I'm 33.

I'm 1m68 (5ft6)

I don't actually know what I weight and I got rid of my scales last year when getting on them just made me cry every time and I was just too depressed to even try and start loosing weight - I have ordered scales and will weight myself tomorrow.

However last time I weighed myself nearly a year ago I was 94kg (14st 11) and I know that I have gained since then.

I started gaining weight the beginning of covid, before 2019 my very highest weight had been 68kg ( 10st10) and my normal weight had been round 62kg for most of my adult life, so I have massively put on weight over these last four years. (Separation, depression, stress at work, and just general giving up).

My body is ruined by stretch-marks and my boobs that used to be great are now just swollen and saggy and stretch marked.

I'm really depressed by my weight and have decided its time to do something about it.

I have an office job and I'm not at all active.

I've tried to start making small changes, walking to the underground instead of getting the bus, getting the stairs up the one flight to my office instead of the lift but everything feels like a struggle and I have such awful thigh chaffing that walking is often excruciatingly painful.

I how I need to make a change because on top of it being so unhealthy being so over weight just makes me so upset. I've stopped going out as much and have just retreated into a shell.

I also have an appointment with a psychologist tomorrow.

I decided last month that enough is enough and I need to do something about it all.

I've started using face cream, and am finally having laser on my very very hairy thighs and - the point of this thread - I'm going to start saxenda tomorrow.

I thought I'd journal here.

Thank you 😊 yes I am definitely finding it so much easier to not binge for no reason / boredom and my sugar cravings have gone which is amazing!
Side effects have mainly been the intense nausea and vomiting but the antisickness medication as and when I need it has really helped so I've managed to avoid all vomiting this time 🙌
I need to try and up my fluid intake (I've never ever drank enough) and I'm in total awe at how many fluids you drink @Saxendastarter
I'm hoping to start a little exercise soon but as @Glorfindels said, one thing at a time.
What are people doing with their doses? Last time I was on it but had to stop because of sickness I got 2 weeks in but stayed on 0.6, I'm on day 8 now and have remained on 0.6 again. I'm of the thinking that if the lower dose is working then I'm better off sticking with it? What's everyone else doing?

BinnityBoo · 03/05/2023 22:27

Hello everyone and to some new faces on the thread 👋🏻☺️

@Saxendastarter what a thoughtful gift from your director! Those bottles look really good too but I couldn't justify the price 😟

Day 10 for me and I'm feeling pretty good, my side effects have been overall fairly minimal, I have felt quite hungry today and yesterday but I've been really busy at work walking around our huge campus so got sooo many steps in!

Starting to wonder whether it's time to up the dose though, I might add a few clicks to the 0.6 dose tomorrow.

@Bloodylovecrisps my plan was to stay on 0.6 for as long as I could and as long as I felt it was working, then incrementally going up as I notice I'm getting hungrier/not feeling the benefit as much. I'm quite sensitive to most medication so I think this has worked out for me quite well

Hope you're all having a good week ☺️

Saxendastarter · 03/05/2023 22:39

@BinnityBoo Hi! I know - the price of the bottles is mind-blowing - all of gen Z in our office seem to have them though - the noise really is off putting though and the refill caps are $$$$.

I've upped to 0.6 and 5 clicks - this seems to be enough for the moment.

@Bloodylovecrisps I do drink a lot, always have - but this is also part of what caused so much weight gain - I've always drunk my calories - even at high school I hardly ate but survived on lattes and ice tea - during covid I switched to drinking fizzy sodas and I think it was a major factor in the weight gain... there are 420 calories in a litre of coke a cola and I was drinking 2 litres a day at one point on top of tea and coffee and squash ....

@Saxendastarter - I've been absolutely exhausted. Struggled to do anything on the weekend. I'm feeling a lot better today, which has coincided with having to go down a dose so maybe it's connected? Or maybe I'm eating better, don't know.

I'm sprinkling psyllium husk into everything I can to try to avoid getting constipated and it's helping a bit - my mash potato looked rank with it in there so I smooshed some other veggies in there as well.

Saxendastarter · 04/05/2023 06:26

@OrderOfTheKookaburra I'm exhausted again this morning - We have another three day weekend here and I'm weighing tomorrow so I might go down a dose too to see if it helps at all.
I'm just doing a tea spoon of psyllium in a big glass of water in the morning, honestly pretty disgusting, but that way it's done!

