I'm 33.

I'm 1m68 (5ft6)

I don't actually know what I weight and I got rid of my scales last year when getting on them just made me cry every time and I was just too depressed to even try and start loosing weight - I have ordered scales and will weight myself tomorrow.

However last time I weighed myself nearly a year ago I was 94kg (14st 11) and I know that I have gained since then.

I started gaining weight the beginning of covid, before 2019 my very highest weight had been 68kg ( 10st10) and my normal weight had been round 62kg for most of my adult life, so I have massively put on weight over these last four years. (Separation, depression, stress at work, and just general giving up).

My body is ruined by stretch-marks and my boobs that used to be great are now just swollen and saggy and stretch marked.

I'm really depressed by my weight and have decided its time to do something about it.

I have an office job and I'm not at all active.

I've tried to start making small changes, walking to the underground instead of getting the bus, getting the stairs up the one flight to my office instead of the lift but everything feels like a struggle and I have such awful thigh chaffing that walking is often excruciatingly painful.

I how I need to make a change because on top of it being so unhealthy being so over weight just makes me so upset. I've stopped going out as much and have just retreated into a shell.

I also have an appointment with a psychologist tomorrow.

I decided last month that enough is enough and I need to do something about it all.

I've started using face cream, and am finally having laser on my very very hairy thighs and - the point of this thread - I'm going to start saxenda tomorrow.

I thought I'd journal here.

Thanks @Oneearringlost and @greyhairnomore!

Another early supper for me today.

Day three

Breakfast:
2 egg omelet with spinach and mushroom
1 milky coffee
1 flavored perrier

Lunch :
Cauliflower and celeriac purée
1 Big glass of sugar free squash
1 flavored perrier
1 back coffee
1 coffee with coconut milk

Supper:
A steak haché
Cauliflower and celeriac purée
1 flavored San Pellegrino
2 Big glasses of sugar free squash

Was woken up this morning at 8am by my cleaning lady and had a real fright waking up to hear someone in the flat .... (I'd asked her months ago to come today on top off her normal day because I had friends arriving planned tonight - but they finally changed their tickets to next week and I'd forgotten I'd asked cleaning lady to come in the morning!). Went for a short walk this morning ( 5000 steps - but thats still massive for me) and to the supermarket - finally got the sugar free squash and some are flavored fizzy water - the weaning of fizzy soft drinks is hard! . Did laundry and some ironing this afternoon.

I have a headache again but I'm not sure if it's the saxenda or the drastic reduction of the amount of sugar and carbs.

@BinnityBoo Have you done your first injection yet ?

How does it actually work and what does it cost? Where do you get it? I know nothing about it.

Not yet! I did pick it up today though so I'm ready to start! Having a Chinese tonight! 😂🙈 So I'm going to do the first injection tomorrow! I've ordered a set of scales too because I've somehow lost mine in the move! So going to weigh/take pics/measurements tomorrow too 😄

There are quite a lot of threads to read through on here but also lots of really informative videos on tiktok. I got mine on boots online and used the 20% off welcome code WELCOME20 and got three pens for £120, I'm not going to rush to up the dose if I don't need to, to try and make the pens last longer. I'd recommend having a good read up on it before you go ahead with it to make sure it's right for you, I'd been reading/researching it for a good few weeks before I decided to take the plunge

Saxendastarter · 22/04/2023 19:20

Hey @Livingwitheyesclosed.

I'm not an expert but here is what I know.

The active ingredient in Saxenda is Liraglutide - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liraglutide.

Liraglutide mimics Incretins which are metabolic hormones.

Incretins are released when you eat and your blood sugar levels change. This then increases the secretion of insulin by certains cells in the hormone producing bit of the pancreas. It also slows down how fast your stomach empties and how fast nutriments get into your blood.

(I'm happy to be corrected on any of this!)

So when you take saxenda you secrete more insulin and feel less hungry and when you do eat you feel fuller for longer - and thus it is easier to loose weight!

I'm not in the UK and it's hard to get where I am so I ordered online through a foreign pharmacy that do a prescription etc and got sent it via the post.

In the UK I think you can go private through most mainstream pharmacies - there are other threads on this and if you're interested I'm sure you'll find the answers you need.

