2.5lb a week (on average)

I weighted myself this morning and I'm 14st 5lbs. That's a gain of 12lbs in the past 10 weeks - I'm disgusted with myself!!

I've been struggling to lose weight since DC2 was born 14 months ago. Nowhere near enough sleep, too exhausted to exercise and bingeing on crap at night when the kids are in bed.

We're going on our first family holiday abroad at the end of September and I want to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight (11st) for then.

I have 18 weeks to lose 47lbs, that's 2.5lbs a week. I've fired up my fitbit and intend on doing the following:

10,000 steps a day
1200 calories a day
Log everything in MyFitnessPal
Drink 2 litres of water a day

I've lost around a stone twice already this year doing faddy diets but they aren't sustainable long term and I've put the weight back on (plus some) when I've stopped, so I want to do more of a lifestyle change than a crash diet this time.

Anyone want to join me for accountability? I plan on weighing myself every Monday morning and will share my results here (even if no-one else joins, it'll hopefully keep me on track).

Morning all,

Thought I'd share my stats so far. I decided to weigh myself this morning as I've had a good couple of days and I'm delighted to see I've lost 2.8lbs (so far) this week. I'm almost at my target for the week AND have got my BMI (just) under 30 and into the 'overweight' category 🤩 progress is definitely being made!

I know this could change by Monday but it's a good motivator for the weekend.

Oh I feel your pain. My daughter has woken between 5 and 5.3pm for at least 2 years now!

out of interest how different are you all eating now vs before this thread.

I still ate in a similar way e.g lots of fruit and veg and everything home cooked, but I’ve been eating much smaller portions, and cutting out breakfast when I can (IF style), and trying to eat less carbs. I’d eat a lot more toast and peanut butter usually! But honestly I can’t say I miss it.

I do like a home made pudding/dessert, and a slice of cake or an ice cream when I’m out walking etc. but once or twice a month is sustainable without feeling deprived right?!

It's hard isn't it?! Typically, my youngest has started sleeping longer at the same time as my eldest is waking earlier 🥴

My diet had changed in that I'm not snacking anymore and have cut way back on carbs. I'm trying to eat my protein and fibre but still not quite there with the fruit and veg (one step at a time).

Pudding/ice cream/cream a couple of times a month is more than ok, you have to live. I don't believe in deprivation anymore, it just doesn't work long term.

Hawdmeback, you’re doing great! Fantastic progress! And think of the benefits of no longer being obese!

yes that’s what it’s about isn’t it - long term sustainability.

I admit I’m struggling with it this morning. I’ve not eaten yet and I’m hungry. But I’ve got a packed lunch made for 2 hours time when hopefully I’m picnicing with a friend and children. Then a friend coming later tonight for more nasi goreng!! I want to eat now, but really trying to IF. I didn’t eat anything else after I posted last night as the bread really filled me up. So late ate around 5pm yesterday

Todaypicard · 23/06/2023 10:23

Sorry… to follow that train of thought longer - clearly being hungry now and restricting a meal is not sustainable!! So I’m unsure what to do

Ilovedavidmitchell · 23/06/2023 11:09

Hi everyone!

I know that this thread has been going for a little while but I hope it's ok to join in at this point?

I am 29 and over the past 4 years have steadily packed weight on. This is a combination of getting a sedentary job and workin from home half the week. My activity levels dropped so much and now I just feel so lazy and unmotivated. I do have low B12 and low iron though which doesn't help with ability to get moving, but I am starting to have injections so hopefully that will help.

I have tried to lose weight loads of times over the past few weeks but I always always fail. I thought that joining on here will help keep me motivated and accountable! Also great for meal ideas.

My goals are to hit at least 10k steps every day and stop snacking! I am a massive chocolate fiend! Snacking on rubbish is the main contributor for me. I don't know how much I weigh. I went from 9st 6 to just over 10st in 2021 and haven't weighed myself since but since then I have gone up another dress size.
I am too scared to weigh myself so I might just measure my results based on inches lost and just how I feel in my clothes etc.

Well done to everyone who has managed to lose! Seems like such a motivating thread and can't wait to start and chat with you all

Ilovedavidmitchell · 23/06/2023 11:10

Oh no, I should really read my posts before I post lol. That was meant to say I have tried to lose weight loads of times over the past few years, not weeks!

I think you should eat when hungry. Genuine hunger is your body's way of telling you to it needs fuel. Maybe drink a big glass of water and wait 20 mins to make sure it's not just thirst and if you still feel hungry, then have a healthy snack.

Hey, new recruits always welcome here! I bet you'll see a big rise in your energy levels now that your on B12 injections. Cutting out snacking (or swapping unhealthy snacks for healthy ones) is a good start 👍 this thread is great for friendly encouragement and motivations. Hopefully it helps you as it does me.

Thank you - I did as you said and just had my picnic early! A salad with rocket, spinach, beetroot, pepper, celery, feta, and a small handful of wholewheat pasta - then a drizzle of chilli infused olive oil. Followed by 2 satsumas. Will not eat again until my friend comes and I serve the nasi goreng followed by a fruit salad (again cherries and strawberries!) and kefir yogurt. I have also bought a bottle of non-alcoholic passion fruit martini! I don’t drink alcohol but thought it would be nice for someone coming over,

Hubblebubble · 23/06/2023 18:37

Today was a bit bread heavier than I'd like, but I forgot to make overnight oats.
Weight lifting at the gym
Followed by a protein shake, slice toast with peanut butter and a coffee.
Lunch was grilled cheese toasty
Dinner was a gousto recipe, pulled mushroom tortellini.
Snack was another coffee and a nectarine.

