saying!!!

Where I work, lunch is provided. Some days it's awesome, some days not so much. But there is always a salad and there is always fruit for dessert. But pasta pesto yesterday and today polenta and sausages... not my bag at all. But sometimes it is just to easy not to worry as I know that I will be fed.

But I was organized enough to bring food today. Grin

Long time lurker! Long first poster! Yorkshire, UK

This chat has really helped me, thanks ladies.

only had 3 pens over June/July … it changed my life! For me it’s the mental health benefit, I just never knew you could live life without always thinking of food. My internal hunger voice simply stopped immediately.

I think about food from the minute I wake until the second I sleep, it’s constant. I can eat 10 meals a day and still have an appetite. Been like this since I was a child.

Your late 40s is the gift that keeps giving. Haven’t changed exercise, food or sleep but put on a stone in 6 months. Just like that.

I’m 5’3 but active and eat healthy, kept the right side of obese until recently. It’s a struggle though. Work 60hrs a week, 3 boys at 3 schools, house renovations, aging parents, dogs yadda yadda. Exercise is a priority but I can’t do more than 1hr a day so upped cardio a little which helped.

For 20 years I have worked so hard to try and control this s**ty voice tbh I’m just exhausted with it all.

So tried it, loved it. Asda sold me 3 pens without any mention of stock issues (🤬) and now I’m in the same boat as your guys. I’m a little regretful that I’ve had a ‘glimpse’ at how I could live if you know what I mean?

So the voice is back with a vengeance. My Saxenda experience has reset my portion sizes which is great but in all honesty I’m terrified of my brain going back to where it was.

10lb down and working hard to plateau here! Hoping stock is back soon!

Sotiredmjmmy · 30/08/2023 11:26

@10Lisa I’ve sent you a PM on the Asda stock

KatGirl007 · 30/08/2023 15:00

10Lisa – 10 lbs. down is great with all that going on kids, school, parents.

Saxendastarter – I like to see posts on what you are eating. I will start doing the same. It helps us be accountable for what goes in. LOL

@Glorfindels - Great you packed a lunch. I have a cafeteria here at work and it does play on my mind. I try to go there thinking “eat small”.

Scottishlanza - If 0.6 is working keep going. That sounds great.

So talked to my doctor today by video to let her know my concerns of the Saxenda shortage and I saw by the calendar she is on vacation next week. She told me to stay on 2.4 dose for another month and she will put in the prescription. I wanted to get this going two week out to make sure I am covered. I told her a couple of times I noticed I was hungry towards the evening. She said to stick with protein and vegetables, low complex fruit. So I am making my mind work harder during those times to stay on point. I told her I was working out on my indoor bike once or twice a week. So going to up it to three times over this next month. Started 2.4 dose today. I did notice on 1.8 at the end of week I was getting hungrier than normal. That’s the time to work on my willpower.

KatGirl007 · 30/08/2023 15:14

Radish12 – Hang in there and keep posting. We are here for you. Keep eating on small plates.

Saxendastarter – Glad you found a better shrink. That is so important. Try eating on small plates. That is the only thing that saves me.

@Glorfindels - I hope DP is okay since this accident. Is he hurt badly? Your loses look great.

justsaxy - That Reebok step is great motivation. You got this.

Repeating this. Not sure it got on the new thread.

Glorfindels · 30/08/2023 16:43

@10Lisa Well done on your loss, a lot of what you say resonates with me too. Good luck.

@KatGirl007 DP is recovering OK thanks, a lot of bruising, stiffness and a broken bone in his hand...the joys of motorbikes! Hope the 2.4 dose works well for you.

@justsaxy Polenta isn't for me either- a texture thing. But good you know you can get fed. All we have on our industrial site is a van, with basically a choice of sausage or bacon sandwiches, or fried egg for the vegetarians.

@Scottishlanza Congratulations on your loss.

@Saxendastarter I hope you are having a good week.

