Lose weight and read a book

If you share these goals, join me Smile

I just want to lose some weight before summer holidays. I'll aim for a stone but would be happy with 10lbs.
Intermittent fasting and lower carbs is the plan.
I havent read a book in ages thanks to my phone addiction and would love to get back into it. I have a huge To Be Read pile. I'll have a browse and see what I fancy.

I'm in!

I'm slowly losing weight, started HRT 3 months ago and my 1lb a week has slowed down to 1/3 of a pound 😭.

I'm also heavy on the phone usage, which I'm do disappointed with myself about.

Shall we have a weekly loss of weight, and pages read honestt register?

Gilead · 22/06/2023 23:36

I’m in, got given all seven of the Rivers of London series today. Could do with losing a few stone!

Yes! I think daily pages or chapters would work better for me.
I'll get myself organised for tomorrow.

This thread is perfect for me 😊

Irunoncoffeemascaraandhighheels · 23/06/2023 01:11

I'm in 📚⚖️

About to start Keep Her Close by M.J. Ford and wanting to lose the pot belly. I'm thinking 6lbs will do it.

Zuyi · 23/06/2023 01:21

I love this.

Greenthread · 23/06/2023 01:28

Can I join please? I keep losing 4-6lb over 2 weeks, then putting them back on again 😬 I keep looking at all the diets I’ve tried before and thinking about doing one again but I know how they work, I shouldn’t need to pay to do them!

Greenthread · 23/06/2023 01:29

I’m currently reading very slowly The Book of Two Ways.

QwertyWitch · 23/06/2023 16:56

Today I've had a bread roll with cheese and salad and a choc ice. So much for low carbs but it's been too hot to prep anything that takes longer than 2 mins
I've done almost 10000 steps.

I'm still trying to decide what to read. The last book I really enjoyed was Where The Crawdads sing. I haven't read in a while do I don't know what I'm in the mood for!

What's everyone else reading?

I'd like to lose weight too. I put on lots over lockdown and haven't worked up enough energy to try and lose it again.

I read quite a bit, but not normally whole books-I tend to dip in and out of books I know well at the moment.

I did read [The Finding Machine: Her Late Father's Invention...A 1920s Cold Case...Can Alex Follow the Dots to Solve it?: Amazon.co.uk: Lyons, Lucy: 9781739307905: Books a few weeks ago which I really enjoyed. It's a good mystery with a twist that makes sense. I love the cover too.

So good I got that too on 4 at the minute

parrotonthesofa · 23/06/2023 17:48

Ohh can I join too? I finally decided to do something about my weight before the summer and have lost 3kg in the last 4 weeks. Not dramatic but ok. I need to lose 8kg in total.
Started reading 'disclaimer' by Renee knight this week. It's quite good.

dubyalass · 23/06/2023 18:11

Sounds great! Stress, sedentary job and starting HRT have seen me put on a stone since last year (and I was already a stone overweight).

Finished James Rebanks' English Pastoral this week and now started Roger Deakin's Waterlog (am a fan of nature/wildlife writing as well as fiction). But I spend too much time on my phone, particularly just before bed.

Nomorenonbinary · 23/06/2023 18:29

Oooo! I'm in!

Zuyi · 24/06/2023 04:01

Today I read a bit of "I'm so effing hungry" by Dr Amy shah. It's full of advice about how to avoid food cravings. Some is standard, such as avoid process food, get enough sleep etc.

Some other tips that I haven't read before are:

  • get outdoors in the sunshine, even if it is cloudy, especially early in the day
  • eat in this order: green vegetables, then protein, then carbs
  • strengthen your social connections.
  • keep a food diary, not to control calories but to see patterns of mood and food.

I would be happy to just not gain any more weight. Pregnant and weight has skyrocketed. So, I will sit with you ladies and enjoy my Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus anytime the crap drawer calls my name.

I tried to come off my hrt the other day but felt horrendous. So stiff and slow.
It's so infuriating how much weight it piles on some people 😔

Try The Salt Path by Raynor Winn it's an easy read, beautiful descriptions of our land and an inspiring tale 💛

DinosApple · 24/06/2023 07:23

I'm in too! Wrong side of 40 with creaking hormones making losing weight much harder to shift.

I need to lose half a stone to make my current summer clothes comfortable, and a stone and a half as a longer term goal to get to a healthy BMI.

Currently reading a Michael Palin travel book, very slowly because I tend to read at bedtime therefore fall asleep within 5 seconds!

Arduenna · 24/06/2023 07:32

I'll join! I have 5kg to lose to get me back to my happy weight. I start a new job on Monday which is WFH - last time that led to me piling weight on...

I'm on chapter 3 of Ultra Processed People, which I'm using to keep my mind focused on my health. I find non-fiction easier to read than fiction, so the ultimate reading goal for me is to start reading and enjoying novels again.

CalmConfident · 24/06/2023 07:36

Count me in!

HRT weight gain and limited exercise is taking its toll. I love to read but have fallen into lazy phone scrolling. Large book pile of options, will pick one !

Midnightstar76 · 24/06/2023 07:51

I’m in OP currently reading How to kill your Family by Bella Mackie, have had a few raised eyebrows from DD’s and DH over the title 😂😬. I always fall off the wagon when trying to lose some pounds. Intermittent fasting is what I should do.

Try audiobooks that way you can listen while walking. It's a game changer. Try strange sally diamond I thought it was great xx

Sallygoroundtheroses · 24/06/2023 07:58

Yep I’m in! First thing is to weigh myself at Boots because our home scales are unreliable.

Second is to finish Lessons in chemistry. I’ll set myself 7 days to do both.

Third will be to reduce my UPF

Fourth will be to do three hours exercise a week. I can cycle to work, use the outside gym in the park and walk. All doable.