Ilovedavidmitchell · 23/06/2023 19:56

@Hubblebubble how many calories are in protein shakes? And do you find that they fill you up for longer?

Hubblebubble · 23/06/2023 20:36

I do 200 ml of coconut milk, which is about 55 cals with a scoop of pure body nutrition whey or cassein, which is about 100 cals. Its basically the same cals as a large banana. Protein fills you up, and because I strength training regularly I aim for a gram of protein for every pound I weigh. So it helps me hit my daily targets.

Todaypicard · 24/06/2023 20:42

Not a good day for me sadly.

no breakfast

ice cream from the ice cream van at a party we went to…

lunch - lentil and vegetable soup, a bit of cheese and one slice of whole meal bread.

dinner - small portion of left over nasi goreng (a quarter of an adult portion as that’s all that was left. With a little grilled fish (not had fish for years but trying to improve my protein), and a slice of bread to fill me up.

then a slice of chocolate cake (homemade from a friend!!) couldn’t say no.

then a bowl of cherries, strawberries, grapes.

im not eating any more but am hungry. The bloody sugar makes you crave doesn’t it! So I’m in bed with a herbal tea to try and feel better - tomorrow is a new day. We are going out to a hobby event where food is provided… so I might take my own so I’m not pulled into an unhealthy buffet situation.

hope you’ve all had a better day

HawdMeBack · 25/06/2023 12:42

Afternoon all,

So far today, I've had -

Shredded wheat
A protein bar
Sour cream and onion rice crackers

Might have an apple if I get hungry between now and teatime.

I'm thinking scrambled egg on toast for tea tonight. My appetite has definitley decreased and my stomach has shrunk. DH made pizzas for us on Friday night and I only managed half of mine, would usually have scoffed the lot and been raiding the cupboards for something sweet afterwards.

I'm having my bathroom renovated at the moment and the flooring has been ripped up so not sure how that'll effect my weigh in tomorrow. I like to weigh myself as soon as I get up on a Monday, on the same spot so that the reading is as accurate as possible. If it says I've lost weight then it's obviously correct. If it says I haven't then it's obviously wrong 🫣🤣

Everyone feeling confident about stepping on the scales tomorrow?

Ooo can you tell me about your bathroom? We are desperate to have ours done! It’s very small but was poorly done before we moved in (9 years ago!!). Did you go to a showroom or approach a plumber? Any idea on cost?

I don’t think I will have lost much this week, so a bit anxious about the scales. I’ll update my food on here later!

I don’t think I will have lost much this week, so a bit anxious about the scales. I’ll update my food on here later!

We moved in at the end of last summer and the place was a bit like the house that Jack built 🫣 we've been working on it continuously for months now.

I'm not a shopper and couldn't be bothered trawling round showrooms so just picked one online. It was £850 for the suite (toilet, bath, bath panels and wall hung vanity unit sink), another £240 for the taps and shower screen and £200 for the flooring (not including fitting). We still need to get a mirror, repaint, replace the ceiling covering and light fitting. We liked the existing tiles so kept them along with the shower.

Thankfully I have a couple of family members who are plumbers so the labour is free which is saving us LOADS!! They stripped out the old bathroom and are fitting the new one (including rerouting the soil pipe to change the layout). There were incidentals too - new door lock needed, traps for the bath and sink, fitting for the toilet... we also found a rotting joist under the shower which appears to be due to a leak, so had to treat and pack that. For materials alone, I think we're looking at an overall spend of around £2K and maybe a few hundred for the joiner. Would have been more than double had we had to pay for labour too.

I'm betting you have lost this week but if you haven't, don't be disheartened, there will be weeks where nothing changes. As long as we're not gaining then that's a win in my book. I didn't lose last week but am hoping to have made up for it this week 🤞

Oh very interesting! Thanks for the info, hope it gets sorted asap for you.

I think I’ve finished eating for today.

no breakfast

lunch was a cheese, beetroot, spinach and humous sandwich, celery sticks, an apple.

dinner that I’ve just finished was a pasta dish - ricotta, chilli, sweetcorn, greens, lemon etc.

I might have some more fruit and several cups of herb tea! Hoping for a loss

Hubblebubble · 25/06/2023 19:33

Bit of an odd one today as I had two breakfast type meals.
Breakfast: 1 slice toast with peanut butter and a coffee.
Lunch: veggie chilli with rice and a lemonade.
Dinner: overnight oats I'd forgotten about in the morning (strawberry yoghurt, coconut milk, vanilla protein power and oats) with a side of fried plantain.

Todaypicard · 25/06/2023 20:11

Hubblebubble that sounds like a delicious day! All foods that I like!

Hubblebubble · 25/06/2023 23:09

Weigh in!

last week was 75.7kg
today 74kg

thats a loss of 1.7kg (3.7lb!) which hardly seems true but I weighed 4 times to be sure!

very pleased and being spurred on to next week!

so that’s 4.5kg lost so far (9.9lb).

HawdMeBack · 26/06/2023 07:28

Brilliant @Todaypicard well done!! You must feel good about that.

Morning!

Today is the day that I am officially starting. We went to Bridlington over the weekend for a little caravan holiday and we had a meal out booked so I thought there was no point in properly starting until today. Let's see how I go! I'm a bit nervous.

Reading all your posts is making me want to get some scales but I'm so scared of seeing my start weight or seeing the numbers go up!