If anyone is after a book for healthy meal inspiration, the Hairy Bikers diet book recipes are really good. I have been batch cooking and freezing half, and they have been nice on the whole. Can recommend the Lamb & Spinach Curry.

Footgoose · 30/08/2023 18:29

@Glorfindels . I have the Hairy Biker diet edition books . Have you tried the Swedish meatball ? So good! I had them last night , no mash but lots of peas.

Footgoose · 30/08/2023 20:03

@10Lisa , hello . Good first post . So much resonated with me regarding the feeling of freedom from food .
@Scottishlanza . good loss too . Congrats.

12 weeks on Saxenda today and I’m 19.5lbs down. I have, I estimate, 2 doses of 0.6 on my pen and I will be stopping. I do have an “emergency pen” just in case it all goes pear shaped I can have another month at 0.6 as a safety blanket.
im feeling quite confident though. Let’s see how I do when I’m off it for a few days!!!!

Sotiredmjmmy · 31/08/2023 21:33

Hi all

@Saxendastarter I’m very much sharing your onwards and downwards mentality. After a couple of iffy weeks things have calmed down and I am back to being fully motivated again, helped by going up to 2.4 dose over the last week too but I feel committed to try my best to see what I can achieve again. It feels like I’ve been in my current stone bracket for AGES which I don’t think helped my mood etc few weeks ago, so pushing to get down to the next one asap to give me a boost

@Saxendastarter very good to have you back, and I have to say you’ve come a long way and there’s a lot of positivity to take from that, look back at some of your early food diary entires with those of the last few days, really quite different

@KatGirl007 with the creeping feeling of hunger, have you tried adjusting the time of day you take your pen?

freetheunicorn1 · 31/08/2023 22:16

Struggled on this week without Saxenda, no loss so far but no gain. More good noise! Am I crazy to consider Ozempic?!

@freetheunicorn1 maintaining is still great though... would you be open to trying to maintain for a couple of weeks solo and then seeing if you can get ozempic ?

@Sotiredmjmmy You're so right ... I do feel back on track ... I weighed this morning and I'm at 85.8 - that's an all time low for me since I started and 2.2kg down on Monday ...

@MsLK14 great loss and good plan! Well done

@Footgoose lovely to be reading you ... how are you getting on with drinking ?
@Glorfindels I will look up that book! I hope your husband is okay.

@KatGirl007 you're right I need to get a hand on portions ....

@10Lisa Welcome! I hope you break through the plateau.

I'm feeling quite shit today (physically) but I'm not sure if it's yesterdays drinks, the Saxenda or the fact that I had my 5th Covid booster yesterday ( trying to anticipate because I work at the hospital and from experience it's starting to feel like the beginning of a massive wave here with the number of admissions for severe covid - they've opened an extra covid ward again already and it's full... )

Morning all,

I've been away from the thread for a few weeks but it's great to see how everyone's doing and that you've sorted your work situation @Saxendastarter.

My break was partly because I went to a conference in London, caught Covid and three weeks afterwards I'm only just feeling back to normal. Mostly though it was because I've felt really down about stock availability.

I was doing okay, I'm two stone down since April and now I've got half a pen left. It's as though I don't want to start again because what's the point and as I've only bought from Asda and other places only seem to be supplying to existing customers I'm up the proverbial creek.

i haven't put weight on in the last few weeks - probably due to Covid - but I have found the urge to snack coming on in the afternoon and the enjoyment I get from a glass of wine (and related nibbles!) in the evening. Portion sizes creeping up a little too. These are the things that I benefited most from I think while taking Saxenda and it feels such a struggle to resist that constant 'food chatter'.

If anyone has got any suggestions re supply I'd love to hear them.

Thanks. x

Saxendastarter · 02/09/2023 18:25

2 stone is amazing! I hope you feel properly recovered from covid soon. I know that supply issues are a pain in the arse but you've got this.

I'm just on my way to a party and am channeling all I can to make sure I don't pig out or over drink.

Saw a lovely Francoise Pétrovitch expo at musée de la vie romantique this afternoon and really feel that I'm getting back to life after my slump.