It's quite expensive - at least 300 euros a month here!

That sounds like a good day @Saxendastarter ! Thanks for sharing what you're eating, interesting to see. Also 5k steps is amazing!! Well done!

Saxendastarter · 22/04/2023 19:22

@BinnityBoo

Enjoy your Chinese! Three pens for 120 seems like a deal to me! I paid over 400 for 4 pens - but that was the cheapest way I could find to get it here.

I'm not sure I'm brave enough to take pictures - since Ive gained weight I've basically burst into tears every time I've seen a photo of myself and I generally ban people from taking pictures of me.

I've just started week 2 of this and I lost pounds in my first week. My appetite is in the bin, which is great. I got mine from Boots. £150 for 3 pens.

CocoKenny · 22/04/2023 19:28

Oops... 3 pounds in my first week!

Saxendastarter · 22/04/2023 19:38

@CocoKenny @BinnityBoo Do you need to have an nhs number to order from boots ? I'm trying to work out if I could order from boots and get delivered to a friends in the UK and get them to send it over to me here. I'm in France and the cheapest I can find is 480 euros for 5 pens so getting it from boots would save me over £190 per 5 pens .... which would be more than enough to cover next day DHL...

OP posts:
Saxendastarter · 22/04/2023 19:39

@CocoKenny 3 pounds is great!

OP posts:
CocoKenny · 22/04/2023 19:40

No but I did need to give the name of my GP so they could be contacted to approve it. Surely your friend could find a way to help? Hope you get sorted!

CocoKenny · 22/04/2023 19:42

Thanks @Saxendastarter ... and hope you don't mind me crashing the thread :)

Saxendastarter · 22/04/2023 19:45

@CocoKenny the more the merrier! I'm sure I can find a way through the GP issue!

Has anyone had any hypoglycaemic symptoms?
Bit worried about that.

Yellowcakestand · 22/04/2023 20:57

My sister is on this. She has lost over a stone in 3 weeks.

Saxendastarter · 22/04/2023 21:05

@greyhairnomore I haven't but I'm only on day three ...

OP posts:
BinnityBoo · 22/04/2023 21:06

@Saxendastarter no NHS number but as cocokenny said I had to put the address of my GP. I don't want to suggest any illegal but im sure there may be a way around it, maybe just put a GP local to your sister down 😅 it was approved really quick so I very much doubt they spoke to my GP to approve it..

Amazing loss @CocoKenny!! Well done 👏🏻

Bit worried about that.

I'm a bit concerned about this but only because I'm also on Metformin for insulin resistance.. but I did mention it during the approval process and nothing was mentioned 🤷🏻‍♀️ I'm planning on just keeping a really close eye on my symptoms

Saxendastarter · 22/04/2023 23:01

Ahhh been woken by headache again! time for paracetamol.

OP posts:
Saxendastarter · 23/04/2023 08:24

It's the morning of Day 4 for me. I had a horrible headache that paracetamol, lots of water and a dark nighttime room don't get the better of that kept me awake until three am.

I'm not hungry this morning but I did have another snack of 3 mini madeleines and a square of black chocolate at midnight ...

@BinnityBoo how did first injection go ?

OP posts:
BinnityBoo · 23/04/2023 14:38

@Saxendastarter good thank you! It didn't hurt at all, and I feel fine so far.
Sorry to hear about your headache! How are you feeling now?

Saxendastarter · 23/04/2023 18:50

@BinnityBoo

Thanks ! Good to know you didn't feel anything with the needle. The headache is gone for now ... but last two nights it's hit round 10pm.

I wasn't hungry at all until round 6pm today. No nausea but sort of restless. Lazy day, a lot of Netflix and ironing and getting ready for work tomorrow and the week. Also made packed lunch for work tomorrow but not very inspired - rest of the celeriac and cauliflower puree another steak haché and wilted spinach.

Day 4

Breakfast:
2 coffee with coconut milk
Big glass of sugar free squash

Lunch :
2 Big glasses of sugar free squash
1 flavored San Pellegrino
1 coffee with coconut milk

Supper:
Sichuan beef stew with peanuts and coriander, didn't have the noodles( about 1/3 or what I'd usually eat)
1 coke zero
2 flavored San Pellegrino
