If you share these goals, join me Smile

I just want to lose some weight before summer holidays. I'll aim for a stone but would be happy with 10lbs.
Intermittent fasting and lower carbs is the plan.
I havent read a book in ages thanks to my phone addiction and would love to get back into it. I have a huge To Be Read pile. I'll have a browse and see what I fancy.

Oh yes the same issues here.
I’ve just gotten back into reading and audiobooks but the problem is that they are on my phone!

MantaKay · 24/06/2023 08:30

@SunSwimEatSleep I love it, maybe I should start rowing!!!!

Maglin · 24/06/2023 08:34

I'm in! Also on HRT and have a horrendous pot belly.

I have Counselling for Toads to read and Demon Copperhead.

Am drinking five pints of water a day and walking 10000 including a hill. Started yesterday! Am about to make a coffee, put Forest on my phone and read for 20 mins.

QwertyWitch · 24/06/2023 10:10

@SunSwimEatSleep that's on my list! I was inspired to walk some of that path last year after I saw Raynor on a Netflix show.

I've settled on A Walk in the Woods by Bryson. I'm enjoying it and it's made me laugh out loud

I had a coffee in the garden with my book, then went for a walk. Good start. Hopefully I'll keep that rhythm going. Well, for the weekends at least.

Fasting until 12 so I'll have another black coffee in a bit and get on with my list of things to do today.

I need to lose about a stone .I do walk 10000 a day with the dog but she's old so it's very slow ! I love all the Bill Bryson books . I also enjoyed where the Crawdads and The Salt Path . I am currently listening to Jodi Picoults Mad Honey which is brilliant . Jodi Picoult is my favourite fiction author. I listen on Borrowbox which is free with your library card .

@Midnightstar76 I've got How To Kill Your Family in my reading pile too.

Whatliesbeneath707 · 24/06/2023 13:47

Great thread OP! Thank you.
Book to read: Four thousand weeks
Weight loss goal: 2lbs per week.

Patchw0rk · 24/06/2023 16:55

I just finished 'mad honey' and although I didn't like the ending, I did enjoy the book.

I loved Where The Crawdads Sing too! I have recently really enjoyed How To Kill Your Family, Lessons in Chemistry, The Thursday Murder Club, The Seven Lives of Evelyn Hugo, and The Family Upstairs.

Irunoncoffeemascaraandhighheels · 24/06/2023 22:18

It's weigh day tomorrow. I've not had the best week and I've eaten more biscuits and cake than is ideal so I'm hoping I haven't put back on what I previously lost.

Need to finish the tail end of the current book before I can start Keep Her Close, the new one I mentioned at the beginning of thread.

Gilead · 24/06/2023 23:07

Okay, I’ve had a shop delivered and I’ve got MFP on my for keeping track of what’s going in. I’m a wheelchair user so won’t be posting much in the way of exercise!
Starting properly in the morning. Hopefully this will help the steroid weight gain go down a little.

Gilead · 24/06/2023 23:07

(On my phone)!

loveyouradvice · 25/06/2023 00:56

You are my people!! So many books on here I love... Lessons in Chemistry, Where the Crawdads Sing and Demon Copperhead ... oh and although I mainly read fiction, I've loved the Salt Path and English Pastoral too.

So I've just ordered How to Kill your Family (on your recommendation Midnight Star!) ... and the Authenticity Project and The Secret Life of an Uncool Mum popped up too, so am going to give them a go.

I'm looking for light life-enhancing summer reading at the mo.... I very sadly and very unexpectedly lost my sister just 4 months ago, so I am spending a lot of time crying and adapting to my strange new life without the woman I love best in the world.

One side effect of grief was putting on 30 lbs in just 10 weeks.... Some has come off so I've 22lbs to get back to my "happy weight" (love that phrase Arduenna)... But going to do it slowly given how challenging life feels at the moment.

And yes, I'm an intermittent faster and relatively low carbs person too...

CalmConfident · 25/06/2023 17:10

IF worked well for me on the past, I need to just do it.

Now reading a classic, Villette. The only novel Charlotte Brontë wrote i think ?

CalmConfident · 25/06/2023 17:13

I got my brontes all wrong there 😩🫢

Irunoncoffeemascaraandhighheels · 25/06/2023 20:13

The scales were kind to me this morning. I was worried I'd put on after junk food lapses this week but I haven't. Not lost any either but that's fine. Slow and steady is the way to go.

Ihatethemessimin · 25/06/2023 23:33

Need to lose about a stone - perimenopause joy

currently reading Amazing Grace Adams by Fran Littlewood. Only on page 80 but can relate to Grace so much!

Patchw0rk · 26/06/2023 11:39

I've moved onto 'stepping up' by The Unmumsy Mum. I'm enjoying it so far but find the main character very whiny and annoying.

DaisyWaldron · 26/06/2023 12:06

Oh, I love this thread! I'm obese at the moment, and am getting joint pain, so really need to lose weight, but I'm aiming for slow and sustainable, with lots of exercise.

For books, I read loads, but mostly romance novels on kindle unlimited so I'm trying to get back to my pandemic enjoyment of more complex books. I think I might give The Luminaries a go.

Gilead · 26/06/2023 18:33

I did three chapters yesterday. Unfortunately went 21 calories over but I’m looking at it as a weekly calorie count. Fingers crossed.

QwertyWitch · 27/06/2023 00:00

The intermittent fasting, book reading and walking is going well. Unfortunately, I need to make better decisions for my eating window. Today I had lunch of pitta bread with chicken and salad, small pack of crisps then chicken and rice for dinner.
Too many carbs!!

TheChosenTwo · 27/06/2023 00:04

Oh this thread has come at the right time for me!
going on holiday 8 weeks tomorrow and would like to shift a stone.
have prepped my lunch for tomorrow (I eat mindlessly when I’m hungry so best to be prepared!), every hour I’m going to go out and skip with a skipping rope for one minute and will do my lunchtime walk as usual, and not aim to do much more for a week - taking it easy! And have so much to read that a large pile has formed by my bed 🙈

humblemeep · 27/06/2023 00:11

Can I join in too?

I'm doing ok on the reading front. I downloaded the borrowbox app and read ebooks from the library on my kindle fire.

I've been intermittent fasting, mainly 16:8, since January. I've lost a stone but am struggling to lose another stone which would put me at 11 stone 3 which I'd be happy with - I'm 5'7. This is mainly down to eating chocolate again! I'd given up totally, so need to stop doing that again!

loveyouradvice · 28/06/2023 21:12

Going to post now to STOP me eating anything else today and get back on track for tomorrow...have lapsed but want to get back on track - I was doing so well!!! And enjoying the reading...

QwertyWitch · 28/06/2023 22:02

Really busy day today. Fasting was ok but ate a bit too much. Will read before bed

Zuyi · 29/06/2023 06:25

I lost two pounds this week from cutting out processed food and sugar. Yay ate chocolate to celebrate! Will read book now about chemistry of soil.
