I just got a 1mg pen from Quick Meds 2 mins ago

Thanks for the tip, I got one too!

OzHopes · 08/06/2023 17:02

I’m so frustrated as I couldn’t get via quick meds today (and every other day!) and tried loads of times , it just wouldn’t put it in the basket. Refreshed and opened new tabs etc but no joy. Worried I’ll end up without and I’ve been on 1mg. It’s out everywhere it seems

Peridot1 · 08/06/2023 17:24

Same here @OzHopes.

@OzHopes looks like quickmeds have stock of 0.5mg pen if that's any use to you.

Thanks but don’t want to go back down. Although it may end up being that! Still have the changing to Saxenda dilemma or the ozempic tablets - anyone had success with these? Or know what dosage equates to 1mg of injection ?? Too many questions, I should ask the pharmacist lol

Athena51 · 08/06/2023 18:15

@OzHopes I just checked and they seem to have 1mg in stock if you're quick.

I just got one from quick meds finally , took 15 minutes on the website and I didn’t think it would go through as the page crashed a few times. Hope you had luck @Peridot1

What do people think of this piece in the DM today?

www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-12175801/The-new-weight-loss-wonder-drugs-left-depressed-craving-cake-pasta-lashings-butter.html

Apart from anything I thought Wegovy hadn't made its way here (she talks about getting it from Asda and it also being available st Boots) so feeling a bit confused/dubious.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 09/06/2023 07:42

She must be talking about Saxenda instead of Wegovy. And yes we do all seem to have to take the responsibility to research drug interactions ourselves and it is dodgy. Hopefully one day we will be able to at least talk to our GPs about it. Hard to talk to our GPs about anything at the moment.

Just read that article and it's awfully inaccurate and misleading. There's no way she would have been on Wegovy as it's not available in the UK yet and certainly wouldn't have been available from Asda/Boots! It mentions daily injections so I assume it was Saxenda and not Wegovy... It implies Wegovy/Ozempic in isolation was the cause of her symptoms but only mentions at the end of the article that she was on thyroid meds which were being counteracted by liraglutide/semaglutide...rubbish reporting again DM!!

Absolute bollocks. She must have been on Saxenda certainly not Wegovy. No fact checking at all, I shouldn't be surprised.

I only went off food entirely for the first few weeks when I started. At that time I was advised to started on 0.5 so I felt pretty rough for a bit. Now I still get hungry (I think it's important for maintenance to tune into your natural hunger not suppress it entirely) and I really enjoy my food. The difference is that I am much more mindful of my choices and I eat much less. I also don't think about food all the time. I eat and theI i forget about it until my next meal. In other words, it's turned me into a normal eater.

I was much more depressed when I was 20 stone!

mathis2006 · 09/06/2023 10:07

@Athena51
I read the article, pretty sure she is talking about saxenda which works the same.
I have to admit I recognise a lot in the article. When I started saxenda it worked amazingly, much better than ozempic in my case. Lost very rapidly but was also crippled with anxiety and depression. I can recognise the signs as I had it before. I kept going because of the results, and lost 2 stones in 2.5 months. I then switched to ozempic, and mentally I am definitely better, not sure if it is because it is semaglutide and not liraglutide or just that my body was used it. While I was on saxenda all I craved was also beige carbs, I ate so much porridge, crumpets, toasts and couldn't stomach any protein or salad or veg.
But I still lost weight because of the small portion I ate. This pattern of eating carried on ozempic although the appetite supplement as been no where near the same as saxenda. So slowly lost 1st over 3 months on ozempic. Now at goal weight and weaning off( on 0.5 për week) I don't crave fast carbs anymore and starting to enjoy salad and protein again. I can only just now start to exercise as well as the fatigue was a lot.
So although this medication has been life changing for me there were some pretty nasty side effects that I do recognise in this article. I would still do it all over again as I have never so good now.

I haven't taken Saxenda so I can't speak to that. Sorry that you had nasty side effects. I appreciate that I've been really lucky to have had such effective appetite suppression and so few negative side effects.

That journalist was ridiculous. Zero responsibility for her own actions.

She said she told the Ozempic supplier she was on thyroxin though - surely it's up to them as the experts to be alert to the dangers of cross-medicating, rather than assume users will be?

WeightInLine · 09/06/2023 11:24

Absolutely the pharmacist should know. But she didn’t go to her GP when she knows she has a seriously under active thyroid and went elsewhere instead.

TheWayOfTheWorld · 09/06/2023 12:38

Yes I feel quite mixed about it. Clearly got the treatments confused with each other but some of her responses were relatable.

Eg I like going out for dinner etc but last time I went I managed very little as felt so full (and I think people felt I was being fussy or something).

WhyDoesItAlways · 09/06/2023 13:24

I find it hard to believe she read the drug information leaflets as she says since she clearly didn't know what she was actually injecting herself with every day.

I'm just not sure how helpful the experience of 1 person is when there have been studies done of a much larger group of participants which is used to inform the side effects listed in the drug info leaflet. I just feel like it's another article aimed at making people feel like idiots for having to resort to a medication to lose weight.

Interesting to see rishi is pumping some money into further research although I wish he would also take a look at the UPF market too!

AndSoFinally · 09/06/2023 14:07

Personally, I find nothing more depressing than the thought of being fat forever, so the idea of not really enjoying food, as long as it led to weight loss and maintenance, wouldn't really worry me.

I can see how it would be a big deal for some though, and I've seen sec

AndSoFinally · 09/06/2023 14:09

oh FFS!

Seen several articles where the writers describe their loss of appetite as being a terrible thing. I guess you'd just have to select patients more carefully for these treatments. If you derive all/most of your enjoyment in life from food, then these aren't going to be for you 🤷🏻

mathis2006 · 09/06/2023 14:18

Just to precise on my post before I felt depressed, but not from not enjoying food anymore. All my life I have wished that I didnt like food as much ad I do. I just felt flat and nothing was pleasant for me. I think it was a side effect of the hormone it stimulates in the brain and it was mainly on saxenda.