OP posts:
OrderOfTheKookaburra · 04/05/2023 07:06

@Saxendastarter I had a big heaped tsp in my lunchtime soup. As long as it's something with flavour I don't notice it. Drinking it straight? Bleugh! I'd be gagging....

Saxendastarter · 04/05/2023 08:04

Oh no! I’ve just been really sick on the way to work - as in had to get off bus and was sick in a public litter bin. Feel crap. And embarrassed

Day 14

( TL.DR long ramble ahead)

All in all a pretty shit day. Was hit by horrible nausea This morning on my commute and had to leave the bus to be sick into a bin on the pavement. Arrived at work and replied to 2 different LinkedIn recruters that I wasn’t interested. Then one of my oldest collègues who is on vacation and who I respect and cherish sent a copy everyone resignation email that was true and fair but a pretty hardcore read. Director in a foul mood took it out on one of my junior team members over an insignificant ( ie sorted within the hour) issue, without asking me first.

Went for drinks with historical collègues ( start up has gone from 11 to 90 in the last 2 years) and after a few drinks learnt that pretty much everyone is looking to leave because, well, enough is enough, and most have offers.

Have had far too much to eat and drink and currently in bus home.

Breakfast:
2 black coffee
2 Big glasses of sugar free squash
1 boiled egg

Snack
Coffee
Tea
Water

Lunch :
Duck magret and cucumber salad
water

Supper
Far too much white wine, far too much champagne ( probably 7 glasses in all)
Far too many fried vegetable fritters with tatziki, cheese fritters, goats cheese bricks, bread, salad, gaspacho.
Cointreau and Ameretto shots
Cognac
Armagnac
Coffee

Got home to réalisé that a friend of a friend of a friend coming to Paris for a year was arriving late tonight at mine for a week stay whilst flat hunting ( had totally forgotten - feeling grateful once again to my cleaning lady extraordinaire who knew from the fridge calendar and had prepped towels on bed etc) so shared an extra bottle of white wine with her whilst communicating through google translate.
i have my weigh in tomorrow morning and know I will have so may regrets !

@Saxendastarter - it's a blip - I've had one of those weeks as well, I've been grazing way too much. Old bad habits creeping back in.

One day at a time... !!!

We've got this!!!

Saxendastarter · 05/05/2023 06:56

Thanks @OrderOfTheKookaburra I'm in a bit of a woe is me mood, but you're right - just a blip! I hope your weekend is better than your week too!

Start of week three and weigh in number 2 here

Weight loss this week 2kg (4.4 lbs)
Current Weight 93kg (14 st 9 lbs)
Total weight lost to date 3.8kg (8.37 lbs)

Starting Weight 96.8kg ( 15st 3.4 Ibs)
Goal Weight 70kg (11st)
Time On Saxenda 15 days
Total percentage of weight loss so far 3.92%
Side effets Headaches/Cold Feet/Constipation
Goal for end of July 80kg (12st6)
Dose 0.6 and 6 clicks
Starting BMI 34.3
Current BMI 33

Even though I've "only" lost 2 kilos - I am so so encouraged by this result - given what I had to drink last night I'm slightly hung over but weighing myself put me in a good mood. The thing is I really haven't felt that I'm holding back on food, I haven't been hungry and I've stopped constantly grazing. And I managed to loose 2kg this week even with my dinner party and last night that were both total blow outs by any dieting standard.

Do a full update later

Has anyone noticed feeling depressed and anxious since starting this med? Just wondering if it's something that will go away or if I should stop

Saxendastarter · 05/05/2023 07:00

@Glorfindels How are you getting along? How's the covid?
@Bloodylovecrisps I hope you're planning a nice weekend.
@cherrypied Have you been swimming again ?
@BinnityBoo How are you getting along ?

Saxendastarter · 05/05/2023 07:00

@cherrypied Thats amazing! Well done.

OP posts:
Saxendastarter · 05/05/2023 07:05

@Mystic94 Not more than usual. However if you are feeling more anxious and depressed I'd recommend talking to your HCP or the people you got the Saxenda from. Do you have a good support network ?
Depression and anxiety are known side effects of Saxenda. Take care.

