Lose weight and read a book

If you share these goals, join me Smile

I just want to lose some weight before summer holidays. I'll aim for a stone but would be happy with 10lbs.
Intermittent fasting and lower carbs is the plan.
I havent read a book in ages thanks to my phone addiction and would love to get back into it. I have a huge To Be Read pile. I'll have a browse and see what I fancy.

This has been an eye opener. I was trying to think how to log how much ultra processed food I eat and it’s way more than I thought. We cook from scratch most days but it still seeps into most meals. I’ve found the answer to why I’m not losing weight, I’m massively over eating but in denial. I’m going back to slimming world for the accountability of being weighed every week.

I did three hours of walking and cycling this week.

I read every day, and my phone use is massively down.

Maglin · 30/06/2023 09:08

I've totally failed at this
I did two days of it and it made me feel sonso much better
No idea why I didn't carry on! Monday!

ComputerInitiateJump · 30/06/2023 09:09

Hi, joining you! I've had an awful stressful year and I'm early 50s so probably in peri have put on ridiculous weight around my middle and don't recognise myself 😔. I'm usually happy in a size 12 but it's crept up to a 16 and growing..

For around the last month I've been reducing portions and I'm managing to walk for around an hour each evening. We don't have any scales in the house (long story) so I can only go on how my clothes feel. I need to step up a gear and try fasting. I'm never that bothered about breakfast so could probably easily drop it.

Reading wise, I love St Mary's Chronicles and I'm on book 7.

I also dip into Rosamunde Pilcher for 'comfort' as I've read them many times. Particularly love The Shell Seekers, Coming Home & A Winters Tale.

It's not going well here. I still haven't started the book and I've put on 2lbs 🥺

QwertyWitch · 02/07/2023 17:34

I've been plodding along with the diet and reading. I've read way more than I would otherwise but food choices could be a lot better.
Come on, it's Monday tomorrow! The best time to re-evaluate and get stuck back in Smile

I done better today. 3 healthy meals, only one little bag of crisps for a snack. I still didn't read my book but I read a magazine to get me back into reading.

Gilead · 04/07/2023 18:57

I’m a bit out of the loop, had to dash off and travel 350 odd miles to help a family member. So eating what I’m given and forgot to pack book!

Irunoncoffeemascaraandhighheels · 06/07/2023 01:19

Finally started my book tonight. Only read one chapter but I'm already intrigued.

Didn't do so well with the healthy eating. I needed to arrange delivery of a parcel, with the sender not specified, and got hit with customs charges that I wasn't expecting. At the moment I'm refusing to pay until I know who the sender is and have spoken to them, because if it's who I think it is there shouldn't be any charges. Not sure what can be done about it though, HMRC website as clear as mud and courier not much better. So I've mostly been stress- eating crisps.

I've got clothes in a range of sizes. Decided to get rid of any clothes that don't fit today and not keep anything that I need to slim down into. I'm not planning on losing much so mostly what fits now is still going to fit when I'm smaller, if I ever get there.

CalmConfident · 06/07/2023 07:00

I’ve been getting on ok with the intermittent fasting, and book wise have switched to sci fi. Currently reading HG Wells classic short stories. Finding walking with a podcast after evening meal is distracting me from snacking

loveyouradvice · 06/07/2023 22:37

Reading is going great BUT.... have put 4lbs back on with a couple of days overeating. Back on it - Intermittent fasting, low carb, lowish cals, 2-5 hour window... but sad when I was doing so well that I've scuppered the weight.

Plus side - Loved both How to Kill your Family but especially The People on Platform 5: fun, uplifting, gorgeous read...

Irunoncoffeemascaraandhighheels · 09/07/2023 15:19

I'm 1/3 of the way through my book. It's good in the sense of I can't wait to find out who the guilty party is, but I don't think I'll want to keep it to read again.

I've also lost one of the 2lbs I gained last week, which I'm pleased about because although I've eaten a lot of salad I did have some extra snacks too and was worried I'd have put on again.

I'm not being overly strict or following a particular diet. I just want a body where I feel happy in my own skin. I had chub rub on my thighs which I hated and it's a relief now it's stopped after losing 6lbs. I've still got a belly though and my waistband doesn't sit on my waist it gets pushed up to around my ribcage because of my belly, so I'm hoping that'll go away and I can feel more comfortable soon.

QwertyWitch · 09/07/2023 17:59

I've started another book! I'm
Amazed.
I'm still a bit rubbish with the food though fasting and walking is ok. Why why why can't I sort the food thing??
Tomorrow is Monday so reset time.

Finished my book tonight. It was ok, kept me guessing whodunit right until the end.

Picked out my next one - Christmas Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella.

My eating has been rubbish the last few days. Today was mostly crisps! Must have better willpower for the second half of the week.

Sallygoroundtheroses · 14/07/2023 09:36

I finished a book and lost 5 pounds, that was over the last 10 days or so. Not expecting huge losses like that each week.

Next book is non-fiction as it’s easier for me to read in busy times, which the next week is.

Irunoncoffeemascaraandhighheels · 16/07/2023 18:43

Halfway through the new book which is turning out to be better than expected, very funny. I don't think it'll be a favourite though so will be donated afterwards.

Gained a pound but I'm on my period so it could be that.

MantaKay · 20/07/2023 00:47

Can we share some titles as well? Pregnant and heartburn is killing me so I am awake for hours and suggestions are welcomed!
I am currently reading The truth about the Harry Quebert affair.

Irunoncoffeemascaraandhighheels · 20/07/2023 01:36

I'm taking a break from books to read a magazine but I chose my next book today. Level 2 by Lenore Appelhans. It's about life after death. Before that I had Christmas Shopaholic and Keep Her Close. They were both good but very different. Hope your heartburn goes away soon @MantaKay

MantaKay · 20/07/2023 11:44

Thank you @Irunoncoffeemascaraandhighheels . Love your username! Three things that are out of my life right now!

Irunoncoffeemascaraandhighheels · 31/07/2023 15:31

I lost 2 lbs this week and I'm more than halfway through my book

Gilead · 31/07/2023 16:18

Stayed the same this week but halfway through book. Got a bit lax when children were visiting!

Openmouthinsertfood · 31/07/2023 18:46

Thank you for the mention of *The Christmas Shopaholic.' Have just ordered this, due 4-5th. Really looking forward to it! Xmas Smile

MantaKay · 01/08/2023 23:39

Happy to report I stayed the same too which for me is a win since I am pregnant.
I brought home a set of Val McDermid from a charity bin and I am devouring them. How come I had never heard of her!

Irunoncoffeemascaraandhighheels · 07/08/2023 13:38

I only lost 1/4 lb better than nothing I suppose and I finished my book which was awesome so I'm keeping it to read again sometime.

The next book is Zero Hour by Clive Cussler and Graham Brown. It's part of a series but I haven't read the others except one, which was ok but not a keeper.

Gilead · 09/08/2023 18:36

Managed to lose 2lbs this week and have been careful with my online shop, lots of salad, veggies, and fruit. I also made a snack bowl to keep in the fridge: chopped apple, celery, cubed cheese, peppers and a bit of dried fruit. It seems to help.

QwertyWitch · 09/08/2023 18:48

I'm back from holiday where I read a book but didn't manage weight loss. Though I didn't gain any either.
Back to it 💪