OP posts:
Saxendastarter · 05/05/2023 08:48

Oh no - sick again this morning. Lucky still at home which is marginally better than in a public bin.

@Bloodylovecrisps can I ask what anti-sickness medicine you're taking ?

OP posts:
BinnityBoo · 05/05/2023 11:00

oh no @Saxendastarter the sickness sounds horrible! but glad you're feeling better and a 2kg loss is absolutely fantastic!

So I upped my dose yesterday to 0.9 but it's as if weirdly all of the side effects have suddenly disappeared, I was really hungry yesterday afternoon and the day prior but managed to keep a lid on things (I've had a manic week at work, including new intake of students so think pizza lunches and free snacks everywhere!) but I've managed to resist temptation despite being hungry and keep my calories under 1,200 every day this week. I don't know if the hunger increased because I've done a lot of extra walking this week doing campus tours.

I added an extra click this morning so my dose is 1.0 now and it seems to be having the desired effect again. I've not felt hungry at all, all morning.

I must admit I keep jumping on the scales and so far this week I've maintained at 12 stone 12 / 81kg.. It did go down by 1lb one day but them jumped back up the next. But the week isn't over yet, so I'm trying to resist the urge to keep hopping on the scales (I can get a bit obsessive) and just keep swimming and stick to the plan. I'm eating anywhere between 800 - 1200 calories a day which is way less than prior to sax so surely it's impossible not to lose weight on those calories.

I hope you're all okay and having a good week!

Bloodylovecrisps · 05/05/2023 13:07

Oh no @Saxendastarter I'm taking Cyclizine Hydrochloride 50mg up to 3 times a day when needed for nausea. I just asked at a pharmacy and they suggested it after a few questions to check what would be the most suitable. Was able to buy a box of 100 for around £18. Hope that helps!

Glorfindels · 05/05/2023 16:04

Hello Everyone,

@Saxendastarter Sorry to hear you have had a tough couple of days, 2kg is really good going. I can empathise with some of your work stresses- I work in a SME spin out, and the scale of growth you talk about it is tricky. The operational mindset going from 2 to 90 is a complete culture shift and will always take time to work itself out- It's hard.

@cherrypied Good result, well done.

@BinnityBoo You are inspiring me to get exercising, I know it sorts my head out at the same time.

Hope everyone else is doing well to.

This week weigh-in:

Start weight: 129.27kg
This week: 123.27kg
Weekly loss: 2.27kg
Total loss: 5.9kg

For the first time in ages I woke up this morning absolutely Hank Marvin, but I think I cocked up my dose yesterday and only had 0.6ml. The worst of Covid is over and I'm back to about 85%. I have to think about navigating the weekend as we are going to a family party on Saturday which will be a food/alcohol temptation

Here's to another positive week.

@Saxendastarter I'm so inspired by your French food! Intrigued as to what fromage blanc is- is fromage frais in the UK.

I wish my sugar cravings would vanish. To be honest I'm still eating badly. I've had a really busy week and added PMS bloat.

now on 1.2

Saxendastarter · 06/05/2023 08:47

Hi @cherrypied , good luck with the PMS, be kind to yourself.

Fromage blanc and fromage frais are basically the same, Fromage blanc has more lactoserum left in it so it a bit thinner, more like yogurt, Fromage frais is strained so is thicker
From my early childhood in the UK the comparaison I can think of is
-Petit filo in the little pots are flavored fromage frais,
-the petit filo in tubes (if they still exist ) are flavored fromage blanc

Unfortunately cottage cheese (that I love) is not a thing here though and is really hard to find, and when I do its always in the specialty organic shops and is £££££.

Next time I'm at the supermarket I'll see if I can take a photo of the dairy aisle here

BinnityBoo · 06/05/2023 09:05

@Glorfindels @Saxendastarter glad to have inspired you! Hope you enjoyed your swim ❣️

Honestly I'm feeling a bit down with staying the same this week, I'm starting to worry that this is another things that's not going to work for me 😞 however it is early days and I need to just crack on and stop thinking so much. It's just so much more motivating when you see the scales going down. I did have a big loss last week though so I should really stop being so hard on myself but it's tough ☹️
